Part 9: TearRing Saga Series Timeline
Because the events of Champions of Yutona and Berwick Saga take place in the same universe, you may wonder what the timeline looks like... so I’ve made a rudimentary one.
The basic rules are:
[Lieberia Year] = [Lazberian Year RAC] + 1235
[Lazberian Year RAC] = [Lazberian Year VAC] + 26 years, 10 months, 13 days
(I ignored VAC dates for this timeline to keep things simple.)
Lieberia, abt. -675: Miradona and Morse come to Lieberia.
Lieberia, abt. -175: Settlers from Jugud come to Lieberia and found the Republic of Reeve.
Lieberia, abt. -69: Kalbazan destroys the Republic of Reeve and creates the Zoa Empire.
Lieberia, 31-34: Carluon and Yutona wage war against Kalbazan and overthrow the Zoa Empire, replacing it with the Holy Empire of Lieberant. Loyal Zoans fleeing Carluon’s reconquest sail into the open oceans searching for asylum.
Lieberia, 35 = Lazberia, abt. -1200 RAC: The fleeing Zoans arrive on a continent to the north called Lazberia. There, they quickly dominate the natives and found the Lazberian Empire.
Lieberia, after 74: Following Carluon’s death, Lieberant breaks apart into the four kingdoms: Reeve, Salia, Canaan, and Leda.
Lieberia, abt. 135 = Lazberia, abt. -1100 RAC: The Lazberian Empire assimilates the entire Morre Region into itself.
Lieberia, 785: Princess Tita of Leda becomes Kranion, destroys Leda, and deals great damage to Salia.
Lieberia, 803: The Cult of Gerxel invades Leda, and people across Lieberia rise up to defend Leda in the Ledan Crusade.
Lieberia, 825-826: Champions of Yutona takes place.
Lieberia, abt. 1035 = Lazberia, abt.  -200 RAC: The Lazberian Empire’s capital, Heliki, sinks into the Sea of Berre during a devastating earthquake.
Lieberia, 1236 = Lazberia, 1 RAC: Remnants of the Old Empire help found the Raze Empire.
Lieberia, 1257-1262 = Lazberia, 22-27 RAC: Aramgraz leads the Western Exodus and founds the Eltana Republic, which becomes the Kingdom of Veria 35 years later.
Lieberia, abt. 1424 = Lazberia, abt. 189 RAC: The Berwick League is founded on Berwick Isle.
Lieberia, 1862 = Lazberia, 627 RAC: Harmel VII of Veria is assassinated, and the Berwick Civil War begins, which lasts until 633 RAC.
Lieberia, 1866 = Lazberia, 631 RAC: Apostle Silpha is assassinated, beginning another bloody war between Veria and Raze.
Lieberia, 1880-1882 = Lazberia, 645-647 RAC: Berwick Saga takes place.
Lieberia, 1893 = Lazberia, 658 RAC: Professor Derrick Almuth writes his magnum opus, Lazberia Chronicle.
Therefore, by doing a little math, we can see that Reese’s arrival in Narvia (the start of Berwick Saga) is a whopping 1055 years after Runan’s arrival in Wellt (the start of Champions of Yutona).
If all of this is a little hard to visualize, here’s a rudimentary timeline I made that inspired this post:

Cantor shares the name with the Shaman class in several other games n Japan, while Arcanists Japanese name is virtually identical to Sorcerer. As we see non sacrificed people in those classes, its likely the same applies to Witch. Even in Echoes, we see Zofia, random bandits, & mercs use Arcanists, Cantors & witches. So its likely some specific power comes from being sacrificed, but not the class a whole.
Kaga's Tearring Saga, once a Fire Emblem for the 64DD, later using white out on the most blatant copyright but leaving stuff like Anna's nameless cameos, when it came to PS1 had normal witches. That is a witch who was a normal person part of the Zoa people, most members of the Gerxel cult(evil, but not 100% Grimleal evil). One, Sierra/Sherra was a playable character, who later joined you. A Arcanist boss was a sacrificed person with blue skin/pointed ears/inhuman speech, Generics looked normal.
tbh im liking Kaga’s version of “Witches-Don’t-Have-To-Be-Sacrificed-Women-With-No-Souls” witches, bc this means that Sonya’s ending doesn’t have to be as terrible as what is implied lol. but this interesting!! i’d totally forgotten about the Zofian Arcanists and Cantors and the like

From what I've played of TRS, Kaga does try to humanize the Gerxel cult a bit, something the Grimleal at no point ever received.
That’s good.

Witches in Tearring Saga
ManaketeAnon:
So witches showed up in Tearring Saga by the creator of the first five(or six) games in the Fire Emblem Franchise. Tearring Saga as mentioned was a Fire Emblem in all but name as a result of originating as a Fire Emblem for the 64.
Tearring Saga was heavily influenced by Fire Emblem: Gaiden and virtually all classes from that game reappeared.
Witches appeared as a class almost identical to their Gaiden incarnation. Just like the the original incarnation, they innately had the ability to warp to different spaces. However under the new magic system introduced in FE4, Witches couldn’t use Light magic or Staves. Instead they used Dark Magic, as well as Fire, Thunder, and Wind tomes. This means Marla or Hesta wouldn’t be able to use Aura(always a Light spell in lore) if they existed in game with Light magic.
All named witches in the game were from the Zoa tribe of people and many members were part of the Zoan cult of Gerxel the Shadow Dragon. Fellow Gaiden classes Arcanists/Sorcerors(first pic above) and Cantor(second pic above) were also part of the cult with witches, other dark magic classes like Dark Mage & Dark Bishop, along with some new classes like Dark Knight, not to be confused with the Awakening class which is a renamed Mage Knight.
The Zoa tribe were the original natives of the continent who had ben displaced and persecuted by the settlers from the continent of Lieve many years ago in the past. This resulted in the Zoans resulting with responding by creating an empire under Gerxel, who was once a member of the Zoa Tribe(long story..).
After the empire’s fall, all of the Zoans would continue to be persecuted by most people, sometimes even rounded up, then burnt in witch hunts regardless of whether or not their ancestors were members of the empire. This would foster their hatred, resulting in the empire rising again with the promise of revenge.
While a few was altered like the long lost member of Duma Faithful(joking), most Witches, Arcanists, and Cantors were just using the dark magic the Zoa had learned to harness.
Now onto the witch, if one of the playable characters, Shigen is defeated in a certain map, a Witch(whose presence was hinted earlier) will warp in and rescue him.
Upon the Lord reuniting with Shigen, Shigen will introduce the witch as her friend, Sherra(sometimes translated Sierra). She will join the protagonist’s army at Shigen’s request. Sierra says Shigen saved her life in past and she was just repaying. This was one of two ways to recruit Sherra and the earliest way to get the character.
Their past is later revealed in optional conversations. To make a fairly long story, Sherra was a member of the Zoa  in the past. Sherra’s parents and sibling were burnt at stake.
A 15 year old Shigen, a Fellow Zoan, rescued Sherra from this fate. They later joined the Gerxel cult, however Shigen eventually felt their vengefulness was going too far and they weren’t bettering anything for the Zoa people, fleeing the cult. He urged Sherra to join, but she refused and denounced him.
Later Sherra came to regret her decision to not join her friend, realizing Shigen was right about the leader not being interested in helping the Zoans.
While not directly stated, there are several strong indications of a romantic interest between Sherra and Shigen. Here’s a relevant link to a Japanese fan art.
In gameplay, Sherra was a very interesting unit. Her stat growths and base stats were very average, yet she had very useful skills being the sole owner of the ReWarp skill, a strong support with Shigen(a powerful unit), and was the only character able to use dark tomes.
Dark tomes in the game were indeed very powerful. Many enemy  spells from Gaiden like Death, Mire, and Upheaval(Earthquake in Japan) were dark tomes in Tearring Saga.
Hope that info was helpful and that I didn’t make the submission too long.

I like how when Walhart's campaign to commit religious genocide on the Grimleal causes destruction, the Grimleal still get all the blame from the characters and the writers.
Yeah nuance not a lot of when it comes to the Grimleal. Loptyrians a bit more. Gerxel Church, a lot more.

I haven’t talked about this but something I noticed. All of Duma’s priests have blue skin and in the case of Jedah/Judah having pointy ears. In Tear Ring Saga, all of the priests in the Church of Gerxel also have blue skin and in the case of Nefka also having pointed ears.  Any theories about this anyone?

From my gaiden experience, they are dead dragons, from any tribe that have been reanimated
Still brings up the question why they aren't Dark Dragons. The only explanation I can provide is Necrodragons are dragons that have their body reanimated but lose most of their power. Whereas a Dark Dragon is a reanimated dragon that retains its full intelligence and gains power even greater than its original form as in the case of Medeus (and to a lesser extent Gerxel from Tear Ring Saga).
