Three antique pendants, c. 1905. These pendants are very British, as seed pearl jewellery of this kind was exceedingly popular in Edwardian era Britain (1901-10). Mounted in yellow gold and often accentuated by coloured gemstones that were then considered ‘semi-precious’, this type of jewellery could have been worn for informal affairs during the day. Antique Georgian Pearl Diamond Heart Pendant
A rare find, this wonderfully crafted antique Georgian pendant has woven natural seed pearls into a heart shape with a sparkling center diamond. The diamond is set in sterling silver with even the bale of the heart having a woven loop. All layers are woven and stitched to mother-of-pearl back in which small holes were drilled for the thread to pass and fasten the ornament securely. All this is handwork done pearl by pearl, which makes it more the treasure! Very hard to find woven pearl jewelry retaining all the pearls and threading secure. https://boylerpf.com/products/antique-georgian-seed-pearl-diamond-heart-pendant

Edwardian Demantoid Garnet & Diamond Bar Brooch
Tumblr media
Exceptional antique bar brooch with five vivid green garnets in crown-like prong settings raised over an old cut diamond-studded bar. Crafted in 15 karat yellow gold with the finest millegrain platinum edging and settings, the diamonds graduating in size towards the central 1.33ct green garnet. The quality of craftsman ship, and of course quality of the stones (it's rare to come across such a large demantoid garnet), is fantastic, and it looks excellent worn vertically on a pendant chain.

Here's a beauty we helped to revitalize. We supplied set a new Ceylon sapphire, which is one of the nicest I've seen in a while. Check out the second photo for the abraded gem that was originally set in the ring. Can you guess what the old stone was? Hint: not a sapphire! . . . . . . #aurumjewelers #buffalojewelryrepair #jewelryrepair #ringrepair #sapphire #ceylon #ceylonsapphire #edwardian #edwardianring #edwardianjewelry #sapphirering #sapphireengagementring #antiquejewelry #vintagejewelry #buffalove (at Aurum Jewelers) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfXEwSquoi2/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Vesta cases, also known as match safes, were made to safely carry a person's supply of matches. Early matches were prone to combustion, either from the friction of rubbing together or spontaneous ignition. These cases came into fashion around the 1830s but, their popularity peaked from about 1890 to 1920. The ridged area at the bottom serves to light the match This early Edwardian example is beautifully engraved with floral scrolls. Hang it on a long chain around your neck and use it as originally intended or to carry other precious cargo. Opal Stone
Opals have been compared to fireworks, galaxies and even volcanoes. With their beautiful array of colours, I can see why. In Ancient Rome, it was given the name 'Opalus' , meaning 'precious stone'. Opals were seen to be more rare than diamonds or rubies due to their flashes of light and colour, as they were known to be the stone of myths and dreams.
Many different cultures believed the stone brought power, luck and health and even today, this belief still remains.

Stunning antique opal five-stone ring dating from the early 20th century, circa 1910. The stones are bright and lively with excellent play-of-colour that appears to dance as it moves in the light - the full rainbow colour spectrum on display. It's crafted in 18 karat gold with fine claw settings and a fluted gallery.

So what does it mean if someone gifts you an opal ?
Because of stone's connection with the star sign Libra, it is often related to feelings of passion, love and desire.
