Hm I’m thinking now about like the concept of a sellout and how it’s changed specifically in like. Emo/pop punk. Like specifically listening to IOH and Revenge there’s a lot of parallels to both of them being like ‘yeah we didn’t want to be famous’ like in ‘i wouldnt front the scene if you paid me’/all of this ain’t a scene/‘make us poster boys for the scene but we are not making our acceptance speech’ and like. It’s interesting because our generation of emo doesn’t really consider mcr and fall out boy to be sellouts because like. It seems like they never wanted the fame? Meanwhile 80s-90s emos think of them as sellouts because they got the fame and made it so the genre was no longer defined by basement shows and the underground. Meanwhile what we think of as sellouts like with MGK and Tramp Stamps are so blatant about being sellouts and wanting that fame that we (rightfully) see it as inauthentic and industry plants and selling out and. Idk if that makes sense

🥕(Carrot) - Do you prefer having a protagonist with a fixed design - eg. Pete, Claire etc - or a customisable protagonist?

I like the fixed designs, even if there's certain protag designs I'm meh on. I'm not a fan of customization since I think of the protag as their own character and not a representation of myself, so for me, the more fixed their design, the better. (Although I do like dressing them up in different outfits lol.)

🍒 (Cherries) - Rival marriages - for or against? And would you want them to return in future titles?

i don't inherently hate the concept of rival marriages but I feel like in most of the games they're poorly executed/written (there are some I just... oof). Like for the most part they seem rather pointless, since in most games the rival pairs either don't actually get together or if they do, they don't have kids, which... ??? It breaks the immersion for me when the farmer/spouse is the only one with a kid, and so I do think in that sense, Animal Parade and IoH got the rival marriages right, at least in a mechanics sense.

For as much as RF2 is lacking, (Which, okay not HM per se but adjacent) I do like that they have the rival marriages/kids as a key part of the plot (even tho they don't do any actual events lmao) and it'd be nice to see future games implement this just in a more fleshed out way.

So to answer the question, I don't dislike the rival marriages so much as I dislike how they're presented in most of the games.

🍐(Pear) - Favourite rival pairing (Canon or non-canon)?

Okay I'm going to assume "canon" also refers to the implied pairings in some of the newer games that don't feature actual rival marriages. That being said I like so many ships I have to break this up and do a top 5 for canon and top 5 for non-canon lol. And these are just what have the worms wriggling atm. Other than the #1's (both of which drive me insane and make me want to climb the walls) this is in no particular order.

Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness first impressions

I'm having fun! The controls are clunky but not as bad as I expected, the most frustrating thing is how you have to keep opening and closing your backpack to ship anything, but it's not too bad.

I like how you start out with only six characters, I think populating the island is a better goal than collecting macguffins to raise other islands is bet actually.

Speaking of Sunshine Islands, I'm actually surprised at how similar these games are. Like I knew SI is basically a remaster of IoH, but apart from changing the controls, so much weird stuff from IoH made it into SI. Like time passes too fast. The energy system is awkward to manage. They really didn't fix much except the controls lol

Plus of course there are the typically old HM game problems like a lack of dialogue and not same gender marriage, but I'm not too fussed by that tbh

Overall it holds up pretty well!
