Calling all blue heeler owners (or just dog owners in general)!!!!
How the actual fuck do y’all manage the shedding, bc my guy is the worst shedder I’ve seen and is even worse now that it’s springtime. I woulda never guessed it’d be so bad bc he’s a short haired dog but I was not prepared for the double coat. I’ve gotta say, my parents have a Great Pyrenees and my dog sheds WORSE than him
And I’m trying EVERYTHING! I vacuum almost daily which includes vacuuming the furniture bc it gets stuck so bad. I even bought a mini hand held vacuum for furniture and my car but it doesn’t matter bc 5 seconds later, it’s covered in fur again. I brush him almost daily and every time it’s like shearing a sheep, even after 30 min brushing sessions, it just keeps coming. I have a million lint rollers not just for myself but for the furniture multiple times a day AND I have lint roll him too to get the excess off but it still doesn’t help much. He also has a salmon diet which is supposed to be for a healthy coat in general but I’ve also heard fish oils and fatty acids help shedding too but it’s not 🥲.
So that being said, any advice? Bc fuck, the hair is literally everywhere all the time. And like I said, now that it’s spring and getting hot, chunks fall out

Is it too late at night/early in the morning to see if any dogblr people are browsing the tag and know of fun rip apart toys for dogs that are very very good at ripping things apart in under a minute. I enjoy giving her things to rip because it's such good enrichment for her, but some stuff is just way too fragile. Preferably not full of stuffing. She doesn't eat it luckily but it's a pain to clean lol.

My dog only ever does (playfully) bite me when I'm wearing my pajamas or pants. She literally cannot distinguish the fact that it is my legs she is biting (pretty sure she thinks it's a pillow) when it's covered in clothing. It doesn't hurt much but it does wear down my clothes. Thinking of getting a water spray bottle to teach her to stop doing that

I need advice on dog training.
I adopted a 3-5 year old chihuahua mix from a shelter a few months back. He's not potty trained very well and refuses to poop outside. I try taking him from walks, but he won't even move half the time. I end up carrying him around and periodically setting him down to see if he'll go. He has an autoimmune disease that was really bad and untreated in the past, so his paws are sensitive and fragile, I put him in shoes, but that doesn't seem to help. I've only just got him to the point where he doesn't freak out when I leave him home when I go to work, but he will not let me keep him in the kennel while I'm at work. He scratches at it and rips his paws, and gets blood everywhere (not to mention the vet expense of getting him put on antibiotics to make sure they don't get infected). So I give him free rein of the apartment while I'm gone. So naturally, he pees and poops everywhere. I have a carpet cleaner, but I can still smell it (any advice on getting the smell out of carpet would be greatly appreciated, too). I have no idea what to do with him. I can't train him to go potty if he won't even walk outside, I can't crate train him so he can't go potty in the house because he hurts himself. My apartment manager made it super hard to get him in the first place and is super strict about pets, so having puppy pads all over isn't really an option either. I'm stuck in this shitty loop of trying to train him and getting frustrated, giving up, and contemplating returning him to the shelter because it's causing me so much stress. I love him so much, but he's making it impossible. I need advice. Please help.

People of Tumblr, I need your help! I mentioned the other day that my dog had a little procedure. It's left her with three stitches over a sizeable incision.
The problem is, it's on her neck, in a place where a cone would do as much damage as help. She can't get at it to lick it, but she can scratch it and has been trying to. Right now, the only thing stopping her is me telling her no whenever she tries. But I can't have my eyes on her every single second.
The vet suggested cutting up an old t-shirt to make her a scarf. So I cut off a sleeve from a large shirt. It fit over her neck but slipped down a lot. I tried to secure it (to itself, not to her) with a few different things (bobby pins, etc) but one good shake, and it was gone. So then I tried cutting a much bigger loop out of the t-shirt, so that I could knot it and the same thing happened, one or two good shakes and it slipped down her neck.
I'm kind of at my wits end here. She doesn't get the stitches out for two weeks and I'm going to have to leave my house eventually. Does anyone have any ideas???

Do you know how to tell if your dog is having muscle pain in their back?
- I’m not a vet, so feel free to chime in if you are a vet or tech
If you lightly run your hand along their back, do any spots feel particularly hot?
If you add a little more pressure and rub your hand or fingers down their back do you notice any areas that twitch?
If you gently grab one fold of their skin at a time along their back do you see any big twitches? It could just be a reflex but are the twitches still there after you massage their back for a while?
When you massage their back do they push all of their body weight into your hand to try to get a harder massage. Not in the way a dog would typically “ask” for pets but as in they are actively pressing a part of their back hard against your hand?
We’ve spent the last year rehabilitating my dogs back pain and these are some things we were instructed to do by the chiropractor and vet to check for soreness. I just posted an updated list of the things we did to rehabilitate her but the conclusion has been that .5 mg of Low Dose Naltrexone twice a day has been the most effective treatment.

So! Just to give you a brief sneak peak into my life. My dogs woke me up at around 2:45 in the morning (or at night, depends on your point of view) and at first I told them to let me sleep but they didn't lie down and kept running around. So I got up, went to the living room and I saw one of them killed a mouse, that probably got onto balcony, and placed it chewed but not half eaten on their living room dog bed.
I keep my balcony door and windows open these days at night as it's hot outside during the day and nights are the only time I can air the apartment. I guess a mouse came to the balcony and one of my dogs, I suspect Dachi, killed it.
So around 3 am I have disposed the dead body and gave both of them teeth cleaning dog treat. I seriously hope it was Dachi who killed and chewed the mouse because when I was still in bed, Easy licked my cheek. 😬
I have changed the dog bed cover (it's actually a thin mattress so it's similar to changing bed sheets) and around 3:45 am I went for a dog walk because there was no chance they would go back to sleep at that time.
Yesterday afternoon I had to change the dog bed cover, too. Dachi puked on it.
So yeah! While I love Easy and Dachi to the bone, it's important to remember, they are living animals, not plushies and as such, they come with a lot of responsibility and, yes, also with a lot of disgusting little incidents. If you want to have a dog (or any pet, to be frank), please, make sure you are ready to deal with the less sparkly aspects of keeping a pet. Dachi killed a mouse today and about a month ago he managed to kill a pigeon when we were on a walk. Both of them do throw up from time to time (they lick themselves and swallow hairs which might make them puke, it's not a health condition). I have hairs everywhere. Like EVERYWHERE! They hate being bathed and when it's muddy outside, they will bring it inside. Having a dog isn't all fun and games. It's responsibility, getting up at 2 am to clean dead mice, dealing with fur and more.
IT'S WORTH IT! IT TRULY IS BECAUSE YOUR DOG IS SOMEONE WHO LOVES YOU UNCONDITIONALLY FOR REAL. MANY PEOPLE WILL TELL YOU THEY LOVE YOU UNCONDITIONALLY BUT IT'S A LIE. WITH DOGS IT'S 100% TRUE. THE OLDER, FATTER, UGLIER YOU GET, THE MORE YOUR DOG LOVES YOU BECAUSE YOU SPEND TIME TOGETHER AND THAT'S WHAT MATTERS FOR THEM. THEY DON'T CARE IF YOU ARE PRETTY OR NOT. THEY DON'T JUDGE YOUR DECISSIONS, HOBBIES, CHOICES. THEY LOVE YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE THEIR HUMAN AND THAT'S ENOUGH OF A REASON FOR A DOG.
If you have a dog, give love back and take a good care of them not based on what commercials say but what's genuinely good for them being the descendants of wolves. If you don't have a dog, consider adopting one from the many shelters or private organizations. Save their lives as there are many countries with kill shelters where dogs are murdered when nobody claims them in certain time. Czech Republic doesn't have kill shelters, just for your information and we have a well running sterilization programs and initiatives for dogs and cats. That's why many activists from Czech actually take dogs from abroad to save their lives. This is how you can tell a nation is truly a developed one - when compassion includes human's best friends, too.
Sorry for the moral message at the end. But you know I love dogs. 😊😇

My 9 month old service dog was doing absolutely fantastic in training. I have DID which comes with CPTSD, fainting episodes/dissociation episodes/dissociative seizures and he has training to handle all of it. Now, he is also trained in personal protection and we are competing to get him titled in November, so he is trained to bite and has a good moral compass. We were recently on a trip where a very large man saw my self harm scars and wanted to touch them “feel the texture” and said extremely creepy things and refused to get away from us even when I asked like it was some sort of fetish. He ended up reaching to grab me, and my SD (Ekko) lunged to bite him. I caught his vest and collar in time so he was just swimming mid air trying to get to this guy. (This happened 3 times on that vacation) Ever since then he is extremely nervous in public, very cautious of everyone and jumps at loud sounds. I don’t want all the trading we did to go down the drain is there ANY way to desensitize him again?

Dog advice needed
I have a 3 year old American bully/ bull mastiff mix. I've never had problems with his behavior outside of separation anxiety in the year and a half that I've owned him. Over the past few weeks, he's stopped listening, started tearing things up, and also started using the bathroom in the house despite going on multiple walks a day. Has anyone else experienced this before? Any advice on what I can do?
