My state has good news for women for a change!

A Connecticut Democrat successfully changed the wording of new legislation to add the phrase 'expectant mothers', after branding the original suggested language - 'pregnant persons' - an affront to women. 

State Rep. Robyn Porter, a Democrat representing New Haven, proposed an amendment to House Bill 5454 to incorporate the term 'expectant mothers' during discussions on a bill regarding state funding on Thursday. 

'My children call me mother, ma, mommy. It depends on the day,' Porter said Thursday. 'I don't answer to pregnant person or birthing person. That's not what I answer to.

A huge part of my identity is wrapped around being a mother and a grandmother. So I find it an affront that someone would try to tell me that what they're putting on paper for the purpose of policy covers me when I'm telling you that it doesn't,' she continued. 

The bill was originally launched by the Human Services Committee before reaching appropriations to incorporate the phrase 'expectant mothers' to lines five and six.

The original lines of the bill read '… shall create a strategic plan to maximize federal and state resources for mental health services for children six years old and younger, their caregivers and pregnant persons.'

Lawmakers voted 32-16 to adopt the term 'mothers' following a 35-minute debate.

The unexpected decision was achieved through a coalition of Republicans and members of the legislature's black and Puerto Rican Caucus - with all 16 opposing votes coming from Democrats.

Porter stated, 'We want to talk about discrimination? Well, I'm here to tell you that black people in America know that very well.

'This is where I really get frustrated in this building because what we say is dismissed, disregarded, disrespected. … I'm always asked to compromise when I come to the table, and I'm expected to do so. 

She added, 'We were mothers first. Yes, times are changing, and I'm fine with that because that's life... But you don't get to grow, and you don't get to talk about diversity, equity, and inclusion and exclude me and the other women like me who identify as mothers. You don't get to do that.'

She said some women 'want to be called mothers. What's wrong with that?'   

The primary advocate for the original language of 'pregnant persons' in the bill was Rep. Jillian Gilchrest, a Democrat from West Hartford. 

'Pregnant person is actually the inclusive term,' Gilchrest said. 'It is a gender neutral term, and it would encompass expectant mothers, pregnant women. 

'As we talk about DEI, this is the direction we are hoping to move in in this state and ideally across the country.

'And so the term pregnant persons is the more inclusive term, and so I would ask my colleagues to oppose the amendment.'

Many legislators representing the state's major urban cities rallied in support of Porter's amendment.

State Rep. Geraldo Reyes, a Democrat from Waterbury and a prominent figure in the black and Puerto Rican Caucus, emphasized the cultural significance of motherhood.

'Culturally, as a Puerto Rican person, there is nothing more sacred than a mother... There is only one mother … Just as I opposed the word Latinx, I oppose the word expecting person,' he said.

Similarly, Rep. Minnie Gonzalez, a Democrat from Hartford backed Porter's amendment and emphasized his support for the LGBT community.

'It's nothing against the LGBT community. It's nothing about them,' he said. 'Nothing against them. We support them … We recognize that they have rights, but where are my rights? I have the right to defend my rights.'

Rep. Anthony Nolan, a New London Democrat was emphasized then importance of the word 'mother' in black communities. 

'I'm just astonished by some of the things that are being said,' he said.  'In black culture, who really are ingrained with that word mother, for us to go home and call our mother something other than a mother, we would end up with a slap across the face. 

'We're not removing anything. We're just asking to add something that is dear to those that are speaking in regards to it, especially in the black culture.' 

Last year, the CDC was slammed for 'appalling' new health guidance in which it replaced the word 'women' with the gender-neutral term 'pregnant people.'

The erasure of the term women can be seen in recommendations for a host of respiratory virus vaccinations for pregnant women.

This includes material promoting shots for Covid, flu and RSV - a common respiratory condition that most affects older adults and young children.

Although usually mild, all three viruses can be deadly in pregnant women.

All gender-specific terms — including 'she,' 'her,' 'women' and 'mother' — were replaced with gender-neutral terms like 'pregnant people' and 'pregnant person.' 

A doctors' organization said the CDC was 'cowering to political forces' at the expense of sound medical advice at the time.

Conclusion: I think Miriam killed the six children that moved into the Snake Hill Meadow Church and attached orphanage, and only John and Lisa survived. They are the ‘’two left to walk as husks’’.

Apparently John’s mother is Meredith Ward.

Because a letter from John in Faith chapter 1(his third letter in the wiki) says he experiences deception from the demon, including Amy bringing up his mother’s name.

 Amy does mock him by mentioning someone named Meredith in chapter 3 and how John ‘could not save her’. This may have happened very early since John was at an orphanage, having lost his mom perhaps?

The officer who survived a purported 80-round ambush on police in Connecticut may have ended it single-handedly with one shot that felled the alleged gunman, new video indicated Sunday.

The state inspector general's office released the bodycam video of Officer Alec Iurato on Sunday as part of its investigation of the shootout Wednesday night, which left three people — two officers and a suspect — dead in Bristol, about 20 miles southwest of Hartford.

During the firefight, Iurato, who was struck and seriously injured, hobbled toward a pair of police SUVs to take cover as rounds rocketed ominously and a woman's screams filled the air, the video indicated.

The inspector general's office, under the leadership of Robert J. Devlin Jr., is among the agencies investigating the officer's use of force. As it released the dramatic and potentially disturbing video Saturday, the watchdog stopped just short of calling Iurato a hero.

"Despite sustaining a gunshot wound to his leg, Officer Iurato was able to make his way around the house and back to a Bristol Police Department cruiser," the office said in a statement.

"From that vantage point, he fired one shot striking and killing Nicholas Brutcher," the statement continued.

The video includes the sound and rhythm of Iurato's limp as he moves from being a virtual sitting duck to finding protection behind the panels of a Ford Police Interceptor Utility, vehicles often equipped with ballistic-resistant front door panels.

The gunman fired more than 80 rounds, the inspector general's office said. Law enforcement sources told NBC New York the weapon was a semiautomatic rifle similar to an AR-15.

Iurato, 26, lowers his body, leans against a closed driver's door, looks ahead and raises his gun with two hands toward the top of the SUV's windshield, the video shows. A pop rings out.

"One down," Iurato says over his radio as he limps to the target, briefly illuminating the gunman with the tactical flashlight attached to his service weapon. "Suspect down."

On July 1st 1884 Allan Pinkerton, the Scottish-born detective, died.

Not all Scots that I post about should be looked upon as good people, we do have to acknowledge this in our history,  scratch beneath the subject in most cases and you will find fault, this is certainly true of Pinkerton.

Born in Glasgow, on the 25th of August 1819 his father was a sergeant of the Glasgow municipal police and died in 1828 of injuries received from a prisoner in his custody.

In 1842 Allan emigrated to Chicago, Illinois, before moving to Dundee, Kane County, Illinois, where he established a cooperage business. Here he ran down a gang of counterfeiters, and he was appointed a Deputy Sheriff of Kane County in 1846 and immediately afterwards of Cook County, with headquarters in Chicago.

In Chicago he organized a force of detectives to capture thieves who were stealing railway property, and this organization developed in 1852 into Pinkerton’s National Detective Agency, of which he took sole charge in 1853. He was especially successful in capturing thieves who stole large amounts from express companies. In 1866 his agency captured the principals in the theft of $700,000 from Adams Express Company safes on a train of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railway, and recovered all but $12,000 of the stolen money.

In February 1861 Pinkerton found evidence of a plot to assassinate President-elect Abraham Lincoln upon his arrival in Baltimore on his way to Washington; as a result, Lincoln passed through Baltimore at an early hour in the morning without stopping. In April 1861 Pinkerton, on the suggestion of General George B. McClellan, organized a system of obtaining military information in the Southern states. From this system he developed the US Secret Service, of which he was in charge throughout the war, under the assumed name of Major E. J. Allen.

Pinkerton was not without controversy, one of his detectives, James McParlan, in 1873-76 lived among the Molly Maguires in Pennsylvania and secured evidence which led to the breaking up of what was considered a criminal organization. His detectives were also used to escort strike breakers during the era.

In 1869 Pinkerton suffered a partial stroke of paralysis, and thereafter the management of the detective agency devolved chiefly upon his sons, William Allan and Robert. He died in Chicago on the 1st of July 1884. He published The Molly Maguires and the Detectives , The Spy of the Rebellion, in which he gave his version of President-elect Lincoln’s journey to Washington; and a memoir, Thirty Years a Detective. The Pinkerton National Detective Agency continues to trade in the US to this day.

MARY’S LAMB

1908

Mary’s Lamb is a three-act presentation written, composed, produced, directed, and starring Richard Carle. It is based on the French play Madame Mongodin by Ernest Blum and Raoul Roché, featuring musical contributions by Robert Hood Bowers, and H.L. Heartz. 

An English language production of Madame Mongodin in London was titled Mrs. Ponderbury’s Past. 

Set in Haverstraw New York, it is the story of Leander Lamb, henpecked husband of shrewish Mary Lamb, and how he sets out to become master of his house and his own fate. In a burst of enthusiasm, Leander makes an appointment with a retired actress in an artist's studio, where the two are observed by Lamb's wife!

The American version premiered on October 28, 1907 at Philadelphia’s Walnut Street Theatre starring popular comic Harry Conor. It was teamed with another play by Carle The Spring Chicken, starring Carle himself. This led to many critics joking about barnyard animals and menu fare.

None the less, the panned production moved on to Trenton, Brooklyn, Hartford, Burlington, Buffalo, and even Canada, where audiences seemed to be enjoying themselves, while critics carped.

This startling item appeared on December 8, 1907, but it would prove only partly true. The production itself was shelved, true, but the play would live again. This time starring Carle himself. And in Atlantic City. 

In mid-February 1908, Carle finished-up The Spring Chicken and went back to New York to begin rehearsing his new production of Mary’s Lamb.

The new Lamb would have its debut on March 3rd in Columbus OH. The number of musical numbers went from four to sixteen!  The piece was now a full-fledged musical comedy. 

“Richard Carle... is the saving grace of ‘Mary's Lamb,’ the musical farce in which he has Just opened a month's engagement at the Illinois theater. He ought to be, for he created it, book, lyrics, score, and chorus effects. Yet it is not Mr. Carle's authorship, but his merit as a comedian, that carries the thing off. When he Is not on the stage the entertainment is limp and devoid of originality.” ~ CHARLES W. COLLINS

“Richard Carle is said to have made ‘Mary’s Lamb’ fully as Frenchy as ‘The Spring Chicken.’ Some bits of it are declared to be daring if not nauseating.” ~ TIMES-DEMOCRAT

In April 1908, as the new ewe toured, Harry Conor (birthname John Henry O’Connor) brought a lawsuit against Mr. Carle, claiming he was contracted to appear in Mary’s Lamb for two seasons and that $30,000 salary was owned to him. Conor contended that Carle dismissed him in order to save money and put himself back in the limelight. 

The play had been selected to open a brand new theatre on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City named the Apollo owned an operated by Samuel F. Nixon. When built it boasted more than 1,600 seats and all modern conveniences. Nixon’s Apollo Theatre would become the premiere new play incubator on the East Coast. It eventually was converted to a movie theatre showing its final film in August 1968. It converted into the Apollo Burlesque Theatre and was demolished in the 1970’s. Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum currently occupies the address. 

The opening night was celebrated on May 13, 1908, which also marked the Atlantic City opening of Mary’s Lamb. For this new, Broadway-bound production, the leading role was played by the author. 

The grand opening attracted a prestigious audience from Atlantic City, Philadelphia, and Broadway. 

Mary’s Lamb opened on Broadway on May 25, 1908 at the New York Theatre (1514-16 Broadway at 44th Street). It took a ‘summer break’ from July 19th, resuming performances at the New York on August 24th and closing on September 5th for a total of 80 Broadway performances. 

About the venue: Built in 1895 by the Hammersteins as the Music Hall boasting 2600 seats, it was renamed in 1912 and briefly called the Moulin Rouge in 1915. Shortly afterward, it became part of the Loew’s movie theatre / vaudeville chain, being demolished in 1935. 

During his summer break, Carle leased a yacht!  When the play returned on August 24th, it was with a nearly all new cast surrounding Carle. 

The songs of Mary’s Lamb were published in sheet music collections and in Sunday newspaper supplements.

After the play closed in New York, Carle continued to tour it. The tour continued into May 1909.

It's after midnight and completely dark in the hotel suite, a familiar arm is wrapped securely around her waist but she still has enough room to slide out if necessary. They don't come to the strip often, not with a sizeable home in Summerlin but at his persistent behesting? She really had no choice and had been told in a rather stern tone tò pack for at minimal two weeks. Mary knew why though, the house was — for lack of better words here — hosting quite a few important guests from out of town. The guest house was for any added security personnel, the big kahunas were staying in the main house. The main gate had been alerted to the fact that a maids service was going to be coming every three days and everyone had to vacate the property in order to let them do their jobs. 

The only rule she had? Other than anything you break, you replace — no smoking inside either house. They've got security cameras in every important room / hallway, even in the garage so there was nowhere to hide. Roman had agreed to make whomever broke that rule stay in a hotel next time they came to visit. It was important that they showed unity, because this lifestyle was nothing if you weren't not only a unified front but also loyal. Her father had been the boss of the crime family in Hartford, before her parents got divorced and her mom moved them to Miami. After her mom's death, Mary relocated to Vegas and put that life behind her.

Or so she thought because somehow in 2018, that life found her again but for a different family entirely. She had to cut ties with aĺl her clients then, because running errands for a Samoan crime family ( with it being understood that she does retrieve hard drugs, help them place illegal bets, nor get them ladies or men of the evening ) was a full-time job. If it wasn't tasks for the upper bosses than it was the wives, girlfriends, or the lower level guys ( and sometimes the lower level ones went with her because it could be a LOT. ) That's how she met Roman, he was one of the sons of the hierarchy bosses — him and his cousins were running things in parts of Florida, Georgia and California. Naturally they wanted to progress further and Vegas had always been mob country since the days of Bugsy Siegel.

Sliding out from under his arm, she's quiet as possible while sneaking into the bathroom to wash her face and brush her teeth. Putting her hair up in a high ponytail after doing her business, at this hour people were either still gambling or stumbling into their rooms drunkenly. On the shorter timeframe the QQQ is at risk for some downside with the IWM in a messy short term uptrend and the SPY the strongest but also seeing some profit taking show up.
