WEEK 11 - POSTMODERNISM

The discussion on Postmodernism was quite fascinating, especially when we engaged in a class activity to create a postmodernist poster for a product we had photographed during the session. Postmodernism challenges traditional design and art norms by encouraging re-imagining, blending high and low art forms, and prompting the audience to question the status quo. In contrast to last week's focus on post-structuralism, where we explored decontextualization and connections between two images, this activity involved capturing a JBL headphone and producing two distinct outcomes that incorporated typography, fragmentation, plurality, and distortion.

In my poster on the righr, I utilized a rough outline of the headphone, enlarged and layered it with different colors, ensuring bold and visible typography placed beneath a blend mode of the same phrase. On the other hand, Doyeon's poster adopted an experimental and distorted approach, playing with type placement and color selection. While our posters followed different creative paths, a combination of Doyeon's vibrant colors and distorted imagery with my repetitive and fragmented design could result in a more impactful outcome. I believe that applying a postmodernist approach in various contexts, such as crafts or studio work, could yield interesting results. I see the potential benefits of incorporating such an approach in my website design projects at the studio, as it would help in curating information effectively and creating a user-friendly interface. A striking and fragmented landing page could pique the interest of visitors and encourage them to explore further content on the website.

Moon Soojin nasceu em uma sexta-feira 13 de 1999, coincidentemente sendo a primogênita da união entre um curandeiro e uma feiticeira. A garota, ao longo de sua infância, teve uma vida cercada de amor e todos os feitiços imagináveis e inimagináveis. Sempre que ficava doente, seu pai preparava algo para si, e sempre que precisava se proteger de maus olhados sua mãe fazia um feitiço. Soojin cresceu assim, cercada da magia que sua família trazia para si e sempre admirando seus pais mais do que qualquer pessoa no mundo. Não que conhecesse muito do mundo, já que sempre viveu em Manyeo, assim como as famílias de sua mãe e seu pai. A garota sempre ouvia os contos de sua mãe, como as mulheres da família sofreram no passado e como ela precisava aprender mais sobre feitiços, poções, magias e rituais para proteger o legado de suas ancestrais. Já seu pai, não concordava com a progenitora de Soojin, ele achava que ela deveria honrar a família paterna e se tornar uma curandeira.

Soojin sempre esteve no meio dessa encruzilhada, mas amava seus pais mais do que tudo e isso não realmente a incomodava. Quando a mãe de Soojin adoeceu, nem mesmo as ervas e as poções de seu pai a impediam de sofrer. A mulher ficava cada vez mais doente, e sua morte só era mais adiada com todos os cuidados do pai de Soojin. Após implorar tantas vezes para descansar em paz, a mulher faleceu e deixou para trás Soojin e seu pai, totalmente perdidos sem sua presença por ali. Soojin tinha a presença de sua prima para lhe acalentar e aquecer seu coração durante aquele período de luto, ambas perderam suas mães e suas próprias companhias eram a melhor coisa uma para a outra.

No entanto, decidido a acelerar o processo de luto de sua filha, o pai de Soojin fez com que eles viajassem para longe de Manyeo, para que a garota pudesse conhecer novos ares, novas pessoas e ter um recomeço longe de todo aquele sufoco que a lembrava sua mãe a cada esquina. Mesmo depois de 5 anos no Canadá, Soojin não conseguia confortar seu coração longe da essência de sua família. Algo dentro de si clamava para que ela voltasse ao lugar em que nutriu tantas lembranças gostosas. Em pouco tempo, Soojin e seu pai voltaram para Manyeo, e a garota estava mais do que determinada a estudar mais sobre seus ancestrais e descobrir todos os segredos e mistérios guardados naquele lugar tão especial para si.
