Trying to do art everyday and going to focus on doing renders of creatures and fauna for my upcoming DnD game that I'll be GMing!
Takes place in a huge ocean, so I get to design so MANY marine critters <3

Forb (Fish Orb) - I just had fun with this one. Fun fact: I used a reference photo for the fish that I took in an aquarium in the local ER. (Everything is fine now.)
My original art made in Procreate. Image description in alt text.

Back in 2005, my sister wanted me to design a small-of-the-back tattoo for her based on the "Arabian dancer" fish from Disney's Fantasia. So, here we go.
I used ink, watercolor, and Prismacolor pencils for this design.

here's something stupid: the catcatfish
some quick facts:
they're nocturnal and tend to roam around while awake.
they have keen senses of smell and hearing, but terrible eyesight. despite this, they also have a tapetum lucidum, making their pupils "glow" in the dark.
their fur is short, dense, and oily to waterproof them.
they prefer a diet of mostly meat and are attracted to strong-smelling food like fish, cheese, and anything fermented.
the elongated dewclaw on each front paw is sharp, flexible, and nonretractable. it injects a venom that causes respiratory failure and cardiac arrest in prey and, in extreme doses, humans. veterenarians typically remove the dewclaw venom glands during the neuter/spay procedure.
they grow to an average of 1m and 23kg (3ft and 50lb) but can reach up to double that length and triple the weight!

Fantasy fauna for today is obligate shoalers! The little fish that form the backbone of so many ecosystem, who form schools in the millions to cruise the sea!
They are important food sources for the wildlife and for the people who call the Ocean of Time their home!
This was a fun study as it gave me a new appreciation for the subtle differences in the body-types of fish <3 Also found a simple way of doing scales which will come in handy!
(Also why do anchovies look so victimized, like you called them a mean name in fish school?)

WIP for my archdruid. A friend of mine is running a level 20 one shot and it’ll be the first time in a long time since I’ve been able to play at that high of a level.
His name is Dirt and he’s a locathah. I took a lot of inspiration from catfish. His backstory is that he grew up in a cult and was spared by the guy who killed his cult leader. After he went on adventures and eventually became an archdruid.

You're drunkenly stumbling home one night and from the duckboards through the booze haze you see the most scrumptious ass teasingly glide away deeper into the dark swamp. You follow, legs getting heavier and orientation more difficult by each step.
How many times that scenario has played out in Ditovo is not easy to calculate but it's likely not zero. The more sober locals will tell you that the slamreta, also known as "harlot of the lake", is not a malicious creature, it wants nothing to do with you in fact. This animal uses inflatable sacs on its hind legs to float on the water's surface perfectly still as it looks for fish or other small things to eat. It hunts using its sharp vision and plunges its long neck to reach prey. It's long tail is curled up to act as a stabilizing anchor. At sign of danger the slamreta can deflate the hind leg sacs to dive and swim away. It spends most of its time in water and will build a nest in-between reeds or other shore vegetation.
