hocus pocus 2 was perfect and deserved better promotion and a theatrical release. it was nostalgic and often was self aware of that fact, but also brought so much depth to the story without taking anything away from the original!

i really think what makes hocus pocus so wonderful is how much the sanderson sisters love each other. they chase youth so much because they were exiled as children and we see that now. winnie is so angry at salem because salem tried to take her sisters which is why i love that winnie would give up her powers to be reunited with her sisters. i think you can always feel that they don't really want to take over the world, they're just having fun and them THEMSELVES being very childlike in the process and the ending really leaned into that!

i loved winnie telling becca and her friends how lucky they are to have each other, and book crying! in the past witches were driven apart and punished and it made them angry and cold for centuries, but now they're not and can love the same salem that once shunned them and there is something very healing in that idea to me. like book obviously being sad to lose winnie - who was like a mother to him - but also getting to be there for new witches with new rules!!!

and i'm sorry to sound like an old fart but i also just really enjoyed how the teenagers in this movie looked and felt like teenagers and got to act like kids because that's what they are!

Doug jones, thank you so much for coming back as billy butcherson in HP 2. I love this movie so much. Hocus pocus was the first movie i’ve watched starring you in. You are truly my favorite zombie of all time ( ps. sorry for gilbert ripping off your head lol). 

absolutely loved hocus pocus 2 but i gotta say i thought it was kinda hilarious that the three teenage girls adopted book like it was a dog and not a living tome of evil magic bound in flayed human skin

I can see why Winnie was obsessed with staying young: she was iconic as a teenager.

I’m surprised there weren’t any sort of cameos for Max, Allison, Dani, or Thackery (unless you want to count Cobweb as Binx’s cameo) in Hocus Pocus 2, I guess on one hand that’s a good thing because that movie is teeming with nostalgia as it is. But on the other hand I was wondering about those four while I was watching the movie. Like imagine poor Thackery, his soul is finally at peace and he’s been reunited with his sister, and he finally gets to relax after guarding the candle for three hundred years, and then he has to watch from the great beyond as Gilbert undoes all of his hard work, poor guy must’ve been having a conniption when he watched Gilbert trick Becca into taking the black flame candle. And as for Max, Allison, and Dani, do they still live in Salem? Because if so, then I wonder what they were doing when the Sanderson sisters returned, do you think Max looked at the sky, saw all the familiar signs of the witches returning, then saw them flying across the sky and was instantly like ‘Nope. Not again. Whichever dumbass virgin that lit that candle can deal with this bullshit on their own.’ I can imagine adult Max just being real tired and having no interest in dealing whatever hocus pocus bullshit is going on in Salem this time.

Book in Hocus Pocus 1: *wakes up after 300 years, desperately needs coffee, only ever half awake* I guess we’re doing this now.

Book in Hocus Pocus 2: *spent 29 years with only Gilbert for company, gets treated like a freak show exhibit in a magic shop mockery of his former home, is force-zapped by Winnie and forced to do a spell against his will* ...Maybe it’s time to rethink my life choices.
