#Repost @tangoineden with @let.repost • • • • • • Time to join my horror sisters in celebration of #wihm2023 My category is female singers in horror. This is a great category so let's get into it! Grace Jones is a model, singer, actress, and entertainer extraordinare. She has been a prominent figure for decades and she's known for her dramatic and androgynous persona. One of her most popular film roles is in the fun horror comedy, Vamp. She plays the enigmatic and captivating Katrina, a sexy exotic dancer with a dark secret. Her performance has become an iconic part of horror history. She's also had a successful and eclectic music career. Grace has gotten inspiration from various sources and this is evident in her songs. From hits like Slave to the Rhythm and Pull Up to the Bumper to the bold and provocative Sex Drive to the introspective and lovely La Vie en rose, there's something for everyone in her discography. Recommend albums: Nightclubbing and Slave to the Rhythm Deeper cuts: Crush (from the album Inside Story) This Is (from the album Hurricane) As much as I love film, I love music just as much and it's truly wonderful to write about both passions this month. I hope you'll join me next week for another amazing singer and horror actress. #womeninhorror #gracejones https://www.instagram.com/p/CogK2m-vcwt/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Repost @lcfremont with @let.repost • • • • • • The effervescent Bonnie has brought the coven together once again for #wihm2023💜💀 I shall be talking about Mean Girls. There are so many choices, but I really felt like Juno from The Descent deserved a spotlight. What originally looks like an annual girls trip of hiking and cave exploring turns into a fight for survival and Juno is the only one to blame: she chose the cave, knowing how dangerous it is, she leaves a fellow friend for dead and we also learn that she was *Spoiler Alert* having an affair with one of her friend’s husband. Sarah is not only stuck in an underground cave system with deadly creatures, but she’s still mourning the death of her child and husband when her “friend” Juno takes her on this trip, reveals that she was sleeping with her husband and then has the nerve to say that she misses the philanderer too! Juno is a straight up Mean Girl. And a badass and I kind of love her.💜💀🔪#horrorsisters #horrorsisterswihm2023 https://www.instagram.com/p/CoaUh7svGia/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Repost @fsanders2 with @let.repost • • • • • • Week 3 of #horrorsistersfavoritemoviesof2022 and I'm highlighting #prey. What's it about? A Comanche warrior protects her tribe from an alien predator that hunts humans for sport. A battle of wills begins as she tries to outwit not only this strange new creature but dangerous colonizers and the unforgiving wilderness. Amber Midthunder gives a standout performance as Naru the only person that rings the alarm and tries to convince her fellow male tribe members something is not right. What a great entry in the #predator franchise because let's keep it real, the last film wasn't it. #Repost @tangoineden with @let.repost • • • • • • After being delayed, I'm posting again for #horrorsistersfavoritemoviesof2022 I'm ready for another showdown between two more horror movies of 2022 and this one is even more gruesome than the last. For the third spot on my list, I have a pair of horror comedies to make you laugh while gasping in terror. If you think I've brought a couple of lightweights to a heavyweight match, let me tell you why these two can duke it out with the best of them. Fresh is a clever take on the modern dating scene and an instant feminist horror classic. Fresh really got people talking due to its superb acting, sly humor, and *ahem* meaty subject matter. Sebastian Stan and Daisy Edgar-Jones infuse the screen with chemistry and romantic energy. However, this is no ordinary rom-com and their budding romance takes a bloody detour. Also, I was delighted to see this film make use of soft rock hits by none other than Peter Cetera and Richard Marx. And if you're saying who right now, shame on you. Bitch Ass not only has one of the most attention grabbing titles of the year but it's also just as much fun as the title implies. Tony Todd, serving as a Cryptkeeper-esque figure, tells us that Bitch Ass is "the first Black serial killer to don a mask." And so begins this VHS inspired throwback to movies like Tales from the Hood and The People Under the Stairs. Cecil, given the unfortunate nickname of Bitch Ass in his youth, lives in his grandma's house, which has been targeted by a gang. But they picked the wrong person to rob because Cecil has a few tricks up his sleeves and his victims are forced to play along or lose their lives. There might not be much substance but, director Bill Posley gives us a nostalgic love letter to Black voices in 90s horror. Bitch Ass is certainly one of the most entertaining horror films of the year but there can only be one winner. With its ability to blend humor and horror, I declare Fresh the winner of this battle. And given how much skill Bitch Ass has, this is quite the victory for Fresh! Now, I'll leave you with a summary of my true feelings. Don't leave me here with my restless heart because I remember all https://www.instagram.com/p/CmZoTiCvx5b/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Repost @lcfremont with @let.repost • • • • • • Coming at you with another #horrorsistersfavoritemoviesof2022 💜💀 I’m an original #tvbaby and tv is where it’s at for me, so I want to talk about Teddy Perkins: season 2, episode 6 of Atlanta. (Atlanta recently finished it’s four season run. I’m a couple seasons behind because, kids.) Written by Donald Glover, this episode premiered without commercials because that would definitely ruin the slow dread that expertly builds. Starring LaKeith Stanfiled, this is a stand alone episode that requires no knowledge of the show or it’s characters. Glover is a sly pro at writing material that makes you look at a subject in a different way and really think about it from all directions. I never stopped thinking about Teddy Perkins and after subsequent viewings, it gets smarter and more complex. Abusive fathers are the main focus, but it’s so much more than that. The physical appearance of Teddy, the museum he wants to build, the use of the term ‘owl casket’, proclaiming rap “never quite grew out of it’s adolescence,” Teddy’s house facade being reminiscent of a plantation, the hat Darius makes at the beginning of the episode…every single thing is important and not a detail is overlooked. So, not a movie, but it’s a horror story that stayed with me and it just gets better with repeat viewings. https://www.instagram.com/p/CmZoLjhvZAM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Repost @chibagrrl with @let.repost • • • • • • Week 2 of #horrorsistersfavoritemoviesof2022 and what can I say about Mad God? Stop-motion animation master Phil Tippett's magnum opus, 30 years in the making? Seriously, how do I begin to describe this indescribable masterpiece? This paragraph I stole from Google will give you the general idea- "A plot synopsis is either impossible or pointless here, with the film moving through different vignettes exploring a nightmare world of war and death. The world in the film is a Hell, a disturbing, brutal, bloody, dirty, filthy, obscene, dark, grimy cesspool populated by a group of insane monsters that defy description " And that just scratches the surface! I've included a short clip, one of the tamest in the film. You could watch this movie 100 times and still not see it all. Absolutely amazing. #Repost @tangoineden with @let.repost • • • • • • It's that time again for #horrorsistersfavoritemoviesof2022 I'll be posting on Tuesdays this month and I'm trying a new concept. First, let me preface this by saying that 2022 was a stellar year for horror. It truly made narrowing down my selections very difficult. So I've decided to host a no holds barred fight between two top contenders, with the winner earning its rightful place on my list. Let's introduce this week's contenders who are battling it out for the 4th spot for my 2022 horror picks. In the left corner, we have The Black Phone, Scott Derrickson's adaptation of a Joe Hill short story. In the right corner, we have the sleeper horror hit of the year, Barbarian. Fighters, are you ready? Anything goes in a death match so let's get it on! The Black Phone benefits generously from its source material. Given that coming of age horror stories are trendy right now, it was the perfect time to adapt Hill's story for the big screen. What I particularly liked about it was its willingness to rely on character and plot development instead of showing gruesome child murders. Gratuitous blood and gore would've ruined the psychological aspects of this film. Barbarian, on the other hand, benefits from its shocking and violent scenarios. Beloved by critics (enough to earn Oscar buzz), this is the film that everyone was talking about but no one would say WHAT it was about. And I won't either. Like everyone else, my advice is to go in blind. That exact marketing strategy helped make this film thrive. Not since the days of VHS tape trading has a horror film relied on viewers to keep their mouths shut and just deliver the ultimate statement: You have to watch this! Overall, both of these films are worthy contenders and deserving of being on anyone's year end list. But we know there's only room for one winner here. In terms of scares, skills, clever ideas, and subtle commentary, I declare Barbarian the official winner of the first match of the top horror movies of 2022! The Black Phone puts up a good fight but ultimately loses due to personal preference and a general lack of scary moments. #Repost @lcfremont with @let.repost • • • • • • It’s time for #horrorsistersfavoritemoviesof2022 and I’m kicking off with a 52 minute love letter to classic horror films. Werewolf By Night brings together a group of monster hunters at Bloodstone Temple where they will fight against one another, and a dangerous monster, for control over the Blood Gem: an alien relic that wields great power. Starring Gael García Bernal, he is a lycanthrope superhero who uses his powers for good. With his face paint that feels like a nod to his turn as Hector in Coco and his always amazing talent of being both sensitive and ruthless at the same time, Bernal brings Jack Russell to life in such a delightful way. Filmed in black and white, it’s the werewolf transformation scene that really endeared me to this short film. I can’t wait to share this with my boys every Halloween. 💜💀🐺🌚 https://www.instagram.com/p/Clz_uIwrqVa/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Repost @afooltocry with @let.repost • • • • • • 2022 was a great year for horror. We had the return of classic franchises (Scream), and new small budget instant classics (X and Pearl). We had addictive horror TV (Chucky and Wednesday), and surprise box office smashes (Smile). However, nothing made me more excited than the return of my favorite director, the horror legend #SamRaimi. #DoctorStrangeintheMultiverseofMadness was definitely one of my favorite films of the year. Some may say it is not a horror movie, but they’re boring and wrong. It has witches, dark magic, gruesome deaths, reanimated corpses, proposed child sacrifice, intense chases, a book of dark magic, and Bruce Campbell. Most of all, every scene is infused with that wild Raimi chaos energy I love so much. That’s why it is definitely one of my #horrorsistersfavoritemovies2022. What mouth? #scarletwitch #elizabetholsen https://www.instagram.com/p/ClzqaBwJ3oM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

To be honest, I wasn't thrilled to hear a new scream movie was in the works especially without the beloved #wescraven. But boy was I pleasantly surprised. The film not only did justice to the legacy chapters but introduced new characters that can carry the franchise forward. And I'm looking forward to #scream6 next year. #Repost @chibagrrl with @let.repost • • • • • • So happy to be joining my #horrorsisters in our annual year- end celebration of our fave films of the year ❤️ Set in 1979 rural Texas, Ti West's X is definitely on my list. When a young group of aspiring filmmakers rent a farmhouse from an elderly couple to shoot their masterpiece, they decline to tell Harold and Pearl, their hosts, that it's a porno. A classy one!! When Pearl peeping toms them during a shoot, it gets the old juices flowing , and Pearl makes a move on her hubby only to be rejected ( he's afraid he'll have a heart attack) Now the couple are horny and angry, which is no fun. Let the killing begin! ( there's a gator involved, which always makes me smile) This is really a movie about the horrors of aging, and as somebody who's pushing 60 I can totally relate to this couple 😅 sucks when you can't get any but the damn kids are having a fuckfest all around you. 😅😅😅 Mia Goth plays double duty as ingenue Maxine and horny old Pearl and she's great.. I haven't seen the sequel Pearl yet but I've heard good things. Now get off my lawn ya damn kids. #horrorsisstersfavoritemovies2022 #scaringandsharing #tiwestx https://www.instagram.com/p/ClpjC_srJt2/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Repost @tangoineden with @let.repost • • • • • • My sincerest apologies for being so late. Due to internet issues and a busy schedule this week, I had no time to post on Tuesday. Finally, I'm bringing you my last selection for #horrorsistersscaresandshares2022 Again, I'm sharing my love of occult horror and I have four films that deal with the devil himself. Whether you know him as Lucifer or another name, whether you speak English or a different language, whether you're Christian or not, every culture and religion has a name for the definitive figure of evil. Any film about the devil, regardless of the country it's from or the language the actors speak, is relatable to most people. Even cultures that aren't deeply religious have a concept of good and evil and Satan is the core representation of wickedness. Here's four examples on film that deal with the concept of the devil and his influence on people. Häxan (Witchcraft Through the Ages) is a silent Swedish film from 1922. Shot documentary style, it studies the history of witchcraft and devil worship throughout the centuries. Notorious for its graphic images, it remains influential to this day. May the Devil Take You is a 2018 Indonesian horror directed by Timo Tjahjanto. It's about a broken family who comes together to discover their father's dark secrets. Influenced by Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead, this entertaining Netflix exclusive has plenty of demonic thrills for horror fans. The Devil Rides Out is a 1968 British horror film based on a 1934 novel of the same name. Starring Christopher Lee and considered one of the best Hammer productions, it is a classic in occult horror and serves as the blueprint for the ultimate good vs. evil showdown.. Def By Temptation is a 1990 American horror film set in NYC and directed by James Bond III. It takes a look at the relationship between two friends, one devoutly religious and the other who's abandoned his Christian upbringing. Meeting a woman known as the Temptress tests not only their loyalty, but also threatens their lives. This underrated gem deserves more attention from the horror community. Thank you all for joining me and sharing in the love of occult horror. https://www.instagram.com/p/CkY3kkvP4w9/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Repost @chibagrrl with @let.repost • • • • • • For my last #Horrorsistersscaresandshares2022 #tonytoddappreciation post I wanted to concentrate on his tv work, especially his many guest appearances. So much great work to choose from, I went with Season 2 episode 4 of the X- Files, titled Sleepless . Tony plays Augustus "Preacher" Cole, a Vietnam Vet who due to a military experiment , hasn't slept in 24 years. If I don't sleep a night or two I wanna burn shit down, so I feel for the guy. Augustus is out for revenge, and he kills by getting into people's minds and making them believe they're burning to death, shot to death, etc. A neat trick. This is a good episode all-around but TT takes it over the top. X- Files is streaming on Hulu Thanks to @bonbonfaboo and the rest of my #horrorsisters for keeping it spooky all year round 🧡💀🦇🎃👻 #horrorsistershalloween2022 #tonytodd https://www.instagram.com/p/CkPU01-J_iA/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Repost @chibagrrl with @let.repost • • • • • • For my 3rd entry in #Horrorsistersscaresandshares2022 #tonytoddappreciation post I checked out a TT film I hadn't seen before. 2006's Shadow: Dead Riot is a hoot! Tony plays Shadow, a resurrected serial killer who's wreaking havoc at a women's prison wuth his zombie army. Tony tears up the screen whenever he's on it, and when he's not you'll be entertained by things like a zombie baby and a gratuitous prison shower scene featuring Misty Mundae ( Erin Brown)!! Tony Todd, lotsa gore, Misty in the shower, what more do you need? Streaming on Tubi, recommended for Tony fans and anybody looking for a fun gory time 😄 #horrorsistershalloween2022 #tonytodd #shadowdeadriot https://www.instagram.com/p/CkJY7isvz-j/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
