i think my favorite thing about UN hei xiazi is how goofy he is even when he is trying very hard to be cool/sexy. idk if it's the actor, a directing choice, what- but it happens every time. It's different from every other hxz. like he's just a leggy, smelly, silly dude no matter what.

For the fic meme: Pangzi & Hei Xiazi, pirate AU. Gen or romantic, idc. Will love you forever if you give one of them an (unnecessary) eyepatch :D (or if you don't feel like writing these two, then maybe some heihua?)
"Captain?"
"Wang Pangzi, my best First mate, what brings you here this fine evening?" The evening wasn't particularly fine, though the storm that has buffetted their sails all morning had finally passed over them. Wang Pangzi was of course not just the best, but also Captein Hei Xiazi's only first mate, though Pangzi wasn't about to point that out. The captain might get ideas, and appoint a Second First Mate or something equally daft.
Captain Hei Xiazi lowered the spy-glass from his one good eye, and faced Pangzi. Pangzi knew this was just the captain being polite, because with one eye he really only needed... hang on.
The Blind Captain was feared across the seven seas, though the name wasn't quite correct. He still had one good eye, having lost the other in some way. Depending on who told the story he'd lost that eye to a giant be-tentacled sea monster (according to the captain himself). Ship rumours had it he'd lost the eye when he won his famous sea battle, his one ship the Flower of the Sea versus one ship or possibly one whole fleet of the East India Trading company. The ladies in their various ports swore he'd lost the eye in a duel for his true love (though this lover's identity was unknown). Wang Pangzi personally suspected the Captain may have been born with a bad eye, because he never seemed to have had any other name than 'Hei Xiazi'. That's what Pangzi had thought up until some moments ago.
"Captain, wasn't your bad eye your left?" The question escaped him before he could think better of it. In the blood-red light of the post-storm sun Captain Xiazi blinked twice in confusion (with his left, apparently functional??, eye). Then he grinned his most worrying grin: the one that spelled bad news, the one that made ships surrender as soon as they saw the feared Blind Captain. The one that had graced his face that morning, as he'd sailed them into that blasted storm, because the Captain had pronounced the weather 'not hardly that bad, Pang-ye, don't fret so much'.
"Aye, so it is!" His captain answers, like Pangzi has asked if it's sunset. Then Hei Xiazi takes off his hat, rearranges his eye patch from his right eye (also functional??) to his left, puts his hat back on, and turns back to watching the sea. "What did you need me for?"
If his captain wishes to act like nothing happened, then who is Pangzi to argue? He'd like to keep his skin in one piece, thanks. "Err, I came to relieve you Captain- Cook says assumin' no more storms surprise her dinner'll be ready soon."
"Great!" The captain pronounced, and passed his spy glass to Pangzi, and with it the shift. Pangzi quickly snuck a look through the glass, but all seemed perfectly ordinary. "All this sea-staring makes a man hungry, huh?"
Pangzi couldn't help but wonder if that sea-staring might not be less hungry work without the eye-patch, but he's not fool enough to voice that to his captain.
Thank you for the request! I have not yet received any heihua requests so I may take you up on the second part as well 🌸 but I'll get some other requests filled first for now^^
Send me an ask with a pairing and an AU and I'll write you a ficlet!

It is too much. It is all entirely too much: too much noise, too much light, too much movement, and Li Cu is falling. Spin spin spin, the shape on the radar in front of him growing closer. Huge claws, smashing, crashing down onto nearby cars. Blaring alarms, the pinging of the radar. Li Cu trips and he falls, keeps falling and there’s no end to it. The air is leaving his lungs, too little oxygen, can’t breathe, his father screaming from outside the locked closet door.
“Let me in! Kid, you’ve gotta let me in!”
Li Cu shakes his head, shuts his eyes. It’s dark, he can hear the rushing rain, distant as it falls on the debris that crashed all around Li Cu. Small, so small, the kaiju is enormous and it bears down on him, trapping him.
“Yes, the kaiju is big. But we are going to fight it, kid, come on!“
Fight it? The Jaeger fight kaiju, Russet Divergence with her two pilots came from above and cradled Li Cu in her hand. Wu Xie’s hand on Li Cu’s shoulder, introducing him to the other cadets. Fail, fail, fail, Li Cu can’t pilot. Doesn’t have the strength for it, too unfocused, gets lost so easily and he falls. Falls and spirals out of control and Li Cu doesn’t know how to stop-
He slams onto the ground, back on the floor as a weight presses him down. Breath coming fast but slowing now, the heat of a fight with none of the bite. Only a sliver of light, just enough for him to see clearly the pretty face above him: Hua’er-ye.
Marshall Xie?
Yeah, same guy, kid. Keep up.
Li Cu sinks, the floor slips around him like sand. It changes, shifts, shapes Hua’er-ye’s face from a thousand angles. Soft and fuzzy, barely distinguishable at times. But the sound of him, the feel of him is there. The movement, the eye rolls, the exasperated sigh as he (they?) sing: “[insert green pepper song]”
“Yes, now that’s a good one,” Hei Xiazi says from beside (around? Inside?) him. “That’s a good place to stop, hold onto that!”
“Stop? What do you mean stop?” But even as he asks that, Li Cu can already sort of figure out the answer. The haze clears, the shock of such a terrible vocal performance enough to cushion his fall into his own memories. Like biting a lemon to make the panic go away, he thinks; something Wu Xie had taught him when Li Cu was having trouble with the enclosed space of the Shatterdome.
Hei Xiazi probably figures out that Li Cu doesn’t expect an answer, given that, he remembers now, their brain are literally connected. Which explains the gushy feelings he got about the Marshal just now (which, ew. Respectable though, having gushy feelings about Xie Yuchen takes some guts).
“Hey, focus!” Hei Xiazi says, snapping gloved fingers in front of Li Cu’s eyes. “Are we good to go now?”
Go where? Oh. Oh no. This is bad.
See, the problem with Li Cu falling into his memories is that it always makes him dizzy like you wouldn’t believe. It usually takes a few moments for him to get his bearings, which normally is fine. He’ll make a fool of himself in the simulation room but it’s nothing a healthy dose screaming off of the edge of the Shatterdome won’t fix.
Usually there isn’t a massive heat signature on his radar, pinging closer and closer with each passing moment. Usually it’s all a game. Usually he isn’t standing in a Jaeger, several miles off the coast, with an incoming category 4 kaiju just out of sight.
“Oh fuck.”
“Glad to have you back, kid.”

Emotional about heihua and how xiao hua's heartbreak boils down to "i will never forgive you if you die" he would forgive xiazi anything, but not that. never that. and he is so deeply frustrated that threatening that isn't enough to keep xiazi here because it's all he has.

the way sha hai's hei xiazi moves and speaks is just so... wonderfully and carelessly deliberate. like how he carries himself is worn, comfortable instinct and yet he has very keenly calculated awareness in his capacity and every action he takes. and all of that has a cloak of arrogance thrown overtop, partly for show and partly because it's earned, he doesn't claim anything without being able to back it up and he very much can. i've appreciated all this most so far in scenes like when he holds the gun to li cu's head; it's just this side of unsettling because you suddenly understand hei xiazi's age in that moment. how many times has he done this without blinking? how much does a motion like this even matter to him? he threatens li cu with a gun and maybe it seems like he could pull the trigger and he wouldn't think about it a day or so later. but he has a very specific lesson in mind to teach him, and he does, speaking like he's being lazy but really he's chosen every word, and then lets the gun go for emphasis. and then it's back to the sense of amused overconfidence, breaking the tension, and they move on. all of these little things about hei xiazi and his sharpness and the way they ebb and flow build him into such a subtly magnetic character onscreen, truly i adore ji chen as hei xiazi so much
