✨ Book Review ✨✨ T: Allegedly A: Tiffany .D. Jackson @writeinbk Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 I gave this book 4.5 rating because I hated the ending! I had so much questions like how did the appeal go? Did her mom go to jail or worse couldn’t take the pressure and killed herself? Did Mary finally take the SAT? Go to college! So many unanswered questions! But overall I loved the book it was a real page turner! I love Tiffany’s writing I was about to visualize everything in such a vivid way! The book is about a 16 year old African American girl named Mary she was wrongfully accused of a horrific crime, killing a white baby at the age of 9. Of all things to get accused of. Now 16 with the world ahead of her, all she wanted was to grasp the world ahead of her but that case was suffocating her. My favorite character was Ms. Claire. I hated Mr. Winters, I had many instances where I wanted to punch him. ✨✨ Book Review ✨✨ . . T: Pride A: Ibi Zoboi . . . Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ . . . This is a great pallet cleanser after you read a traumatic book. It’s a cute puppy love story of two young teens, Zuri and Darius. This was a great remix to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Zuri who takes pride in her Bushwick neighborhood was not so excited when Darius and his wealthy family moved across the street. Seeing how Zuri really couldn’t bare being around Darius, she felt he was very arrogant and judgmental but somehow they found a common ground and fell in love with each other. This is a great quick read but a little too teenish for my taste. I love a good YA every now and then but this seemed a little too young. This book have a great storyline and written beautifully. ✨✨ Book Review ✨✨ T: Dear Haiti, Love Alaine A: Maika Moulite and Maritza Moulite . . . Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ . . . Where do I start? The journey of Alaine was truly a great one. After the “incident” (which could’ve ended badly) was the beginning of a great learning experience. Alaine had one job to do , but in Alaine true fashion, she messed it up and almost killed someone. After this incident, she was sent to Haiti (which was always a threat in my household if I was to do something bad). There she set out to learn about the history of our homeland but instead she learned more about her family history on this said family curse. There were some things I learned from this book that I didn’t know before about my beloved homeland. I thought some of it was false but when I asked my father about it he confirmed! Set on a mission to end the family curse, Alaine didn’t expect to see or go through the things she went through. This is such an interesting read, especially for a Haitian American like me. I love the incorporation of Creole throughout the book, My heart really went out to Alaine because I couldn’t imagine what it would be like at the age of 17 to watch your mother’s mind wither away slowly and it’s nothing you could do about it. This page turner touched base on the life of many Haitians or you know someone’s life who is similar. This book brought on so many emotions because how much it touched home for me. Do I recommend?
