I do have a question for you 😊

How do you think Tristan would feel at the prospect of meeting Gale’s mum for the first time? Intimidated? Anxious? Excited?

All of the above! He'd absolutely be intimidated and anxious, because he'd really really want to leave a good impression. Morena is probably the most important human in Gale's life beside himself, so he'd hate to get on her bad side, and since he doesn't know much about her yet, he can't quite estimate what she'll be like. Is she more laid back, or is she conservative? Is she a person who immediately welcomes new people with open arms, or does she need time to warm up to someone? He'd be all over the place, asking Gale - and probably Tara too - dozens of questions on how he should dress, how he should behave, whether or not he should maybe bring a gift, and so on and so forth.

But he'd also be excited, and probably ultimately optimistic about the occasion, because that's how he is. He always tries to see things from the positive side, and in the end this will not be a life or death encounter with a devil or a murder spawn or a Netherbrain. He's going to meet the mother of the love of his life, he already goes into it with full conviction that he's going to adore her. Because how could anything else even be possible? This is the woman who raised - in his eyes - the most wonderful person in the world, there's no way he wouldn't love her. Of course he'd still try to make as good an impression as possible, but after the initial nervousness, he'd be optimistic he'll just have to be himself and she'll accept him, because in the end they both have the same wish: to see Gale happy 💜

This is a quick appreciation post for Gale’s epilogue outfit.

Yes, this one right here:

The decorative embroidery is very nice, but can we talk for a second about that plunging v-neck?? The way it shows off his chest hair in a tasteful-yet-sexy way??

I checked every other companion’s epilogue outfit, and none of them went this hard.

(excluding Minthara, if you recruited her, but that doesn’t really count because she seems to be allergic to shirts/chest coverings in general)

‘Oh,’ you might say, ‘but that’s just because Gale needed to show whether the orb mark still remains OR if it was removed by Mystra.’ But to that I say NAY, because he could have done this:

I hereby invite you to think about how, one evening, you're watching Gale gesture his way through his day. It's a comforting ritual, but tonight, after you've endured a dismissive wave for the lazier apprentices whining about their marks, an aggravated finger shake for a catastrophically wrong Evocation professor, a framing of the entire universe, a picturing of possibilities when he talks about his research... you decide you've had enough.

Not of listening to him talk (the only time you prefer him silent is when he's putting his mouth to other, differently delightful uses, but even then). You've had enough of having those lovely, eloquent hands everywhere--in the air, on the desk, scrolls, books, his glass of wine--and not on you, not in your own hands, not against your skin.

Gale stops mid-narrative when you slide into his space, eyes widening as you take his wandering right hand in both of yours. Even now it's so easy to fluster him and knock him off that confident stride with the slightest touch. Granted, the touch you're offering him is more than slight: kisses across the bumps of his knuckles and down the length of his index finger. When you slide the tip into your mouth, the sound he makes is incoherent and poetic.

You kiss his palm, tasting salt and ink, and then his mouth, where you taste the wine and him. You continue lacing your fingers through his, finding the pressure points that make him sigh, and the soft skin along the inside of his wrist that makes him shiver. However briefly you have all that energy contained, held like galaxies cupped in your hands, and as he murmurs softly against your mouth, settling into the kiss, you've never felt so powerful.

Alright, I'm gonna answer these in reverse order!

My personal headcanon - and of course everyone has the right to disagree - is that Gale is an autumn child, because you won't convince me that this boy wasn't born during a storm, maybe even a thunderstorm. Eleint/The Fading (September) vibes with me the most, followed by Marpenoth/Leaffall (October). I prefer the former though, because at least where I live, that month tends to have the nicest balance of true autumn weather, and some of those last remaining late summer days, and I think that mixture fits Gale really well.

Now for the other part:

Tristan wants to make it a day Gale won't forget. He'd spend the months leading up to Gale's birthday gathering ideas for activities, as well as searching for the perfect present. More likely than not, there'd have been instances in which Gale would've mentioned something he'd love to have - most likely some obscure book, let's be real. Even if he'd only ever mentioned it once or twice, Tristan would remember, and he'd go through the hells and back to get him a copy - first edition of course, if humanly possible. Luckily, money isn't an issue.

This, however, wouldn't be the entire present, oh no! Anyone can go and buy something. Tristan likes it more personal, and he actually has a talent that comes into play just too perfectly for this occasion!

Tristan is a talented and passionate woodworker, and it's one of my absolute favourite ideas that he'll spend days - maybe even weeks - crafting him an exceptionally detailed and intricate puzzle box, decked out with countless little riddles and mechanics which he'll have to solve before getting to the present inside.

I also saw a tag of yours saying you don't think Gale would say fu*k in bed, which makes me curious. I would love it if you could share some lines that you think Gale would be saying between the sheets? In any occasion you see fit. I've been pondering and searching for references on the internet, but I can't quite make up my mind 🤔🤔. I mean, he is the one with courtesy and fancy words, and at the same time, the one who doesn't sugarcoat things like cum rag and bugbear's armpit. He also says he is not coy... a well-educated gentleman but also not unfamiliar with hanging out in a tavern?? I am distracted by seeing too many directions... I would truly appreciate it if you could shine some light on this lost soul having difficulties coming up with lines for her unspeakable little fantasies? <3 <3 ///

Aw thank you so much for the compliment! And sorry for the late response I've been knitting lol. I unfortunately am terrible at writing dialogue, which is why I don't write fics.🤣

Gale loves a good swear, but I don't think fuck is in his fucking vocabulary. Fuck is reserved for stubbed toes and the such where all decorum flies out the window. If the man won't say fuck while having his arm om nom nom-ed, he never really will. He usually employs religious(By Mystra's veil!) or Waterdhvian(By Algerion's lost nose!) Swears outside of the bedroom.

With all this in mind to me Gale is the type to say the nastiest stuff disguised as poetry or polite words. Or think horny Hozier-core. Remember this is a man who says he has a "practised tongue" or "I'll shut my mouth until you have use for it, of course". Would he says more conventional things if you ask for them? Absolutely. The man is a pleaser.

So after much thinking and struggling, I've managed to dredge up a few. Is it cringe? probably.

"Yours is a taste I'd gladly drown in. A taste I'd use my tongue to embrace again and again"

"Feel here, my love where we are united. *moves hand there* I can feel it, can you?"

What’s your favorite Gale fic you’ve read so far?

OK...I have read MANY many many fics, and they were all fantastic. But, the one that has been living in my head rent free is this one here by @weaveandwood. It's three chapters of pure angst and sad romance. Literally, I was SO NEEDY for the last chapter, that I willingly made myself ten minutes late to work just so I could read it as soon as it was released.

...I know you only wanted ONE, but here's another (unfinished) fic by @hotnerdywizard that I am SERIOUSLY foaming at the mouth over. I can't wait for the continuation. Another bingeable fic b/c it's just so effing good!

Again, there are SO many...but this would probably turn into a master list of everything I have ever read on AO3 lmaooo.

Snippet Sunday

Thank you @alpydk for tagging me!

Right now I'm trying to add my favourite Shakespeare's sonnet (what's the text about a bard without the Bard?). But I want to share with you a little fluff from the 4th chapter of "Twin Compasses". Gale and Laerie (Tav) sit by the fire at night.

‘I wish I had a bed in a tavern, a hot bath and a good story to lull me into meditating. But here I cannot even have a nice pillow,’ she stretched her neck and winced from pain. ‘I have to put my head on my backpack.’ ‘I always thought elves meditate like monks, in the sitting position. But I think I can help you a bit.’ Gale looked away and started waving his hands in a somatic component for a spell. ‘Pulvinar,’ he pronounced cleanly and evenly. In an instant a purple pillow with a pink hem appeared on his lap. When he looked up at Laerie, he saw admiration and wonder in her eyes. His heart swelled. ‘A little plush present for our fearless leader,’ he said with a flourish and held it out to the elf. ‘Thank you so much,’ she smiled, taking the present. Laerie hugged the pillow and put her chin on top of it. ‘You should teach me this spell.’
