El 31/7/20 marcó el 50 aniversario de la abolición de la ración diaria de ron que la marina inglesa le daba a sus integrantes, tradición que existió durante unos 250 años. Dado que Tot era el nombre de esa ración y Black al mejor estilo del Viernes Negro, por ponerle un toque tétrico a un día, para conmemorar los 50 años de la fecha, Oliver Chilton, master blender de @elixirheaven, la destilería creadora de este ron ha creado una edición limitada del ron «estilo naviero»: @blacktotrum 50th Anniversary. . El líquido celebra al Caribe como lugar de tantas expediciones patrocinadas por la marina inglesa, pero también como cuna del ron. Se trata de un blend con rones de cuatro países, incluyendo #DemeraraDistillers de Guyana, @foursquare_rum_distillery de Barbados, #TrinidadDistillers de Trinidad y Tobago, y @hampdenestaterum de Jamaica. También hay cantidades pequeñas de Caroni (Trinidad) y el ron de la marina original producido en los años 70. En la parte trasera de la botella está marcado exactamente el origen, añejamiento y porcentaje de cada uno de los rones contenidos. Chinotte is a myrtle-leaved orange tree and the main difference is to have a bittersweet finish. Instead of Cruzan blackstrap, I used a mix of Hamilton 151 demerara rum and Hampden Overproof. Quizá uno de los rones que menos llaman la atención por su apariencia de trago para destruirse o un simple pasatiempoo, el Fire Jamaica Overproof de @hampdenestaterum es exactamente lo que promete: un ron blanco con poco (o ningún) añejamiento, un contenido de 63% alcohol y no mucho más que ofrecer. . En nariz apenas si se siente una nota frutal, pero fuerte de alcohol por razones obvias. En boca algo más frutal, con notas de piña, merey, almendras y un dulce como de melaza. . A veces recomiendo un ron para fumar o no, pero no me acercaría a este ron con una llama abierta. Por $30 es una buena opción entre los Overproof, pero no esperes un gran ron en términos generales.
