Lemanjá
Background and Concept
Inspired by the Afro-Brazilian religious tradition celebration of Candomble (”dace in honor of the gods”) in this case to the Orixá goddess Lemanjá.This piece sightsees the merging aspects of the African Culture and the Yoruba beliefs brought by the slaves in the Transatlantic slave trade into Brazil.

Video Processing
In order to give the projections a human element, we decided to capture individual dancers dancing.The video file was then processed through a couple of filter composition nodes in order to get the desired effect. Passing the video through the feedback node resulted in a wavy effect that resembles traversing through water.

Interface
Each .tox is referenced into individual containers within the UI container, where a panel execute CHOP is detecting a mouse click to send the visuals to the projector. The code looks something like this:

There is a useful tool in the Palette Browser called Lists. It reads files from a folder and makes them selectable. Pipe it into a select DAT and you get a file path that you can reference into anything. Midway through designing the show, every time a file was clicked on, it assigned that file onto a new column, breaking the path reference. In order to keep track of the path, the following expressions was added to the moviefilein TOP that it was referencing to:

This made sure that the movie TOP was referencing the latest column that the list was erroneously creating.
The Performance

Reflection and Prospects
The inclusion of the dancer’s footage helped in giving this performance a distinct identity from the rest of the computer-generated visuals. That being said, since the videos were recorded vertically on a phone, quality was not the most optimal. We had to do manipulate the videos in such a way in order to mask the fact that the they were captured in portrait mode.
Also, using Lists may have not been the most efficient method of importing the videos into TouchDesigner. Every time that a video is clicked, the program would noticeably stutter. I think that by using the Replicator and a panel execute, we could have achieved the same effect.
