Demarchelier, Elgort, Lindbergh, Michael Comte, there wasn’t many of the magazines favourite photographers ( and greatest stylists, Anna Dello Russo, Alice Gentilucci and Carlyne, to name a few ) Christy didn’t work with, however it’s her images captured by Ellen Von Unwerth that are some of my favourites. Ellen captured the sassy and naughty side of Christy, her editorials “The Sisters” ( Co-staring Linda ) and “Hot Pants” immediately spring to mind, along with several others. Championed by Meisel, Lindbergh and Paolo Roversi, Audrey was featured heavily in Franca's Vogue throughout the mid to late 90s and early 00's, with guest spots in between. Her elfin like beauty made her a success during this period when designers and editors were lusting after quirky and unconventional beauties ( something Franca always encouraged and nurtured ), making her one of the most recognised from her generation of Supermodels. F R A N C A // F R I D A Y S . Over the coming weeks I'm switching it up and celebrating the many "Supers" who were made, or championed by Franca and her Vogue. The biggest "Muse" and Supermodel championed under Franca's editorial ship would have to be Linda. Scouring almost 30 covers and countless editorials, I remember reading a quote by Franca saying that if Linda was not on the cover or in an editorial, readers would write letters of concern, Linda was Vogue Italia and Vogue Italia was Linda. Having worked with Lindbergh, Demarchelier, Ellen Von Unwerth, and of course Meisel, Linda created some of the magazines most iconic, gorgeous and timeless images, images that have transcended fashions best and worst. The power of Linda, Franca and said photographers is that they created artwork, not always concentrating on fashion, but rather telling a story, and Linda was, and is, the best actress in the modelling world. It goes without saying, too, all this was made possible by Franca's strong team of Fashion Editors. Staring a cast of familiar, and soon to be familiar faces, Steven Meisel captured some of the most beautiful women in the world in a seemingly raw and untouched state ( bringing to mind the great works of the likes of Richard Avedon ). Styled by the great Lori Goldstein, this was a collections story, my favourite kind of story ( remember the collections weren't streamed live nor were they as easily accessible via the net back then, so seeing the new collections was a really exciting moment ), and the Spring 02 collections were some of the best! This was for me everything fashion was during this period, unusual beauties and stark, moody styling, the pre Emo generation if you will. This is what I love about Franca's editorialship, her magazine really tapped into what was happening globally and socially in fashion, portraying the mood in a seemingly realistic way, gritty and relatable.
