We have 26 characters in Strive now and I think that's neat

Had to get this out before the new daredevil this week. Course not everyone fit perfectly so I had to get creative :)

Asuka's fundamental misunderstanding of personhood and the value of identity is one of the most fucking compelling things about him when you think about him - he has such poor self-esteem that he doesn't even understand his own identity or value so it makes so much sense that he's constantly fucking up everyone around him when it comes to their identity and bodily autonomy. He mentions at one point that he never felt in control of his life and never really made his own decisions - he didn't even want to become a scientist but felt pushed into it. He doesn't understand the emotions of others, he cares only about "reality" because that's what his whole life has been - reality, logic, the "correct" answer. So when Aria gets sick, he cryofreezes her. When she says she doesn't want to miss out on time with Frederick, he makes him immortal. When the Gears are planned to he used as weapons, he figures "Oh I'll make Aria into a command gear - won't matter if she gets to be woth Frederick, right?" basically RIGHT after a drama CD shows us that she values her own person immensely and who she is - she says that to Frederick. Then, when he tries to bring her back by creating the Jack-O Valentine unit, he's likely kind of perplexed by the fact that she's developed her own personality! Hell, he's probably baffled at the fact that Frederick seems to treat her like Jack-O and not Aria, but fuck me man, Frederick probably does that because he fucking remembers what Aria taught him about identity!! And after! Al of this! Asuka! Goes to the moon! And CLONES HIMSELF TO TRY AND UNDERSTAND IDENTITY AND WHO HE IS!!! HE FIGHTS BATTLE DATA OF ALL THESE PEOPLE TO TRY AND SEE IF HE CAN UNDERSTAND WHY EVERYTHING THAT MATTERS TO THEM MATTERS SO MUCH TO THEM! I am so sick. Do you get it? This man is so twisted but he isn't EVIL! He's just a little fucked up, and I think that all this is why he loves Frederick so much - this is the man who is everything he wants to be. He's sure of himself: he's the "find a way or make one" guy! Asuka spends so much time trying to quantify and understand the one thing that can't be measured with his understanding of "reality:" Humanity and love and emotions. BUT HE'S TRYING SO FUCKING HARD TO LEARN. You gotta see my vision you gotta see it I feel so fucking bad for this man.

God nobody gets it less than people who think they should've brought back Aria at the end of strive, like, that would literally undermine the ENTIRETY of Sol, Asuka and Arias story.

The whole point is that Aria was happy, all she wanted was for Frederik and Asuka to be able to let her go, and find new people to fill their lives with; and what do they do instead? Frederik completely isolates himself from human relationships and Asuka keeps trying to bring her back as increasingly fucked up magic homunculi, this is the Literal polar opposite of moving on and letting go!!!

The conclusion of their arc is finally, after hundreds of years, growing up and learning how to truly respect Aria and her wishes for the first time, by letting it be.

So yeah no it's so dumb that people want Daisuke to be a hack and Kingdom Hearts 3 it up instead.

Your feelings remind me of Jack-O so much. Being made only for the purpose to die so someone else people actually want can come back, feeling like there's genuinely no point to you existing and your failing those around you the longer you continue to do so. When Sol says "Have I ever called you Aria?" just snipe me through the skull next time Daisuke, don't drag me like this ;_;

YES YES YES Dude Jack-O Valentine is so fucking cool. What a fucking character arc and story and she's yet another one of those Guilty Gear moments where you play against her like "What's with this silly goofy lady?" and you read anything or watch Xrd/Strive story and have to lie down for a while.

The fucking scenes with her and Sol in Strive make me so insane. There's the one you mentioned here (Sol showing genuine emotion I am collapsing and sobbing) and then the part on the highway where Jack-O is just like "Frederick...?" Sol: "Yeah?" Jack-O: "...You're smiling." Sol: "Hm...." Like I am deceased. ALSO THE WAY SOL IS LIKE "Have I ever called you Aria?" AND JACK-O IS ONE OF THE FEW PEOPLE WHO CALLS HIM FREDERICK??? POETIC CINEMA!!!

Jack-O is definitely one of the many examples of characters in this series feeling doomed by the narrative in some way and trying to come to grips with their existence or finding a way to live that won't make them miserable. Everyone finds a way to do it through many different means! (someone in the tags of an old post said a big part of it is relationships in Guilty Gear and I think that's a really good one). For Jack-O it's her connection to Sol - not because she's a unit made to house bits of Aria, but because she and Sol forge a new and separate relationship based on who she is as Jack-O. Sol accepts her as a different person and not this echo of his wife and I think it's part of what helps her feel that she can exist hiw she chooses to- she is not doomed to be temporary vessel.

Anyway thanks for this ask I love getting excited and Guilty Gear does it for me so easy - I think part of what makes this series so fantastic is the narrative and the character writing makes them all so profoundly human and relatable; even the characters that explicitly AREN'T human struggle with and posses humanity!! I think anyone can look to any of those characters and see echoes of themselves or other people and feel that it's going to be ok (It will work out!! (haha The Hourglass reference)).
