Mother nature is intriguing, and watching this little mini mammoth at play, provided me with another lesson in just how cute all youngsters are, how complex behaviour and physiology is.

Observing this little girl, at a few weeks old, already mimicking her mother’s feeding behaviour, using her trunk to pluck vegetation, learning through observation; nurtured and acquired knowledge.

Her large ears are flared wide with excitement, instinctive and natural behaviour!

Elephant ears are fascinating. It is often incorrectly believed that when an Elephant flares or flaps its ears, it is agitated, displaying aggression, this is not always the case, they often flare their ears for other reasons, including excitement in situations such as play, greeting and when approaching a waterhole, which is a wild and enthusiastic scene with loud trumpeting, charging and filled with exuberance.

Elephants essentially most often fan, flare and wave their ears to cool themselves down, acting as giant fans. Ears are filled with a network of veins and by spreading them in the breeze, or splashing them with cool water, helps with lowering body temperature.

🙈😱🤣 So this is not Kruger but we kind of had to share this hilarious / unfortunate image by @jens_cullmann taken in Mana Pools!! Poor little guy...! Elephants are intelligent and learn from their surroundings just like humans do. Calves will copy the activities of the adult herd members and play with each other. Branches and rocks become toys to learn from and, of course, drinking time means playing and splashing in a waterhole or river (but with adults nearby in case of crocs). #Elephants, especially #calves, enjoy playing in #water and hence love #bathing. An #adorablevideo of an #elephantcalf playing in a tub filled with water has surfaced on the internet and it is just so #cute. Simon BRFC Hopkins tweeted the video hours ago and the internet is delighted to watch it. The elephant calf along with his mother took a bath as their keeper sprayed water from a pipe to rid them of the dirt from their body. However, the calf was more interested in the tub filled with water, kept in the vicinity. It walked towards the tub and stepped inside it. It was all fun and joy for the elephant calf after that. He waded in the water and enjoyed every moment playing in the tub. "Bath time," is the caption of the post.
