A Family Affair | Euro 2020 Football Fanfiction

Life is beautiful and life is cruel. A window into the souls of the victorious and the vanquished. In a way, football did come home during the summer of 2021. Follow along Amelia’s journey, navigating the football world as a tactical analyst for the italian football team, with a brother and father part of the three lions. Will Amelia leave Italy and come back to England? Will she leave the Serie A for the Prem? Will she set aside the bianconeri stripes for new colours, leaving behind friendship for love? Hello my lovelies!! Part 3 sees a whole lot Amelia's beautiful brain & you get your first slice of interaction with the british boys - leading up to an all important Mykonos adventure (part 4 - out friday). It was the day after the final match and Amelia should be nursing a hangover due to the large amount of red wine she consumed with her Italian counterparts the night before. However, she finds herself at St. George’s Park before 9am, meeting one of her father’s colleagues who directs her to the recreation room that she remembers from a few days prior.

Standing outside the door, she assumed she was just waiting for her dad as agreed on the phone an hour earlier. As she was waiting, she could hear Gareth Southgate give a team talk to the players, praising them for their ability and pleading for them to bounce back from this defeat and use it to push on. The next voice she could hear was that of her father, giving them the tactical run through of the game. She listened to the points her father made, and both agreed and disagreed with some. Unexpectedly, the man sent to collect her opened the door and ushered her inside.

She stood at the back of the room, facing her dad and Gareth, whilst the team and other management staff had their backs to her. Making eye contact with her dad, he smiled slightly.

“Whilst I can offer you my opinion on the match last night, to better prepare you for the next time, there is no better opinion to learn from at this moment than that of your opponent. Amelia, would you please come up here” Dean really threw her into this situation, that again, she was not prepared for nor did she want to participate in. However, the 30+ sets of eyes that had currently turned around to stare at her didn’t exactly inspire a choice to be made here.

“Lads, this is my daughter. I taught her everything she knows, which was probably too much considering I can now recognise that it was her signature plays that the italian side used to their advantage last night. Treat her with respect, or I will let her at you. Which i’m sure you all saw a few nights ago in this very room” My dad spoke as I walked up to the front area, weaving in and around beanbags with players occupying them.

Standing in front of the Three Lions was more nerve wracking now than it had been when she was confronting her brother, maybe Fede did offer her protection as his bodyguard. Either way, she put her big girl pants on (figuratively speaking, literally she was wearing her official puma tights and Italian polo) and got on with it as if she was speaking to her team.

“Thanks Dad. Hey guys, I think the first thing I would like to say is that you’re allowed to feel exactly how you feel right now. There is no rush to ‘get over it’ or ‘push on and learn’. You need to feel this now, feel it throughout your body, understand the pain and then turn it into motivation.” I speak to the group, trying to accurately express how sincere I am to this group of heartbroken men.

“As for tactics, I can stand here and praise you for how good you really are but that's not how you are going to learn. You came into the game hard and fast.” I paused, understanding the innuendo just as it was flying out of my mouth. I pursed my lips and tried to hold my giggle in, however some of the boys seem to have the same sense of humour as I do. My brother, face of steel and eyes that burn into any man that tries to joke with me.

“Sorry, can’t help myself. So yeah, you took charge of the game from kick off and we were not ready. You had the aggression and desire to push from the start and that's what you did, Shaw, you really surprised me with that goal. Not because I didn't think you could do it but because I wasn’t anticipating you being someone we had to watch so closely.”

“Again, something you guys need to keep in mind is that it is literally my job to know everything about you and how you play the game, what foot you prefer, who you pass to, how long you hold the ball before you pass, do you like to assist or score...all of these things make a massive difference in each play we make.”

“The error you made came around the 25th minute of the game, we had settled into the game and did what we do best - we slowed you down. In Italy, in the Serie A, which is where most of my team play, the game is a lot slower. There is more skill and tactic used to ensure a favourable outcome. Again, i'm not saying you all don’t have skill, but the Prem favours pace over tactics and strategy. The only way we were going to be able to win was by making you play our game, but in your half of the pitch.”

At this point, all of their eyes are trained to me and the more senior players of the team, like Henderson, Walker, Coady, Kane, they understand what i’m trying to say. Gareth, my dad and other members of staff are sitting to one side, arms folded and a slight smile on their face at the simplicity of my approach to such an important game. I direct my next question to them.

“Can I ask - have you already selected your man of the match?”

“Off record, yes we have. Before I announce to the team who it is, can I direct the question back to you and find out who you would award it to?” Gareth poses back to me, interested to hear my opinion.

“While the obvious choices would be Kane, Sterling, Maguire - your players who perform week in week out and are consistent and no doubt deserve an award as such. I would recommend Declan Rice. Personally, he was the most instrumental in the match last night. Every time we turned to attack, he was there to stop it. He was a player I was confident that I knew the extent of his ability, when it was obvious that I didn't.”

The boys around him, Mason Mount & Ben Chilwell, offered him a gentle shove and ruffle of the hair, to show their encouragement to the bashful boy who seemed surprised at the praise he was receiving.

“The other player that I think deserves a bit of a shoutout, and not because of his hair, is Jack Grealish.” I spoke, looking around the room until we locked eyes. I wanted him to understand how serious i was about my next words.

“You are so dangerous on the ball, you are an asset as a team mate, you aren’t guilty with the ball, but you have the power behind you to score when the opportunity presents itself. The moment you were subbed on I pulled Jorginho to the side and told him to treat you like Chiellini and Bonnucci were handling Sterling and Kane. You were one of my players to watch, and for good reason”

At the end of the little session, I said thanks to the boys for listening and that I hope to see them again in a tournament. The only way to be the best is to beat the best. After a quick round of applause that made me feel more special than I am, I walked past my brother, gave him a quick ruffle of his hair and met my dad at the back. Gareth dismissed the boys and they all stood up, breaking away and grabbing some breakfast that was set up to the side of the room, for one last team meal.

“Mills!! I’ll get you an almond croissant and a coffee, come sit with me!” Walker shouted from across the room.

“Oi mate, she’s my sister not yours” Ben counters from the back of the line.

“Yeah she's your sister by blood, mine by choice.” Kyle firmly states and begins his way to one of the tables.

“I suppose i better join Kyle before he drowns everyone in his tears” i joked with the england officials i was standing with before walking over to Kyle and a few of his team mates.

“Sooo am I supposed to pretend I don’t know who you all are so you can introduce yourselves? Or do we just mutually agree that I know too much about each of you and not bring it up?” I question the boys, jokingly. They all laugh and I sit down in the space Kyle left between himself and John Stones. I sat there and got to know some of the boys on a less competitive level, working out who was a leader both on the pitch and off it. After listening to the boys joke around and just be mates, rather than teammates, I leaned over to Kyle.

“Hey, before I go, do you think you can introduce me to Bukayo? I want to speak with him for a moment.”

“Yeah sure, I'll take you over there. Why are you nervous? You've never been shy before” Kyle questioned back at me.

“I’m not nervous, I'm just hyper aware of the sensitivity of the moment. Last night would have been tough”

Saying goodbye to the boys, Kyle directed me over to a table that was sitting my brother Ben White, Kalvin, Ben Chilwell, Grealish, Saka, Sancho & Rashford.

“Hey boys, Ben, I just wanted to come say goodbye before I head off.” I directed towards my brother. He pulled up a chair and asked me to sit for 5 more minutes, claiming he deserved it after months of no contact.

“Ben here didn’t let us know he had a sister as smart as you...what happened to you Ben? Did you miss that gene?” Jack Grealish poked at my brother. With his signature scowl on his face, Ben White let his mates laugh at his expense.

“Oh don’t make fun of my brother Benny, that’s my job!” I joked back, setting the boys off again with my brother’s childhood nickname. It was nice to hear some laughter again from a side that looked so solemn the night before.

“No in all seriousness boys, I especially came over because I wanted to talk to you Bukayo - what you did was so impressive. In a final, as the last penalty taker, to take on the responsibility of the nation at the age of 19! Not many players would dare to do that. You have earned a lot of respect, particularly from the Italian camp.” I spoke with a smile on my face, directed at the young boy.

“The same goes for you two” Now looking at Sancho & Rashford.

Bukayo looked down at his hands & smiled, before getting up and walking to my side of the table. Anticipating what he was going to do next, I stood up and welcomed him with open arms. Grateful that he understood my message and was beginning to accept the praise he so deserved. Stepping back from the hug, I turned to address the group of lads one more time.

“If any of you fancy a change of pace and want to come over to the Serie A, just give me a call - Benny can give you my number!” I start to speak, before I'm cut off but my brother.

“Stop poaching my mates! I’ve already lost you to another country. I don't need to lose anyone else” He jokingly says while standing to walk me out of St. George’s Park. I know it was a joke but I can't help but think there was some truth to that.

It had been more than 3 years since I moved out of our family home to start my life in Turin, and not one moment had i regretted it or thought i made the wrong decision. Don’t get me wrong, there are times when I wished I was closer to my family, but I know I had to make that move to prove to myself I am just as successful as I hoped I would be. Not saying I have learnt everything there is to learn with the Serie A giants, Juventus, but maybe it's time for a new challenge? Maybe I can bring the strategic spin on the game to the fast paced action of the premier league?

You hadn’t been expecting your crush on Fede. It crept up on you slowly, until one day you were looking at him and wondering how you’d ever overlooked him. Over the years, the two of you had always been there for each other, through good and bad. He’d helped you get over countless relationships, and you’d done the same for him. Now, he was going to play in one of the biggest competitions on one of the largest stages in the world, and you had to go and realize you were in love with him.

You watched him play match after match for Italy, your excitement building as he helped get Italy to the finals against England. You sat in the stands at Wembley, the ‘Chiesa 14’ burning a hole on your back. Before the semifinal match, you promised yourself you’d tell him if Italy lost, but then they’d won and you didn’t want to throw him off his game right before the finals. So here you sat in his kit, mentally preparing yourself to confess your feelings to him whether Italy lost or won.

When Federico had been subbed off, injured, you’d almost lost your mind. You wanted to go to him, find him and tell him everything was going to be okay because you loved him and you’d be by his side. He’d given you a friends and family pass that you quickly flashed past security, racing down the tunnels to find Federico sitting on one of the exam tables.

“Fede!” You gasped, breathless. The medical team finished with him and left, giving you a nod on the way out. You rushed to his side, taking his face in your hands. “I was so worried.”

“Oh, Tesoro, you don’t need to worry about me,” he murmured, pulling you in for a hug. “I’ll be fine.”

You buried your face in the crook of his neck, sighing deeply. “I’m always gonna worry about you, Fede. I love you.” Your voice shook as you said it. You’d said it to him a thousand times but this time was different.

Federico hated the way his heart responded to those three little words; it didn’t know the difference between platonic and romantic like his head did, which always made moments like this far more painful than they should have been. “I know, Tesoro. I love you, too.” They were words he’d been saying in response for years now, words he didn’t give a second thought to saying.

“No, Fede,” you said, pulling away and shaking your head. “I don’t think you get it. I love you.” Your eyes searched his, hoping the serious expression on your face told him everything he needed to know.

His eyes went wide when he realized what you meant. “Really?” He asked, incredulous.

You nodded. “Do you really love me, too?”

“Sì. I love you, too, Tesoro. I’ve loved you for years - I was just waiting for you to notice.” He ducked his head, blushing at what he’d just admitted.

You took his face in your hands so he was looking at you as you said, “All this time I didn’t realize that the best thing to ever happen to me was right in front of me. Please, Fede, I don’t want to waste any more time. Will you kiss me?”

Without another word, Fede put one hand on your waist and the other on the back of your neck, pulling you into him for a memorable first kiss.

The two of you walked out of the tunnel together, watching the penalties that ended with Italy being crowned champions. You held onto Fede and didn’t let go as he kissed you again in front of all his teammates.

COMMENTARY EPISODE 14 ( castiel and nath route)

SUB ITA :

Finalmente abbiamo un episodio ricco e vario, temevo ci saremmo focalizzati troppo sul bullismo etc etc, non che mi dispiaccia ma ho altre priorità.

Melody: come al solito lei e le manie di protagonismo, oltre che l’ostentazione perenne, vanno a braccetto..A dire il vero quando ha descritto cosa avrebbe fatto in vacanza mi ha messo solo che tristezza,non invidierei mai onestamente qualcuno che ostenta il fatto che vive solo che di studio.

Yeelen: conferma pt 45948594 del fatto che lei e il suo bipolarismo vadano a braccetto.Non a caso ho rifiutato immediatamente di vedere “ american horror story” con lei.Non esiste proprio.

Ambra& anoressia : e qui tocchiamo un argomento mooolto delicato, come al solito la beemoov lo tratta con frettolosità e mezza superficialità.Qualcosa di vero l’hanno messo, come il modo di ambra di pensare e agire , diciamo che se non altro su questo punto sono stati molto fedeli ma avrebbero potuto fare di più. Non mi soffermo molto sui miei istinti omicida che di tanto in tanto comparivano quando lei palpeggiava castiel o faceva la carina con lui :’D ..Apprezzo però che per quanto per me sia un cambiamento innaturale il suo,non sia più marpiona con castiel.Anche se il fatto che hanno passato molto tempo assieme dopo la scuola ,NON mi è piaciuto particolarmente.Un altra cosa che non ho particolarmente apprezzato, è quando nel corso di sviluppo personale, ambra non ha preso coraggio e parlato a cuore aperto di com’era al liceo.Un occasione persa , considerando che in questo episodio sembrava quasi l’argomento centrale dell’episodio in sè, quando alla fine si è parlato di tutt’altro.

Castiel: io penso di amarlo sempre di più, ha messo da parte il suo “ astio” nei confronti di nathaniel per aiutarlo , si fa in 4 per aiutare sempre tutti e da anima e corpo per la sua amata . Il suo drama inoltre sta proseguendo bene, in fondo un po’ di ansia ci sta , altrimenti se fosde tutto semplice, non ci sarebbe gusto .E come pensavo , castiel non ha paura affatto di vivere la sua relazione alla luce del sole, anche se quando ha accompagnato la dolcy a casa, dopo essere usciti dalla snake room , erano in un luogo “ pubblico”, si è lasciato andare lo stesso . Credo che qui l’unica che si fa troppi problemi, sia la dolcetta . Ma di lei, ne parlo nel prossimo punto .

Dolcetta: *PREMESSA, questa parte cambia logicamente da quale route si segue , qui sto parlando per la dolcetta Team cass *Onestamente in questo episodio, mi ha fatto arrabbiare In una maniera incredibile . Castiel è quello che ci tiene di più . Lei sembra quasi la prenda con superficialità a tratti e poi che si “ corregga” e mostri un filo di paura e tristezza, come se , non volesse pensarci .. Mi sa che non ha chiaro il fatto che “ O VA IN TOUR O È UNA RELAZIONE DA BUTTARE “. Se castiel è così “ apprensivo è perchè più di tutti vuole far funzionare questa cosa!.. Capisco prenderla con calma e che si parla della prossima estate ma è una cosa a cui non puoi scappare e come ha detto rayan per il progetto di gruppo, ha l’opportunità sempre di lavorare con un arista etc etc. ... Mi dispiace ma se io fossi al suo posto me ne fregherei e andrei senza nè sè e nè ma Con lui .. La dolcetta inventa solo scuse , volere è potere . Nessuno le ha detto di rinunciare , si tratta solo di organizzarsi .. A parte questo , cambiando argomento ,il simil appuntamento organizzato da rosa è stato molto bello , se pur breve .Questo per dire che Se ci riesce persino castiel a organizzare lavoro e vita sentimentale, ce la puó fare anche la dolcetta !!.. So giá che tanto andrà a finire bene ma in questo momento e in questo epsodio, non riesco a reggerla. Guardando gli altri personaggi , che hanno situazioni ben più gravi da non dormire la notte, lei per me è ed è stata troppo superficiale e menefreghista.. Traspare in maniera assurda nei dialoghi con castiel quanto quasi poco le interessi a tratti e svii la questione .. E ha fatto sentire castiel inadatto , come se dovesse lui scusarsi, quando è normalissimo chiedere ció, visto che le cose poi andrebbero a finire molto male .. Castiel gliel’ha detto quanto seriamente è preso e lei non fa altro che giustificarsi e minimizzare dicendo che devono prendersela con calma.. Questo si ma mi sembra che tra tutti e due ,facciate come i gamberi .. 50 passi avanti e 500 indietro .. Ma di sicuro quella che si sta prendendo meno la responsabilità delle sue azioni è la dolcetta .. Perchè castiel avrà pure “sbagliato “per la ONS.. ma per quanto sia frettoloso di natura per certi versi, ora sta facendo di tutto per dare un senso e non distruggere nuovamente quello che si era costruito un tempo.. Capisco il voler rimanere coi piedi per terra ma sa e sanno già entrambi, che di soluzioni non ce ne sono tante .. Quindi voglio sperare che la dolcetta si svegli e accetti il fatto che dopo la laurea deve andare con castiel .. La paura ci sta ma fino a un certo punto .

NATH ROUTE : Rispetto a quella di castiel ho speso 1522 PA a fronte dei 1572 di cass. Su nath non c’è moltissimo da dire, se non che questa volta merita il primo posto la sua route, rispetto a castiel ma non significa che disdegni cass, mi interessano in egual modo. Semplicemente nathaniel ha sfruttato meglio il drama della sorella e l’appuntamento alla spiaggia è stato più hot e romantico.Il che era anche giusto, visto e considerato che il romanticismo era minimo nei precedenti episodi.Diciamo che castiel e nathaniel si sono invertiti i ruoli nell’ep 13 e 14..Nel precedente episodio ho preferito castiel perchè l’appuntamento al cinema era stato più divertente e romantico, mentre nath aveva un altro tipo di situazione.Non che anche qui non avessero avuto situazioni diverse è una questione di semplice preferenza. Posso dire però che entrambe stanno proseguendo molto bene.Castiel in questo episodio ha lasciato la classica strizza da “ relazione a rischio?” mischiata a un finale romantico ,identico a quello di nathaniel nell’episodio 7..In ogni caso sono intenzionata a seguire entrambe le route..Su cass voglio sapere come faranno a stare insieme e cosa succederà, soprattutto voglio sapere se i media li metteranno in difficoltà, il manager cosa ne pensa..Su nath come riuscirà a uscire dalla droga, come farà ad aiutare sua sorella e come farà a stare con la dolcetta

And as Rayan said for the group project, he has the opportunity to always work with an arist etc etc. ... I’m sorry but if I were in his place I wouldn’t give a shit and went with him .. The candy only invents excuses , want is power . No one told her to give up, it’s all about organizing. Apart from that, changing the subject ,the similar appointment organized by rose was very nice, if still brief . NATH route: Compared to Castiel I spent 1522 PA on 1572 cass. On Nath there is not much to say, except that this time deserves the first place his route, compared to Castiel but it does not mean that I don’t like cass, they both interest me equally. Simply Nathaniel took better advantage of the sister drama and the appointment at the beach was hotter and romantic.Which was also right, seen and considered that the romance was minimal in the previous episodes.Let’s say that Castiel and nathaniel have reversed roles in the’ep 13 and 14.. In the previous episode I preferred Castiel because the appointment at the cinema had been more fun and romantic, while Nath had another kind of situation.Not that even here they had not had different situations is a matter of simple preference. I can say however that both are continuing very well.Castiel in this episode has left the classic squeal from“risk relation?” mixed with a romantic ending, identical to that of nathaniel in episode 7.. In any case I intend to follow both routes.. On cass I want to know how they will be together and what will happen, especially I want to know if the media will put them in trouble, the manager what he thinks. On Nath how he’s gonna get out of drugs, how he’s gonna help his sister and how he’s gonna get out of candy

Episode 9

Clip 1 - Silvia spills the beans

Skam Italia being educational, kinda! I’m going to try out this headache technique.

According to the subs I found, Sana’s janitor told her about it? … her housekeeper? That’s probably closer to what it was but I just like the idea of Sana going around striking up conversations with janitors.

But another version of the subs didn’t have that part at all so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Dear Lord, Silvia, chill the hell out. Someone sitting in someone else’s car doesn’t mean they’re dating. Although lmao, Eva and Noora could have stood to learn that in season 2.

Actually, I do get how Silvia would be upset? She’s really jumping the gun but Edoardo just treated her like crap in front of people. I would probably be a little hurt that my friend was maybe hanging out with someone who hurt me. The problem with Silvia is that her motivation is less, “Eva, how could you associate with someone who’s treated me like garbage?” and more, “Eva, what were you doing with my mans???”

Evaaaaa, why did you trade that completely obvious look with Eleonora??? Just make it seem the most suspicious you can. I mean, if you don’t want to spill the whole truth about Edoardo digging for info on Eleonora, you can literally say “I studied for my exam in the car and he asked me about it” and technically that’s not a lie.

The flashbacks with Eva and Laura were pretty cute. Aesthetic hair-braiding!

I do like Sana immediately being like “lol why would you trust Laura” and bringing up the water throwing incident as a sort of logical evidence why Laura isn’t the greatest, as opposed to Vilde/Silvia saying something dumb and Islamophobic and Sana having to mention the water incident as proof of her loyalty. Also Silvia looks humbled by Sana mentioning she was defending Silvia’s honor.

Sana asking Silvia whether she has to meet her mother was a nice way of calming the situation for Eva’s sake while getting Silvia to leave before the problem can escalate. It was thoughtful for Silvia, too, as it gave her a chance to escape instead of digging the hole deeper.

I'm glad that the Edoardo lift had more plot relevance than just ship teasing (multi-tasking is A+) and I think that it’s good to illustrate how much it would break Eva is to lose a friend again. Her offering to let Silvia listen to the message she left Martino as proof is rather heartbreaking in its desperation. On the other hand, I don’t know how I feel about the emotional impact of this scene having to be more about poor Eva weeping and having to beg Silvia for forgiveness over something that was ultimately trivial and meant nothing, and that we as the audience know meant nothing, rather than Eva dealing with the guilt that she’s been carrying around for months over destroying her relationship with her best friend. That is the Big Secret Eva has been hiding from both her new friends and the audience so it probably needs more focus (which to be fair, is elaborated on in the bathroom scene later).

I saw some talk of how people thought it was an improvement that Silvia didn’t call Eva a slut, and while of course it’s nice that she didn’t do so, I don’t get why it’s better for Silvia not to call Eva a slut in this version since Noora directly confronts Vilde about it in the moment, it’s not like it was this casual misogyny in the show that went unaddressed. That was the point, it was a teachable moment. It’s certainly not worse that the moment wasn’t there, I just think it’s more about how it’s handled than anything else. (Also, I mean … Vilde being a jerk was specifically a tip off that something was going on with her.)

Clip 2 - Eva talks to a friendly serpent

Martino knows all the school drama and social scene. It is pretty damn shady of him to be like oh yeah, they didn’t invite you because that girl whose boyfriend you kissed, her friend is organizing it, when he is responsible for the apparent non-invite in the first place, or so he would think. But he’s so casual about it. Not much guilt when he tells her that. Maaaaybe a little more when she starts to tell him about what she’s dealing with at school? IDK.

Eva sounds less angry or frustrated, more defeated.

I’m still wondering what her arc is going to be? Because there isn’t that pressing question of “who are you?” and her not having her own identity, it’s like … I guess she’s questioning whether she’s become a bad person? Sort of? She has Silvia making assumptions about her being a bad person, Laura thinks she is a bad person based on events that really happened, and Gio is questioning why she hangs around with bad people. That could be an area to explore in terms of her relationship with Laura but I’m not all that sure how it would play regarding her and Gio since Gio has made many of the same mistakes she has, he can’t exactly talk.

Martino trying to pull some reverse psychology is cute because he can’t quite keep a straight face.

Sucks that this friendship is about to go down the toilet!

Clip 3 - Eva and the older girls

Heh, this angsty song gets cut off as soon as we establish that Maria does not give a crap who Eva is.

I always enjoy this scene and this advice. It’s one of the most underrated parts of season 1. These girls didn’t seem as invested as giving Eva some friendly advice but again, love that they get interested in their own sexual exploits rather than Eva’s and she ends up just walking away.

It’s nice that there was a totally logical, boring reason they didn’t get invites though how were they planning to invite everyone else once they stopped on Facebook? Word of mouth?

Mmm, I don’t know if I totally buy that Alice’s BFF doesn’t give a shit at all who Eva is? Of course her maturity is nice, and I can certainly buy that she doesn’t care enough to keep Eva from being invited to the party, but Alice got in a physical fight with this girl because she was that upset. . Like who were those girls accompanying Alice in the fight if not her friends? (At first they seemed like they wanted to hold Alice back but by the end it seemed like they were fighting as well.)

I think I’d have preferred if Maria was like, “Just between you and me, Federico is a fuckboy and I’m glad Alice can see the truth now,” or “I don’t like that my best friend was hurt, but I’m not petty enough to keep you off the list” or “I love Alice but she overreacts to everything and makes a lot of drama.” Or just some explanation for her total lack of fucks. The older Norwegian girls weren’t like, Iben’s best friends, correct? They weren’t even in the same grade? Maria has her BFF involved.

Clip 4 - Hippogriff

Fede, teach me your ways of absorbing information just as Sana showed us how to get rid of headaches.

Sana having an uncharacteristically soft moment and trying to deny it. She’s been really blunt with Silvia but their relationship has been all about helping Silvia with no apparent gain for Sana, except friendship.

Also she’s very reluctant to spread rumors, like this Sana goes from hard to soft pretty fast.

Federico and Laura leaving the men’s bathroom together sure adds a layer to Edoardo’s comment about Silvia hanging around the boy’s bathroom! That is just a thing these characters do, hook up in bathrooms. In S3 Martino can just wander into any men’s bathroom and find a girl to pretend to like.

Clip 5 - Eva and Laura and Alice

Nice use of music with the tense beat going as Eva drags off Laura, then it cuts off abruptly as Eva is about to get real and vulnerable.

This is easily the best acting Italian Eva has done so far. There have been a few “emotional” scenes where I thought she seemed too theatrical and not natural for the material but this was very good. I almost wanted them to stretch it out longer, as in the original, so we could get more of this performance.

And I’m pretty sure Laura was crying too by the end, which is very touching. I do think it’s one of S1’s best aspects how the Ingrid/Laura is not the villain, is actually the wronged party, but that she and Eva are able to come to a peaceful resolution.

It’s pretty sad that Eva made that little attempt at a wave back in the first clip. She really missed Laura.

Ha, I didn’t care for that Alice intro, though! Seeing her come up in the hallway definitely distracted from this intense, emotional acting between Eva and Laura. Especially because the moving music keeps going as she’s spying on them, and only cuts off when she throws her books down. I think it would’ve been more effective to keep the Eva-Laura shots going and keep us really engrossed in their dialogue, and then when Laura mentions Fede, suddenly cut to Alice standing like right there in the doorway and cut off the music, for a true jolt and change in the scene’s energy.

Alice’s actress looks so defeated as she realizes what a piece of shit her boyfriend is. And it’s nice that she apologizes and asks how Eva is doing. You know, before she inadvertently reveals Eva has been betrayed by a good friend.

“He looks like he cares about you” does that mean Martino looked pained when he told Alice about Eva and Fede? Boyyyy, why did you do such a stupid thing? (I know why, it’s still stupid.)

General Comments:

This has been a solid remake and overall they’re handling Eva’s emotional turmoil well. The point I’m wondering about is what Eva’s ultimate conclusion/personal statement is going to be since they’ve left out a lot of the questioning of her identity and insinuations that she is a follower not making her own choices. Season one’s strength lay a lot in that finale so I hope they have something cohesive for her character.
