Sissy Spaces’s amazing portrayal of Carrie will never not be iconic. It’s also a role that exhibits why I have never believed horror to be anti female. There really is no Scream without her. But Neve started on television with a little show called #partyoffive. Then she played Bonnie in #thecraft, another iconic horror film of the 1990s. Then, she switched it all up in the movie #wildthings. She came back 4 more times to reprise Sidney. But Neve is versatile she's played in romantic comedies like #threetotango and action movies like #skyscraper. Thank you Bonnie for organizing this amazing event. #Repost @tangoineden ••••••• My final post for #wihm and final choice for upcoming horror actress is none other than Samara Weaving. To say that she's on the rise is an understatement. Not only has she been featured in numerous horror films but she also had a memorable role in the critically acclaimed Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Horror fans will know her from Ash vs. Evil Dead, Ready or Not, or McG's The Babysitter series. However, my personal favorite is the underrated Mayhem from 2017. Co-starring with the fantastic Steven Yeun, Samara's comedic skills are at their finest. Her character, Melanie Cross, is clever, witty, and knows how to take out a horde of corporate zombies. This role really allowed her to shine and show off the best of her abilities. Samara Weaving is already beloved for her performances and I have no doubt that she'll continue to steal the hearts of fans for many years to come. Being a mom is hard and like Lucille Bluth said, “Kids don’t come with a handbook.” 💀Ruth in Prevenge kills because her unborn baby tells her to: maybe not the best way to deal with grief, but at least she’s already listening to her child.👶🏻Nola may be creating rage babies in The Brood, but everyone has different coping mechanisms when it comes to overcoming the trauma of abuse. At least she gives her children direction and goals.👻Mama is certainly a tad bit overbearing, but she just takes her job super, super seriously. She’s just very involved in her kids lives.👻Grace is one of the original helicopter moms. In The Others, she does choose an unfortunate way to deal with her grief, but this was back when women were considered insane just because they had PMS. She did the best she could.👶🏻Peyton is most definitely The Hand That Rocks the Cradle and she has, in her mind, really valid reasons for being an ultra involved caregiver. And hey, what mom couldn’t use some extra help? ✂️Beverly Sutphin is Mom Goals in Serial Mom: she separates the recycling, makes sure everyone buckles their seat belts and she will not stand for rudeness. Beverly is the kind of suburban mom I strive to be.🔪Mrs. Voorhees is just a mom who is advocating for her child with special needs and I’m here for it. 😱Mrs. Loomis definitely didn’t get the handbook on how NOT to react to infidelity, thus creating a monster, but she still loves her son. A lot.🔥Marge and all of the other parents in NOES really thought they were doing their kids a favor when they exterminated Freddy. Their hearts were in the right place. ✂️🔪But the 1 Problematic Mommie to rule them all is La Femme in Inside. Grief & vengeance can make you do some seriously fucked up shit. I really enjoyed Inside before I became a mom, but I absolutely adore it on a whole other level after having my boys & you know what? Ya know, normal teenager stuff. ( they are awesome) The girls are out one night when Ginger gets her first period, the blood attracting a strange wild beast who attacks her viciously. The wounds heal suspiciously quickly, but Ginger just brushes it off and goes about her business. Soon she's sprouting hair in strange places, eating the family pets, and growing a tail. With the help of the local weed dealer, they soon figure out what's going on and try to help Ginger before she goes full wolf. Keke Palmer is known for starring in Nickelodeon's True Jackson VP and being a well regarded child actress with many roles in various films. Since becoming an adult, she's successfully moved on to acting in more diverse projects, including several in the horror genre. She was in the super fun 2014 creature feature, Animal, had a prominent role in horror comedy series, Scream Queens, and will star in the latest Jordan Peele film, Nope. Keke has already had so much success in her young life and I think she's only going up from here. She truly stands out in the recent trailer for Nope and I believe her impact on horror will be strong. #Repost @lcfremont ••••••• Valentine’s Day seems like a good day to talk about another Mommie Dearest for #horrorsisterswihm2022 💜Amelia Vanek is so consumed with her grief that it manifests into an entity that terrorizes her and her son, Samuel. Samuel gets A LOT of grief from viewers for being annoying, but you know what? This poor kid only has one parent and she literally puts more energy and love into her dead husband than she does her son who is very much alive and only wants to be loved by her. Samuel is simply reacting to the environment that he lives in: a home that is all shades of gray with a somber woman who puts in the least amount of effort raising him. Amelia is emotionally selfish and Samuel suffers for it. An excellent look at grief, the toll it takes and overcoming it, The Babadook is a film that does a ton of emotional heavy lifting under the guise of a horror film and Essie Davis is amazing as Amelia. There's a car accident leaving Blanche confined to a wheelchair, ending her movie career and leaving Jane her caretaker. Years pass, with Jane piling on the pancake makeup and planning her "comeback " whole tormenting her sister, at one point serving Blanche her pet parakeet for lunch. All this happens in the first 37 minutes so buckle up, it's gonna be a real bumpy ride. Bette and Joan reportedly hated each other in real life, and boy does it show here! #Repost @tangoineden ... It's time for another #wihm post and I'm happy to highlight another upcoming horror actress to keep your eye on. Andi Matichak is a recognizable face by now. Her roles in 2018's Halloween and last year's Halloween Kills have cemented her place in horror history. Co-starring along side the phenomenal Jamie Lee Curtis is no easy feat but Andi proved that, not only was she up for the challenge, but she was able to steal some of the spotlight. Besides her two most famous roles, she's also starred in 2021 family horror drama, Son and 2019's sci-fi horror film, Assimilate. She's received praise for her performances in both films, particularly for being able to convincingly play a mother in Son after playing a teenager in Assimilate and the Halloween films. Despite being 27, she has the ability to fool audiences into believing that she's much younger. Although this can be contributed to her youthful looks, to dismiss her acting ability would be a mistake. Perhaps Andi will reveal her fountain of youth secrets someday. Until then, I'll enjoy seeing her in future roles, whether she plays her age or not. I'm not a big fan of the recent Halloween movies but, due to the incredible talent this actress has, I'm still looking forward to Halloween Ends. I have the honor of hilghting those low, down and nasty women that some unfortunate souls call, “Mom”.💜💀🌷It didn’t seem right to kick this off without paying homage to one of baddest of the bad: Joan Crawford. For me, her role as Lucy Harbin in Strait-Jacket is the most, shall we say, true to life portrayal of her particular type of mothering. Lucy has come to make amends with her estranged daughter, Carol, after spending 20 years in an asylum for killing her husband and his lover with an axe. Now, dismembered bodies are piling up once again: is it Lucy?? You’ll have to watch this amazing slice of classic/cult cinema to find out.🪓In her real life, Joan Crawford was never going to win a parenting award, as detailed by her adoptive daughter, Christina. Christina Crawford’s autobiography was turned into one of the, hands down, very best film examples of campy, cult goodness: Mommie Dearest. And guess what? There is an axe involved.🪓🌹Joan Crawford excelled at portraying unlikable mothers in her legendary acting career and, unfortunately for Christina, she excelled at in real life as well. For week 1, how cannot I not begin with the vampire slayer herself #sarahmichellegellar. Her fierce and realistic portrayal of the iconic teenager #buffysummers defined the mid to late nineties. Then, in 1997, she starred in two horror movies that I still watch today, #iknowwhatyoudidlastsummer and #scream2. Both characters met tragic ends far too soon, and the fact that those women are considered fan favorites says quite a bit about Sarah's star power. She kept her horror roots in the 2000s with the films #thegrudge, #thereturn and #possession. She even played the iconic #daphneblake in the #scoobydoo movies.
