you will feel like a dumdum at first, but once you get used to it youll realize that telling people what kind of thing you're about to say ahead of time flattens their anxiety a huge amount

ive been starting every question with "question:" for awhile now and i almost never get people reading too much into what i mean anymore

it seems super dumb, but "what are your plans tomorrow?" gets people asking me what i have planned despite me obviously being in the process of figuring that out, whereas "question: what are your plans tomorrow?" gets me a quick rundown of their schedule, followed by "why?"

it also makes it really easy to work tone indicators into your verbal speech. if you're always saying "question: [your question here]?" then no one blinks when you say "genuine question: [question that could read as sarcastic]?"

it also gets you out of your own way for any types of things you struggle to say. "can you make sure to do the dishes before you go to bed?" feels like an argument waiting to happen, but "request: can you make sure to do the dishes before you go to bed?" gets the words flowing on a neutral word while making it clear that you're not looking for a fight

so yeah. suggestion: talk like an elcor

Um, TC, you know what, there are jokes you make that I don't like, you're hilarious sometimes but, you know? the one that mewtwo said to pig as soon as she didn't like that spicy berry, he said "are you really my daughter?", that didn't make me laugh, it made me angry, and also the one that huey took mega newtwo and for that part in the head and even made fun of everyone laughing and even laughed in the mother's face, making her mad, that made me disgusted with the huey, this joke he made is like "you took care of me since I was little, right? so let me make fun of you as a thank you for taking care of me.", and now mewtwo, because what father would say that to his son, that's verbal abuse, and some jokes, TC, make me mad, reminds me of the "daddy went to buy milk" jokes or "you are adopted" and I feel that this kind of joke is bad, because showing that the family doesn't love each other and that they don't value each other, I think that's missing for you and most of the artists who make mewtwo stories are missing, the mewtwos value what they have, because at some point they will lose it, and they won't have it. er any more good moments for them to seize, and most of the jokes you have make me sick you know? TC, explain to me, okay? Appreciation is an important thing for a family.

that's just kind of their family dynamic, they are a family that expresses their love in other ways besides constantly saying it, and they like to tease and make fun with egos clashing between the siblings

you might need to look for a different story to follow if it infuriates you this much because I simply don't know how else to explain the jokes and shitposts

Trying to craft jokes like Rodney Dangerfield used to do is just a really fun writing challenge for me. Like, his material is quite tricky to write anyway, but I have added a further challenge to make the jokes queer and avoid or minimize self deprication. So for a lot of them I have his pacing down but they're longer than I'd like.

But so the basic formula is one sentence should frame the landscape, the background, the situation as it were; and then the next sentence is the punchline. Ever so often there's three sentences, with a middle sentence bridging the set-up and punchline, but that's about the max. My attempts often go to four or five sentences, which is too long when you compare it to a guy who could just punch out like four or five jokes a minute. There's so many so fast it looks easy but especially trying to make them queer specific it take a lot of work to hone them.

Like, the first thing I think most people get wrong is trying to play the frame to a too specific audience. It's like okay, it works for memes online, but when I'm framing one of my RD type jokes I'm trying to imagine what an offline audience in Nebraska or Ohio might be familiar with. Thankfully there's much more trans awareness, but not enough to always reliably throw complicated queer ideas in two lines, so you keep the broad concepts really simple. My wife, my dad, my job, my doctor, etc. These are all pretty reliable touchstones for people who aren't always going to process my nonbinary asexual wife and my relationship and the whole complex polyamory thing.

It's all about compacting information to its minimal possible state of compression, trying to cut away every last scrap of extraneous detail. Every single thing to understand the punchline should be in the first sentence, which somehow also needs to be the verbal equivalent of brightly colored preschool shapes.

Once all that information is delivered, the follow through has to transform it into something different, but which carries the ideas of the framework forward in a logical way. The first step ideally makes people paint a picture of their own version of Dad or Doctor or Wife. With Rodney Dangerfield, the second step usually involved dropping himself in as a loser getting dumped on. Like "I went to the doctor and he said I was overweight. I said I wanted a second opinion so he said fine, you're also ugly." It's a classic but not really the vibe I want, but also fortunately being a trans queerdo gives me something entertainingly contrary to the familiar ideas in the set up. Like "geeze Dad I thought you'd be upset I'm trans. Well I wish you'd been a lawyer but as long as you're happy." That's a cute gag that needs a little extra framing up front but ultimately plays on many ideas broadly familiar to a wide audience while generating a pretty amusing bit of absurdity for a laugh (being a lawyer isn't the same as being a gender, funny!).

Anyway, it's just a really exciting process for me to get a kind of shitpost idea, but then workshop it into one of those one-two punch jokes. Some of them need a little more fine tuning, but they're all much more carefully crafted than meets the eye. A bit like the haiku, the formula is simple, but learning how to build it takes work.

SOMETIMES, I write.  Anyways an unedited bit from The Tailor’s Kiss, since I plan on finishing it once my degree is completed.  For new followers, this follows the life of Betony Redyng, an alderman’s daughter, as she wards off her unsavory suitors in the spring and summer of 1381, when the pressures of the Poll tax lit London aflame and threatened its independent rule. 

“Hmm, yes. May I walk you home?” He nodded, though his eyes did not focus on her face as Edward’s did. He was partially turned away, despite the older man offering his arm to her. Walter’s red face was less flushed than usual, making the lines forming around his eyes and lips stand out slightly. It seemed his time serving the city as an enforcer of the law was wearing on him. Beneath her touch, his forearm was hard with muscle. It was a firm reminder that for all his talking, he was very much a man of action. He was, as a nobleman might say, preux.

  Betony tried to keep her touch as light as possible. He started without a verbal acceptance, the brush of her fingers enough to set him walking. Idly, she wondered if she’d have to get used to that, for with Geoffrey dealt with, Sheriff Walter Doget was the only man actively pursuing her. Betony didn’t want a life of her word being worth nothing, especially in the places it mattered. He at least purposely slowed his step for her, and he finally smiled down at her. He seemed more interested in her throat and brooch, his eyes only rising to land on her lips as he asked, “Have you heard much of the goings-on outside of London?”

  Betony’s brows rose. That was the last subject she’d expected him to ask about. She tilted her head to the side, grasping for the gossip that traveled through the city’s network of women. That word traveled slowly, but there was always some woman whose cousin in the countryside had heard about something from a traveler, or had heard something from a friend. By the end of it, of course, the tale had warped into the exaggerated silhouette of monsters and scandal, but Betony loved that about gossip. Now she almost hated it. “Many are refusing to pay the poll tax. Some I’ve heard have taken up arms.”

  Walter snorted. “Fat chance there is of that happening here—forgive me for my language, Miss Redyng—but I’ve made ensuring the tax is paid a very personal endeavor.” He seemed to puff up with pride, even as they stepped out into the unseasonably cold rain.

  Betony was glad her entire dress was a waterspot, or else this would certainly have ruined her dress. She grimaced slightly at Walter’s words, a shiver traveling up her spine. She’d trust that to be the rain’s fault, but the poll tax might have been another reason. “May I ask how you’ve managed to do that, goodman?”

  “I’m certain the details would bore you.” Walter laughed. Betony’s insides twisted. Her touch grew firmer on his arm only so she might imagine what it might feel like to twist his arm in the same way—but violence was not ideal, especially not towards the enforcer of London’s laws. An act like that would be just as bad as fighting the mayor. “I’ve simply ensured that those who don’t comply with our good king’s tax face certain difficulties, as they haven’t obliged the laws of the city.”

  This time, she was certain, the chill was not from the rain. She expected talk like this from Venetians, who never said what they meant and always tried to impress their audience, but not a good Londoner. Even worse, a Londoner so respected by the civic government that he’d been named Sheriff at the age of thirty. Betony let out a chuckle that half caught in her throat. “I thought the king’s men would do that for you.”

  Doget made a dismissive noise. “Bah, you know the king’s men. Too afraid to interfere with our city’s independence.”

  “London still owes fealty to King Richard.” Betony replied. The young king had yet to impress her, but she was fully aware of that. The city’s writ of self-governance had been threatened—revoked, even—in the past, and she would not see it revoked again by riots. “Perhaps a gentler hand might—“

  Sheriff Walter cut her voice off with a laugh that echoed across the streets. It seemed lent had left few of the ladies hungry for dancing, for the square outside the church was nearly empty. Sound carried further than she’d ever seen it go her whole life. He looked down his sloped nose at her. “Kindness doesn’t pay taxes.”

  Betony bit back a retort. Her face felt hot for all the wrong reasons, most of all her thoughts on the state of the city being outright dismissed. Goodman Doget was certainly well-connected, but as a man who’d been unmarried all his life, he seemed to have no connections to the word spread through the women of the city. That meant he missed the words of the women outside the city as well. Those who were widowed with young children by the ongoing war with France were the most affected by the tax. The crop hadn’t been good enough to pay it. But Betony couldn’t risk a larger blow to her reputation to argue.

  Instead, she looked about the streets for a way out. Betony knew none of the people they passed well enough to excusably break away. With a thin smile, she instead prayed to Jesus, Mary and Joseph that another might approach her or the sheriff, and the excuse of conversation could give her an exit. Betony would find her prayers unanswered. As her hazel eyes searched every dampened face and the depths of each doorway, she was met only with the frowns of others. “Are you taking me another route? This isn’t the way my kin take to Knightrider.” Betony asked. By now, her veil was entirely plastered to her head. Moving her head one way or the other was an effort, with the drenched linen heavier than any of her sins.

  “I thought I’d show you a new way.” Goodman Walter said.

  The chill was certainly from the cold.

  Betony found it much harder to keep up her smile now. She loosened her grip on the sheriff’s arm just enough so she could break away easily. Her heart pounded in her chest. “I’d like to be returned home quickly, goodman.” Her voice shook as she spoke, “I’ve a dress to finish for Easter. You are aware that the Guildhall has agreed we’re all to wear purple during Easter mass.”

Back in my heyday when I was out here churning character analysis a mile a minute, Al/Angel relationship dynamics were something I really really enjoyed exploring. SO much of the fandom was on this weird "Al hates Angel for being a sex worker" "Radiodust is just Angel sexually harassing Al and Al ace panicking" or like every other flavor of acephobia & homophobia, and I felt like it was my calling to break down specifically why this was Bad, and why after the pilot, Alastor & Angel are actually really strategically positioned to be Chaos Friends and help each other grow as people.

I feel partially vindicated because, in six episodes, I don't think Alastor has made a single disparaging remark to Angel over his job. Angel's only sexual comment at Al was in like, the first episode (where Angel was doing horny verbal shitposting at EVERYONE), and was followed by the same "lol no" "ok lol" interaction as the pilot. All their other interactions have been cordial!

But.... I really wish that they had interacted more in the past six episodes! As I've pointed out in past analyses, Angel does not fear Alastor, and Alastor doesn't care that Angel is a famous porn actor. That already makes getting to know each other as People that much easier! As soon as Alastor stepped in the hotel, he was running the show, overwhelming Charlie and clowning on Vaggie -- and Angel was the first person to really throw him off his game! Nice! And Alastor ace panicked and kept it moving, and then defended the hotel against Pentious when Pentious pulled up to continue his beef with Angel. That's not Alastor being icked out by Angel and being like "ew this trashy hoe" like half the fandom was characterizing him as, that's Alastor publicly aligning himself with Angel! Alastor & Angel are both FUNNY and would make such fun chaotic friends lbr!!

I've also talked about how Charlie & Vaggie's approach to rehabilitation doesn't really address the root cause of sinner behavior. It's well-intentioned but naive! I have my reasons to believe that Alastor (and Husk) has a deeper understanding of what causes sinners to do what they do. I think that the amnesty that Charlie shows everyone is good for Angel, and canonically has led to his progress, but I also think Alastor's "inside of every demon is a lost cause" attitude (which, actually, can easily be like "I'm not going to try to change or fix you, come as you are") has it's upside too -- especially as a good foil to Charlie's approach.

Ever lay down in bed and think about those things in your life that make you so sad+ puts you in so much despair your chest aches and it's like the truth of what happened is too much for you to handle and in that moment you feel like you'll never be ok again? Yea.

i kind of hate writing kpop fanfics heh :// that kind of sounds bad but i think i’m tired of this genre/area of fanfiction.

it’s so bad that i barely even read kpop fanfics. with the exception of the moots i follow and the network im in, i have no energy for them, let alone writing it. and i’ve tried to make myself write for a long while but i don’t even like what i’m making anymore. like sure planning and writing tiny drafts or moments in a fic are fun for me. but whenever i sit down to actually write something i intend on posting here, my brain just shuts off.

i’m more interested in writing my own original stories (idk about posting them, im still not sure about that) but given the fact i have very little time to write anyway, i want to write things i actually enjoy.

i still have some ideas that i want to put out cause they literally won’t leave my brain until they are posted (i’m looking at you pride & prejudice au) but other than that, you can probably expect the same silence on this blog that you’ve already been seeing.

also i apologize for that. i’ve never been a verbal shitposter on this site. i’m very used to keeping to myself, so i lack motivation to actually be active. but that must’ve been boring for y’all to click on my blog and be greeted by a wasteland 😭

Sheprey concepts! They’re a ghost!

They were a friend of Bronica’s, but they passed naturally (drowning) so the Bugsnax weren’t the one to get ‘em. Leaving their ghost to be free! They’re around to try and warn others about the dangers - however you cannot automatically just see them. It takes a lot of time and encounters to see them. And they cannot speak to you verbally. (They can, only if they’re at the full last stage of being visible - but it’s still hard to make some words out.)

They’re bound to Snacktooth island and hope that they can be freed one day. (To either continue to protect others or to finally rest peacefully. If any more people come to Snacktooth - they’ll probably stay around to warn them as well if they don’t follow Triffy around.)

Since they knew Bronica they’re very close to Triffy and are quite protective of her! She’s the first one they want to appear to and communicate with as they used to know her when alive. 

(They were way younger than Bronica when they both went on the expedition together, but they still got to meet baby Triffy before they went. They’ve been haunting Snacktooth for quite a while.) (They were in their mid-thirties or so when they died.)

Like Bronica, they’re also an archeologist! They were really enthusiastic about their work. Someone might’ve even called them too sickly optimistic. That is, once you get to know them. They’re a bit of a goody-two shoes and are shy meeting new people, but they’re very out-going with the people they love and trust. They prefer following orders and having a set plan rather than taking too many risks.

Bronica was like their teacher and mentor! She would teach them a lot of things, and eventually they became very close friends. Of course they would say yes when offered to go to Snacktooth! Fatal mistake.

They have two forms they can alternate between, but it doesn’t affect how visible they may be to the others. They can choose to dissapear to someone - but if someone only sees them as a vague ghostly sillouette that drips water, that’s how they’ll see them even if they choose to be a fully visible and life-like (but floating) to someone who can already see them fully. It’s difficult to explain, but if you had my thought process you’d probably understand it better,,,

Basically, it depends on each living individual how they are seen to them. They could be shouting at someone behind their back and they wouldn’t even be seen or felt if that Grumpus has had 0 encounters with them before. One thing that can do that affects everyone is vanishing to them fully.

One sign of them being near is them dripping water! If one spot for long enough a puddle of water will form - one that’s visible to the living. This helps with speeding up the process of them being able to be seen by a certain Grumpus.

Long story short, they start with vague encounters, this slowly progresses ‘till they’re fully visible and represent themselves how they looked hen they were alive to a T. If they never want to appear, that’s an option too - but usually they try their best to be visible right away so that they can warn others of the dangers of Bugsnax.

That’s it with the lore for now, enjoy this and the shitpost I have for now ‘till I get better drawings and a proper ref for them. SOME Design aspects may change, remember that! But this is the overall idea they have. I will probably keep most of it like it is, though
