As someone who worked for a time for a girlscout council and has been a girlscout for literally.my entire life (I was a daisy, went all the way up to my gold award and even got scholarship money for it) i know how great girl scouts can be. But I also know that 75% of the money goes to keeping the lights on at counsel. girl scouts make about 40-70 cents per box depending on where they are. . It's great to buy cookies. Cookie season teaches girls money management skills, planning, social interaction and business skills. But it is fundraising and without money, many girls and troops can afford the activities that really make being a girlscout a life changing experience, like it was for me and so many of my friends growing up. . When you buy a box of cookies, donate the same amount to the troop. Donations belong 100% to the girls. .
