Well, I finally finished to read The Flames of Hope, drew a picture of Freedom aka Lizard. And... I`m not going to tell my opinion about the book, because a lot of people have already told it and mine will change nothing. I want to tell what I think about this series in general.
Tui should end it. Seriously. With all this Pyrrhia-Pantala contact being established, dissapearing of animus magic and the conflict beetwen scavengers and dragons solved TFoH looks like an obvious finish of this story. Yes, it is messy, weird and somewhat disappointing (IMO), but it`s what we have now. It`s written. And I see no sense for author to continue it all (except squeezing the money out of the franchise, of course).
Plus it feels like Tui is burnt out (and I'm not alone who notices it). Continuing to write the series in such state and with such attitude is not a good decision and there`s a big possibility of WOF turning into WC 2.0. I don`t mind more Winglets or something like this, but the main storyline should be left as it is.
And yes. Tui, where`s ref of Freedom? Same question about Hawthorn. There are a lot of characters who were written to be dead, but at least we know how they looked like

[Image ID: A drawing of Freedom a skinny, orange and green dragon from Wings of Fire. She is standing with one foot slightly raised with her head down and looking slightly up in anger. Her body is bright orange with dark orange stripes. She has an olive green stripe down her back and onto her head. This color also fades into all of her legs/feet . Her claws are a light grey-yellow. She has olive green half folded wings with dark olive green stripes at the ends. Her back has neon green triangular leaf-like spines. Her tail ends in a neon green leaf like fin. Her mouth is half open showing white teeth and a pale pink tongue. She has bright green eyes with a neon green slit in her pupil and dark orange spikes above her eyes. She is using green magic to grow a small plant and asking "Are you sure we can't kill everyone?" The word 'kill' is written in red and looks like it is written in blood. The background is pale green. /.End ID]
I did my favorite protag, so have my favorite antag (minus Scarlet of course because she's just the best character lol). I don't consider Freedom a 'villain' in the same way Scarlet, Darkstalker, and Blister are. Freedom definitely has done crummy stuff, but she's just an angsty child and went through a lot of trauma. She's obsessed with murder and killing and death and destruction. I love her.
This is how I imagine she looked in the mind-space where the majority of the third half of book 15 took place (not my fave thing but it was aight). She's a combo of like Rain, Leaf, Sky, and maybe some others. I saw one person call her an AncientWing and I live that. I will draw her creep/cool decomposing body with the plant too. That I wanta put a lot of time into.

Freedom!! A prompt from my Wings of Fire Goretober Challenge. A little late with this one, but oh well.
I don't really get the hatred towards The Flames of Hope...? I also thought it was a little disappointing (especially for a grand finale), but I didn't think it was bad. I feel like people need to lower their expectations for a series that targets elementary students. If fourth grade me read this book, Freedom would have RUINED me 😭
I think its main problem was introducing Cottonmouth and Freedom waaaay too late. A lot of people seem to hate Cottonmouth being the real villian, but I'm actually okay with that 🤷‍♀️ I thought the book had good tension and some cute moments. People who complain about it being too cheesy forget that WoF has been cheesy from the start lol.

Ok so, hot take, but I feel like flames of hope (and just the stuff to do with humans in wings of fire in general) would've been A LOT better if humans went extinct during the scorching, and cottonmouth was the only one left. Like, yeah sure, it was cool going through the memories and everything, but CAN YOU IMAGINE how surreal and uniquely terrifying it would've been to read through this series and have the only evidence of humans even existing in the first place be mysterious ruins, or the occasional remnant of their culture, only to find out at the end that this entire series has secretly been set post apocalypse when cottonmouth shows up. Could a dragon like Luna even understand what she's looking at in that scenario? Holy hell did the series ever have enough buildup to do this, too. The scorching is mentioned since book 1. Even if the humans were still around, but stayed as these mysterious background creatures instead of getting all involved with the plot, this could've worked. God it'd make for such a unique concept, AND it'd make for a insane conclusion to the series that'd wrap stuff up a lot better instead of leaving every reader with a sense of dread knowing the series is going in the dragon rider direction. (It'd also make the inevitable book about the scorching 10x more interesting to read).
Really, book 15 just makes me sad thinking about all the missed potential it has.
