the one thing I'll always love about mormon masculinity is that we will not be having any of that "haha I hate my wife" shit. the male general authorities set the example every single conference of saying "I love my wife, she's the best person I know, I'm the most lucky man who ever lived, every time we disagree I'm usually wrong because she's wiser and I've learned so much from her," etc. oaks was like "I'm releasing these men. give them and their wives a vote of thanks." the message to every man is to celebrate and appreciate the women he knows, not put them down.

The kayak story "He didn't say to me, you wouldn't be in this situation if you were more physically fit." Reminds me of those who react to a member needing help with remarks like "are you praying enough?" "Are you watching porn?" "What do you need to repent for?"
Passing misinformed judgment and assuming that the other person is struggling because they're not doing enough, or have done something wrong to deserve it.
Hopefully those who needed to hear it have taken that message to heart.

“Good members who for some reason have found a way away from the church” is probably the most respectful way I’ve ever heard that worded in a conference talk.
People who leave the church are good people. They have reasons for leaving the church. Please be kind to them.

oh this is so beautiful. "some people feel happiest without religion, and I respect these feelings. God has filled this earth with delightful things so that all his children may have as much happiness as possible. BUT there could be something more by following Jesus Christ. try it out" it's so lovely and respectful I love him

I think I understood the line about not criticizing the doctrine and culture online differently than some others.
I don't consider bigotry part of our culture or doctrine. I don't consider many of our policies part of our doctrine.
I don't consider problems, abuse, or shady activities part of our culture.
I didn't hear it as criticism for the sake of betterment. To that end those "criticisms" ARE us keeping to our integrity and promoting God in our actions.
Rather I feel it was in regards to criticisms in the form of mockery and tearing down from a place of ill intent and nastiness.
That message wasn't for us.
