making a character dark and edgy and brooding does not make them more compelling in any way in fact it makes them worse i think
#dale cooper exists in opposition to these descriptors and i love him for that#this post is about merlin tho actually. he is powerful and he does kill a lot of people but hes still very human and#empathetic towards others even if he does close himself off and become a lot more cynical near the end#and edgelordifying him is so. hm.#hes not like. a pinnacle of morality of course but god is anybody#its kind of like how with danny phantom.. a lot of people make him hardly human at all and i just think hes better when he’s all too human#w merlin hes wildly powerful but hes also all too human hes not some horrorcreature idk it feels wrong#wouldn’t crucify anyone for their interpretations of a characters but also I Am Not Looking.#respectfully i disagree
