Radley's Monkey Ball theories (1)

[cause i was ranting too much on twitter for this, ALSO NOTE: This post is very long.]

I'm gonna make this first one about uh... F-Gongon. I think one reason why so much worldbuilding was never brought up again (Aside from the gap between Bounce and BBHD) is because SMB wants the doubles to just be costumes. Why though? They have their own lore. And holiday posts don't even use the doubles. They even put Meemee in a witch hat ignoring the fact W-Meemee exists.

I've already rambled before about how the monkeys are not the same as their doubles but in this post I'm highlighting F-Gongon specifically because I think he does this best (And it's also my favorite character). I've been wanting to ramble about it for a really really long time actually.

So F-Gongon. Its lore is that it was awoken within an ancient castle and cannot eat bananas due to his sheer strength, being modified to be stronger than his original iteration.

^^^ Who might I add is already extremely strong on his own what the fuck. I mean. Have you seen him punch away the timebomb in the volcano.

So I'm gonna start off with its castle. The series never specified what castle it got awoken in (implying it had already been in there for who knows how long?) but he could have also been created in there. This could be the Bananightmare castle considering a lot of doubles in 3D seem to have ties with in-game worlds (cough R-Doctor cough P-Yanyan[?]). This is probably the most likely outcome considering if I wanted to stretch it, W-Meemee would have her ties with Sweet Fountain or maybe even Skyopolis but that's like I said, a stretch.

My personal theory is that F-Gongon was awoken in the Clock Tower Factory considering the exterior of the building is castle-like. The entire plot of the factory is that Bad Boon created Aiai robots there to do his bidding. And he's also from the fucking future so yeah I'm pretty sure he has enough mechanical expertise to make a zombie. And logically if he wanted to make a clone to stop Aiai and friends, he should pick Gongon because he is aforementioned extremely fucking powerful. Gongon would have worked as the robots if the end goal was to fight and cause bloodshed, but the Aiai robots were made to stir distrust (which is probably why they got destroyed immediately).

But if there's a castle in Mystic Dome (I don't think so though) he could have been awoken in there too. There's all sorts of ancient computers in Mystic Dome! They're active and they're given life. Nobody knows why, not even the game itself. And his color scheme is lots of blues/grey/green which matches with the area too.

NOT TO MENTION HIS COLORSCHEME MATCHES WELL WITH BAD BOON'S BASE AS WELL! WHICH MIGHT I ADD IS WHERE HE WAS IN A PROMOTIONAL TWEET.

WAIT WHAT THE FUCK I JUST HAD ANOTHER THOUGHT FUCK IS MYSTIC DOME THE REMAINS OF BAD BOON'S BASE-

Okay well I haven't even touched on the bananas thing yet so I should probably get to that. In 3D's description for him, F-Gongon is stated to be so powerful it can't eat bananas. In this description, this is clearly mentioned to be due to physical strength, however, in this tweet, this is implied to be a stomach thing (Which would make sense, why would a mass of electricity and probably rotting flesh be able to digest food).

Though it could also be a mix of both, actually. It's already implied to be hard enough for him to grasp things without crushing or even maybe shocking them, but in the chance F-Gongon could properly grab a banana, will the food even properly settle in its stomach? Maybe he'd get cockroaches festering in its body and need them removed?

This makes me wonder if he could eat the haunted banana. The description for it mentions that it's a ghostly spirit of a banana and that "You'd have to be totally bananas eat it!" (Ik I wrote it like that btw, it literally has that typo in game.) If that banana doesn't have a physical form, maybe he can eat it. And the holy banana's physical form is possibly dubious, considering it is potentially somewhat made of light considering it glows.

It's also worth noting that the entire plot of SMB1 is that Aiai and Gongon are in a race to Banana Sanctuary (A place with bananas). And I don't really see why F-Gongon would want to go there if he can't eat the bananas.

So what's F-Gongon's personality like? The normal Gongon in canon is shown to be a rowdy, hard headed guy who cares deeply for his friends and has a strong self image, wanting to become the strongest monkey in the world.

Though, like all the other doubles, not much is shown with F-Gongon. Although judging by the fact that he's a modified version of an ape who's already extremely strong, I don't think he has any goals it wants to set or follow. There's nothing for him to want to achieve. Normal Gongon is already off working with team Super Monkey Ball and his own aspirations, and why would F-Gongon need to do that? The only thing I could reasonably see it wanting to achieve is 1. Collecting bananas and 2. Thwart Bad Boon's plans.

At first I looked at the mention of him being all about collecting bananas in the promo tweet with the take of "But why would he collect bananas if it can't eat them?" But then I remembered "Hey, he's so different from most monkeys, and they're probably scared of it for being a monster." Maybe he wants to give monkeys bananas as a show of not being threatening? Everyone loves bananas! So if he gave people bananas, they'd want to be its friend!

(Also, back to an earlier point, Banana Sanctuary just has way too many bananas to take home and give to others which is why I didn't bring it up in that segment until now.)

And let's assume for a second that what I said about him being awoken by Bad Boon is correct, I would imagine it'd hold a lot of resentment towards Bad Boon (Who wouldn't, actually?) and probably be very angry that someone like itself has been awoken and set free into the world. That he shouldn't exist considering, well... Normal people don't have bolts in their head and multicolored fur and skin stitched together. He is not normal. He's a freak of nature.

I think that his unlock conditions in both Monkey Race and Monkey fight could also lure a bit into a sensible personality for him:

In Monkey Race, it is unlocked by getting 3rd place in the Mt. Tyrano grand prix. This is the lowest score for any character unlocked here, while P-Yanyan requires 2nd and B-Jet requires 1st. The track itself is a vast, rugged mountain with lots of spots to fall lose yourself in. Good for any explorer monkeys looking for treasure, or in B-Jet's case, a place to roam around with the rest of the tribe. In Monkey Fight, he's simply unlocked with beating the Hidden series in 1st place.

This combined with the unlock conditions of Monkey Race and the small tidbits we get from his lore make me theorize that F-Gongon is a gentle giant with no life goals who relatively tries to hide from the world due to a poor self image. It does genuinely want to have a few close friends and to be accepted for what he is but still can't help but hold resentment and frustration towards most everything and everybody around it.

(Don't ask about Monkey Race karts at the time being though I have no idea where they'd fall if they even did.)

Just as a little bonus: I have been using He/It this entire time for it! I personally view that as a headcanon though I do have a reason why I have that view. He has been called both He/Him in game + on promotional posts, but has also been called with It/Its in a translation of another post.

It was probably just a coincidence but I really love it lawl

But that's about it for my theory. This was fun to do and I always have lots of thoughts about this series so I'm hoping to do more theorizing later!

(Also help I not only 1. spent an hour on this post but 2. have just began thinking about how he ties more into my oc's lore because its important to her story lawl)

AiAi— she has a MASSIVE crush on him, but doesn't want to tell anyone except those she trusts the most. She's aware he's married but that doesn't stop her from wanting to get him to like her more

MeeMee— one of the nicest people she knows, if she were to seek mental health advice she would go to her. If only she could swallow her pride...

Baby— she kinda feels pretty neutral about him. He's only a baby, after all.

GonGon—one of the strongest people she knows. Although she doesn't like to show it, she actually feels somewhat nervous around him when he's enraged (not that he's ever done anything to harm her however).

YanYan— the MOST ANNOYING person in her life. She cannot stop bothering her. Constantly begging to be one of her guards, always trying to hug her (she doesn't like being touched unless it's with certain people), even if she visits just to hang out its always a nightmare for the otherworldly princess. Her presence alone is enough to annoy the hell put of her.

Doctor— the smartest person she knows. In fact, she might actually be a bit jealous of him for his high intelligence.

Jam— she often finds herself laughing at his stunts. Not that she hates him though, she actually find him hilarious (although she's too insecure to admit that)

Jet— she heard that he also loves bananas, just like AiAi, so she'll tease him about it (which pisses him off)

C-AiAi— she can't decide between him or the other AiAi, the main difference is that one seems more serious and level-headed than the other one

W-MeeMee— sometimes hangs out with her but finds her to be a bit... weird. Her love for rats (one of her biggest fears) as well as all the spiderwebs throughout her home and the spiders she likes to snack on (who does that anyway?!)

A-Baby— doesn't know much about him, or where he even comes from.

F-GonGon— thinks he's just as weird as W-MeeMee, but in terms of appearance. Being GonGon's double, she can be a bit intimidated by him but only if he's furious enough. Otherwise, she'll tease him and even rile him up.

She LOVES herself... or at least that's what everyone thinks. There's actually some characteristics of hers that she hates about herself (ie not being very smart, actually being clumsy, as well as many other insecurities). However, she tries to hide it by acting super confident (sometimes too confident)

R-Doctor— she... doesn't quite understand its purpose. Was it created for attacking? Or just space exploration? Who knows.

N-Jam— she actually finds him pretty funny. He'll try to be as sneaky as possible, but to her he's always in plain sight.

B-Jet— she's one of the monkeys who misunderstands him. She sees hom as destructive and dangerous, even though he's actually clumsy

Ok ok, I know I asked a similar question with F-GonGon, but how does Kenrai feel about the doubles (and if you want the other monkeys as well)?

Ooh! Don't worry about it! I'm really excited to get any question :>

C-Aiai: They have never met. C-Aiai vaguely knows who she is from Aiai and F-Gongon.

W-Meemee: Best friends! And roommates! W-Meemee used magic to make her about 5'4 since she was about normal figurine size for the past 100 years.

A-Baby: Has seen him around. Has seen how F-Gongon reacts to them. Wants to befriend him.

F-Gongon: Oh, they go so, so far back... and it's not a pretty sight. Things used to be quite nice, but what good would she get out remaining friends with the man that killed her all those years ago? It doesn't remember that. Or most of its past. That's fun. That's cute. She loves messing with him too much. He's confused by her and quite frankly terrified of her. "Remind me why you brought her again?"

P-Yanyan: Would be similar with A-Baby but the princess thinks Kenrai is a freak as well and gets picked on as well. She doesn't really have the energy to care re: see above entry.

R-Doctor: She's curious how they work but that's as far as it goes.

N-Jam: They stay out of each other's paths. She thinks he's stupid.

B-Jet: Doesn't think about him much but he's very intrigued by her and wants to get to know her better. Why was this monkey with a broken face in Mt. Tyrano? Why was she hiding behind a rock staring at the disheveled ape with the bolt in his head? Who even knows.

Aiai: She knows he's afraid of ghosts. She talks to him similarly to how she does F-Gongon but with the intention of seeing his pathetic little face freak out and try to be nice (/affectionate) rather than deep-seething hatred she carries to her former friend.

Meemee: They're on good footing. Meemee tends to invite her over when Aiai is out somewhere else.

Baby: She's actually never met Baby but he's seen her talking with Meemee and is so curious as to why she's Like That.

Gongon: Oh, a descendant of it? She inherently doesn't like him and will usually go out of her way to not talk to him. At least he's protecting people, unlike someone.

Yanyan: Is very motherly towards her but in reality can't handle her that well. "Come back with some extra cash and maybe I'll consider making you one of those 'Scene cork' outfits you keep rambling on about. But shoo, I'm trying to listen to this 2010s music imagining the downfall of F-Gongon ok bye sweetie."

Doctor: She doesn't understand him. And doesn't really care. Has probably stalked him before.

Jam: Get this man away from her too.

Jet: Has never met :(

ok i meant to ask last night but i forgot, what do *you* think the personality differences are with the doubles and their originals/how they itneract

AiAi being the more carefree one, but C-AiAi is the more serious one between the two. Shaking his head over AiAi obsessing over bananas more than MeeMee even.

W-MeeMee would be more into creepy stuff like spiders, she LOVES them! MeeMee, not so much. She'd be disgusted seeing W-MeeMee snacking on some spiders, but not at a point to where she doesn't like her, though.

A-Baby is kind of a mystery, no one really knows where he came from other than not on this planet. Baby especially would be curious over him.

GonGon would be very jealous of F-GonGon and how much stronger he is. Why would there need to be someone stronger than him, he thinks. F-GonGon is actually pretty nice to others (not that GonGon isn't nice though).

P-YanYan is very cocky, sometimes too much to a point where it ends bad for her. She's also not as sweet as YanYan herself, nor does she cry as easily as she. YanYan would always try to be nice and affectionate towards her, giving out hugs but she probably doesn't realize her otherworldly double doesn't like physical affection, unless it's from... certain people (AiAi)

Doctor actually finds it fascinating that there are robot versions of himself. Though they may have been invented to attack rather than to build anything, Doctor has actually taken one apart to learn how these were put together.

N-Jam is about as silly as the other Jam, but tries not to show it, being a ninja. He'd watch Jam fail a stunt so he'd try doing it himself to "prove" he was better than him but fails in almost the same way. He's almost like P-YanYan, minus the bitterness around other people and the stubbornness.

B-Jet might actually be a bit jealous of the other Jet, being the more clumsy one. Someday he wants to prove he's not dangerous, he's just clumsy. Jet would be shaking his head at him, not that he hates him however.

aiai's favorite food seconding bananas is ice cream, you'll never guess his favorite ice cream flavor (or anything flavor). milkshakes r his fav drink and meeemee makes them a lot.

meemee loves sunflower seeds and any kind of nut. a little quirk she has is getting ice cream just to melt it since that's technically her fav drink. strawberry is her fav flavor.

baby will eat anything ground up or easy to chew/swallow really. he doesn't have a lot of teeth so it's hard to eat lots of things. he'll drink most anything though

gongon will slam back burgers like it's nothing and wash it down with an energy drink. i think he's rubbed his ability to eat in f-gongon's face multiple times before. but he can slam back more than just b*gongon punches me into the stratosphere*

yanyan loves cotton candy the most but hella sweets in general, it's common knowledge to keep him out of sweet fountain at all times or she starts killing people /hj ref and her fav drinks are concoctions made with fast food drink fountains.

doctor feels very nostalgic for ice cream sandwiches but he can't place why. he can't go wrong with simple water.

jam also loves spicy stuff but not to the extent n-jam does. he hasn't eaten/drank it in forever though cause it makes him too nostalgic

jet likes anything with tuna in it and enjoys a simple cup of tea.

C-AiAi would be just like the other AiAi when it comes to food (in other words he'd love anything with bananas) also I think whiskey would be his favorite (although he does have to drink responsibly since he's the captain)

W-MeeMee might actually love spiders to snack on, also I think her favorite drink would be coffee :3

A-Baby? Probably banana milk for a drink tbh (and food I think)

F-GonGon of course can't really eat much of anything (although does he even have to eat I think he just runs off of electricity)

P-YanYan loves anything fancy, she probably wouldn't have much of a preference honestly as long as it isn't too sweet or spicy (also I think her favorite would be nitro pepsi)

R-Doctor obviously can't eat anything since it's a robot (although it might drink battery acid if it could)

N-Jam (and I know this might sound somewhat stereotypical but) I think his favorite would be sushi. Also Green tea

B-Jet (like you said) would love anything with meat in it, also water

(And as a bonus I'll add the other monkeys' favorites)

AiAi's is fairly obvious, he loves bananas so anything with bananas in it he loves, also any drink that's banana flavored

MeeMee's favorite would be any kind of cake with frosting on it, also chocolate milk

I think Baby would take after his dad, sooooo bananas :3 (also milk)

GonGon loves anything meaty, preferably beef (also I think he'd live any kind of soda but mostly coke)

YanYan loves candy, if she had her way she could basically live off of it. Also Kool-aid

Doctor's favorite would be diet coke. He wouldn't have a preference for any food as long as it's not garbage (and the flavor isn't too strong)

Jam's favorite would be anything with plenty of things lime protein and vitamins (in fact he'd probably be the kind of person who'd buy protein powders and whatnot). Also his favorite drink would be gatorade

I think Jet's would be Ramen, honestly. Also probably water
