The ranking is beneath the cut. Quick note that this ranking is shaky at best and its more of a silly little thing besed around the percentages.

*I'm going to be completely normal about Moonlight Chicken. I'm just going to watch and enjoy it. I'm not going to look deeper. I'm not going to think about..*
Moonlight Chicken's Symbolism and Background Noise
Tumblr media
The series has several Chinese influences and begins on September 10, 2022, which an actual full moon fell on that day. It is the Moon Festival also known as Harvest Moon, Mid-Autumn Moon, or Mooncake. It is meant to be spent with others. In the lunar calendar, it's the mid-point of the year. We know this date from Jim's beer.
Tumblr media
The brand of the beer is Full Moon, and he and Wen drink it throughout the first episode.
Tumblr media
Jim and Wen discuss what is normally seen in the moon. Jim sees a woman (which there is legend about a woman and the moon, but it's too much for this space), but Wen states it's a rabbit. A rabbit normally represents the full moon because both symbolize longevity, peace, and prosperity.
Tumblr media
That's why mooncakes are given during this time. They represent well wishes to the receiver and those shared with a long peaceful and prosperous life.
Tumblr media
Ginger, which Wen shared with Jim, also symbolizes longevity as well as passion and strength.
Tumblr media
Jim's green truck's license plate states frog in Thai. Frogs are a symbol of prosperity and good luck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Li Ming, whose name means (bright) dawn, wears an Ohio State Buckeyes Football Shirt. Buckeyes are a type of nut and symbolize good luck (thanks college football for that nugget of info!).
Tumblr media
However, this show is doing well with subtle foreshadowing, so Li Ming might run into some bad luck with driving (Heart around) without a license.
Tumblr media
We get some foreshadowing with the DVD Wen picks up at Jim's. This movie is about two lovers who meet in Hong Kong after relocating there from other parts of China. Their lives take them on separate paths, only for them to reunite ten years later in America. The ending shows that they actually sat back-to-back on the train ride into Hong Kong over a decade ago. Aka, they were fated lovers.
Tumblr media
Jim has an Idiot's Guide to Starting a Home-Based Business and Reader's Digest collection of books - Dick Francis' Comeback (about a man who gets entangled with a stranger on his route to his new job), Frederick Forsyth's The Deceiver (about a British agent who is set to retire, but one of the main plots is an affair), and Alexandria Ripley's Scarlett (which continues the story of Scarlett and Rhett from Gone with the Wind, who are estranged, but at the end, reunite). *Also, the condom package is amazing. The C of "condom" is actually the condom. I just think it's neat!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wen has Eric Hall's Monster (which is about famous sport agent Eric Hall who was known for being a money monster). This is likely to be Alan's book because the apartment is filled with art, which is due to Wen being an art director. He was also drinking because of his job but didn't state anything specific about the reason.
Tumblr media
Wen and Alan's apartment is more modern, while Jim's is more traditional.
Tumblr media
When Jim and Wen met at the restaurant, it is Saturday going into Sunday. In Thailand, Sunday's color is red, and its unlucky color is blue. However, In China, red represents good luck, and blue represents longevity. We see these colors often around Jim and Wen (scroll back up).
Tumblr media
Jim was shown mostly in or highlighted by red the first episode with Wen in or highlighted by blue.
Tumblr media
Even Jim's aprons are red. They say Hungry? with a little chicken peaking out of the pockets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also see the blues and reds around Heart and Li Ming. *peep the elephant tusks which are encasing the family and symbolize power*
Tumblr media
The bottle Heart drops is Snake Bite Whiskey, and a snakebite shot simply consists of whiskey and lime juice aka it hurts like an actual snakebite.
Tumblr media
Modern Thai Sign Language was influenced by American Sign Language (which was greatly influenced by French Sign Language). It seems as if Heart is telling Li Ming his face scared him, but I'm unsure of the last sign since that is not the ASL sign for surprise, scared, or angry. The second portion seems to consist of Heart saying YOUR MISTAKE, but once again, the second sign is different than ASL's mistake because of the breadth of the movement. *I love that this wasn't captioned because it allows the audience to feel Li Ming's confusion and Heart's frustration.
Tumblr media
We end the episode back at night with another shot of the moon. As others have pointed out, the colors at night are more crisp and vibrant compared to the day.
Tumblr media
But based on Li Ming's name, and the symbols, I think Moonlight Chicken is attempting a similar theme as Big Dragon - The Moon and the Sun have to meet at Dawn. These lovers won't work in their current situations. They have to compromise and find balance, which is why they met in the middle of the year. They have to meet in the in-between.

Back at it with mini pig shenanigans with creator! Reader, Ga Ming is in charge of babysitting duty cuz u know bro wants learn more about parental figure/older sibling creator! Reader and bc the reader trusts him. So imagine Ga Ming trying to teach the pig tricks and pranks. Only for the pig to use those pranks on the men that it hates on (fatui vs pig) and then Ga Ming recording and pulls the thumbs up “you’re doing great sweetie” everytime the pig does something so foul to the fatui 😭
STOPP :((( that's so adorable, and if you look closely you can see reader smiling so lovingly and proudly at ga ming and your pig, ignoring the screeches and screams coming from the ginger.

Oh my EFF, where DO I START. Moonlight Chicken, episode 7 thoughts and impressions. But first, a question for the family:
Did any of you notice the filming style slightly change during the condo/living room scene with Jim and Wen (after Jim put on the chicken shirt), and the second scene with Jam and Li Ming, when they’re eating the ginger stir-fry? In both scenes, I noticed that the camera pans were a bit more fast/jerky between characters, and that Jim and Jam (#jimjam) were filmed from the chest up. I wish I knew more about cinematography, but it seemed to me that the other shots throughout the show were wider and taller. I don’t know if this means anything to anyone, but if it does, I would love to hear thoughts on it. I feel like the shooting style gave those scenes some kind of different old-school flavor.
1) JUST GAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH WHY IS THIS SHOW SO GOOD. Sorry for the yelling, but now I know, I KNOW, full-bodied, there is no way one post is enough for each of these episodes, so just expect a whole freaking unspooling over the weekend. ANYWAY. I’ll try to organize the quick thoughts first, then the deep thoughts.
2) Just get First and Khao together again already! They can’t help their chemistry to be ridiculously great. AND HOW GOOD IS FIRST. HOW GOOD IS HE. Just knowing when to fume just slightly, when to pull back for the sake of a scene. AND HOW GOOD IS KHAOTUNG. God. His crying! It took me OUT. Tears over here, streaming tears.
3) Speaking of hearts aching, I cried not only during the funeral scene because of Khao, but because I love this now-repeating motif that Aof uses of bringing a song that’s sung in the show as music for the background of the show, à la Bad Buddy. To think of every step of art to weave into a drama to keep you fully connected -- it’s really beautiful to me.
4) Mark/Leng with his UCLA jacket, what up, Cali, cute cute. (By the way, I’m missing View/Praew. She was incredible in 10 Years Ticket, and I think she could have lent her brilliance to MC. I’m going to add The Shipper to my list for First/Ohm/View.)
5) The continued motif of showing the cast participating in time-honored spiritual rituals. As sad as it sounds, I love funeral scenes and the way a temple brings together a community. Even Wen working at the temple -- it’s very real (at least at the Indian/Asian funerals I saw as a kid) to basically have a lot of the funeral feel like a community get-together.
6) Heart joining Li Ming to hand out drinks at the temple just messed me up. It messed me up good. When the young adults automatically help out at events without being told by their parents. It means a lot in Asian societies.
7) Deeper thoughts. @wen-kexing-apologist hit on this in their BEAUTIFUL POST about the show being centered on parent-child relationships. There’s a lot here in this episode, I may not get to it all.
Here’s how I’d break it down (and this post by @justafriend-ql covers so much so well):
a) Jam comes back after years of not seeing Li Ming b) Li Ming is OBLIGATED, by UNSPOKEN CULTURAL RULES, to continue to respect her as a parent c) Li Ming, clearly, wants fucking none of it d) Li Ming/Fourth EMANATES distaste for what he’s dealing with  e) Li Ming STILL has to control himself around his mom who moved him aside to live her life f) He has to ALSO DEAL with his uncle, who (yes, hypocritically) (but also hypothetically) asks him why he’s gay g) So Li Ming has to also deal with his uncle’s internalized homophobia and old-fashioned views on gays in society, which may very well arise in part from his upbringing in rural Isaan h) Jim has to also deal with his sister’s guilt over not having been a mom, and her trying to sort of half-heartedly show up (until the last scene with them, which I think was meant as a symbol that there might be healing happening among the three), and i) Jim beginning to see Li Ming for the adult that he is becoming.
@justafriend-ql covered in their two posts about Li Ming the sheer SIMMERING, the shimmering ANGER that Fourth portrayed, and I felt @wen-kexing-apologist’s  pain in my bones when I watched those scenes.
So much of what I am loving about Aof’s work as I enjoy my ride through his oeuvre is this family dissection -- the microscopic examination of the painful aftereffects of holistic filial piety (COUGH Bad Buddy) -- and I can never say enough how important his family art work is to Asian audiences. When I see these scenes of young adults holding themselves back with every iota of their energy to not JUMP KICK their parents when they’re acting stupid -- man, I feel that so hard.
Jam coming back and asking for Li Ming is just lame, and we all know it, and Li Ming knows it. And yet, he is BOUND by CULTURAL PRACTICE -- cultural rules that even JIM REFERENCES -- to need to hold back and respect his mother, because that’s what Thai cultural boundaries demand. So I agree with @justafriend-ql that what Fourth radiated was beyond brilliant. As a viewer, I really want to see Li Ming’s gates open and to see him rage, because my inner child wants to rage right along with him.
But that night scene with Jim and Li Ming, man.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think this bit of this scene is what ended up helping Jim to relax, and to see Li Ming as an adult.
I am loving how Jim is written. The constant, CONSTANT pull between old values and new. This scene so beautifully depicted Jim in that balancing struggle.
Li Ming is just pulling Jim along to the light of the future, as children/young adults do. Li Ming NEEDS his uncle to see HIMSELF (Jim) in Li Ming. And I think that’s what’s happening, in part, in this scene. Jim sees that Li Ming CAN understand how complicated the world is around him. Jim SEES that Li Ming is a CRITICAL THINKER.
Jim has been a solo parent for so long. He’s worried about his kid. They’re poor. His kid’s gay. Jim’s worried about his kid being poor and gay. Jim expresses it, at first, in an old-fashioned, shouting, angry way. Jim accidentally outs Li Ming to Jam.
And then. The two guys -- the guys -- sit with each other, rest and wash in the process of mourning an important member in the community. Jim tries to hear Li Ming at Li Ming’s level. And Jim finds that he can hear.
And maybe, even, Jim is beginning to learn that he can transcend those old-fashioned values -- those UNSPOKEN CULTURAL RULES that still bind much of Li Ming’s behavior towards his mother -- to be a model for Li Ming, AND TO HIMSELF, to live a hopefully more fulfilling life. (I think that might be what’s happening, in part, with the cancellation of the diner’s lease at the end of the episode -- but the preview for the finale has me wondering if I’m right.)
8) I don’t know how much I have left, but I took these screenshots to also talk about Jim’s internalized homophobia. I think I’ve covered it already in my Li Ming analysis, but come AWN, just look at this SASS BUCKET OVER HERE:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I took these to confirm that Jim was “just being a dad” (ugh) in the moment of him yelling at Li Ming, but I think Jim redeemed himself with that night chat with Li Ming. So I’m just gonna leave these screenshots here BECAUSE COULD WEN/MIX BE ANY MORE SASSY?
I’m already missing these guys. I need Our Skyy 2 REALLY SOON.
I’m gonna need a lot of sleep tonight to manage tomorrow.

"There's something you need to know" with Zutara please
Hello there! Thanks for the prompt!
I do hope your ready to brush your teeth after this tooth-rotting fluff.
There's something you need to know.
With the first touch of Agni's rays on the horizon, Zuko felt himself stirring. Hoping to enjoy just a few minutes of cuddling before the chaos of the day took over, Zuko reached for the other side of the bed, frowning when he found it empty. He sat up, rubbing his eyes, and looked for Katara.
"Darling?" He called out, bleary eyes scanning the room for his wife. He heard a muffled call from the bathroom. Frowning, he quickly made his way over, gently knocking on the door.
"Is everything okay?"
"Yeah- I'm fine."
She didn't sound fine. She sounded like she was sick, voice feeble and weary, though he was unsure how much of that had to do with her being awake with the sun.
"Are you sure? Can I come in?"
The moment of silence that followed seemed to stretch into a lifetime. At last she said, "Okay."
She didn't look fine, either. Her hair was damp from sweat, clinging to her scalp in odd places. She was curled up around the basin, one cheek pressed to the cool floor.
"Katara-" he rushed to her side, "-you're sick."
"Yes," she said. "But it's okay."
"No, it's not. I'll call for the physician. And maybe some ginger to settle your stomach?"
Katara laughed and closed her eyes even as her hand sought his. "There's something you need to know."
"Al-Alright." A million terrible things of what possibly was wrong flashed through is mind. "What is it?"
"I didn't want to tell you this way, but you're such a damn early riser, you caught me." She cracked open one eye, a smile tugging at her lips. "If this is anything to go by, our child will be an early riser, too."
"Our- child?"
She squeezed his hand. "I'm pregnant."
Zuko didn't realize he was crying until she wiped away a tear. "We're going to be parents," he whispered. She nodded, scooting closer to him.
"I love you." He kissed her damp forehead and shifted so she was laying in his lap, settling on the floor. "I love you so much. Whatever I can do- however I can make this better for you, I will."
"I know. Just you being here helps." She took his hand and gently placed it over her stomach. He felt his fingers tremble.
"There's a baby in there," he said, awestruck.
"Our baby," she reminded him.
"Our baby," he repeated.
That was how their attendants found them, an hour later, still curled up on the bathroom floor. Lin, having recognized Katara's symptoms a week ago, pulled Ming away, deciding they could come back in a half an hour.
After all, it wasn't every day the Fire Lord found out he was going to be a father.

Mimi's Mini Plot Bunnies
Tumblr media
Name: Eden Green
Title: Towards the Sun
Fandom: The Hunger Games
Faceclaim: Ming-Na Wen
Love Interest: Haymitch Abernathy
Pinterest Board: Link
Summary: Growing up in District 8 Eden knows nothing except that you worked to survive and after you turned 12…hope your name never gets called in The Hunger Games. Eden’s hope unfortunately shattered when she was 15 and her name was called for the 51st Hunger Games. She survived but she never understood why and thought that struggled with that knowledge.
During her victory tour, she ended up meeting District 12th victor and last year’s winner, Haymitch Abernathy. As they got to know each other more, Eden felt like she could relate to one another and they got close…too close and after a night of passion Eden woke up and got her heart shattered by Haymitch who said he wanted nothing to do with her, it was just all just for a bit of fun. He left and went back to his District while she went back to hers, trying to pick up the already shattered pieces of herself.
Years later Eden was now a cold, hard-shell of a person that never lets anyone in. Including the kids she’s forced to mentor and watch die year after year. Now at the 74th Hunger Games, Eden thought it would be like any other year, of couse it was the usual a boy tribute and a girl to die for Eden to mentor. But, this girl tribute,Rosette Clearhill, reminds Eden a lot on how she used to be before the Hunger Games and Eden felt the need to prepare her for what she might have to do to survive.
However, nothing could prepare Eden for what Rose and District 12s Tributes did at the end of The Hunger Games would cause for Eden and the rest of Panem.

For the fic ask, 10. If unpublished, can you show a sneak peek of what you've written?
You pick the fandom.
Thanks! And I'm much relieved to find that I actually DO have something written that I haven't posted yet. My writing process over the last few months has been by and large to mull over it in my head and then fling some words at a document before posting on a chapter-by-chapter basis, so I haven't got a lot of writing that is writing right now. BUT here's something from my American Gods high school AU that got shoved aside in January by other ideas. So, here's probably-the-opening of chapter 3 of 'American Kids':
“Yo! McCabe!” Tech waved at her from his electric unicycle, and hopped off, tucking it under one arm.
“So, what the fuck was that all about earlier?”
Tech stuck his hands in the pockets of his ludicrous pants, and grinned. He looked a little sheepish. “Yeahhhh well, it was worth a try - so, here’s the thing. It’s Sweeney’s birthday on Friday, right? It’s his eighteenth birthday - I know, he’s fucking ancient. Crazy, huh? Anyway, turns out I’m kinda double booked.”
“And - ?”
Tech stared at her a moment, groaned, and leaned in confidentially and way too close. “I’m literally the guy’s only friend.” The gap-toothed little weirdo straightened up and made a face that she would describe as expressive, if she was feeling generous.
Laura, however, was not feeling particularly generous right then. She recalled the message she’d seen about ‘Friday being a no-go’, and with it the image of an extremely crushed Ginger Minge celebrating his legal adulthood as a Billy-No-Mates sophomore. She knew what was being asked of her.
