Hunger (1.6k, T) by @mydogwatson
It all started when he was seven. Not really because of the ants.
Sex Ed on the Fly (2.2k - E) by @shirleycarlton
When John’s five-year-old daughter walks in on them and asks them what they’re doing, John is mortified to the depth of his bones. Sherlock, however, calmly decides to answer her honestly – to John’s absolute astonishment.
Don't Read the Last Page (4.5k - T) by @raina-at
What does it mean to be brave? Or: Sherlock and John spend New Year's Day with a grumpy toddler and have a long overdue conversation.
A Light in the Window (4.2k - G) by emilycare (@keirgreeneyes) - inspired by Winter to Spring by @blogstandbygo
It had been some months that Sherlock had been cogitating about how to handle the coming conflict, before John brought it to a head.
“I think it will be good for you if you came this week.” “To church. You think it would be good for me to come to church.”
Fortune Favours (5.5k - M) by @simplyclockwork
On military leave, John Watson discovers that his sister has signed him up for a blind date book event. The set-up is simple: one person brings a book and ends up on a blind date with whoever chooses their contribution.
Plot Devices (5k - T) by @calaisreno
A nodus tollens moment: Sherlock realises that the plot of his life doesn't make any sense. He brainstorms.  "This is the problem: John has found a woman as clever as me, but much nicer... There are many ways this can go. Eleven possibilities, at least."
Alone On the Water (7.7k - G) by @madlori
Sherlock Holmes never expected to live a long life, but he never imagined that it would end like this.
An Ordinary Man (11.6k - E) by @lurikko
Life is an illusion and love is the best thing.
The Shadows of Snowflakes (12.7k - M) by spigu (@mirrorlocked)
It's been winter in London for years, Sherlock is cursed, and John may or may not be able to help him.
The Postcard Tales (SERIES) (15.6k - T) by @mydogwatson
Johnlock vignettes inspired by a set of postcards depicting Penguin book covers.
What Happens to the Heart (31.8k - M) by Susan
Someone wants John Watson dead and is willing to pay a lot of money to make it happen.
Anchor Point (50k - E) by @trickybonmot
The world tunes in nightly for Sherlock, the ultimate in reality TV: Sherlock Holmes, a real person with a legendary name, unknowingly lives out his life in a staged setting contrived by his brother. Things get complicated when a retired army doctor joins the show to play the part of Sherlock's closest friend.
Noise Complaint (85k - E) by @simplyclockwork
One loud upstairs neighbour and three days of non-stop party music lead Sherlock to an unexpected meeting.

Fortune Favours
by @simplyclockwork - (words: 5k / r: M) - Alternate First Meeting
On military leave, John Watson discovers that his sister has signed him up for a blind date book event. The set-up is simple: one person brings a book and ends up on a blind date with whoever chooses their contribution.
To say that John is reluctant to attend is an understatement. Luckily, sparks fly between him and a stunning new author when he makes an unorthodox selection from the book choices.
What a lovely re-imagining of their first meeting! The blind date setting provides some delightful anticipation as they get into something they didn't even sign up for (yay for meddling siblings!). And the banter between John and Harry is everything we didn't get from the show.

An Ordinary Man
by @lurikko - (words: 11k / rated: E) - Science Fiction AU
Life is an illusion and love is the best thing.
In the author's words, "mainly, they're just falling in love". And you believe you know what's going on, until you suddenly don't. Oh boy, I wasn't ready for that rug pull...

The Shadows of Snowflakes
by spigu (@mirrorlocked) - (words: 12k / r: M) - Magical Realism AU
John Watson is the anticipation of a lightning strike, the seconds before electricity surges through the sky, enough to make the hair on the back of Sherlock’s neck stand up. But the actual strike never comes and he’s left waiting, holding his breath, skin prickling. Desperate for something to change.
“Afghanistan or Iraq?” he asks. The words taste like a beginning.
It's been winter in London for years, Sherlock is cursed, and John may or may not be able to help him.
I *love* it when the magical elements in a Magical Realism AU retain their mysterious, inscrutable nature - it is what it is, no logical explanation needed. You can certainly find that in this fic, along with such a writing mastery that will evoke a whole vivid imagery, and leave you in awe.

House of Light
by AlgySwinburne (@algyswinburne) - (words: 17149 - rated: E)
“For god’s sake,” Sherlock blusters, “John and I are--”
“Happy. So very happy,” John cuts in loudly. He gives Sherlock a resounding slap on the back, jerking Sherlock forward. “In fact, we couldn’t be happier, did I already say that? The two of us. Sherlock and I, that is. Because we’re together--in a relationship--as you so astutely noticed before we could break the news. So. Yes. Thank you, Mrs Holmes.”
Fake relationship to spare Mummy Holmes a heartbreak? Yes, please. Also, Sherlock fully exercises his right to have the birthday gift he wants the most ;)

Ballistics Report
by @iwearthedamnhat - (words: 8191 / rated E)
Captain John Watson. He hasn’t been addressed that way in years. But here, writhing and lurching under his fingertips, a high-functioning sociopath is submitting to his every command with no hesitation. It’s irresistible. John could get used to this.
Finest top-quality fluff & smut fic, perfect ratio of feelings and steaming hot action, features a very pliable Sherlock to a naughty, commanding John Watson, fatigues, dog tags and safe kink exploration. What's not to love?

Sleepwalkers
by ArwaMachine (@arwamachine) - (words: 27618 - rated: E)
Five times Sherlock and John share a bed after a near-death experience, and one time they share a bed for…other reasons.
Hurt/Comfort at its peak. As our boys progressively learn how to be closer to each other, prepare to be swept up by a whole range of feelings. Features the most intimate writing and a piece of furniture which should be nominated as Best Supporting Actor.

Rewind
by @khorazir - (words: 47553 - rated: M)
When Sherlock is six years old, he finds out that strange things happen when the mole on his neck is touched under certain circumstances: it switches him back in time. Over the years, he discovers both the advantages and disadvantages of being thus granted a way to relive certain events, to reconsider decisions and remedy mistakes – until an accidental touch sends him back to Barts morgue on 29th January 2010, thus undoing eight years of acquaintance with John Watson. Is this a most unfortunate incident, a curse, even? Or is it indeed a second chance to finally shape his relationship with John the way it should have been from the beginning?
In which we follow Sherlock into a riveting journey, as he asks himself: what if... things went differently? What an absolutely fantastic, brilliant idea. This fic HEALED my poor heart.

Human Behaviour
by toyhto - (words: 21336 - rated: E)
Sherlock wakes up after a nap and finds out that sixty-five years have passed. Also, there's a human living in his apartment.
If you think "vampire AU" necessarily equals gloomy gothic atmosphere, this one will surprise you (well, Sherlock is still dramatic, but just because he's Sherlock). I laughed so much I was in stitches!

L.O.V.E.
by @helloliriels - (words: 27693 / rated: M)
John Watson just wanted a soulmate. His sister, just wanted this game to be over ... enter Sherlock Holmes.
Fate, it seems, has its own plans - and the game? Is never over!
...a *slightly* biased rec once again ;) beta-reading this one has been a joy and a ride! Italy and a series of rather fortunate events help our boys find each other. Let yourself be carried away by pure, unadulterated romanticism <3

Every Atom of This Summer on My Tongue
by @221b-carefulwhatyouwishfor - (words: 9524 - rated: M)
While vacationing at his family’s villa on the Italian coast, 18-year-old Sherlock finds himself attracted to John Watson, an older American graduate student working on his first novel. They fall into a passionate affair, desperately wishing their languid afternoons and sultry summer nights would never end.
Having a really soft spot for Call Me By Your Name, how not to love this fic which perfectly captures its atmosphere? Additional plus point: it takes the story even further in time, with a different (and arguably, better) ending than the original.

Bakers with Benefits
by @raina-at - (words: 83130 / rated: E)
Sherlock Holmes has a successful YouTube baking channel, but what he really wants is his own bakery. When an old friend sends him a call for the very first Great British Bake Off, he seizes the opportunity to finally win a sponsor for his bakery. Here's the plan: Win Bake Off, get the bakery, don't fall in love with the handsome Army doctor at the neighbouring station. Easy.
... aaand here's a super late rec again. I usually shy away from cooking/baking AUs (I'm just too biased on the topic IRL to look up for it in fiction) but this one grabbed all my attention and enthusiasm right from the start. All the characters are still "them", the Bake Off format provides a great frame for the story, and baking and sentiment go hand in hand.
