Student (when we first met) & now she is a Dentist (currently) I always felt like school was a sham, just a holding cell for kids while parents figured out how to survive and get a break from past mistakes. My first experience with love was in pre-school with this girl named Whitney who i had a special connection with. I would take the blame for her when she talked in class, she would give me her lunch as gratitude. It was a beautiful relationship. Graduation eventually hits, and nobody’s telling me shit about how all of my classmates were going to be separated from me like the cattle we were. I would never see Whitney again. At the age of 4, I already didn’t fuck with humanity.  

By the time i made it to Kindergarten i was over this shit, until i met her. If I only have one gift in this world, it’s my ability to spot potential. I saw potential lying on her gym mat for nap time right before lunch eating snacks, prepared lovingly from a two parent Inglewood household. Throughout the year I could tell she was smarter and more self - aware than all of her peers, that she understood how this world worked just like me. I knew I was young though, so i figured I’d be patient in my approach of pursuing my future life partner.  

Middle school lands, and I think it’s about time to finally let this girl know how I feel. People may read this and ask how much can you really know as a pre-teen, but my homies were finger banging girls in the Taco Bell bathroom across the street from my school asking me to smell their finger when they came back with a bag full of chili cheese burritos. I knew my approach would be different, because our union was based on a foundation of friendship that we had cultivated over the years. In my mind, the Taco Bell experience could wait for at least a year. One of my best friends at the time knew about my aspirations, and happened to be pursuing my future lady’s best friend. He thought it’d be a good idea to approach them as a tandem, which I agreed. What i didn’t know was that this nigga had already wrote them a letter on our behalf with the plan he had JUST presented me. Surprisingly it worked, and years of patience had manifested itself into a relationship all before the lunch bell rang.

We walked around the yard together for lunch under a new context, but couldn’t get a word out. By the time the last period hit, i got a note from my girl that said she made a mistake and it was over. A nigga lasted about 40 minutes in a relationship, i was devastated. Never even bought her a chili cheese burrito, i had it all lined up.

Obviously, I was a kid but a lot was learned from this moment. I’m still friends with this girl, we got drunk and went to a John Mayer concert a few months ago. Her favorite song is Hood Nigga by Gorilla Zoe. Our friendship has lasted because shit was real from the beginning, there was a foundation. Everybody isn’t compatible romantically, and it’s fucking fine. Sometimes people can just appreciate the value you provide in their life, like free dental advice while you figure out your insurance situation. 

I also want to thank Fashionspitta for encouraging me to write again, and not leaving my legacy on pigeons and planes.
