I’m new to this whole Barty x Lily lifestyle.

Would you say they started academic rivals or rather respected each others intelligence immediately?

firstly my beloved @hoodedcrxw wrote a beautiful drabble where lily discovers barty matched her OWL results <- read!!!! anyway i see them as "academic rivals" but in a really lowkey and one-sided way where barty does not give even the SLIGHTEST shit & lily doesn't care/think about him but maybe occasionally feels some minor righteous indignation that slytherin's top student sleeps through all his classes.

its both and neither. it would be fascinating for lily to grapple w/ someone who values her brains but thinks that being Best Of The Year is a pointless waste of time (instead of hyping her up for it). barty would have a "lily, you're too smart to care about grades so much :/" attitude that drives her insane. but i think its good to have someone respect her completely outside of external validation— he respects how cleverly she can insult him in their banter more than any NEWTs. and that's a challenge for her, but i think its a healthy one???

currently working on: finish my wip without adding anything else to it while deciding between writing a post apocalyptic au or not. @hoodedcrxw honestly maybe not? Like give it a go if you want, but it is PAINFULLY het. Both the girls have very generic boy love interests, and there's not really much tension between the girls.

Honestly what people are tapping into is the show's wasted - and I DO mean wasted - potential. It's incredibly frustrating to watch because the show COULD have been good if anyone who made it had any balls at all. It's a study in mass appeal, from a franchise designed for strangeness.
