The funny thing about the semi-popularised interpretation that Princess Peach actually stages her kidnappings by Bowser in order to spend time with him and keep Mario on a string are interesting because it's meant to remix the princess-kidnapping scenario by giving the princess some motivation in the matter. It also appeals to the monster romance demographic where the princess and the monster getting it on has titillating potential.

But what I particularly like is that it adds to the stageplay sense of Mario (which is not narrative motivated) but also explains why they play tennis and other miscellaneous sports, boardgames, gokarting and other profitable spinoffs activities without too much fuss. The very G-rated version of it where Peach likes having tea parties with Bowser is very cute to me. I also never properly finished Super Mario Sunshine as a kid so always prevailed under the assumption that Peach was really Bowser Jr.'s mama. Yeah.
