fanaccount7: Everyone saying she’ll be champion when (1) Max is still on the grid and (2) she has drove literally one race for Mercedes. Nobody can predict how the season will play out yet; there simply hasn’t been enough time to see how comfortable all the drivers are in their cars and how they interact with each other.

user455: interact with each other? their jobs are to win. it’s given that everyone will be competitive, so i think it literally just comes down their car and the risks they take. the reason lewis, max, and even schumi were so dominant is that they happened to drive for the team with the most powerful car, and they were willing to go as close to the corners as possible/be super aggressive with other drivers.

but, in the end, i agree with you. i don’t think we can see what’s going to happen in the end yet. personally, though, i think y/n can place higher than she did last year if she keeps doing what she’s doing.

hungary was warmer than you had expected, that humid sort of heat that made you feel yucky no matter how many times you’d showered. but amongst the sea of sweaty drivers and mechanics, it could have felt much worse. lando had given you the grand tour of the paddock and track but duty called, and with your brother called off to some interview, you were left trackside.

there were no cars due to be on the track, so you were able to get as close as possibly. for years you’d gone to your brothers races, listened to his fanatic rants, and tried so hard to understand why he loved the sport so much. but now, standing and looking out at the quiet track, you started to understand the beauty.

“hello, again.” you jumped a little, the voice cutting through the peace. when you turned, you found fernando on the other side of the pit wall, looking at you through the gap in the fence. you chuckled, feeling caught, looking up at him.

“hi there,” you greeted, blinking innocently. but behind those eyes were little innocence, same as his own. you hadn’t slept with the driver, you weren’t that quick, but the night he’d spent in your apartment was long. wondering kisses, stolen touches, hesitance to leave. you both wanted more, but neither wanted to give in.

“you’re tagging along for the season, then?” he asks, eyes gleaming with possibility. you nod, humming quietly. as excited as you were for this job, another kind of excitement came knowing you’d be seeing fernando every weekend. “first time in hungary?”

“no, second. i travelled with some of my girlfriends during uni and we stopped in budapest for a few days — though i don’t remember most of it,” you admitted, cheeks turning red at the memory. he laughed, head thrown back with pure delight. it made your stomach twist endlessly.

“well, let me refresh your memory. i’ll take you to dinner tonight,” he offers, charming as ever. your brows raise, trying to differentiate his flirtations from his sincerity. “consider it a congratulations on the new job.”

you’re getting ready to refuse, knowing how lando would react and the complications it would bring, when fernando’s hand slipped through the pit wall railing, brushing over yours until it rests on top. you look down, noticing just how much bigger his hand is than yours. stronger, too, with more defined knuckles and much more worn down from years of driving.

“please say yes,” he whispers, even though there’s no one else around, and squeezes your hand softly. you sigh, meeting his deadly gaze once more.

“alright. but i want italian food.”

“Sweetheart, are you mad?”

Those were the words Fernando murmured in your ear as you sullenly stood by his side, tersely sipping on your flute of champagne. You had barely uttered a word all night, even when you’d bumped into your mutual friends. It was starting to worry Fernando; You weren’t the type to stay silent at a party. Quite the opposite, in fact – Usually you were the life of it.

In response to his question, you merely huffed, affording him the slightest nod as you turned away from him, your eyes nonchalantly roaming the crowd.

Fernando let out a frustrated sigh, his brows furrowing as he excused himself from his conversation with Sebastian and Mark, pulling you into a quiet corner.

You let yourself be tugged along, noting the trail of whispers and prying eyes that followed the two of you as you walked out onto the balcony. Fernando shut the door behind you, separating the two of you from the crowd.

A moment of tense silence passed, before Fernando, unable to help himself, broke it.

“Baby,” he pleaded, taking your hand and rubbing his thumb over your knuckles soothingly, “Talk to me. What’s wrong?”

You bit your lip.

You’ve always known that Fernando was a hit with the ladies. I mean, he’s a Formula 1 driver for goodness’s sake! A little attention from girls seeking their ten minutes of fame was to be expected. But what you didn’t expect was for girls to be seemingly throwing themselves left and right at Fernando at the gala, all the while you were right by his side.

It never ceased to irritate you how these girls would send you a condescending look as they attempted to flirt with your boyfriend. Most of them would send snobbish looks your way, eyeing you up and down as if to assert some sort of dominance over you. You didn’t mind, because you knew that you were the one Fernando loved, the one he came home to every night. But it did irk you, of course; The blatant disrespect was something you just couldn’t stand.

“It’s…” you hesitated, suddenly feeling a little self-conscious. “It’s just that, you know, there’s just been so many-”

Speak of the devil. The door to the balcony creaked open, and one of the girls who had been flirting with Fernando earlier – Was it Lacey? Or, Anastasia? You really couldn’t keep track at this point – poked her head out.

“Oh, Fernando,” she smiled, fluttering her eyelashes at him. “The chairman’s giving a toast, everyone’s supposed to come ‘round and celebrate. Come on, I saved you a seat-”

“-That really won’t be necessary,” Fernando cut her off, raising a hand to interrupt her. He sent a strained smile her way, praying that the look on his face conveyed the irritation he felt. He glanced over at you, only to find you smiling tensely, gripping your flute of champagne tightly.

As he watched you silently seethe at the girl, everything finally clicked. You were jealous.

Fernando couldn’t help the smile that ghosted across his face, feeling strangely flattered. You were jealous over him. His girl, who had been upset, huffing and puffing all night, all because she got jealous.

He turned back to the girl, resigning his face to a stoic. “If you don’t mind,” he said curtly, nodding towards the door.

Finally taking the cue, the girl flushed in embarrassment before flitting away, muttering something like “So much for playing hard to get” under her breath as she did so.

You scowled as she left, taking a long sip of your drink to calm yourself down. You’d been frowning for so long that your facial muscles were starting to hurt, which was never a good sign.

Setting your now-empty glass on the nearest surface, you turned back to Fernando, rubbing your temple in frustration as you said, “Okay, so what did you want to talk to me ab-!”

Suddenly, his lips were on yours, and there he was. Kissing you.

You stood there, stunned for a moment, before leaning into the kiss. It was almost instinctive as you wrapped your arms around his neck, unable to stop yourself from smiling into the kiss as he snaked his own arms around your torso.

Then, the initial pleasant surprise wore off, and you remembered the reason for your prior irritation, and reluctantly pulled away. Fernando stood there with a smug smile on his face, gazing at you lovingly.

You narrowed your eyes at him, trying to suppress the giddy smile that threatened to overcome your features. “…What is it? Why’re you lookin’ at me like that?”

He grinned, stepping closer to you, pulling you in by the waist.

“You’re just so cute when you get jealous.”
