the Big Two need to hire more women to write comics not just for gender parity's sake or so we can get better-written female characters or any of the other dozen completely valid reasons why we need more women in comics, but also because the perspective a lot of women bring to the superhero genre is fundamentally different from the mostly middle-class white men who dominate the genre
like Ivory Madison portraying the cycle of violence and abuse through the parallel institutions of marriage and the mob in Huntress: Year One to showcase how Helena is both a victim and freedom fighter in the context of her family and cultural history....what man would have thought of that? even Greg Rucka didn't do that, and he basically wrote the book on how to write traumatized religious female vigilantes who have complex relationships with their families
#like I'm not going to say that perspective can ONLY come from a woman (that would be dumb)#(and also to be fair Joey Cavalieri did work with the concept somewhat so I know it can be done)#but that perspective and storytelling narrative is *MUCH* MORE LIKELY to come from a woman than a man#dc comics#helena bertinelli#ivory madison#huntress year one#cry for blood my beloved of all time of course but even that comic didn't do what Huntress Year One did!

#selfie bee#to be honest my stage 2 was just drawing the same picture of Helena Bonham Carter everyday#I still have the folder#friends not only did I drive a BIKE recently I also drove a CAR#all on my own!! （*´▽｀*）#It was very scary and I cried a few times but I did it#in the beginning I had to do a few night shifts in a different city and there was to other way to get there and in the end it was fine#I wonder what other things I am scared of are secretly fine#phonecalls? math?? （●´･△･｀）#I am actually avoiding math right this moment#I've decided to learn how to sew a skirt and did you know that sewing is secretly math#I did not know and now the skirt is very short and the living room is covered in yarn and I have not done any actual sewing yet#but I will do it and maybe its just like driving and you just have to cry a little and then it will be fine#the only truly bad thing that happened while driving is that I got into a thunderstorm one time#and it was night and there were 300 trucks going to opposite way#I tried to focus on the Lizzo song on the radio but I was also crying#if you were a truck driver and you saw a woman 2 months a go at night driving a car crying while singing Juice! watching one of my year 6s properly crying, being hit by the puberty train at full force, telling me they feel lonely and that it doesn't matter that theyre sad, showing clear signs of declining mental health, has actually broken a part of me today
#i want to be there for this kid but ive been moved classes and theres only a half term and 2 weeks left#then they go to mainstream secondary which we all think isnt the best idea as they would thrive at an SEN school#i feel the need to just wrap this kid up in a bubble of support#sitting there watching them cry their little eyes out actually made me teary at one point#put me back in that year 6 classroom i fucking swear to god thats where i need to be#stop talking helena
