At long last, the toy I have wanted since the early 1980's. Grateful thanks to Mark Harris, original author of "The Doctor Who Technical Manual," Severn House Publishers, Ltd., 1983.

Day 12: Colonel (soon to be promoted to Brigadier) Lethbridge-Stewart drops in for an unannounced inspection of the nearly-completed project. Base piece is properly mitered, sanded, and painted to match the rest of the structure. Sounds and lights are all at last working correctly; just need to close up one last quarter-roof panel and we'll be ready to start journeying through all of time and space!

The lettering on the "Pull To Open" telephone sign is still not quite up to Gilbert MacKenzie Trench 1929 standards, but Five has nevertheless pronounced the overall structure "good enough," and breaks out the paintbrush. If anyone asks, the Hex colour code is 374F6B. There. That's a thing you know, now.

Day 10: Four, K-9, and Romana have just about finished painting, and with a minimum of squabbling, miraculously! That's not to say that Romana and K-9 didn't have at least 30 arguments (cited, indexed, and cross-referenced) immediately at the ready to explain to Four exactly where all of his errors are.

Day 8: Six has at last sorted out the ongoing lighting problem. The illuminated parts of the model will not only include the topmost beacon, but also all four "Public Call" signs. Feeling an inordinate sense of smugness at having figured this one out.

Day 11: Three and Jo have solved a long-standing sound effect problem: a revamped "Pull To Open" sign will actually BE the button that activates the two alternating sound effects (dematerialization and materialization). Of course the Master had to turn up halfway through --he gets jealous if he's left out for too many episodes...

Day 7: Ace came up with the hardware necessary for generating proper sound effects --a chip will eventually contain TWO extremely specific audio files. I'm not sure exactly what The Professor is suspended from, but he did password-protect it with a heavily Scottish-accented voice command. Probably won't be a problem, later...

My late summer/early fall wasn't good to me, health-wise, so I immersed myself in a bit of a project. Here's how I'm celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the 20th Anniversary of Doctor Who: by breaking out the old circa-1983-ish "Doctor Who Technical Manual" and seeing if the plans/instructions on pp. 60-62 are still useful. Day 1: Thirteen starts in by cutting the appropriate 4 walls and a floor piece.

Day 3: River Song shows up to help out; clear plastic lighting and some extremely monotonous drilling-of-holes. Also pilfered some hinges from an old jewelry box --actual working hinges mean that this is finally going to be the toy TARDIS I have truly wanted, since at least 1980.

Day 2: Twelve takes a moment between guitar sessions and grumpily sands down the paneling.
