all you hear at first are bits of humming, disjointed and otherworldly yet oddly soothing. it's faint but constant when you hear it, at the perfect level to be comforting instead of annoying, and every time it dances through your mind makes a smile tug at your lips. you're not sure what your soulmate thinks of you, since neither of you had attempted to communicate through your thoughts yet, but you're alright with that. really. these things take time, you repeat to yourself, a lot of time- but how much time will it take? you're lying in bed one night, the loneliness weighing on your shoulders and crushing you more than usual, when you hear a familiar humming in your head. without hesitation you reach out with your thoughts, pleading for your soulmate to give you a sign, something apart from the humming, so you could be sure you weren't just imagining things

the humming pauses, before a deep, comforting purr echos in place of it, and you find yourself falling asleep easier than you ever have before

you begin speaking with your soulmate more after that, their thoughts a peculiar mixture of words and chirping, trilling noises. sometimes the words are cluttered and snipped, then other times they can be full sentences, but either way your soulmate makes for lively, if confusing conversation. it's not until you meet a Harbinger in the streets that everything clears, the ginger-haired man's face splitting into a wide grin when you apologize for bumping into him, a familiar voice falling from his lips as he introduces himself as Ajax- not Childe, not Tartaglia, Ajax. but the purring and hums still don't make sense, not for a few months, until the day Ajax shows you Foul Legacy. the Abyssal monster kneels to your height, holding up his hands to show that he means no harm, and when he deems you calm enough he lifts your hand and gently bumps his head against it, letting out a soft purr

your eyes widen as the two voices in your head fall quiet, having finally met your soulmates- Foul Legacy and Ajax
