Homes built by Timber Trails Development Company and designed by Julie Howard (previously featured here – a must-see post!, here, here, here, here, here & here) always become very popular whenever I share them here on Home Bunch or on my Instagram.
Here, the designer explains more details about this coastal farmhouse with fresh home decor ideas: “The inspiration behind our Timber Trails Beach House was thinking about when it was going to hit the market. It was built as a spec house that we knew would hit the market in February. February in Chicago is pretty dreary and everyone seems to be looking forward to spring break. I kept seeing the hanging chairs from Serena and Lily coming through my IG feed and I was inspired to build a house that would be worthy of those cool chairs. The beach house was underway!”

“Once the ceiling detail of shiplap and white beams went up, I instantly thought we needed a basket type color up there. The light fixtures were the perfect beachy choice to really draw your eye up. “I selected this wallpaper after all the colors were selected. It just happened to have the PERFECT shades to tie the whole house together. Every contractor that entered the house was sure to tell me how much they loved the wallpaper. That never happens as they usually have a lot of opinions about choices like that. I could not have been more thrilled the day it went up. The whole house was tied together. I think people underestimate the power of wallpaper. It really should not be cut from the budget because it’s usually one of the most memorable parts of any design.” – Julie Howard – interior designer for Timber Trails Development Company.

The horizontal lines on the windows inspired me to take the shelves all the way across the windows on the main wall of the kitchen. When we solidified the beach theme the color I choose for the island and shelves was the next decision. The color is actually far darker and more grey in person than in the photos. I based the color of the island on the tile I chose for the fireplace.” – Julie Howard.

New 2018 Family Home Decor Trends How wonderful it is to start a brand new year with you all! Often I look back and I still can’t believe I started Home Bunch almost ten years ago and I feel this huge gratitude to each and every one of you that day after day come to read my posts and be part of this community. I honestly hope your year is filled with blessings and special moments. Today, I am also very happy to be featuring a beautifully designed family home by Shuman Mabe Interiors, LLC. As you will see, this home features many ideas that we will continue to see in 2018. The interior designers and the builder, The Cottage Home Company, had the pleasure of helping these clients from Wisconsin from start to finish with this newly-built home. The clients have family in Florida that come to stay a few months out of the year, so they wanted the space to be practical and able to accommodate their large family and grandkids! Since the property sits on the inter-coastal, they wanted to keep a coastal Florida vibe, while incorporating a modern and timeless touch. The designers call it modern coastal! Let’s take a look! New 2018 Family Home Decor Trends Siding is Chelsea Gray by Benjamin Moore and trim is White Dove by Benjamin Moore. Front Porch Benjamin Moore Chelsea Gray HC-168 is one of the most popular Benjamin Moore grey paint colors and it works great on exteriors, front doors and cabinetry. Front porch rockers and garden stools are by Grandin Road. Accent pillows are William Sonoma Home. Porch Flooring The front porch features natural stone tile. Swing Bed The porch swing bed is by The Porch Swing Company – similar here, here & here. Front Door One thing we’ll see more often in 2018 is dark interior doors, especially for the front door. This one is painted in Iron Ore- SW7069- Sherwin Williams. Flooring: 7″ Aged French Oak Marcantonio. Foyer Foyer features paneled walls and arched ceiling. Mixed metals bring a transitional feel to this classic space. Entry table and art is from Trowbridge Art Gallery via ACP Home Interiors – similar here. Paneling & Trim Paint Color Throughout the House: Valspar Swiss Coffee 7002-16 Sconces are Visual Comfort. Lighting Visual Comfort Medium Darlana Lantern is a best seller and it will continue to be popular in 2018. This lighting is a favorite of mine because it works everywhere, from foyers to kitchens! Kitchen Besides having two islands, this kitchen offers perfect symmetry and classic elements that will stand the test of time. Kitchen Island Dimension: 48″ x 114″ Dining Room Kitchen opens to an inviting dining room with bar. Ceiling is lightly whitewashed tongue and groove with white painted beams. Paint Color Paint Color: Modern Gray by Sherwin Williams. Get the Look: Bar Dining room also features a bar with herringbone backsplash tile and paneled appliances. Countertop Marble-looking quartz will be stronger than ever in 2018. White marble is always a favorite but not always the best choice for kitchen countertops due its high maintenance. This quartz – Zodiaq Calacatta Natura, gives you the marble look for less. Notice the coffered ceiling in family room. Great Room Paint Color Wall Color: Modern Gray SW7632 Sherwin Williams. Sofa and Swivel gliders are Four Seasons Furniture with Sunbrella performance fabrics. Coffee table, rug, bench, 2 petrified pieces of wood tables (in between rockers) from RH. Shiplap Staircase Is anyone tired of shiplap yet? It appears not! This farmhouse-inspired look will continue to fill blogs and magazines alike! To Get The Look: Use 1/2 thick 5.5″ mdf base, gaped to look like shiplap. I love this look and think it yields a cleaner looking finished product. Beach House Mudroom This beach house-inspired mudroom features plenty of storage and an attractive neutral color scheme. Outdoors The outdoors is all about entertaining with a large pool, spa and kitchen. Cement Tile Cement tile is making its way to the outdoors and I am loving this idea! I love sharing the beautiful homes M House Development builds (previously featured here, here, here, here, here & here) and I am excited to share one of their most recent projects.

I tend to prefer traditional homes more than modern homes because you rarely find a modern home with personality and warmth, but happily this is not the case here. As you can see, this home has a strong presence and character without losing its welcoming feel. This builder really knew how to add balance to this home.

Utah New-construction Home
Before finding the right lot and a builder you can trust to build your dream home, we all go through many years (or at least months) of collecting inspiring ideas for our new-construction home. Interior Design Ideas
Hello, my friends! It’s wonderful to have you on Home Bunch today. I am excited to share this newly-built home because I feel it has so many inspiring interior design ideas.
Located in Western Springs, Illinois, this family home was recently built by Timber Trails Development Company and with interiors by Julie Howard. If you’ve read the blog for a while, you might recall seeing another home designed by them here not too long ago. In fact, that one has became a very popular blog post on the blog and on Pinterest.
What I love most about this home is the navy blue kitchen and the millwork used throughout the house. I feel that these elements really create beautiful backdrops to the fine furnishings.

Exterior Details: Siding and shakes are Hardie Grey Slate. The designer color matched the front door to the Grey Slate. Trim is Hardie Arctic White. The stone is Blue River Select Gray. The brick is Aztec White and the shingles are Aged Pewter.

Blue Navy Kitchen
We had a few possible buyers come through and express that they were tired of white kitchens. Since that’s the majority of what we create, we thought we’d better incorporate some color and wood and see how it goes. When choosing a color, Navy Blue seemed to be the right choice as it reads as a neutral. Navy goes with everything when you’re putting outfits together; navy works in interiors much the same way. Navy is so easy going with other colors and styles. We couldn’t be happier with the result!
Wall color is Benjamin Moore Classic Grey OC-23.
Appliances
The kitchen has 4 ovens and is designed for someone who loves to cook.
Appliances are all Thermador – Similar Refrigerator, Range, Ovens.

Upper Cabinet Decor
Do you ever wonder what to place on the top cabinets? In this kitchen, the designer placed a single white pitcher in each glass cabinet. This draws your eye to it, plus it’s great storage for items not used all the time.

Living Room
This room is about 30×17′ with 10′ ceilings. It is huge! To bring detail and coziness to the large space, Julie designed a coffered ceiling and a fireplace mantel that drew your eye up to the ceiling detail. The cased openings surrounding the room also pull it in so the room feels cozy and not one huge open space into the kitchen. Sometimes just dropping a header and pulling wing walls in does the trick from turning an open floor plan that feels cold into a warm inviting space.

Master Bedroom
The master bedroom has a beautiful tray ceiling. Instead of the typical expected application of grey on walls and white on the ceiling, the designer wanted to switch it around. She added panel molding to the walls and sprayed the whole room Benjamin Moore Simply White. Then she painted the ceiling Ozark Shadows by Benjamin Moore (her favorite true grey paint color). The beautiful ivory shade light fixture completes the room.

Interior Design Ideas
Hello, my friends! It’s wonderful to have you on Home Bunch today. I am excited to share this newly-built home because I feel it has so many inspiring interior design ideas.
Located in Western Springs, Illinois, this family home was recently built by Timber Trails Development Company and with interiors by Julie Howard. If you’ve read the blog for a while, you might recall seeing another home designed by them here not too long ago. In fact, that one has became a very popular blog post on the blog and on Pinterest.
What I love most about this home is the navy blue kitchen and the millwork used throughout the house. I feel that these elements really create beautiful backdrops to the fine furnishings.

Interior Design Ideas
Exterior Details: Siding and shakes are Hardie Grey Slate. The designer color matched the front door to the Grey Slate. Trim is Hardie Arctic White. The stone is Blue River Select Gray. The brick is Aztec White and the shingles are Aged Pewter.

Blue Navy Kitchen
We had a few possible buyers come through and express that they were tired of white kitchens. Since that’s the majority of what we create, we thought we’d better incorporate some color and wood and see how it goes. When choosing a color, Navy Blue seemed to be the right choice as it reads as a neutral. Navy goes with everything when you’re putting outfits together; navy works in interiors much the same way. Navy is so easy going with other colors and styles. We couldn’t be happier with the result!
Wall color is Benjamin Moore Classic Grey OC-23.
Appliances
The kitchen has 4 ovens and is designed for someone who loves to cook.
Appliances are all Thermador – Similar Refrigerator, Range, Ovens.

Upper Cabinet Decor
Do you ever wonder what to place on the top cabinets? In this kitchen, the designer placed a single white pitcher in each glass cabinet. This draws your eye to it, plus it’s great storage for items not used all the time.

Living Room
This room is about 30×17′ with 10′ ceilings. It is huge! To bring detail and coziness to the large space, Julie designed a coffered ceiling and a fireplace mantel that drew your eye up to the ceiling detail. The cased openings surrounding the room also pull it in so the room feels cozy and not one huge open space into the kitchen. Sometimes just dropping a header and pulling wing walls in does the trick from turning an open floor plan that feels cold into a warm inviting space.

Bedroom & Bathroom Reno
Recently renovated by Alison Giese of Alison Giese Interiors (make sure to follow her on Instagram!), this bedroom and bathroom renovation will certainly inspire you. Here, the designer share more details: “The clients approached us to help them make sense of their master bedroom, that presented with an asymmetrical ceiling, many dark colors on the wall, carpet, and furniture. We aimed to create light and symmetry, and proposed taking advantage of the sloped ceiling by creating an elegant, tented effect with a subtly-striped wallpaper. We designed His n Her built-in wardrobes tucked into niches we designed. Te built-ins were made with a slightly antique, furniture feel. Te client’s favorite reading chair was reupholstered in a flanneled performance fabric, and layers of light textures completed the airy feel.”

Bathroom Reno
“The clients asked us to update their guest bath, to give it a fresh feel, while honoring their love of antiques. We designed the space with a fresh take on classic fixtures and finishes, including a modern hexagon mosaic tile for the floor. We repurposed one of the client’s antique chests as a vanity, and topped it with quartz and a vessel sink to protect the wood. The client’s love of blue played into our selection of the wall color, which offered a beautiful contrast to the handmade-look subway tile. We love how the warmth of the wood tones plays off the otherwise crisp palette!” – Alison Giese.

Trim Color: Pure White by Sherwin Williams.
Vessel sink: Rectangular vessel sink, Wayfair.
Mirror: 30” Round Metal Framed Mirror by Rejuvenation.

Bedroom & Bathroom Reno
Recently renovated by Alison Giese of Alison Giese Interiors (make sure to follow her on Instagram!), this bedroom and bathroom renovation will certainly inspire you. Here, the designer share more details: “The clients approached us to help them make sense of their master bedroom, that presented with an asymmetrical ceiling, many dark colors on the wall, carpet, and furniture. We aimed to create light and symmetry, and proposed taking advantage of the sloped ceiling by creating an elegant, tented effect with a subtly-striped wallpaper. We designed His n Her built-in wardrobes tucked into niches we designed. Te built-ins were made with a slightly antique, furniture feel. Te client’s favorite reading chair was reupholstered in a flanneled performance fabric, and layers of light textures completed the airy feel.”
