I love Elouisa. Her boundless curiosity. Her mind so open. Her dogged commitment to finding the Truth. What a joy it is to see you again!

A fun thing with drawing the characters is that you notice things in their design you don’t otherwise. I never noticed all the patterns on Elouisa’s jacket until I’d committed myself to drawing them, for example. And also I’d not noticed that she wears her hair very similar to how Reth does - in sort of bundles/multiple ponytails with a low tie, over a headband. She just ties it more loosely than he does and with just one tie at the bottom.

Working on my Jel fic has led to the following headcanon:

Is a big hugger: Reth, Nai'o, Tish, Jina, Kenli, Auni, Delaila

Puts their hand on your shoulder when they want to tell you something Important: Hassian, Sifuu, Ashura, Hodari, Budruu

Will not initiate touch, but will accept it under the right circumstances: Eshe, Caleri, Kenyatta, Elouisa, Najuma, Hekla

Vibe checks you before deciding if they're gonna touch you in any way: Einar, Tamala, Zeki (all for wildly different reasons)

I think Jel's hang-up on touch was baked into him by being essentially Majiri nobility. He secretly craves physical affection, but he feels very Wrong about this and that's why he has those little mental hurdles to jump over before he'll be physically affectionate with you in any way.

Chayne gets his own section because he is also a big hugger but his hugs specifically give you the "unconditional acceptance" vibe.

Auni: I love this kid. I want him to think of me as a cool older sister or cool aunt. I bring him bugs every chance I get

Najuma: I also want to be the cool older sister and/or cool aunt that she never had. This kid is a badass and smart as hell. I wish my friendship with her was better already

Reth: This man. I love him. I'm not sure if it's platonic or romantic yet. All I know is he's one of my favourite NPCs to talk to. He's funny, he's flirty, he's got a Tragic Backstory™️. I'm here for this soup boi whether he wants it or not

Sifuu: Two words: Bad. Ass. It's a crime that we can't romance her. I really want to ask her to be my Shepp, but I'm not sure it's a good fit

Tamala: I'm sorry, Tamala besties, but I just don't like her 😭 I really wanted to like her so bad, but her aggressive flirting paired with her unwillingness to consider me a friend/equal just rubs me the wrong way

Tish: Absolutely beautiful person. I want to be her bffl. That is all

Zeki: Crime Cat, my beloved. He is the most entertaining Shepp option (imo). He's got an eye patch, a gold tooth, and shady practices. I find him amusing. I want him to like me. Share his (dubiously acquired) riches with me. Please accept me into the black market. I won't tell, but I can't promise I'll participate (I probably will 👀)
