tyler calls mooch sunshine. it’s very sweet. when they get back together after their second breakup, mooch almost cries hearing him call her sunshine again. it’s like music to her ears.

jack takes mooch with him to get haircuts because he trusts her judgement and she’s not afraid to said “that’s ugly” to his face

when luke is hanging out at umich before he has to go to jersey and mooch is in ohio, mooch always calls him and then tyler always steals the phone which pisses luke off

before i dive into this, some notes: (1) this actually isn't something i would write because i do not feel like i have a read on one of the main characters or the vibes of the 2013-2022 florida panthers. (2) i'm so sorry if you personally aren't into this. (3) it got away from me so much of it is under a cut

anyway here is the story: it's september of 2022 in fort lauderdale, florida. florida panthers summer blockbuster acquisition matthew tkachuk is happy, and thriving, and ready to succeed in his new home, where he'll wear shorts and loafer mules 365 days a year. he has a great house that cost him basically his whole signing bonus and enough loved ones eager to visit that he'll never have to be banging around the giant house alone. he already has a sunburn.

there's only one small, small issue: he's 100% heartbroken.

(now for our purposes i don't think leon is the one who broke his heart. i think either johnny -- tragic unrequited love that johnny finally shut down? complicated relationship johnny broke off to flee to ohio? -- or just some guy he was dating who dumps him for some devastating reason that matthew handles with no grace at all internally and with perfect poise externally)

anyway, he's here now. new team. fresh start. he's going to make new friends and fill his life with rich new relationships and not miss what he used to have at all. one of those rich new relationships is going to be with his teammate and captain and definitely soon to be friend sasha barkov. he always wants to make friends but he's especially determined about this one.

what he doesn't know is that sasha is also heartbroken. his boyfriend? fwb? undefined something? jonny huby was up and traded with no warning and also dumped him. (see this is where i don't know enough about the vibes of the 2013-2022 florida panthers)

but sasha is friendly, and he clearly likes matthew, even if he's quiet and, matthew thinks, careful with his heart. but matthew's easy to like, you know? he's upbeat and thoughtful and generous and wants the people he's with to know he cares about them.

they get to know each other slowly, carefully, but still ... with maybe too much intensity. they do both have these major holes in their lives that they're looking for something to fill. late nights sharing a drink or a meal after the game that turn into really late nights, that sometimes turn into very early mornings. the season isn't going great, and they talk about that, but they also talk about their lives and their families and matthew's old team and what they think their current team could be, if they could get everyone healthy at the same time.

slowly, they start to spill about their past relationships, too. the nights don't get shorter. sometimes they crash at each other's places, just because it's easier. matthew likes not clattering around a big house by himself in the morning, likes the noise of sasha cursing under his breath at the fancy espresso machine taryn basically ordered him to buy and the soft murmur of the tv from the other room. it's what he wanted when he bought this big stupid house, to have someone (or many someones, a whole family) to fill it up with.

matthew is the main character of all star weekend, and he feels sasha watching him, and it feels like that has its own weight. every time he makes sasha laugh it feels heavier and more important and harder to think about too much. wanting things is how he got his heart broken in the first place. it's easier if he doesn't.

and then, of course, things start to go well and that makes it even more impossible to look directly at. he can't fuck this up now. can't rock the boat. but the thing between them, big and scary and intense and yet still easy, it's always easy, it felt like slotting into a place he was always meant to be from the beginning -- that thing, that doesn't go away.

matthew doesn't breathe a word of it until they finally lose. (conference final? cup final? is this concept i'm spinning on tumblr gonna get jossed in a month?) sasha comes over, maybe a day or two later, and they drink beers outside and nearly get caught by a thunderstorm and matthew kisses him while the rain beats against the windows and sasha doesn't sleep in the guest room that night

when brittany was younger she was made fun of a lot for being "a loser" and that feeling of people teasing her and ruining what little confidence she had hurt, a lot, and because she no longer wanted to be seen as a target she decided to take on the typical "dumb blonde" persona that she had seen in movies and used it to her advantage slowly gaining popularity and becoming a completely new person. she's been taking on this persona for so long that she forgot just how smart she used to be, sometimes the old her slips through but most people just brush it off and don't even pay attention, it still hurts hearing people say she's stupid all the time but that's better than being labeled a loser in her eyes, the people who really care about her know just how smart she can be when she tries.

she has a huge heart, it's usually overshadowed by her lack of brains as some people would say but if you really pay attention you'll notice her doing things that prove just how sweet she can be, like helping other people on the cheerios feel better when coach sylvester makes them cry, helping new students find their way around campus, they end up more confused than they were before but at least she's trying, always giving her friends a shoulder to lean on, brittany's sweetness comes in many ways sometimes it's even hidden behind an off handed comment.

brittany can play the guitar, her dad used to play when she was little and would sit her on his lap and teach her how to strum the cords, it was something she picked up on fairly quick and soon enough she could play all on her own. playing guitar was like second nature to her, just like dancing and cheering.

Puck believes he was dealt a pretty shitty deck of cards in life. His dad was AWOL most of his childhood until he basically decided to disappear when Puck was twelve. Puck always wondered if he had something to do with that, always wanting to impress his father. He always put his father up on a pedestal, though now he realizes that maybe he shouldn’t have. It’s no surprise that he acts exactly like his dad nowadays. After his dad left, Puck wanted to step up and become the “man of the house” for his mom and little sister.

With nothing but a net and a dream, Puck started his own pool cleaning business. His pool cleaning business is pretty successful, he has about five steady customers, all of which he gives the ultimate VIP treatment when he’s on the job. He considers himself an entrepreneur. He has ambitions to one day take his business statewide. He knows with his good looks, he’ll totally get by expanding his business.

He’ll never admit that music gives him joy. He knows it’s cool that he can shred on his guitar but like singing? He knows that’s not cool at all. And he’s only cool. He claims he only joined because boy bands are total chick magnets and not because he actually enjoys it.

He got held back in first grade, which is something that he usually doesn't talk about, but he isn't ashamed of it. He owns it.

Puck went to juvie for a few months when he was fifteen, after illegally taking his mom's car and trying to drive away with an ATM. His mom was complaining about how she didn't have money so he thought he'd do his part.

Jeff didn’t have a bad upbringing. He was the child of two loving parents, who did whatever they could to support him. That wasn’t to say that he made it easy for them though. Jeff was always getting into trouble in school. Whether it be a prank on another student, or the consequential fight that would be a result afterwards. But no matter what, they always went in to bat for him, and always made sure he knew he was loved and supported.

That wasn’t to say that Jeff wasn’t smart, though. Academically, Jeff thrived. He could cram for a test the night before and ace it. But he just wasn’t interested in it. School bored him, and the only thing that could hold his attention was music. Freshman year of high school, Jeff picked up a guitar, and he hasn’t put it down since.

In senior year, Jeff was so sure that music was the path he was supposed to take that he almost chose to for-go college in order to pursue getting signed to a record label. His voice wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t outstanding- and playing guitar could only get him so far. Being a quitter was something that wasn’t going to happen though, so instead he started a band. He’s fine to share the spotlight, so long as he gets it.

His parents pleaded for him to at least give college a try- they didn’t care about whether he attended an Ivy league or not, just that he went. He agreed with their request to keep them off of his back. So with them paying his tuition, he now attends just enough classes to not flunk out- whilst focussing as much time and energy as he can on his band and getting them noticed.

adrian was born into a generational military family and spent his childhood moving from one place to another. the only really constant in his life was his mother and younger brother. they became a tight-nit unit, especially the two brothers.

while his grandfather and father assumed and pushed adrian to follow in their footsteps, he was adamant from a young age to carve his own path. once he graduated high school, he started to study computer science at college.

it was only weeks after he got his bachelor’s degree that his younger brother thomas enlisted. adrian had been so busy with his own life that he hadn’t realised the pressure thomas had been subjected to. while adrian was headstrong and confident in who he was, thomas was more of a follower and once adrian was out of the house, the pressure shifted from one son to another.

adrian enlisted only days after thomas did, hellbent on protecting his brother since he had failed previously. he threw away all his own personal goals and dreams even though no one asked him to. and so his time with the navy started.

at thirty two, irony showed its ugly face when his brother died in combat while adrian had to sit the mission out because of a sprained ankle. how’s that for keeping him safe?

his time in the navy after that is sort of a blur, by then the rest of the team had became family too and abandoning them wasn’t on the list, so he continued to serve. to be honest, he mostly used it as an excuse to be anywhere else but home where guilt and grief waited for him.

at thirty five he left, chose not to reenlist after his active duty commitment came to an end. his mind nor body couldn’t handle it any longer and he knew better than to pretend it did. and then a year later he visited his mother only to see the damn tree on his way back home.

The only headcanon I got is that he divorced his wife Jenna for mutual reasons and has split custody of their daughter Rosie. soooo this is jas!! she is originally from powell ohio but moved to ashford with her ex - fiancé (but more on that later).

jas would class herself as japanese american, although her parents are both from japan. they moved over to america when her mother was pregnant with jas. she can speak japanese fluently.

she’s the oldest of three, she has two younger brothers, who she adores, they are very cute & wholesome family.

SO she’s only been living in ashford for three years, she first came into town with her ex - fiancé, they were childhood sweethearts and they just wanted a fresh start.

everything was going well when they first arrived, they moved into a cute little cottage & he still kept his big job in the city, even though he’d promise jas he’d quit soon.

for her first year of living here she didn’t have a job, she took care of the house etc. she didn’t really enjoy it, but she was happy living with her fiancé.

then one day randomly this guy got up and decided that this whole thing wasn’t for him, turns out he’d been cheating on her with his secterary the whole time.

this left jas’ heartbroken and the pair ended things :(

she had to move out of their cottage as she couldn’t afford to live there by herself, she moved into a smaller apartment and got a job @ violets vintage.

its now been three years since all of that drama happened, jas’ has been living her best life.

it took a little while but she’s now properly over her ex and has recently got back on the dating scene!!
