Trekking Peninsula Mitre [460km, 60-days] Day 21 (187km from Ushuaia): Arrived here with 2 hours of light left and had just over 2km to go down to Puerto Español. Problem was that most of that was dense forest which was already dark, so trying to do it after sunset was not an option. I found a spot sheltered by some thick shrubs from the wind, on the turba (bog) which meant I also had access to water. The next morning (when this photo was taken), I headed down. It took me over 3 hours just to get to the forest and then still had to cross the Rio Bonpland. Trekking Peninsula Mitre was never going to physically easy but the one requirement (especially if doing it solo) is that you’re comfortable with yourself. Daily physical and mental challenges take their toll and if you’re not comfortable with yourself, you will literally lose your mind! Keeping your own morale high can be challenging too of course. Over the years though I’ve learnt to stop and enjoy something beautiful, like this stream descending in almost a forest tunnel. These are my “fuel up” stops, and sometimes even stopping for the day.
