First impression

Honestly, don't really remember sorry (this is gonna be a theme). I think I was kind of just like...okay. Antagonist alert. I don't remember when I first fell in love with her, maybe late season 1?

Impression now

Love of my life!!!!!! Truly though, Lemon is one of my favorite characters of all time. The amount of time I've spent thinking about her, analyzing her...unquantifiable.

Favorite moment

Her telling off her mother and then inviting Scarlett out to brunch with her and Magnolia <3 <3 <3 v v important to me.

Idea for a story

I'm gonna preface this with that I'm probably never going to write it, because to be very frank, posting non Zade hod fic feels like talking to a brick wall, but I got a mini fic idea last week in my head of when it comes time to start trying for a family with Lavon, Lemon goes to Zoe for advice because obviously she wouldn't go to Brick on best practices for conception and what not and Zoe's just like. No thank you. And then Lemon threatens to get her medical license revoked if she doesn't help lololol

Unpopular opinion

I don't feel like there's a ton of disagreement in the hod fandom lol but I will say I do not at all like any sort of headcanon that involves Lemon having an unplanned pregnancy. She already had one child kinda dumped on her to take care of, let the next one be on her own terms!!!!!!

Favorite relationship

Ugh, this is hard but I think I ultimately have to go with Lavon. They just...they're just so perfect for each other in every way and I don't think people realize that cause of the bad timing when they first met and the George of it all but like. Idk the fact that Lemon considers Lavon to be the love of her life before they even officially get together, and not George, really says it all to me. Like I'm actually mad we only got the one flashback, cause clearly whatever they had during that six week affair was so insanely deep and beautiful and ugh. And also the fact she dresses younger when she's with him is not a coincidence that costume design is intentional!!!!! Lemon was forced to grow up so fast and preparing to be George's housewife was a big part of that and it's important to me that it was Lavon who brings out Lemon's girlboss side, that first starts as his campaign manager. It's important to me that she dresses younger in that one photo of her he kept and that she is dressed the youngest she ever has been in season 4 when they're getting together. Like it's all so!!!! Lavon brings Lemon back to the person she was before her mother left and the world was still full of possibilities for her!!! Again, it's also not a coincidence that her mother comes back right as she's about to get together with Lavon!!!!

Favorite headcanon

It's not even really a headcanon it's pretty much canon (to me) but Lemon's initial dislike of Zoe is entirely because she thinks Lavon is dating her, and has nothing to do with George until several episodes into s1 when she realizes Zoe likes him (also there's hella projection on Lemon's part as well because she thinks Zoe is attractive and has no idea what to do with that information)

I finally got back to the painting table recently. Usually my long hiatuses from painting are because I get daunted by the prospect of how long it will take me to finish something so I don't start. My local game store (Black Knight Games) is doing one of their "Call to Arms" event which has spurred me on to productivity. A "Call to Arms" is essentially an achievement league for miniature painting whereby you have to take on a project of a certain scope and then work towards completing it by a certain date. You get small rewards for certain milestones and then a bigger reward if you complete your project by the deadline. Usually these Call to Arms events focus on army-scale games that I don't play but this summer they did a "Summer Skirmish" event for a variety of games so I dove in. I'll post details soon about that when I have my project finish (and I'm pleased to say I'm about 90% done with three weeks to go). The models I'm posting today are some that I painted on a short break from my Call to Arms project. I stumbled upon the Medieval Mayhem line of models from Hayland Terrain. They're inspired by the characters in Monty Python & the Holy Grail and they're delightful. They're very old-school in their sculpt style and composition but they're right up my alley. They remind me of Grenadier and Ral Partha models from the 1980s and the fact that their metal gives them a satisfying heft. As much as the plastic sculpts of modern plastic miniatures are better in almost every way in the detail department, there's just something about plonking down a metal model. I splurged and got their "Full Monty" set which has 60+ models, most of which are directly inspired by characters in 'Holy Grail plus a few extras like Merlin, Robin Hood, and The Sheriff of Nottingham. I started out with "The Knights Who Say Ni!" and they were a joy to paint.

Context: Prior to Ruin, of all the songs by The Amazing Devil, I really only know (the song) “The Horror and the Wild” and “That Unwanted Animal”, so I haven’t listened to their second album yet

Oh my god….. I love this vibe so much… I’m pretty sure The Amazing Devil’s lyrical style subconsciously influenced me, especially the conversational format and the odd use of “my love”

Just like “The Horror and the Wild”, this one has a strong beat and consistent powerful rhythm!!! Power!!! AAAAAAA

THE WAY EACH SYLLABLE IS SANG, AND THE ACCENTS ON “strings you tune” and “writer in you” IS SO AAAAAAA

And Madeleine Hyland and Joey Batey’s voices go so well together with this conversational style of lyric that made me think “oh my god so I’m not weird for writing conversations in poetry without names” (See here, here, and here)

But the lyrical and conversational style of that line

The idea of “the writer in you” and “write me well, my love” IS RIGHT UP MY ALLEY

I’m not sure how to explain it (I’m sure I can explain this) but I love the idea of putting emphasis on “the writer” and in the middle of the night I was so oddly touched by these lines

I’ve no other way to show the absolute emphasis at the end of the lines so I put “/“ marks instead because that’s what you do in poetry when you are quoting words that have a line break in between them

HHHHHHHH *tearless sobbing* *if that’s ever a thing* *what’s the word for making the HHHHH noise* *whining?* *whimpering?* (none of that sound right)

My god- Batey’s character (? feel like it’s a certain persona they’re both playing in songs) sounds so tired delivering “You were talking to TREES!” It’s so funny

no kiss very rainy night and very rainy morning .... pouring rain and F50° now at 8 50 am Charles and James Howarth in the servants hall passage - with them till breakfast at 9 ½ - sat talking and hearing A- read French till near 11 - then with Charles and James H- a little while - no other workmen come - (the York joiners always expected - 1 of them primed the servants hall this morning with drab coloured pain from Mr. Haylands’) - sat with A- calculating the solid contents the field gates she is going to have to shew her that Mr. Husband was right they would take about 2 ½ cubic ft. each - not more - Richard Woodhead said they would take 5 cubic ft. each! - sat with A- till about 2 - afterwards finding Booth and 3 masons and 2 lads come stood over them - and kept Booth till 4 setting out the kitchen court ready for Ingham to begin walling early on Monday - Had I- this morning said he should do the job, and I would leave it to him to charge what he thought right - had John Booth too, to complain that Greenwood’s horses got into his oats - the fence wall Greenwoods’ - G- said I ought to mend it - no! said I- G- ought to have seen after it on entering to his farm, but I was willing to do what was right - heated myself with piling up bricks - came in at 6 ¼ - paid Charles H- and with A- sometime on her return from Cliff hill - she went about 3pm or 3 ½ - Moorhouse came about 2 this afternoon to rehang my aunt’s bell - very bad job but very civil man - wrote the above of today till 6 ¾ - Frank brought ...... bricks today - very rainy day till about noon - fair from about 12 for the rest of the day, and fine now at 6 ¾ pm dinner at 7 - coffee - A- read French (her modern history by Michelet) - this left to the subject of Télémaque - had it downstairs and sat reading it till 9 40 then with my aunt till 10 - then in my study reading till 10 55 Lord Lyndhurst’s famous speech against ministries (vid. Herald of Friday 19 August (this present month) - very rainy day till noon, afterwards fair - fine evening F46° now at 10 55 pm

Okay, I wasn't entirely sure what you meant by this, but I'm choosing to interpret it as post series Lemon wakes up in 2011 Lemon's body:

I think the first thing she'd do, because she's not thinking about anyone else in this moment, is break things off with George so she can be with Lavon.

Lavon is thrilled of course, but George is a mess, and it causes a BIG capital M Mess. All of a sudden the Mayor and the Town Lawyer are basically in a blood feud, people take sides (Brick is on George's for sure), it's capital B Bad.

Pretending for a second that Wade and George being kind of at odds in the first few eps was purposeful and their lifelong friendship was not a retcon, Wade and George are not in a good place so Wade chooses Lavon which pisses George off since Lavon was the one who was the cheater and now things between Wade and George are a mess too.

And of course, Lemon's like "holy shit, what have I done. I didn't think this through and do it in a way to prevent all of this Mess."

And that's when Zoe Hart rolls into town.

George and Zoe get together almost immediately. Except it's also a mess because neither one of them are in a good place at all, not even a little bit.

And Wade and Zoe still have that attraction of course. But Wade's self esteem in 2011 is still so low, and to Wade even Complete Wreck George Tucker feels like a better option than himself. How could he ever compete with George? So, he doesn't. And becomes his asshole early s2 self.

And of course, AB is still married to Jake in all of this, who Lemon knows is gonna cheat, but how could you go to your bestest friend and be like "your husband is gonna cheat on you in six months, leave his ass now, also the ex-fiance I just publicly dumped is the man you're meant to be with" without sounding like a loon?

So, Lemon tells Lavon the truth. I'm from x years in the future and we're married and happy but none of this went down the way it was supposed to, please help me fix it.

Lavon is understandably skeptical but he does feel guilty about what he did to George and he hates seeing Wade like this and even his new tenant Zoe Hart seems like she's in a bad place so yeah, okay.

Together, they find a way to expose Jake before he even leaves AB, and then Lemon suggests George should be her divorce lawyer.

AB is just like..."what? You want me to use your mess of an ex-fiance, the corporate lawyer to be my divorce lawyer? Your ex fiance who I don't even like? "And Lemon's like "uh huh yeah you heard me bitch, George is the best man for the job".

And well, AB will admit that she was impressed by the big case George won against Fillmore last year, so okay yeah.

George is understandably confused. "We don't like each other and you took my ex's side in our very public break-up and cheered her on and also I'm not even a divorce lawyer???" But he never liked Jake Nass and he could use an easy win so okay fine. Why not?

While George and AB are forced to spend more time together by necessity, Lavon starts sabotaging shit back at the house, all in an effort to push Zoe and Wade closer (based off memories Wade had told Lemon over the years). He refuses to fix the fuse, claims both the carriage house and the gate house need to be fumigated at the same time so they're forced under one roof, etc. etc.

And since Lemon's hanging around more, by virtue of dating Lavon and all, she starts planting little bugs in Wade's ear. "You deserve better, you could be a great man, I know you secretly like Zoe but you're going about everything entirely the wrong way, etc. etc." Subtlety is not in Lemon's nature.

Lemon also makes an effort to befriend Zoe. There's no George between them now anyway. But of course, Lemon also takes advantage to place some doubts in Zoe's head about George. "And I dated the man for fifteen years, so I know what I'm talking about!" And of course, to not so subtly nudge her towards Wade.

It turns out, getting Wade & Zoe and George & AB together like this is not that hard. By being forced to spend all that time together (plus with Lemon's manipulations), they are able to have the space they need to fall for one another. Zoe and George have a very amicable, "yeah, this was really just a rebound break-up" and that's that.

Getting the bad blood dissolved between the guys is much harder. Specifically between George and Lavon even though Lavon has apologized a thousand times by now. It takes the entire town to be like "George you're so much happier now anyway with AB! You and Lemon never would've worked out! Also we're really really tired of only being able to go to certain places in town" because the entire town took sides like that episode in Gilmore Girls where certain businesses were Team Luke and some were Team Lorelai and you couldn't patronize businesses of the opposite team.

And so the hatchet is reluctantly buried for the sake of the town. Things aren't quite the same, but they're still good. The end.

Not gonna lie the more I think about it, the more I ship hayland (Hayden x Roland). Probably because Hayden was the person Roland seemed to tolerate the most in the book and not try to use, Hayden was also just really chill whenever he was around Roland.
