Conan Puzzle Voice Line Translations
The Conan Puzzle Match-3 gacha game has a number of voiced lines associated with its character cards. Most of these lines are anime lines or same-y game-related phrases, but there were a handful I thought were fun out of context too. I've translated them here.
[Best Friends Since Childhood] Morofushi Hiromitsu & Furuya Rei
Tumblr media
Special Voice 1
Hiro: Woah, Zero! You sure know your way around a knife now!
Furuya: It's all thanks to you, Hiro- ow!
Hiro: That's no good. You need to curl your left hand like a cat's paw when you're cutting. You'll struggle if you ever work part-time at a café or anything if you don't fix that.
Furuya: Don't worry. I'll never work part-time at a café.
Hiro: Huh? But you might need to for an undercover assignment or-
Furuya: (stubborn, sing-songy) I definitely won't ever work at a café!
[T/N: "Curling your left hand like a cat's paw" is a common Japanese saying for how to hold your non-dominant hand when cutting vegetables.]
Special Voice 2
Furuya: Hiro! Where are you going?
Hiro: Matsuda asked me to go shopping.
Furuya: Shopping?
Hiro: He asked for a DVD called Steamy XXX Hot Springs Vacation. He said the clerk would give it to me if I told them the name. I wonder if it's a travel documentary?
Furuya: M-Matsuda, that bastard...
[A Mission They Can't Escape] Matsuda Jinpei & Furuya Rei
Tumblr media
Special Voice 1
Furuya: Matsuda! Fix my alarm clock, would you?
Matsuda: Why?
Furuya: It rings an entire thirty minutes later than I set it to. That means I'm late waking you all up as well...
Matsuda: Isn't that a good thing? It means we can sleep in thirty minutes longer.
Furuya: Matsuda... don't tell me you were the one to break my clock...
Matsuda: *innocent whistling*
Special Voice 2
Matsuda: Zero! You call Morofushi "Hiro", yeah?
Furuya: Yes. We're childhood friends, after all.
Matsuda: Gimme a nickname too. Something cool like "Hiro" or "Zero".
Furuya: Hm, I wonder... what about "Ero"?
Matsuda: E-Ero?
Furuya: Don't you like it? It rhymes with Hiro and Zero too.
Matsuda: Please just stick with Matsuda.
[T/N: In case you're unaware, "ero" means perverted in Japanese.]
[Aiming To Become a Police Officer] Date Wataru & Furuya Rei
Tumblr media
Special Voice 1
Furuya: Leader, I'm sure you know this already, but don't tell anyone I'm in Public Safety.
Date: Yeah. I'm telling anyone who asks that I dunno what you're doing or where.
Furuya: Thank you, leader. I'm currently infiltrating an extremely dangerous organization, after all.
Date: But still, drop me a line sometime, yeah? Only seeing you when we pay our respects to graves is kinda, y'know.
Furuya: Understood. Now then, I'll be seeing you next when we go pay our respects next year.
Date: Hey hey hey.
Special Voice 2
Furuya: Everyone was so shocked to learn you have a girlfriend.
Date: This again? You guys are way too shocked about this!
Furuya: Well, I thought it wouldn't be strange if you had a girlfriend.
Date: No, I'm pretty sure you were really shocked too.
[Childhood Friends Who Know Each Other Inside And Out] Matsuda Jinpei & Hagiwara Kenji
Tumblr media
Special Voice 1
Hagiwara: Jinpei-chan!
Matsuda: What's up, Hagi?
Hagiwara: I'm going out on a blind group date again, but we don't have enough guys... lemme count on you again!
Matsuda: Don't wanna. You'll just take all the girls for yourself even if I go.
Hagiwara: I see... I guess I won't be showing you this video of my sister waking up in bed then...
Matsuda: That group date. Where, what date, and what time might it be? Kenji-kun.
Special Video 2
Hagiwara: Woaaaah, Jinpei-chan. You've sure got a lot disassembled here.
Matsuda: Hell yeah. It's super fun.
Hagiwara: It looks like a car, but... what are you planning to do to it?
Matsuda: I'm gonna give it gull-wing doors like a plane. Since he was going on about the Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter jet and all.
Hagiwara: W-Wait, this car- don't tell me-
Matsuda: It's our demon instructor's RX-7!
[T/N: Gull-wing doors are doors that are hinged at the roof rather than the side (per Wikipedia)]
[A Dramatic Escape By The Skin Of Their Teeth] Hattori Heiji & Edogawa Conan
Tumblr media
Special Voice 1
Hattori: This puzzle game sure is fun!
Conan: So, Hattori? What did you actually come here to do?
Hattori: Like I said, ta visit ya!
Conan: Huh? Just for that for real?
Hattori: Why not, eh? It's us!
Special Voice 2
Hattori: I gotchu now, Kudo!
Conan: Not so fast, Hattori.
Hattori: Well played... I'd expect no less from the Great Detective of the East!
Conan: But well, we're playing a puzzle game, not having a deductive battle...
[Executing a Top-Secret Mission] Kazami Yuuya & Furuya Rei
Tumblr media
Special Voice 1
Furuya: Shall we go rest somewhere after this?
Kazami: Thank you for your consideration.
Furuya: Come now. We're going.
Kazami: Yes, sir!
Special Voice 2
Kazami: Thank you for your hard work. You were perfect again today, Furuya-san.
Furuya: Kazami. You did well.
Kazami: T-Thank you very much.
[The Santa Freeloading At the Kudo Mansion] Okiya Subaru
Tumblr media
Special Voice 1
Okiya: Huh? You think I'm overexcited? I don't believe so. Though I'm certainly looking forward to Christmas.
[Merry Christmas!!] Edogawa Conan & Okiya Subaru
Tumblr media
Special Voice 1
Okiya: So you're a reindeer? How nice.
Conan: I don't have a red nose though...
Special Voice 2
Conan: You made that cake, Subaru-san?
Okiya: It's Christmas, after all. I couldn't miss the opportunity.
Conan: You're surprisingly into this.
Akai Shuuichi (Various)
Voice Line
Akai: There's times when one can't speak the truth in order to protect someone. But if possible, I'd prefer not to lie to you.
Voice Line
Akai: I'd like to understand you more than anyone else, right by your side. So I'd like you to be sincere to your feelings in front of me as well.
Morofushi Hiromitsu (Various)
Voice Line
Hiro: It's important not to get too heated. Else, you might lose sight of what's truly precious to you.
Furuya Rei (Various)
Voice Line
Furuya: I feel quite the allure from you. It's normal to feel drawn to the strong, no?
Voice Line
Furuya: I trust you. So don't do anything to betray that trust, won't you?
Voice Line
Furuya: It's fine to throw yourself into solving puzzles, but I'd like you to pay some attention to me as well.
Voice Line
Furuya: Lies are sometimes necessary. Like lies you tell yourself in order to surpass your own limits.
Voice Line
Furuya: There's times when one must carry something through to the end, even if it means sacrifice.
Voice Line
Furuya: There's times when hatred can become one's strength. Though I can't say whether that's right.
Voice Line
Furuya: Forgoing sleep and food to throw yourself into something… there's times in this world when that's necessary.

18+ He’s The Next One: 3 - F!Reader X L Lawliet
No gendered language is used (Probably). The reader is described as wearing a bra, panties, and a dress.
Wordcount: 4.9k
Contains: Second person POV, NSFT, Teasing, Mutual Masturbation, Power Imbalance, Biting, The reader is a serial killer, bukkake, Semi-Public (task force headquarters).
Integrating yourself into the Kira Task Force went about as smoothly as you could have hoped, the vague way L described your role as a ‘consulting specialist’ was undercut slightly when an older gentleman handed you a box clearly labeled Plan-B. At least any suspicions they might have about why you’re here will be relatively innocent. Relative to murder anyway.
It’s been a few weeks of this now, the uncomfortable side eye from the older members of the team interspersed with fumbling and blushing from the puppy of the group, a boy named Matsuda who’s hair can’t possibly be regulation for a police officer.
It’s a little boring to be honest, surrounded by cops and completely unthreatened.
It certainly doesn’t help that all there is to do is people watch cops. L and Watari don’t like you leaving the building, for reasons that are daily obvious and that you mentally concede too even if you maintain a consistent verbal denial of guilt, and the officers you ‘work’ with are just dull. Aizawa’s rude, Mogi’s so boring you forget he exists most days, and Yagami-san makes you want to back flip dive out of a window like there’s a pool waiting for you at the bottom.
“Puppy?” You call out from across the room where you’ve draped yourself over a couch. Matsuda jumps in his ridiculous blue embroidered seat beside L and then twists around to look at you with wide fearful eyes.
And that’s just because he thinks you let L hit it raw.
You decide he doesn’t need to know that he’s correct… Technically L decided that, asking you to maintain 'A professional level of deniability' around the same time he told you to keep at least an eight foot distance between yourself and the young officer.
“The fool is even more accident prone when you’re nearby. But until we have more information catching Kira is in part a numbers game.” You smirk as you remember what he’s said next, “Do try not to break him.”
“Is there something you need M-san?” He sounds as hopeful as he does nervous, flinching away when L huffs out a breath before leaning forwards to drop far too much sugar into a concoction that can only generously be referred to as tea.
You raise both of your eyebrows and blink slowly at the boy, trying to achieve a look that’s a mixture between offended and amused as he quickly corrects himself to, “M-kun.” and after a moment of hesitation, “... M-chan?”
“Matsuda, despite what you may think this is in fact a professional environment.” The bored drawl of L's voice comes quickly enough, and you enjoy watching Matsuda curl into himself at the sound of it. Poor thing. From the place you’re lounging you can’t see the side eye but you can certainly feel it. “Do try to contain yourself around my expert consultant. You may either address M properly or not at all.”
“Yes L, sir of course. Was, uh- Was there something I could do for you… Consultant M?” The sweet boy hesitates as he guesses at what would be appropriate to call you and you grin, though you quickly pull the expression back into a more reserved, friendly smile.
“What’s your sign?”
“Gemini.” L answers on Matsuda's behalf before he can.
“Oh that’s good, Kira’s a Pisces.”
“O-Oh. Is that so?” Matsuda smiles nervously at you as if he understands what you’re talking about.
So you nod as if he does and continue, “That’s why you’re so bad at communicating with Light, but the sexual tension is off the charts.”
“The- Huh?!”
His eyes are practically bugging out and it takes nearly the entirety of your self control to maintain a straight face as you nod, pretending not to notice his surprise.
“Quite true.” L intones, once again deadpan.
Matsuda looks like he’s about to fall over as he jumps up out of his seat, nearly toppling and barely managing to catch and right the chair he had been sitting in, looking distraught at the beleaguered sigh L lets out beside him, never once having turned away from the monitors.
“I-” Matsuda damn near shouts when he tries to speak and quickly clears his throat before trying again, “I’m going to go check if the chief is here yet for his shift. Excuse me.” He bows a perfect ninety degrees at the waist before speed walking to the door like a middle aged woman in the park.
It’s only after the door shuts that you let yourself laugh and relax from what Yagami-san had once had the audacity to refer to as your ‘Vixen Posture’, chilling more comfortably on the overly expensive couch.
“That was mean.”
You choose not to comment on the smile you can hear in his voice.
“That was fun .”
And this is the part you stay for. For all that L is insufferable, and inscrutable, and all around weird , this frog can be fucking hilarious when he feels like it. And if your observations are anything to go by, he usually does.
For a while you thought that maybe he was just testing the people around him but in the short time you’ve been here you’ve come to the same conclusion L has. These people couldn’t collectively deduce their way out of a wet paper bag. So every time he cracks a joke and the old butler, W, or Watari, huffs in fond amusement, the rest of the room is usually left staring on in absolute horror. With the exception of yourself of course. You watch the chaos unfold with glee.
You hear the door and shift your posture, from house cat to tiger as you look to see who’s here.
The Puppy and The Chief.
Which means the next four hours of your life are going to be Super Duper.
You roll your eyes away from where Matsuda, his cheeks a dark shade of flaming red, is nervously reporting to Yagami-san their total lack of progress.
L squats like a frog in front of an absurd amount of monitors, you mentally place bets against yourself each morning as to whether or not another will appear, and one corner of your lips twitches up as you look at the absurd view.
There’s no way he can actually monitor all the screens at once and it wouldn’t surprise you if the set up was entirely for the benefit of the Task Force. And loathe as you are to admit it, it isn’t for a lack of mental capacity. The only thing slowing this frog down is a lack of an extra several sets of eyes.
Hence the task force.
As he tips back some of the sugar slurry he calls tea you can feel yourself smile and forcibly yawn, hiding your affection amusement behind fatigue.
You bet to yourself that he thinks he looks so cool.
A nervous laugh and the click of the door opening and shutting as indicates the exit of Matsuda and Yagami-san takes The Puppy’s post, stiffly seating himself in the chair beside L and paying you no mind as he passes by. A scowl twitches across your features briefly at the back of the man’s head and you restrain yourself from letting out a long string of increasingly vulgar expletives at his very presence.
Kira’s father, and Yagami-san is Kira’s father, the seventeen year old little shit lacks subtlety beyond belief and you have absolutely no doubt as to why L seemed so dismissive of their abilities of observation, irks you. The rest of the task force tout him as some kind of paragon of virtue and yet he’s managed to raise a mass murderer in only seventeen short years, all the while maintaining his own blissful, stubborn, ignorance of the facts.
All the arguments you've had with this man play on loop inside your head whenever he has the audacity, the hubris, nay even the chutzpah to breathe the same air as you.
The FBI agent tailing the kid dies the day after Light changes his pattern of behavior.
Coincidence isn’t causality.
It was an armed bus jacking that the kid was on with Penber behind him.
These things happen.
It was a shuttle bus to a theme park.
Well… Criminals aren’t known for their intelligence.
The only person to spend any time with him in between the events of that day and his heart attack at the train station disappears, presumed dead, after going to the police station and stating she has information for the Kira Task Force?
What are you some kind of conspiracy theorist?
Light’s mother and sister confirm he left home thirty five minutes before the death, which is roughly the time it would take to walk from their home to the station, give or take a few minutes to make the kill, and returned home roughly the same amount of time afterwards.
When did you talk to my family?!
The person in the CCTV footage was filmed following him leading up to the event of his death, avoided showing his face but has the same height, build, and hair color as Light and is wearing clothing that he owns?
...
Maybe the real Kira was the fast fashion we bought along the way.
Setting your jaw to keep you from grinding your teeth, you slink your way off of the couch, treading silent footsteps over to the other side of L, intentionally putting him between you and Yagami-san, just to see the self righteous old bastard twitch.
Leaning your hip against L’s chair, practically sitting on the arm rest, you flick your eyes between the monitors. “Kitamura or Yagami today?”
You already know the answer since you’ve been monitoring the same empty house for hours, but hearing Kira’s father huff in annoyance as you pointedly ignore him is satisfying.
“Yagami. You will be needed to monitor the daughter should she require the facilities.”
“Under no circumstances will M-” You snort at the moniker, knowing that L introduced you that way as a shorthand for Murderer, “- be watching my daughter when she’s indecent!”
“I suppose I could do it myself if you insist, unless…” L turns his head to him and blinks up at him with those flat dead eyes and you can see his look of feigned dawning horror in the reflection of one of the screens as he continues, “Yagami-san it may not be appropriate for you to participate in the continued surveillance of your own household.”
His voice is as unaffected as ever and you cackle, gracing Yagami-san with your attention just long enough to see the look of shock, disgust, and pure unadulterated rage on his stern features.
However many years in the police force and this man genuinely doesn’t realize that L is fucking with him?
You laugh harder.
“How dare-”
L, with the social grace and poise you've come to expect of him, cuts Yagami-san off, “Light has returned. Let us do the job we're here for and observe what he does.”
That cuts your laughter short as you glare at the monitor, at the child who stole so many of your kills.
He’s acting normal, like any other teenager tired after coming home from school, something you don’t consider suspicious until he pulls out a dirty magazine, stashed away in what looks to be a collection of books on architecture. It isn’t the magazine on its own that’s suspicious, in fact if anything that would have reassured you that he wasn’t aware of the cameras. But the thing is, he is acting .
You watch first with a bit of uncomfortable apprehension and then surprise as he lays down in bed and flips the magazine open to an extremely revealing image of a gravure model arching against rumpled bed sheets as her breasts all but spill out of her too small red bikini. And he just… Looks.
He just looks.
You’re struck with the image of a school girl lying on her stomach and kicking her legs back and forth as she writes in her diary and you double forward so hard in your laughter you have to slam your hand down on the coffee table in front of the three of you to catch yourself, knocking L’s tea to the floor in the process.
“Oh my god!” You can barely get out anything in between your peels of laughter and you laugh louder when you hear Yagami-san scolding you from his own seat. L ignores the disruption and the tea, continuing to watch in his own silence.
“This is a serious investigation M,” Yagami-san spits the name he was given with venom, “I don’t know what’s so funny to you that my son-”
“Knows about the cameras?” That cuts him off as you force your cackles down into mere giggles.
“How can you possibly know that?” Yagami-san sounds befuddled and L just stares ahead. You would think he hadn't been listening to your discussion if it weren't for the faintest crease forming above his nose as non-existent brows push together in concentration.
“I want you to think back to when you were seventeen Yagi-san-”
“Detective Yagami-”
“-Yogurt-sama, back to the mid-paleolithic era when you were but a wee lad in the throes of puberty.” You grin at him, your smile all teeth, not reaching your eyes, “Now picture you’ve come home to your cave and the rest of your tribe is out for the afternoon and you’ve got the Female Figure of Hohlefels stashed away in your room, because this cave has rooms and also doors and also you put traps on the doors to know if anyone’s gone in your cave room…”
He glares at you instead of responding, though his expression is fading from one of outrage to despair.
“... How do you spend the next fifteen to twenty minutes?”
You shoot L a grin that falters when you notice his current micro-expression, something you’ve been making a point to try to learn about him, the furrow between his not-brows deepening and his dull lifeless eyes widened slightly as if that will somehow help him process more information.
He’s confused?
Now you’re confused.
Does he not get it? How does he not get it?
The room is quiet now, no laughter and no shouting, and you all return your attention to the monitor. Light moves to sit on the edge of his bed, a casual slouch to his posture as he rests the magazine in his lap and casually flips through it, like a bored patient in a doctor’s waiting room.
“If Light-kun is in fact aware that he is being surveilled there is little point in continuing to monitor him. We will only ever see what he wants us to see.”
“Unless he slips up.” you add, and L nods at your response.
You pointedly don’t look at Yagami-san, not wanting to see his reaction.
It’s another few hours of this, of watching a whole lot of nothing happen in silence before Yagami-san’s shift is over and he turns in for the night, heading home. You can’t help but to heave a sigh of relief when the door to the hotel room clicks shut behind him, practically climbing over L to throw yourself into the vacated chair, your legs hooked over the arm nearest to him so you can nudge at his shoulder with your foot.
“Ask.”
L turns his head towards you in acknowledgement but his eyes remain on the screen. On Kira. In the brief time you’ve known him L has never missed a clue and the awareness of his confusion, of your superiority over him in this matter burns you up from the inside. You lean further back in the seat until you’re draped between the arms with your ankles interlocked in between his thighs and his stomach.
You suspect it’s this physical imposition that prompts the response.
“What is it you wish me to ask?”
“How I know he’s acting for the cameras.”
There’s something pleasing about the way his eyes snap from the camera to you, unblinking, and somehow against all possibility still flat, not catching the light as he stares at you with the same attention he had given Kira.
Suck it Kira.
“How?”
Slowly, ever so slowly, you uncross your ankles, dragging one foot up his chest and over his shoulder until you can rest your calf on the back of his seat, legs spread open for him to see.
His eyes are no longer locked on your face, though he still hasn’t blinked.
“I can demonstrate for you if you’d like. A practical way of learning, though you would need to cooperate to prove my hypothesis.”
He does a weird little twist in the garishly ornate hotel chair, not quite a hop but something adjacent, as he shuffles to face you directly. “What do I need to do?” The words are addressed to the crotch of your panties.
A grin spreads on your face, cheshire wide, as your fingers raise to your collarbones, slowly tracing down in feather light spirals as one by one you undo the button-down dress you’re wearing, until it hangs open at the front. And you roll your shoulders to ease it halfway down your arms. His lips part ever so slightly as he traces the movement, and then your figure, outlining you with his eyes like an artist planning a painting.
You hum out a content little noise as the foot that had been in his lap moves to his shoulder , framing him between your legs. Then you give him the only rule necessary for your experiment, “Don’t touch.”
He blinks, and your grin turns into something darker, hungry, eyelids growing heavy as you let the very tips of your nails drag across the flesh of your chest until you reach the cups of your bra. It’s a lacey thing, thank you laundry day, and he breathes in sharply through his nose and you have the pleasure of seeing him hold his breath while you drag your fingers slowly back and forth across the skin where it meets the lace.
“You’re attracted to me.”
It’s a statement of fact but he breathes out a yes like it was somehow up for debate, the sound causing your pussy to clench around nothing. He’s so pretty when he’s needy. You let your hands cup the flesh of your chest, briefly squeezing, pushing them up and together, intentionally dragging your bra up with the motion to leave a bit of yourself exposed at the very bottom before you slide your hands down your stomach. Your fingers are feather light again as you reach your hips, grabbing and digging in for a moment.
“What does this make you think of, L?”
His entire body twitches when you call him that. One day you’ll figure out why.
“I think of how it felt to fuck you.” Your cunt clenches down hard at the vulgarity and you can feel your eyes go wide, thankful that his own remain locked on your hands so he won’t have seen your surprise. “I look at the give of your hips under your fingers and remember how they felt under mine.” His eyes, flick up to yours and you school your expression. “I remember the bruises that were left there. You winced when you leaned against anything for the entire week following our... Coupling.”
You let out a disappointed huff at the word choice before hooking a finger on either side of the front of your panties, dragging them up between the slick lips of your cunt with a whine, “Feels so fucking good .” You’re exaggerating your reactions slightly as you rock your hips in a wave like motion dragging your clit against the clinging fabric of your panties. You note that they’re granny panties and an entirely different color from your bra, thank you laundry day, but if the visible way L is tenting the front of his jeans is anything to go by you don’t think he minds.
“I want you to picture something for me L, okay?” He nods and you continue, “Good boy.” You watch his fingers dig hard into his thighs where his hands rested and make a note of that.
“I want you to picture me laid out on a set of tangled up white sheets.” Your breath hitches as your head rolls back, “Picture me slick with sweat, in nothing but a little red bikini, at least two sizes too small.”
His hand starts to drift down again and you snap, practically hiss out, “No touching.” Causing him to freeze, before you continue, voice as needy and breathy as if he’d never moved, “I want you to picture the way it would press into my skin, like your fingers, how it would dig in and leave marks if I took it off for you.” A whine escapes your throat as you let go of your panties to run your hand down and over your pussy, dragging against it with an erotic sound, petting yourself as you rock and whimper, the legs of the chair squeaking with each roll of your hips.
“You-” L needs to stop to clear his throat and that fact makes you bite your lip, “You said this was a practical demonstration. Those are typically referred to by laymen as being hands on.”
You laugh and the grin you shoot at him is wicked, “Why do teenage boys look at dirty magazines?”
It takes a second for him to process the question, his eyes looking glazed over from where you’re sitting, dilated more than normal which is saying something for him but he manages to respond exactly how you wanted him to. “Because they are attracted to the models.”
“Good boy.” His eyelashes start to flutter but they don’t close, like he doesn’t want to miss a moment of this and you reward his clever mind with another pretty picture, hooking your fingers into the side of your panties and dragging them over, exposing your dripping cunt. You can only imagine what you look like from his perspective, the light of the monitors illuminating your body as you expose yourself to him. As you expose yourself for him.
“What would you be doing right now if we were completely alone, knew that no one would see you, but you still couldn’t touch me?”
He blinks as the realization occurs to him. “I would touch myself.”
You know your expression must look smug but you can’t help it as you say once again, “Good boy.” Before dipping your middle and ring fingers into your dripping cunt, pressing slowly until they’re buried up to the last knuckle. “You- ahn- You can feel free to con- nnm- sider this the end of the practical dem- mn- demonstration.”
With that you let your head fall back as you roll your hips against your hand, grinding your fingers in and out of your pussy, the wet slide of cunt being fucked into noisy in the empty headquarters. You let your moans spill out freely, as the heel of your palm presses against your puffy clit. You and your frog both earned this reward. Him for being so clever and you for being so patient.
L takes half a moment to process what the demonstration coming to an end means before moving to sit like you are, knees hooked over the arm of his chair as he leans back against the other arm rest. You wonder if his abysmal posture makes that comfier for him than it does for you but push away the thought as he unbuttons his baggy jeans, lifting his hips long enough to shove them half way down his thighs, fishing out his cock with no hesitation.
And there’s the real prize for your patience. Pale, slender fingers wrap around that pretty pink cock that you know from experience feels thicker than it looks and you can’t help but whine when you see the absolute gush of pre-cum dripping down from the flushed tip of him, dirtying his hand.
His fingers seem to press harder as he strokes them over the faintly visible forking veins and when his hand reaches the top he rubs the palm in a quick jerking circle over the head, sticky strands of pre-cum clinging between his fingers and dripping down as he strokes his cock with a rapid, jerky pace. His mouth hangs open and you can see his tongue wet with spit as he all but drools over the sight of you fucking your own pussy and you intentionally slow your strokes, dragging your fingers out to the very tip before slowly pushing your way back into your warm wet walls, soft and accepting as your body expects, borderline demands, to be fucked.
The whine he lets out at the sight has you pulling your fingers out entirely, holding them up to his eye level and spreading them apart to see the way your cum clings and drips, coating you in your own mess. His hips hump up and he reaches with his other hand to tug at his cock, pulling the foreskin back so he can focus more on the tip, rubbing rough circles around the darkening head of him and swiping a finger down the slit to collect more of his pre-cum. He’s so fucking messy and loathe as you are to admit it you want to lick every last drop up.
You choose to think of it as an opportunity to learn your enemies weaknesses.
Grabbing the side of your chair you pull yourself up and over the arm to kneel next to him, leaning forwards with your mouth open, tongue already hanging out only for him to grab your jaw in a shaking grip as he hisses out, “No touching.”
And all you can do is partially nod as he fists his wet cock in front of your face, crossing your ankles beneath you and sitting back against them so you can grind your soaked pussy and needy clit down against your own leg.
As he rolls his neck to the side, pressing his head against the backrest as he starts to rock his hips up into the motion of his stroking, a wet slap accompanying every individual thrust you lean your forehead against one of his knees and whine before nuzzling back and forth against the worn denim. You jerk with surprise as the hand that was holding your jaw lets go to pet your hair gently, in stark contrast to the rough way he’s fucking his own fist.
Your hips jump and you press down harder, faster, rougher as you try to get more friction against the wet slide of your cunt against the back of your leg. You feel like you’re melting, like you’ve been hit by a sudden fever bad enough to put you in a hospital, as you pant against this damned man frog.
You’re going to come like this, you realize with a pang of resentment.
You’re going to cum, kneeling between his legs as he pets you like a fucking cat.
The anger this makes you feel doesn’t stop it from happening.
It does however inspire you to lean forwards and bite down hard on the inside of his thigh as you cum, the feeling of it rolling over you in waves until your vision blurs and you’re choking moans around the pale bruising skin trapped between your teeth.
The way L tries to jerk his leg away but can’t because of the chair only results in his hips bucking up sharply forcing his thigh further against your open mouth. You blink a few times, dazed, before looking up and locking eyes with him, easing your teeth away from the bite before passively pressing a kiss to it, as if in apology.
That’s when he cums. And he looks so pretty like this, cheeks flushed and chest heaving like he’s had the wind knocked out of him, gazing down at you like you’ve changed the whole world in a moment. When he looks at you like that you almost don’t notice…
The bastard got cum in your goddamn hair.
You’re going to kill-
“Hagoromo.”
“Huh?”
Those long, pale fingers, disgusting with his own filth, reach out towards you and a hair's breadth away from the skin of your arm he hesitates. “It’s the way the fabric of your dress drapes across your arms. Like a Hagaromo scarf. That’s what I see when I look at you. I was wondering earlier...”
His arm drops back to his side and he rests his hands on his knees like always, like his hair isn’t more disheveled than usual, like his cock isn’t out and blushing from the abuse it just took, Like there isn’t cum sticking to and drying on his shirt.
You’re kneeling at this man’s feet, his cum in your hair, very likely on your face as well, flushed and panting, hair and clothing an absolute mess…
And when L looks at you he sees divinity.
In the dark of the room, with the light of the monitors finally catching and reflecting in L’s eyes, for the very first time you think to yourself, “He looks human.”

Trace: Recollection of a Forensic Researcher Chapter 64 English Translation
I like this chapter a lot! Not only because Dan's screentime but also Reiji!! 😭😭
Also, for notes, my japanese and english skill is still lacking so I use some of the machine translator (deepl/google), I'm sorry if there's a mistranslation 😢
Don't forget to buy the official manga or read it along in the official web (mangahot/comic zenon) since I will only give the dialog tl not the scanlation
For those who is confused, Trace is the main series of Brutal! I recommend it especially when you already read Brutal to the latest chapter

"Nagito," Yasuke Matsuda glared, and Nagito Komaeda laughed brightly, the four refugees from the Towa Sect behind him. "What the fuck did you do now?"
"Matsuda-kun, isn't it lovely?" Nagito laughed. "The Towa siblings survived the massacre! With some help, I'm sure they'd be able to defeat Enoshima-san!"
"Um." Makoto fucking Naegi said, holding Monaka Towa close to his chest as Komaru clung to his sleeve. "Hi?"
"Nagito. What the fuck."

Yasuke Matsuda didn't plan on betraying Junko Enoshima today. Unfortunately for him, there are four traumatized, injured siblings who need his help, and Nagito Komaeda is especially meddlesome.

escape rooms, hidden identities, and ulterior motives
Hagiwara Kenji and Morofushi Hiromitsu make a bet: Matsuda and Kuroba teamup vs Furuya and Kudo teamup, escape room version. Which team will win?
~3.4k, Hagi/Hiro, Kaito/Shiho. post BO takedown, wps5 lives AU.
****
[room 1]
When Furuya-san invited him to an escape room challenge to compete against a friend of his who will be teaming up with another high school student, Shinichi never expected the said “another high school student”, who Furuya-san referred to as “Kuroba-kun”, is Kaito KID’s civilian identity.
To be fair, it’s not that Shinichi has any concrete proof, but the moment he sees Kuroba’s face that looks so very similar to his own, almost identical, combined with his previous speculation about how KID probably looks a lot like him to be able to sneak into places undisguised while impersonating him ...
What are the chances that there is another person aside from KID who also looks that similar to him? It’s nearly impossible -
Shinichi halts, remembering the time, back before the organization was taken down, during the school trip when he was seen on TV because of the reporters, Hattori helped him out by claiming that wasn’t him but Okita Soshi, who also looks quite like him. He can almost imagine Miyano’s bored voice inside his head now, “you probably just have a very common face, Kudo-kun.”
But still, the way Kuroba reacted when saw Shinichi earlier, the quick flash of surprise that disappeared all too quickly but didn’t go unnoticed by Shinichi, made Shinichi very suspicious. If they’ve truly never met before, as both of them have acted and claimed earlier, then what’s with Kuroba’s reaction?
Plus, now that Shinichi thinks about it, Furuya-san mentioned his friend Matsuda-san met Kuroba at a local magic club because “he was bored recently and decided to pick up magic tricks”. Magic tricks as a hobby plus looking suspiciously like Kudo Shinichi.
What are the odds?
“Wait, why does 87 go there?” Furuya-san interrupts Shinichi’s thoughts as Shinichi is multitasking between solving the clues of the escape room with him and pondering about the possibility of Kuroba being Kaito KID. “That column is for the Fibonnaci numbers, didn’t we just agree?”
Shinichi blinks. Right. 87 isn’t 89. He moves the magnet. “Sorry.”
“You’re distracted,” Furuya remarks.
Oh no. He’d thought he’d hidden his multitasking well, but perhaps not. And after all, this is the man who used to be Bourbon.
“My math is getting a bit rusty,” he jokes, casually deflecting.
Furuya arches an eyebrow.
Shinichi smiles back, bright and sunny. “Anyway -” he begins cheerfully.
“Well, well, well, now isn’t that quite a déjà vu,” Furuya drawls. “Isn’t this your patented ‘I’m just a little kid with no ulterior motives or complicated thoughts’ move that you used to use when you were Edogawa Conan, Kudo-kun? Specifically, for when you’re definitely hiding something.”
Damn it. Old habits die hard, and while that has worked perfectly for Conan, the bright and cheerful and clever elementary school student, the overly cheeriness and feigned innocence give it away when he tries the same thing as Kudo Shinichi, high school detective.
****
[room 3]
Hagiwara flings an arm across Morofushi’s shoulders. “How’s your team doing, Morofushi-chan?”
“Admittedly, it would appear that Zero’s taking a break.”
“From solving the clues, and decides to refresh his mind with some fun debates with his teammate,” Hagiwara muses, feigning seriousness, but there’s a hint of playful smile almost surfacing. “I suppose that’s how top tier detectives work.”
“Well,” Morofushi blinks innocently. “I wouldn’t know.”
Hagiwara sighs dramatically. “Always so modest, Morofushi-chan. When will you see yourself the way I see you? So smart and handsome and perfect.”
“See, I told ya, nee-chan,” Hattori Heiji says smugly to Miyano Shiho. “Other people can be better detectives than me, but they’ll never be as good a partner to Kudo than I am.”
“Are they always like this when they’re together?” Miyano Shiho ignores Hattori and drily asks Officer Sato and Miss Natalie Kuruma, who are also here to watch the escape room competition from the observation room. Their respective boyfriends are both on shift at division one today and couldn’t make it. Shiho has known Morofushi Hiromitsu - Scotch, back then - for more than a few years now, but Hagiwara Kenji is a much more recent acquaintance. She thinks she’s still not quite used to him.
“Pretty much,” Natalie confirms.
“It’s mostly just Hagiwara-san being dramatic,” Sato adds.
“Sato-chan’s biased against me, I blame Jinpei-chan,” Hagiwara says immediately. “Since I’m his childhood friend, apparently this makes her think that we’re both equally annoying.”
“Oh no,” Sato says sincerely. “I think you’re annoying in a completely different way than he is, Hagiwara-san.”
“Awww, that’s the nicest thing you’ve said to me today, Sato-chan, I’m touched.”
****
[room 2]
Tokyo is overflowing with detectives, everyone wants to be a detective these days. (Of course, as everyone knows, the real classy people become master thieves, instead of critics who never create art themselves and only comment on the sidelines.) There are coffee shop detectives, musicians doubling as detectives, college detectives, high school detectives, elementary school detectives, etc.
Matsuda-san never mentioned that the one detective that his friend from academy days would be bringing to team up with is the one detective in Tokyo that he’s impersonated too many times by now that the detective must’ve already suspected that they look alike.
Kudo Shinichi, formerly Edogawa Conan.
This city is overflowing with detectives, what are the odds?
Just his luck, Kaito thinks resignedly.
Shiho-san is here too to observe the competition. Kaito saw her earlier before he and Matsuda-san came into the room, but he and Shiho didn’t acknowledge each other out there since their current relationship is still a secret one and a very new thing.
The way Kudo reacted earlier the moment he saw him, while Kaito wants to simply take it as Kudo being surprised to see someone who looks very similar to him, the suspicion and understanding that flashed across Kudo’s eyes earlier made it very clear to Kaito that things are not that simple.
He’s pretty sure Kudo suspects that he’s Kaito KID now. Maybe even more than suspects. And Matsuda-san’s academy days friend “Furuya-san”, the man Kaito clearly remembers as Bourbon - judging from how he’s probably once undercover, he might be from PSB.
If Kudo tells him about Kaito’s identity … no, he doesn’t have any evidence. But if he breaks out of this room too quickly, too professionally, then that can be used as evidence against him. After all, even though it’s agreed in the beginning that Kudo and his teammate will try to solve the escape room traditionally while Kaito and Matsuda-san will try to break out via tackling the various locks, and see which team will win, if he does it too perfectly and too fast it would only make people think he’s Kaito KID.
Shiho-san knows about his KID identity - it was easier to reveal his double identities to her, maybe because he found out about her multiple identities (one of which an ex-criminal, which he thinks makes her more likely to understand certain things Meitantei won’t)  and got involved in a scheme that had likely saved her life. He knows that she has mentioned it to a friend during a discussion before she agreed to date him, and that the friend has promised to keep his secret quiet too, but he doesn’t know who this friend is.
Still, it’s unlikely that the friend Shiho mentioned is one of the few people in this room, Kaito thinks. So Shiho is likely the only one out there in the observation room who will think his slower pace is weird, and he’s sure she can understand why he’s doing this.
Kaito gradually slows his hands down, pretending to ponder for a bit, frowning as if he’s hit a roadblock.
“Getting stuck, Kuroba-kun?” Matsuda-san asks, noticing.
“No!” Kaito protests immediately. “Of course not. I swear I’ve solved a similar lock before. This is very like the type of lock I’ve read that KID-sama likes! So I’ve studied it a lot. I’m a big fan, you see.”
“So you’ve said, repeatedly,” Matsuda-san says drily. “Let me know if you need help with that, Kuroba-kun.”
“No, I can solve it myself,”  Kaito says stubbornly, playing the role of “eager high school student who loves magic tricks but doesn’t actually have that much experience” well. He intentionally makes a few mistakes that would complicate the lock even more instead of untangle it. He mentionally gives himself a thumbs-up for his acting.
“Alright,” Matsuda laughs. “Kaito KID’s number one fan. Well, don’t let your idol down.”
“I won’t!” Kaito promises enthusiastically.
****
[room 3]
Miyano Shiho keeps a poker face as she watches her secret boyfriend play his “number one KID fan act”, meanwhile Hattori Heiji looks very thoughtful as he switches between watching the two different screens showing the two different escape rooms.
He’s suspicious of Kuroba-kun, Shiho realizes. Which is not that surprising, Shiho has to admit. She’s sure that Kudo-kun is already suspecting him as well, from the way he’s obviously distracted while solving the clues, so much that right now he and Furuya-san have both stopped solving the clues and slip back into their usual back-and-forth conversation of one hiding information and another fishing for it. And she knows how in sync Hattori-kun and Kudo-kun are, it’s like they have some kind of weird telepathy going on. The only reason that Hattori-kun is probably not yet as sure of his suspicions is that he thinks it’s natural that no one works with Kudo as well as he can, so it’s not that suspicious for him that Kudo has now stopped with the clues and gotten into some kind of argument instead.
****
[room 1]
“It’s something about Kuroba-kun, isn’t it?” Furuya asks shrewdly.
Well, can he really in good conscience say “right, I suspect he’s Kaito KID” ? While he wants to catch KID, Shinichi considers it cheating if he exposes KID’s civilian identity instead of catching KID at the scene of the theft. They might be rivals, but it’s an ethics thing.
Plus, it would be difficult to explain why he thinks Kuroba is Kaito KID. What’s he going to say, “because he looks exactly like me”? “Oh that’s right, Furuya-san. I’ve known that he’s impersonated me many times before, enough to deduce that he probably looks very similar to me, and I never reported this to the police.”
Yeah right. That would just go great.
“His reaction was a bit weird when he saw me earlier,” Furuya-san adds, voice casual.
Shinichi’s instinct is to say “no actually that’s because he recognized me” before he remembers that, if Kuroba is indeed Kaito KID, then he’s met Furuya-san as Bourbon before.
Just how many people have multiple identities in these 3 rooms ….
“Really? I didn’t notice,” Shinichi says. If he doesn’t admit anything, Furuya can’t get anything out of him. Plus, it’s not like Shinichi has any hard evidence now. If he’s going to make any accusations, “because Kuroba looks like me” won’t be enough.
Of course, the way Kuroba solves the escape room via tackling the locks might provide some kind of insight, but how fast does he need to be, how sharp do his skills need to be, for it to convince others that he is indeed Kaito KID?
Shinichi can’t simply go make accusations - as sure as he is that he’s right - without good enough proof. It’s not what Holmes would do, after all.
****
[room 3]
Hagiwara acts pleased that the “unlocking” team seems to be making more progress than the “clues solving” team, because he did bet on Jinpei-chan’s team winning, but inwardly he’s hoping for a comeback. Don’t let me down, Furuya-chan, he thinks. Didn’t you and Kudo-kun once save Tokyo MPD by teaming up brilliantly? Come on, Furuya-chan.
Morofushi-chan has bet that Furuya-chan’s team would win, and he and Hagiwara agreed earlier that whoever wins the bet gets to make a request tonight in bed and the other has to agree to whatever it is.
Frankly, Hagiwara’s very curious and eager to know what the ever so pleasant and polite Morofushi-chan might come up with. Hagiwara has always known that Morofushi-chan’s the type that’s cordial and pleasant and nice but also slyer than he looks on the surface. The way he acts most of the time, most people would not have guessed that this is someone who went undercover at an international crime organization.
He would be lying if he says he doesn’t want to use this chance to see if he can dig up the not so perfectly warm and way-too-nice side of Morofushi-chan. It always gives him a certain thrill when Morofushi-chan casually reveals a different side to him that he doesn’t show in front of people he isn’t so familiar with. Sato is a good example, Hagiwara thinks she’s completely fooled by Morofushi-chan’s innocent act. Hagiwara likes to know that he gets to see a deeper side, it makes him feel special.
It makes him want to see more of that side.
****
[room 2]
“Calm down, Kuroba-kun,” Matsuda-san says.
“What?” Kaito looks up and blinks, startled.
“And focus on the lock itself, not about impressing your idol,” Matsuda says, then adds, teasingly. “Your ‘KID-sama’ isn’t here to see you perform, anyway.”
You have no idea, Matsuda-san. Kaito thinks. Outwardly, he blushes in embarrassment. “I wasn’t - I mean, fine, maybe a little, but -”
Matsuda says, wisely, “Listen. Rushing up is the worst trap ever.” He points towards one of the places that Kaito remembers having intentionally made a mistake earlier. “See this? It goes through the other ring. I don’t think you’d normally make this mistake, but you’re too eager to solve this quickly and achieve some record on the first try that you’re losing sight of the actual lock itself.”
Kaito has to admit, he didn’t think that deep when he chose this mistake to make. It almost gave him away, the too easy mistake, but it seems that Matsuda-san has rationalized it with him being too overexcited and eager.
Kaito gives him a slightly grateful smile. “Thanks, Matsuda-san.”
****
[room 3]
Hiromitsu still remembers how Shiho came to ask him for advice a couple of weeks ago. Sherry and Scotch were friendly acquaintances, back in the organization. Well, for some definition of friendly. It was the organization, after all. They’d hanged out a couple of times when Rye wanted to take Miyano Akemi on dates and Akemi wanted to take Sherry along whenever it’s allowed since Sherry didn’t get much chance to experience the outside world, and Rye wanted someone to babysit Sherry while he spent time with Akemi. He’d also accompanied Sherry on a few shopping trips as her bodyguard, under Gin’s instructions.
After he faked his death and after she became Haibara Ai, they came into contact again and quickly developed a friendship. Therefore, he was the one she decided to talk to when Kuroba Kaito - aka Kaito KID, Hiromitsu has learned from Shiho - asked her out.
“I like him too,” she admitted during that conversation. “But he’s - he may be a criminal by the definition of the law, but it’s in no way on the same level as I am. Consider … what I’ve done. Even though you and Furuya-san managed to work out clearing my name for me. I .. have blood on my hands. I want to think that I deserve a nice future with him but - I don’t know.”
He spent quite some time telling her that it wasn’t her fault that the organization forced her to develop APTX4869, that she had no choice, especially when she grew up in the organization and they’d used her sister as leverage against her. “Plus,” he said solemnly. “You can’t compare scientists developing a technology to the people who deliberately use said technology to harm people. Just like a worker assembling guns at a factory is not someone who killed another person with a gun.”
“The people who died by APTX might not have been directly killed by me, but -”
“No buts,” he said, unusually sharp. “Miyano-san, have you considered that you might just be trying to find excuses to say no to potential happiness in some attempt because you think you don’t deserve it? Because you think of this as some kind of atonement?”
“Well,” she fired back at that time, equally sharp. “Have you considered that you jumped to this conclusion so quickly because that’s how you feel, too? You can’t tell me you don’t realize Hagiwara-san’s pursuing you, or that you’re uninterested. You just think that -”
“He doesn’t know the things I had to do while undercover,” Hiromitsu said, voice almost shaky. “The people I had to …”
“You didn’t have a choice either,” Shiho pointed out. She smiles, half bitter, half sarcastic. “You’re quite the hypocrite sometimes, aren’t you? You tell me I should stop finding excuses to say no to happiness as some kind of self-punishment, but what are you doing? If you don’t think you deserve happiness, why should I, who worked on APTX4868, get it?”
After a long silence, he said. “Maybe we should both … look forward. Instead of hiding in our pasts.”
We should,” she agreed softly. “How about we make a deal?”
Two days after that, neither of them were still single.
Since Shiho had told him about KID’s civilian identity, Hiromitsu made the bet with Hagi with the knowledge that Matsuda’s friend from the magic club is actually none other than Kaito KID himself. That’s why, he’d thought that no matter how fast Zero and Kudo-kun can solve all the clues and get out of the room, they’ll never actually win.
Which suits Hiromitsu, not that he’s planning to say that directly to Hagi.
Hagi’s flirtatious and dramatic but also very considerate and very much a gentleman, both in and out of bed. Which is obviously pleasant and enjoyable, but a part of Hiromitsu can’t help wanting to spice things up a bit and he wants Hagi instead of himself to be the one to make that first move.
He did spend a long time being a sniper, after all. He’s used to being patient, he likes to wait and observe first. Collect all the information, letting the other take the lead first.
Hence why he made the bet with the knowledge of Kuroba-kun being Kaito KID, while actually thinking Matsuda’s team is going to win, despite betting on Zero.
Admittedly, Kuroba is being slower than Hiromitsu previously expected, but then he realizes from Kudo’s reaction that Kuroba-kun might be trying to throw everyone off by not using Kaito KID level skills. He hasn’t taken that into account, but luckily Zero and Kudo-kun are also being delayed because the two of them are no longer focused on solving the clues.
With Matsuda’s steadiness, it looks like he and Kuroba might win this thing after all, even with Kuroba-kun intentionally slowing down.
“If it’s me in there with Kudo, we’d already be out by now,” Hattori-kun declares.
“We know, Hattori-kun,” Sato says. “You’ve said that for like five times already.”
****
[room 1]
“Furuya-san, don’t you think we should focus on what’s more important now, the clues?”
“Fine, Kudo-kun,” Furuya smiles, a mix of Amuro’s false sweetness and Bourbon’s danger. “But this isn’t over.”
****
[room 3]
“Furuya-kun looks a bit … scary for a moment there,” Natalie observes.
“That’s the so-called Bourbon-smile,” Shiho says expertly. “He learned it from an evil actress.”
“What about you, Morofushi-chan?” Hagiwara asks playfully. “Did you learn anything from any evil actresses?”
He’s saved from answering because at the moment, Matsuda and Kuroba break out of the escape room.
“Ah, Jinpei-chan!” Hagiwara exclaims. “I’ve always known you’d win!”
“I messed up quite a few times in there, but it’s all thanks to Matsuda-san that we managed to get out so fast!” Kuroba says.
“Don’t overdo it, Kuroba-kun,” Matsuda says drily.
Kuroba takes a quick glance at the still locked room. “Ah, they’re not out yet? I’d stay and wait for them but unfortunately I just remember I have another appointment and I have to run. Very nice meeting all of you. Matsuda-san, I’ll see you next weekend at the club. Goodbye!”
“Wait a second,” Hattori says. “There’s something -”
Kuroba ducks out before Hattori can finish his question. Miyano Shiho doesn’t so much as blink.
****
Well, there’s always next time, Hagiwara thinks optimistically.

'Like the rest of the group, he also wondered what could have driven out such a grin from him, out in the open like that. Worse, it could have not been a ‘what’, but a ‘who’. He had prided himself on never letting anyone slip under his skin, never letting anyone become close to him. Learning to rely on others, and let others rely on him, was one thing. This felt more personal, like a kick to the stomach.'

Cleaning up Hope’s Peak wasn’t an afternoon affair. Beyond the old school building that Byakuya knew too intimately, debris clogged hallways, trash lay scattered throughout the campus like weeds and the air smelled of rust and blood. The group of seven started with the art building on the east side of campus. For the first few hours, Yasuhiro hummed as he hauled cardboard boxes, Komaru still had the patience to prepare and bring lemonade, and Aoi’s sunshine voice beamed between walls as she shared a story about the time her family held a second-hand sale in their backyard.
By the end of the day, however, their lively chatter had dimmed with the sky. Inside remained as bright thanks to Byakuya and Yasuhiro reconnecting the electricity, but darkening windows reminded them of the aches in their limbs, the ebbing flames behind their eyes. Byakuya swept his gaze across what used to be a theatre but was currently a sorting room filled with boxes instead of chairs. Makoto, Touko, Komaru and Yasuhiro were sitting together on boxes, while Kyouko and Aoi had just walked in with a dirty wheelbarrow.
“We should adjourn until the morning,” Byakuya announced. He reached a hand toward his glasses, intending to push them up, but stopped himself when he remembered the grime clinging to his palms. Not wanting to dirty his glasses, he lowered his hand.
The Byakuya of the past would have deemed this sort of manual labour beneath him, yet he had willingly spent most of that day working alongside his companions. His friends. How things changed.
“There is so much stuff,” said Aoi, who by now had parked the wheelbarrow and was slouched against it. She wiped her vest against her forehead.
“And not a lot of it is useful,” added Kyouko, next to Aoi. Yasuhiro straightened up.
“Nonsense. All we need to do is spruce them up, and they’ll be ready to go on sale.” He walked over to a broken lamp, its shade bitten and discoloured, as dirty as the floor it lay on. “Like this lamp. Fix this up, and it’ll be as good as new. Then all we need is a good pitch and b’am,” he punched his palm, “sold.”
“You can’t do that with everything here,” said Komaru. He put his hands onto his hips.
“Not with that attitude! But with the right mindset, you could sell anything here, guaranteed.”
Yasuhiro rubbed his finger against his nose, grinning like a fool. Some things changed, but others stayed remarkably the same. Byakuya’s gaze drifted over to Touko, who was scowling at Yasuhiro. Touko was both different and the same. Different, because she stood firm where she used to cower, and she let others into her world where she used to cloak herself in darkness.
And same because while like Byakuya, she had learned to allow herself to rely on friends and for friends to rely on her, she was still head over heels in love with him.
She pointed at a black bag containing hunks of metal. “What sales pitch do you have for this?”
“Easy! All you have to do is make the contents into sculptures,” replied Yasuhiro. “Their only purpose is to be admired, ‘right? Add a backstory to go with them and boom, sold. You can do that to practically anything even if it’s trash.”
“No way,” said Aoi.
“Want to bet?”
The group roused to accept his challenge. Makoto found a used wipe container, and Yasuhiro clicked his fingers and said to fill it with plastic bags, turning it into a dispenser that was portable and could fit easily into a car drawer. Aoi presented him with pizza boxes, at which Yasuhiro laughed and demanded more so they could be decked in wrapping paper and transformed into a drawer unit. When Komaru found a metal pipe, Yasuhiro claimed it needed a clean and spray paint and it could sit contentedly on a shelf.
Yasuhiro even sucked Byakuya and Touko into the game. The cork in Byakuya’s hand changed into a keychain, and Yasuhiro’s voice fashioned an old juice carton into a recyclable purse ideal for coins and trips to the arcade. Each item that the others found, Yasuhiro repurposed it into something else.
“There has to be something you can’t reuse,” Komaru insisted. She peeled the lid open on a cardboard box and lifted out a hardback red book from inside it. “What about these photos? Who’d want to have pictures of strangers?”
“Photos?” said Kyouko, intrigued.
“Yeah, there are a whole load of albums in here. I went through a few earlier but didn’t recognise anyone, so I forgot about them.”
Touko rolled her eyes. “Typical...”
Kyouko and Aoi each took out an album. The box seemed to contain several of them, their covers glazed in dust and cobwebs.
“Gekkogahara-san is in this one,” said Kyouko within a few seconds of skimming.
By now, the rest of the group had gravitated over. Inside the album that Kyouko was holding, the photographs were contained in plastic flaps that overlapped so only the one on top could be seen unless it was flicked up, revealing the photograph beneath. In the photograph currently on display, Miaya Gekkogahara was sitting next to a pale guy with dark hair and dark shadows under his eyes, who Byakuya recognised as Yasuke Matsuda. They appeared to be seated at a computer desk, their heads turned toward the photographer.
“It’s really her,” murmured Makoto. “And not a robot masquerading as her.”
“Do you think these are all photos of her class?” asked Yasuhiro as he and the others picked up their own photo albums to browse.
“If that’s true, then everyone in these are deceased,” said Touko.
Aoi winced. “When you phrase it like that, this feels kind of morbid.”
Makoto flipped through a few flaps in the album in his hands. Then his creased forehead exploded as his eyebrows shot up. “This album contains our class!”
Everyone crowded around him. The photograph showed a pink room with a television screen hanging on the wall. Blurred writing glowed on it that Byakuya struggled to decipher. In front of it, Couch seats were positioned around three sides of a table, and on the seats sat members of their class. The only classmate not in the photograph was Sakura.
“Sakura-chan must have been taking the photograph,” said Aoi. “No way would our class exclude her.”
Holding the album in one hand, Makoto scratched his head with his other.
“I vaguely recall this,” he said. “Kuwata-kun... yes, I think it was him... booked a karaoke room, and the whole class packed in. All of us sang at least once.”
While Future Foundation had aided them in recovering from the memory loss inflicted by Junko, some memories were stronger than others. For Byakuya, he could recall plenty of events, but none came with any emotion attached. It was as though he was reading about them in a newspaper afterwards.
“Byakuya-sama graced us with his voice,” Touko piped up. The ends of her lips curled upward as she squeezed her hands together. “I r-remember... he made the air taste like chocolate syrup... his words spread a chill across my skin... ah...”
Byakuya remembered performing a single song, but he hated singing, and he couldn’t remember what compelled him to accept a microphone.
“Enoshima tried to steal such a precious memory from us.” Aoi rubbed the heel of her hand against her eye. “Sakura-chan sang a beautiful song about friendship. Her voice washed over the room like the ocean.”
Kyouko placed a hand onto Aoi’s shoulder. Komaru flicked through the other photographs in the album. Byakuya didn’t pay Komaru any more mind, frowning at Touko as she seemed to relive the experience of him singing. Her recollection appeared much more intimate than his own. Part of him wanted to ask her for more details. Another part was repulsed.
Komaru gasped.
“What is it?” asked Makoto as they all focused on the album again. The photograph that had captured her attention depicted Byakuya. Nothing extraordinary appeared to be in the photograph - he was sitting on a bench at an angle, not facing the camera.
Yet the others stared with their mouths agape.
“I have never seen Togami-chi smile like that,” said Yasuhiro.
Byakuya inspected the photograph closer. Though it had been taken at a distance - probably so he wouldn’t realise someone was taking a photograph of him - there was a definite smile gracing his lips. It wasn’t a smirk, or a cruel grin, or the faint curve he sometimes showed around his friends, but a smile showing teeth, one that didn’t just meet his eyes, but made his gaze, no, his face glow.
What he was looking at, however, was unclear. It was now that Byakuya realised the photograph had been torn, and the section that held the object of his attention wasn’t in the album.
“It must have been something amazing to have made him smile back then,” said Yasuhiro.
They all turned to Byakuya, who pursed his lips.
“Putting aside whether I would tell you if I knew, I don’t actually recall when this took place,” he said.
“Maybe we could help jog your memory?” Aoi suggested. “When I want to remember something, I write it on my palm three times.”
“That won’t help,” said Touko. “You can only do that while you still remember the thing.” Her teeth gritted. “Argh... if only I knew what could have elicited such a pure smile from Byakuya-sama...!”
She dragged her fingers down her face.
“It’s not a big deal,” said Byakuya. While the others burned with curiosity, discomfort stewed in his gut like when he had watched Touko reminisce about the karaoke session.
Like the rest of the group, he also wondered what could have driven out such a grin from him, out in the open like that. Worse, it could have not been a ‘what’, but a ‘who’. He had prided himself on never letting anyone slip under his skin, never letting anyone become close to him. Learning to rely on others, and let others rely on him, was one thing. This felt more personal, like a kick to the stomach.
“There has to be some way to reawaken the memory,” said Komaru, her tone light without the burden of his thoughts. She turned to Kyouko. “You must know a way.”
“Must I?” Kyouko’s eyebrows rose.
“Because you’re from a detective family,” said Aoi, nodding.
“Actually...” Komaru’s smile cringed on her face. “I um... just assume Kyouko-chan knows everything.”
“There are a few techniques we can try,” said Kyouko, faintly amused. “Perhaps if we pinpoint when and where exactly the photograph took place, that may stir something in Togami-kun’s brain.”
Other than Byakuya, no one else was in the frame. A briefcase leaned against a bench leg and a pile of papers rested on his lap. Annoyingly, he couldn’t see any writing that may have been on the papers. In the photograph, he wasn’t looking at them. He was focused on the nothingness where the other half of the photograph should have been.
“That has to be the main plaza,” said Aoi. “I recognise the benches. Sakura-chan and I finished our morning runs there. Then we would sit down and drink some water. We never saw Togami there though.”
“Yeah. That looks like the fountain at the back,” added Makoto.
Kyouko stroked her chin. “The sliver of sky in the background appears rather pale, and judging by the colour of the leaves, it’s approximately autumn.”
“Togami-chi never missed a lesson, so it had to be late-afternoon at the latest, ‘right?” said Yasuhiro.
“Unless it was the weekend,” Makoto pointed out, prompting Yasuhiro to exhale frustratedly through his teeth. The thoughtful expression on Kyouko’s face, however, didn’t waver.
“We can deduce whether he had lessons on that day,” said Kyouko.
“How?” asked Aoi.
Byakuya already knew. “I’m not in uniform.”
“Indeed,” said Kyouko with a bob of her head. “So unless you changed into another outfit after your lessons, this scene transpired at the weekend.”
“Does that ring any bells for you?” Komaru asked Byakuya, clasping her hands together, eyes wide with optimism. “Visiting the plaza on the weekend, and catching sight of something that brings joy to your face...?”
His jaw clenched. All of them were staring at him. They had a campus as large as four high schools to clear and they had only made a dent so far, but the arduous task appeared to have been pushed aside in favour of probing his brain for some memory. Oh, how they tried his patience at times.
“I can’t say it brings anything to mind, though it is unusual for me to be there,” he said in a level tone. “Usually, during the weekend, I would be indoors, either in my room or in the library.”
Certainly not at the plaza. Certainly not with a brazen smile chipped into his face.
“I think we’ve followed the photograph’s lead as far as it can go,” said Yasuhiro. “Now we must turn to guesswork. If we bounce ideas off each other, that might help Togami-chi remember. Perhaps you had come from a meeting, where you struck a billion dollar deal?”
“Or you emerged from the cafeteria after they served some tasty donuts?” Aoi chimed in.
Byakuya’s frown sank in deeper.
“Or you finished a really good manga?” said Komaru.
“Or listened to a good song?” added Makoto.
Yasuhiro clicked his fingers. “I once read that listening to music is a good way to stir up memories. If we find a piece with the right mood, Togami-chi ought to remember the scene!”
“What sort of mood do you guys reckon we should play?” asked Komaru as she shoved her hand into her coat.
“Something cheerful,” said Aoi.
Komaru retrieved her phone from her pocket and tapped on her screen. A few seconds later, a series of beeps sang out of her phone, playing over the sound of clapping and a fast drumbeat. She side-stepped back and forth to the rhythm, and Byakuya lasted until the first few lines of Swedish auto tuned singing.
“Turn that off,” snapped Byakuya. “It’s not helping me think. It’s giving me a headache instead.”
With a pout, Komaru switched it off.
“Perhaps we should visit the location,” said Kyouko.
Touko’s brow creased. “Won’t it be dark?”
“Don’t worry, Touko-chan, our phones can provide you with light,” Komaru assured her, patting Touko on the shoulder.
They set off, departing from the old theatre and winding through corridors toward the plaza. Byakuya stayed silent, lagging behind most of the others slightly. Only Touko seemed to take note of this, and though she didn’t speak to him, she hovered further back than him, and he could feel her eyes on the back of his neck like flies crawling against his skin.
As they drew closer, he concluded that they wished so desperately to discover the source of his smile because they planned to use it against him. Perhaps they intended to humiliate him, or blackmail or manipulate him. But they were his friends, weren’t they? Surely they didn’t plan on using what they learned against him?
Yet... if that wasn’t the case, then why?
The plaza was no longer the picturesque location it once was. It couldn’t have been in a brochure promoting the academy, like the photograph in the album. Weeds grew between upturned slabs, gnarled fingers reaching toward the sky. Nearby, the rubble corpse of the fountain didn’t spout water, dry as sun bleached bone. They all stood silently for a while, observing their surroundings. There were no benches to sit on.
“It sure has changed a lot,” said Yasuhiro.
“It’ll do. Hagakure, bend over on all fours.” Aoi pointed at her feet. “You will play the part of the bench.”
Yasuhiro balked. “Why me? You’re stronger.”
Her stare didn’t relent. He managed a few more seconds before he dropped to his knees and planted his hands in front of himself. Once he was in position, Aoi turned to Byakuya expectantly.
“I am not sitting on him,” said Byakuya flatly.
“Please, Togami-san!” Komaru pleaded, shaking her phone in both hands. Light from the screen danced across her face and when her hands stilled, so did the glow. It seeped into her skin, accentuating the crinkle between her eyebrows and the stare from her eyes that pulled, pulled, pulled at Byakuya until he snapped.
“Why are you all making a big deal of this?” Byakuya asked not only Komaru, but all of them. He flung up a hand. “There is a photograph of me smiling. That’s it. It concerns me that you’re so obsessed with finding out what caused me to smile.”
His question clenched them in its jaws, burning the air with acid. He waited for one of them to answer. For Touko to do more than fidget, and Komaru to stop chewing her lip. Finally, the pressure squeezed out a response from Makoto.
“You’re our friend,” said Makoto. “You’re usually so serious, and you rarely ever seem happy. We thought if we could find out what made you that happy back then...”
“... we could bring that happiness back to you now,” finished Touko, curling her fingers into her palms. Byakuya tensed.
That explanation had never occurred to him. For most of his life, he had been forced to be on the defensive, to anticipate betrayals and attacks from anyone. Then again, for most of his life, he hadn’t been acquainted with people like this. Friends. He grimaced, staring at Touko for several long seconds before averting his gaze and pushing up his glasses.
“Nuisances...” But he seated himself on Yasuhiro’s back, setting his feet firmly on the ground.
Byakuya tried to imagine the sky was a pool of water, not ink, and that he was on a bench, and that water streamed from a fountain behind him. However, the air remained as dry and dark as his mouth, and no matter how often his mind mended the slabs of the plaza, they would crack and decay within moments.
“Anything?” said Touko, wringing her hands.
He folded his arms over his chest.
“No,” said Byakuya. A collective sigh spread, though Makoto was soon grinning again.
“I guess we’ll have to keep trying to make you happy.”
Byakuya clicked his tongue, but his lips twitched outward and he quickly hid it behind his hand. Nuisances.
“Does this mean you can stand up now?” Yasuhiro asked from beneath Byakuya.
Aoi stretched her arms upward, arching her back, and yawned. “We ought to call it a day. It’s getting late.”
While the others headed toward the dormitory building that they were currently living in. Byakuya stayed where he was. Their footsteps faded, the glow of their phones shrinking into five pinpricks of light before disappearing completely. Despite his friends’ efforts, they had failed to uncover the story of the photograph. Now that he knew their motives hadn’t been nefarious, he could appreciate their attempts and found himself wondering what had happened all those years ago.
“It’s a shame we don’t know what made you so happy back then,” said Touko next to him, echoing his thoughts. She hadn’t retired for the night with the others. He glanced at her, meeting her gaze. Her phone shone a light against her wistful expression.
“I suppose so,” he said in a casual tone.
“With many of my memories, I don’t recall exact details, but they evoke certain feelings.”
His eyebrows rose a fraction in interest. “Oh?”
“Yes. For example, standing here... is stirring some emotion in me. I think I have a memory associated with this place too.”
Byakuya turned his whole body to face her.
“What emotion?” he asked.
She didn’t answer right away, as if letting the thought sit on her tongue, tasting it.
“Warmth,” she said. “Like the warmth I feel when I’m with you. Perhaps I will never remember what happened to give me that feeling. B-But... I have many other precious memories... and I can work on creating more with you, Byakuya-sama.”
Her lips twisted into a smile. Meanwhile, his insides twisted, much like they did whenever she referred to him in a romantic manner. He had been experiencing the sensation more frequently around her lately. Sometimes, all she had to do was meet his gaze or brush against him, and his stomach would coil like she had pressed her lips against his.
“Byakuya-sama?” Touko’s voice broke into his thoughts. “A-Are you feeling all right?”
He did not want to think what about his face had made her ask that all of a sudden.
“I’m fine,” he said, and he adjusted his glasses. “We’ve dawdled here for long enough. Let’s return to the dormitories.”
“Together?” blurted Touko. Without a word, Byakuya strode away, and she darted after him, keeping abreast. “Are you going straight to sleep when you arrive back?”
His eyes stayed forward.
“No. I will have some tea and read first,” he replied.
“What do you plan on reading?”
“Out by Natsuo Kirino,” he said. Her head jerked back.
“I r-recently finished that!”
“I know. After seeing you reading it, I thought I would give it a try. I was more interested when I learned that it’s not a romance, but a crime novel.”
“I specialise in romance, but I read for a variety of genres,” she said. “I can recommend some more books i-if you want. Have you read The Inugami Clan? You may find the start slow, but I think you will enjoy the cast and the premise...”
He listened as they walked back together. The more she spoke, the more passionate she became, and he couldn’t help looking at her as she lit up, waving her arms around.
A smile poked at the corners of his lips, and he finally felt a sense of déjà vu.

I adore your headcanons for them, so shall ask for 8 and 23! Sorry to keep bugging you with asks!
ask game
omg thank u sm!!! you’re not bugging me at all i love answering these! <3
8. nicknames? & if so, how did they originate?
i can’t really see them using nicknames/petnames unless it’s as a joke or to piss each other off. like after a long day of bickering and they’re on each other’s last nerve and someone (probably misa or matsuda) asks if they’re alright L says something like “oh yes, my darling and i are just fantastic.” Light would go along with it like “yeah, what would i do without L, my dearest lover?”
cue several minutes of tension-fused romantic name calling.
i’ve also mentioned this before, but i love the idea of L calling Light ‘Kira-kun’ just to annoy him.
23. who comes up with the cheesy pickup lines?
Misa would absolutely try to act as L’s wingwoman and offer him all kinds of cheesy pickup lines that he does not need. at some point L will randomly throw one out there and Light is so caught off guard he can’t decide whether to cringe or laugh, so he does both. if he’s in a mood he’ll just stare at L blankly because he is so, so tired. Misa is upset that L uses them jokingly, she put her heart into them!

pls post your nct death note fancast
omg ok so i only have strong-ish opinions about some characters based on personality basically cuz the closest thing to acting i've seen most of the ncts do is their weird improv sketches they post on youtube but anyway. also going based on the anime cuz i've watched it multiple times and have only read some parts of the manga. posting under a read more because this is embarrassing and also very long
light - ok so. the easy answer for me is jaehyun cuz he's a quiet, but charismatic guy that can get a little weird. he also has had light's haircut/hair color before so it's easy to picture him in the role. light also has a flair for the dramatics which like as lowkey as jaehyun acts like he is he loves a flair. another person i think could believably play a super genius with like five girlfriends and strong ideas about justice is kun (or maybe even yangyang). i think doyoung fits 2/3 of those traits + dramatic flair but idk if he could capture light's philandering
l - this could be swayed by the fact that he dressed as him for halloween before, but i think yuta would be a good l. i think he could pull of l's weird gestures well, but he's also pulled back enough to play a very analytical character. i could maaaybe see taeyong as l too from a stylistic standpoint (big eyes, a lil weird) but yuta has the right theatrics. also yuta as l and jaehyun as light feels correct.
ryuk - so this i'm genuinely split on. ryuk's a character that just kinda does stuff without much intention, but out of boredom. he's annoying lol but in a generally harmless way. so my picks would be johnny or haechan. i skew more towards johnny because he's more chill and has longer limbs LMAO my other pick is jaemin
matsuda - maarrkk. matsuda's so earnest and well-meaning and that's how mark comes off to me. matsuda can also be naive and too trusting, which i think mark could play up well since he seems pretty genuine. alt answer, jungwoo for similar reasons. jw's a little more snarky than mark, and mark's more of an everyman, but he's got an innocent face that i think would give the right impact when he realizes the truth
mello - here i think doyoung would slot in well. i feel they try to characterize doyoung as more like. steely, cool, former straight-a student type, which like, i agree. but the other members pick on him so often and he puts hands on people enough that i think someone as smart, ambitious, and also angry as mello would be a good fit for him. his matt can be jaehyun if he's not playing light other than that spin the roulette wheel
near - chenle mostly because he's got the boy genius narrative
mikami - xiaojun, kinda like doyoung he's marketed as kinda steely and cool, but you watch one extra video and know that he's like. not that to say the least. i could see him in a role like mikami, super dedicated, a fanboy, and also really loud. tries to be cool but fails D;
that's basically all the major-ish male characters. uhhhhhh yeah. who are your picks anon!!!!!

Ryouko Otonashi Ficlets #3
For @ryokosmemoryweek
Day 3: Nostalgic Memory // Longing Memory
“R-Ryouko-chan, I’m here, I’m here.”
“Waaaaaah!”
“R-Ryouko-chan...”
Whoever they are, they’re pleading. I don’t even remember what I was upset about, just that I’m upset. And this person—she has a face that kind of annoys me. Am I supposed to know who she is? Sniffling, I glared at her.
“Who are you again?”
She seems more resigned than taken aback.
“I’m...your older sister... Mukuro.”
“I don’t have an older sister, I would have written about it,” I snapped, and I even look through my journal. Just as I thought, the name Mukuro doesn’t come up but what does come up is—
“Eh? Matsuda-kun’s gone...? U-Uuu... Uuuu...”
“R-Ryouko-chan!” someone exclaims, fretting. “Please don’t cry! I’m here, I’m here! L-Let’s do something together to take your mind off things!”
“I don’t want to do anything with you!” I wailed. “I don’t even know who you aaaaare!”
“I-I’m your sister!” she exclaimed back. “Mukuro! I’m Mukuro! Muku-nee! Do you really not—?!”
Rather than listen, I just wept and wept. Wept until I forgot, and she was a stranger to me once more. She was rubbing my shoulder and rubbing my back. I immediately wanted to yank myself away, but—this girl... She looked so unbelievably pitiful that I couldn’t help but feel a little bad for her. Whoever she was.
“U-Um...” I was hiccupping now. My throat hurt. My eyes hurt. My head hurt. Had I been crying? “Thank you...”
“It’s okay, Ryouko-chan,” she mumbled meekly. “I’m just...sorry. I’m sorry I can’t do more for you.”
“There’s not much that can be done for me,” I replied, rubbing at my throat. “I’m kinda—hopeless, given my condition. But, it’s not so bad. Like this, I can get hurt and quickly get over it. Because I...won’t remember.”
This girl... She’s looking at me so, so, so pitifully. Almost pleadingly. Except I have nothing to give her?
“We...” The girl swallowed, managing a pretty pathetic smile. “We knew each other as kids. Before you...got like this.”
“Really? Like with Matsuda-kun?” I perked up. I then frowned as I thought it over quickly. I had to before I forgot. I opened my journal, making a note on a new page. “My heart doesn’t respond to you at all, so we must not have known each other all that well.”
“We didn’t,” she confirmed. But for some reason, she sounds so sad about it. “I wish we did, but we didn’t. It’s my fault. I...moved away.”
“It’s okay,” I say without really thinking. “I don’t remember you, and I’m not gonna remember you... So, it’s okay. It doesn’t really matter.”
She stares at me. Longing and intense. Desperate and needy. I blinked—and I startle back.
“W-Who are you? I-I’m sorry, I don’t—I don’t have anything to give you... I don’t...” But before I can get further away, she grabs my wrist and yanks me close. I yelp as her arms wrap around me tight, and it’s an unbreakable embrace. “E-Eep...!”
“It’s okay,” she murmurs into my hair. “I’ll be with you from now on, Ryouko-chan. I promise.”
Scary...!

Future Unknown, Future Decided
-Day 4: Nighttime-
Tumblr media
Welcome back! How was the trip?
Tumblr media
Uneventful. We waited around for the helicopters to be loaded and then came straight back.
Tumblr media
We did talk to Orwell-san for a while whilst the helicopters were getting loaded.
Tumblr media
It seems the American resistance are doing pretty well for themselves. It’s good to see.
Tumblr media
I’m glad to hear that. They’ll still need our help once the fighting is over-
Tumblr media
Oi, Yukizome...what are you planning to do once everything is over? With those that’ll be released from the brainwashing?
Tumblr media
What do you mean?
Tumblr media
I suppose that response should have been expected. What I mean is when everyone is released from the brainwashing after the fight is over, what support systems are the Future Foundation working on to help the victims?
Tumblr media
...I...I think that question is better suited for Gekkougahara-san, don’t you?
Tumblr media
Piece of advice: if you really want to act like a leader, you should be making the duties of all branches your business. I don’t want to have to deal with a shitty replacement for a previously, slightly less shitty, leader.
Tumblr media
Are you seriously trying to tell me the Chairman never discussed that with the other branch heads? It never came up in a meeting?
Tumblr media
W-well-
Tumblr media
My god, I knew you guys weren’t the smartest but I never thought it was this bad.
Tumblr media
Matsuda-kun-
Tumblr media
This is more of a point that needs to be heard by those who have been branch heads since the beginning. So, this isn’t so much directed to you, Samidare. But this is something Orwell brought up to us, and I gave her my word that we’d have something in place.
Tumblr media
But it seems I was expecting too much.
Tumblr media
L...Like I said, I’m sure Gekkougahara-san has been thinking of something.
Tumblr media
You better hope so, otherwise we’ll be dealing with a lot of worldwide levels of grief. That’s not exactly a project you should be expecting Gekkougahara-san to deal with herself.
Tumblr media
...lucky for her, I’ll lend a hand. I have a few ideas floating around but she should be able to help me make sense of them and tweak them.
Tumblr media
You want to take on a task like that?
Tumblr media
I wouldn’t act so surprised. I was a travelling doctor before I came here. Plus, I can use it as a bargaining chip to get out of prison. Community Service or something like that.
Tumblr media
You’re still pretty unpleasant, you know that?
Tumblr media
You still put up with it.
Tumblr media
...alright. I can work something out. Instead of a prison sentence, a worldwide task with the focus on helping those who have been affected by the brainwashing should be a suitable “punishment”.
Tumblr media
If you work closely with Gekkougahara-san and Irunami-kun you’ll probably come up with something great! I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
Tumblr media
Hmph. Obviously.

Note
Capcom puts you in charge of overseeing the next Street Fighter game. What characters are in your initial line-up, what new characters are you adding (you can use general archetypes like a blind gypsy), and what makes your entry far superior than the others? *great big squishy Hadoken hugs*
Interesting… Hmm… Well to start there would be two separate games SF VI Delta Dawn & SF VI Omega Break. One story would follow most of the old guard in a tournament held by the returning Shadaloo. The other would have the younger fighters be part of a tournament held by Kanzuki Zaibatsu. And if you have both games on a system the storylines connect and a new boss storyline with Gill is unlocked. _____ Shadaloo returns to prominence, but Bison is not in charge. Ingrid has taken over after being corrupted by the psycho-power she absorbed from him in SF Alpha 3 MAX. Joining her would be Vega, Rolento, Balrog, & Decapre. I might also include the other three ‘Code Holders’ DD, Rook, & Death. They also have the Dolls (with three/four new ones to replace Decapre and those that defected – Juli, Juni, & Noembelu). F.A.N.G. would have stayed loyal to Bison and in a semi-abandoned lab rebuilt a smaller psycho-drive to repower Bison. So yeah, sort of a Shadaloo civil war going on in the background of the game. Ed & Falke are joined in the Neo-Shadaloo by Abel as he senses the familial connection. They continue to work towards undoing Shadaloo’s evils. Maybe add Necro & Effie to the group. SF VI Delta Dawn – Ryu, Ken Masters, Zangief, Chun Li, Guile, Cody, Guy, Dhalsim, Cammy White, Rose, Ed, Falke, Abel, Necro, Dudley, Juli, Dee Jay, E. Honda, Sagat, Q, & Crimson Viper. With the Shadaloo characters (Ingrid, Vega, Rolento, Balrog, Decapre, maybe a Doll or two, F.A.N.G., & Bison) would be unlockable. ~~~~~~~~~ Kanzuki Zaibatsu story has Karin Kanzuki, Birdie, Rainbow Mika, & Eagle representing the corporation. S.I.N. is also moving along in the background as a separate group led by Juri Han & Seth. Blade, F7, Arkane, & Khyber from the movie game would make their first appearances in the main series as S.I.N. soldiers. SF VI Omega Break – Sakura, Elena, Ibuki, Yun, Yang, El Fuerte, Sean Matsuda, Laura Matsuda, Maki, Alex, Shin, Zeku, Menat, Dan Hibiki, Rufus, Akira, Makoto, Fei Long, Adon, & Tracy Lords (from Rival Schools). As with the DD story the Kanzuki Zaibatsu and S.I.N. fighters are unlockable.
Each storyline would have segments referencing the other. Unlocked characters would be usable in either game And if you had both would lead up to where Gil is manipulating events. With Gill’s Secret Society is around with Urien, Kolin, Charlie Nash, & Twelve would be added into the mix.
Other returning World Warriors that could be downloaded would include Blanka, T. Hawk, Poison, Hugo, Abigail, Akuma, Oro, Rashid, Makati, Gouken, Gen, Juni, G, Remy, Hakan, Oni, Necalli, Kage, & Lucia. I would attempt to get the EX characters to return: Blair Dame, Cracker Jack, Skullomania, Pullum Purna, Kairi, Darun Mister, Hokuto, Allen Snider, Garuda, Gouki, Cycloid γ, Cycloid ß, Hayate, Sharon, Shadowgeist, Doctrine Dark, Vulcano Rosso, Nanase, Area, Ace, etc. I would also try to get the Ryu Ranger and Rising Phoenix Ranger forms of Ryu & Chun Li from the Power Rangers Battle for the Grid game.
As for new characters, well Delta Dawn would have: Hoss, a new redneck overalls wearing Sumo fighter loosely based on a character from one of the tabletop RPG supplements. Malcolm, a Scottish born mma fighter that dresses like he was competing at a highlands game. Dr. Antone Metze, a German acupressure practitioner and jeet kun do fighter who usually is in a turtleneck with the sleeves rolled up and slacks. And Lorena Parra, a Chilean judoka in capris and a knit sweater. Omega Break would include: Pia Rendón, a master of Kali in an a-shirt & cargo pants. Bryce, a Canadian lumberjack trained in Native American Wrestling. Harbinger, a special forces trained Merc. The bookish, teenage Brazilian sumo Áurea Ramos. And the Australian brawler Isla Cox.

Intimacy versus isolation is the sixth stage of Erik Erikson's theory of psychosocial development. This stage takes place during young adulthood between the ages of approximately 18 to 40 yrs.
During this period, the major conflict centers on forming intimate, loving relationships with other people. We begin to share ourselves more intimately with others. We explore relationships leading toward longer-term commitments with someone other than a family member.
Successful completion of this stage can result in happy relationships and a sense of commitment, safety, and care within a relationship. Avoiding intimacy, fearing commitment and relationships can lead to isolation, loneliness, and sometimes depression. Success in this stage will lead to the virtue of love.
– “ Erik Erikson's Stages of Psychosocial Development”
...if we want the rewards of being loved, we must submit to the mortifying ordeal of being known.
– “I Know What You Think of Me”
this post is the second in a series about the tv drama! if you haven’t read the first part, you don’t have the full picture! read it HERE
this post is going to focus on L, and namely the way his relationships forge him into a better person across the span of the tv drama, and then it’s going to close off the cliffhanger on the previous post!
at the beginning of the series, the L we meet is decidedly not a good person. he’s not moralistic in the slightest, and we see him perform some pretty ghastly human rights violations across the series. he loves to say he's “just” and that the people he’s fighting against are evil, to the point that where soichiro questions him, he denies kira’s humanity by comparing him to a demon or devil:
Soichiro: You’ve gone too far. L: You shouldn’t think of Kira as human. He’s the devil.
-- Episode 1
Tumblr media
[photo: a close up shot of L. we see him from the shoulders up, wearing his usual white ensemble, dark hair a mess. he is looking up at something above the camera. he is saying, "This Kira is a devil stained in greed."]
-- Episode 6
he’s very much like light in that regard. but he believes he has a right to spit in the face of basic human rights because the ends justify the means and that makes him, specifically, justified to do whatever he wants.
Matsuda: Sir, L just confirmed Kira’s existence and where he’s hiding in one fell swoop. Aizawa: Matsuda! Mogi: Pipe down. You saw that he sacrificed the life of a man to do it, even if he was scheduled to die. He’s doing the same thing Kira is.
-- Episode 1
worse, when called out on it directly by members of the task force (other than soichiro, generally speaking), L tends to throw it back in their faces by bringing up their fears of being killed by Kira if they don’t allow him to do what he wants:
Matsuda: You need to stop this at once! There must be other ways of investigating! L: Are you going to start an inquiry? Exposing your name and face to Kira? Mogi: This is a human rights violation. This would cost us more than our jobs. L: I thought we were risking our lives for this investigation, not our jobs.
-- Episode 4
Mogi: L, all else aside, this is a violation of human rights! L: Would you like to conduct the interrogation in the room itself? Showing your face to her?
-- Episode 6
this is exacerbated by the fact that L isn’t a detective because he genuinely believes in detective work as a way to enact justice. this is L's hobby. he's here to win, not to do the good thing, because that's not his style. he comes in on difficult that he thinks will be a good way to entertain himself and stretch his imagination, and then he solves them, and then he wins.
L: But that’s no reason to just give up and turn yourself in, Kira. You’re going to be found and your method of killing exposed...  by me.
-- Episode 1
L: It didn't matter to me who the perpetrator was. On the contrary, I thought that to solve a crime with no clues at all would be the greatest thrill possible.
-- Episode 8
worst of all is that, while he justifies his human rights violations and outright torture of light and misa with it being a necessity, drama L--unlike in other adaptations--approaches it with utter glee, laughing as he keeps light awake for days on end and light begins to lose his sense of time, even while lying about kira not being active.
L: Light-kun! Don’t go to sleep! Kira hasn’t shown up yet.
L: [laughing] Are you okay? It appears your sense of time is beginning to atrophy.
-- Episode 6
so, in the beginning, L is, as i said, very much not moralistic. he's never had his perspective challenged in his life--near and watari are exactly the same way. watari is the one who enacts most of the things L says, and rarely offers dissent. when he does disapprove of L’s actions, he won’t do anything to stop them, and often won’t complain more than shaking his head and grumbling.
then he meets soichiro, and the very first thing soichiro does is ask:
Tumblr media
[photo: soichiro yagami sitting at a desk. matsuda is standing behind him, and himura is standing a little further back. yagami is wearing a suit and tie, speaking to L on a laptop computer. he is asking, "What do you think human life is?"]
-- Episode 1
and soichiro questions L about lind L tailor for a little bit, demanding to know if L suspected the man could die. and L argues that he had permission, but later he  calls on soichiro specifically to help him. this is partially because of soichiro’s hostage situation that paves the way for a lot of L’s suspicion on light, of course, but watari seems to think otherwise:
Watari: That’s unusual. You never invite people to meet you. Did his scolding have an effect on you, then? You like him, don’t you? L: ... Watari: You don’t meet many people who can leave you speechless.
-- Episode 1
later, L tells soichiro that L is fond of him directly:
L: I believe you are an extremely wonderful policeman. And to me, you are like a father, as well.
-- Episode 10
and soichiro calls out a lot of the things L does in these first episodes. L has been allowed to do whatever he wants for a long time; furthermore, he never shows himself to people aside from watari and near/mello. so soichiro is possibly the first person who matters who calls L out on something like lind L tailor, and is furious when L brings the FBI to Japan:
Soichiro: Either way, I can’t approve of FBI investigators having free reign to investigate on Japanese soil. I’m going to report this. [Soichiro leaves.] L: Do you think I made him angry? Watari: Oh, well... Quite.
-- Episode 2
later, when yotsuba-light comes on scene, the same thing happens, in a little way. yotsuba light scolds L whenever he’s a little bankrupt in the morals department and simultaneously is much, much more morally upright (in yotsuba arc) himself, asking L to be on the team so he could help stop kira (which moved L to taking off the handcuffs!). L says he thinks light has a lot of potential under the surface on multiple occasions, and credits himself for the transformation:
L: I appreciate your talent. Now, it’s possible that talent only blossomed since you met me... Maybe there was nothing to trigger it before, but there’s something very passionate sleeping inside you. I was thinking I could use that in the service of good.
-- Episode 5
Light: Please, let me help. I want to catch Kira with you. Soichiro: Light... Light: If we’re going to be tied together because you suspect me anyway, Ryuga, I want to be tied to you in purpose, as well. Matsuda: But Light-kun is a student... L: He’s no mere student. As the one who encouraged his talent to bloom, I guarantee this. Let’s catch Kira and finish this together.
-- Episode 7
furthermore, L believes yotsuba light--he doesn’t think he’s lying to him.
L: By the way, Light-kun, you wanted to enter public service, didn’t you? Light: Yeah. Why? L: The police are a public service, aren’t they? When you were a child, you wanted to be one, didn’t you? Light: When my mother died when I was a kid, my father was off chasing a criminal... I thought my father’s form of justice couldn’t be worth much, if he had to sacrifice even his family to see it through. But... yeah. Now I sort of feel like I understand. Because I feel the same way he did. I want to catch Kira, no matter what. L: [internally] From what I can see, this seems unlikely to be a performance to deceive us. Which means...
-- Episode 7
between soichiro and yotsuba light, L receives quite a bit of both feedback on his own actions and examples to go by.
there’s one major example of L’s change, morally speaking: when raye penber is approached by kira, L and watari are listening, but in an example of early L being deficit in the morals department, he doesn’t move to do anything. he doesn’t warn the FBI, he doesn’t stop raye. L tells watari not to do anything, because they have the opportunity to perhaps learn how Kira kills.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[photo 1:  a close up shot of L. he is staring wide-eyed to the viewer's left, holding a green lucky charge jelly pouch. he is asking, "You want to kill the whole FBI?"
photo 2:  L is sitting at his desk on his laptop, holding a lucky charge pouch and staring at his computer. watari stands beside him, wearing a brown suit and a bowtie, saying, "L..."
photo 3:  L again, at his desk in front of his laptop. he is holding a lucky charge pouch close to his mouth. he is saying, "We could learn how Kira kills."]
--  Episode 3
Matsuda: Then you used him as bait? L: I did it to catch Kira. I didn’t have a choice. Aizawa: Didn’t have a choice?!
-- Episode 4
and L, after the FBI in japan are wiped out is clearly affected, but it’s less guilt from all of the people he let die and more to do with perceiving himself as having lost.
L: After I was so close to learning how Kira kills...
L: This time, I lost.
-- Episode 3
flash forward forward to yotsuba arc and yotsuba light and specifically the final confrontation with higuchi. higuchi, now with the shinigami eyes, is now going to the drama version of sakura TV to kill matsuda. they have this exchange:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[photo 1: light speaking into a wireless microphone. we see him from the shoulders up, wearing black. he is saying, "Dad, arrest Higuchi the minute he gets there."
photo 2: a close up shot of L and light. we cannot see light's face, as he's turned to L in surprise. L says into a microphone, "No. Let's watch him a little longer."
photo 3:  the same scene, countermeasures. L is sitting at his desk, holding a microphone close to himself. light stands beside him, laptop open on the desk. he is asking L, "Hey. What are you talking about?"]
-- Episode 7
this is the perfect parallel to the raye penber situation. L wants to let higuchi continue to sakura TV and act unimpeded in his attempt to kill matsuda because at this stage they still don’t know how Kira kills, which is precisely how raye penber died. this time, however, light argues with him:
L: We haven’t established his method of killing yet. Light: This is Kira we’re dealing with! Matsuda-san and my dad are in danger! L: In order to catch Kira, we must confirm his way of killing. Light: People’s lives are on the line! Hey. All the names of the people killed so far are written in that notebook, right? That would be proof, wouldn’t it? Even if we learn how he kills people, if a comrade dies, that’s losing, in my opinion.
-- Episode 7
and this is the first real evidence that the yagamis are actively changing the way L operates, because he does.
L: Yagami-san, arrest Higuchi. Like the second Kira, Higuchi has become a Kira that can kill by face alone. Please keep that in mind when you arrest him.  Soichiro: Got it. Light: Ryuga... L: We won’t let the likes of Higuchi beat us. Let’s get that notebook as proof.
-- Episode 7
they do the mannequin swap and catch higuchi and nobody else dies.
soichiro has exactly the same impact-- in the manga, L dies because he's going to test the 13 day rule by having a prisoner on death row write in it, and if they don't die in 13 days they get to go free. this is what makes rem kill him to protect misa, because doing this, despite it being perhaps not the most morally upright thing, is guaranteed to prove that the 13 day rule is fraudulent.
he never does this in the drama, because when he tells soichiro he had the idea, they have this exchange:
L: I thought about negotiating with the Ministry of Justice to see if they would verify it by carrying out death sentences.  Soichiro: I can’t approve of that. Even if they’re on death row, they’re still people. If we take their lives indiscriminately, we’re no different than Kira. L: I thought you’d say that, so I decided not to.
-- Episode 8
yet again, L doesn’t go with the easy solution because interacting with the yagamis has inflicted him with some semblance of morality.
at this point, it’s important to discuss the nature of L and light’s relationship in the tv drama. for the most part, it’s similar to how it operates in the mangaverse, but with a major exception: L and light buy into their own manipulation. frequently, L and light call each other their friends:
L: Be my friend. That’s the favor I wanted.
--  Episode 4
Light: If I were Kira, I wouldn’t say that, would I? L: That’s true. I guess you really aren’t Kira after all. I certainly hope you aren’t, anyway. Because you’re the first friend I’ve ever had.
-- Episode 5
these incidents in the tv drama are just like in the manga: examples of L and light manipulating each other. the change arises when light loses his memories and thus the context of the mind games--he begins to earnestly believe that L and light are friends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[photo 1: a dimly-lit shot of only light's face. he is begging L, "Please believe me!"
photo 2: he asks, "We're friends, aren't we?"]
-- Episode 6
Matsuda: Did L tell you to call him Ryuga? Light: Yes. It’s the alias he used the first time we met. Matsuda: If you know it’s an alias, why do you call him that? Light: The truth is, I guess I’d rather he be my friend Ryuga than the detective L.
-- Episode 7
Light: I would have wanted to show you, too… The world Kira would create… If I could have… I’d have wanted… I’d have wanted to be your friend forever.
-- Episode 8
this in turn, combined with spending prolonged time with light during yotsuba arc, has an effect on L.
Near: Hey, why did you let Yagami Light in on the investigation? You think he’ll let something slip? L: That’s part of it.  Near: So you do think he’s Kira. L: I don’t know. Part of me wants him to be Kira. Part of me wouldn’t mind if he wasn’t.
-- Episode 7
it's the second part of that line from the drama i used as evidence earlier--
L: It didn't matter to me who the perpetrator was. On the contrary, I thought that to solve a crime with no clues at all would be the greatest thrill possible.  L: Then I met you, and for the first time, I became interested in a person.
-- Episode 8
thus begins the ending to episode 8 and the beginning of episode 9, which forms one coherent scene which i’ve nicknamed “the blue scene” as shorthand, so now you know what i mean when i reference it. the blue scene truly begins with L inviting light to an abandoned building--perhaps one under construction--and invites light to join him after presumably pondering the situation there for some time.
we learn from near THIS LITTLE COMMENT near the end of the show:
Near: L struggled over whether or not he should reveal your identity. It's possible he was trying to understand, in his own way, how you felt becoming Kira.
-- Episode 11
this mindset we can see during this scene where L is doing puzzles with near:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[photo 1:  a completely white puzzle with no designs or patterns. it is unfinished, piece pieces surrounding an empty gray space. L is thinking, "If Kira's power does move between people, then it must be the will of Kira himself."
photo 2: L, wearing an extremely neutral expression. he is holding up a white puzzle piece between his index and thumb, staring at it. he is thinking, "Even if Yagami Light's memories of being Kira have been erased--"
photo 3: L from the waist up, sitting down on the floor. near is sitting in front of him, although we can only see the back of his arm as he faces L. L's thought from the first photo continues with, "--could he still recover that ability?"
photo 4:  L rests his elbow on his knee, still sitting on the floor. his eyes are downcast. He is thinking, "I don't sense anything suspicious from Yagami Light."
photo 5:  L, staring down at the puzzle. He is thinking, "I just have to capture the current Kira and finish this."]
-- Episode 7
L makes a concentrated effort to understand how and why light became kira, as shown in the beginning of the blue scene when he asks light why he became kira in the first place and then tells him L’s best guess as to why--which, because L knows the situation and light himself so well at this point, is the correct answer.
L: Why did you start using this thing? Did you lose to the allure? The first time you killed someone, it was not fully understanding what the notebook did, right? Then you got scared and tried to throw it away, right? But you were forced into a situation where you had no choice but to use it.
L: Then Yagami Light became Kira. No... The voices of those who despised crime turned Yagami Light into Kira. But that’s just an excuse, isn’t it?
L: I want to stop you. Because we’re friends, you know? So admit you’ve lost. That you’re Kira.
-- Episode 8
and part of this is because he's been with yotsuba arc light. he likes him, he’s taken his advice. it's not as cut and dry as "i arrest light, i arrest Kira, and i win the game." anymore.
the entire episode 8 section of the blue scene is, to be clear, just a parallel of the scene where soichiro pretends to shoot light to prove he’s not kira. it's exactly the same. they bring light out, give light a scenario, and then threaten to murder him and see what happens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[photo 1: soichiro yagami, pointing a gun at his son. the first photo is from further away; we can see light cowering on the ground and staring down the barrel. he says, "As fellow murderers,”
photo 2: soichiro from the shoulders up, brow furrowed. he finishes, "let's meet again in Hell."]
-- Episode 6
Tumblr media
[photo:  the blue scene. the lighting is a saturated blue, tinting L's shirt and skin. he looks down, saying, "Then let's meet in the afterlife in thirteen days."]
-- Episode 8
whereas yotsuba-light passed the test, light in the blue scene does not.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[photo 1: light stands above L, who has been thrown against some construction materials and is laying on the ground. light is saying, "I can't afford to lose to you."
photo 2:  photo 2: from shoulders-up, we see light looking regretfully down at L. he is saying, "I'm creating a perfect world, without crime."]
-- Episode 8
that being said, in order to understand L and his decision making in this scene, you have to also understand that L thought that he was safe--that Light had no chance of getting his name. that was not part of the scenario in L's head. L had no way of predicting mikami being in the countermeasures office at that exact moment.
L spends the entire scene basically asking light over and fucking over again just to admit he's kira.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[photo 1: the first of multiple screenshots of the blue scene in which L is in various degrees of being brutalized, because he and light are fighting physically throughout. in the first, they are facing each other, standing. L says, "So admit you've lost."
photo 2: L is crouched over. we cannot see most of his face or expression. he says, "Then admit you've lost!"
photo 3: L is splayed against some construction materials. blood drips from the corner of his mouth. he is curled in on himself, covering his stomach with his arm. he is saying, "Will you admit you've lost and atone for your crimes,
photo 4: L finishes, “or write your own name in there and die?"]
-- Episode 8
given that the death note is fake L essentially gives him two options that ultimately amount to telling L that he’s Kira, except one of them is telling L he's kira with words and one of them is telling L he's Kira by trying to kill himself if light didn’t get mikami's help in that moment, his options are to do either of those things, deny it until soichiro and the rest arrived, leave outright, or... kill L with his bare hands, which is the most unlikely scenario here.
this is all the same reason why L doesn't really fight in the fight scene--he puts up the illusion of a fight, as though he wants Light to give up the note, but in reality he wants light to get the note.
if you watch through the scene, it plays out like this:
light slaps the death note out of his hands.
L bodychecks light into some, like, bags of padding so he doesn’t grab it.
light kicks L in the stomach with both feet.
L pushes light again once he grabs the death note. he does it once again once they both get to it.
light kicks L in the stomach for the second time. he then  grabs L on the ground and punches L in the face with such force that his skull bounces off the concrete.
L then walks off his concussion and actually punches light, actually attacking him for the only time during the sequence before yelling at him
light knees L in the stomach, for the third time; punches him in the face; and then kicks L in the stomach for the fourth time.
L falls against some boxes and sandbags and the fight is over.
the only time L actually hits light is the punch after light knocks his skull against the floor. the rest of the time he’s grappling because he wants Light to think he's in danger, and he wants to see who he really is. because he likes light. he likes light enough that he struggles enough with whether or not he wants to arrest him and tries to see his point of view, enough so that near knows about it and can comment about it. and light fails spectacularly. he gets the mikami message which is proof enough that he's kira on its own. if he stopped it there, that’s enough proof for an arrest. he didn't need light to write his name if it were a test to see if light is kira. but it isn't. because L already knew that. he wanted to know what light would do, and he found out.
L: Do you feel like you’re God? Light: Kira could become God!
-- Episode 9
which i think is why he’s so bent on having light confess in the first place. he's not doing it just to arrest the man, which is why it's a "who he is as a person" test. that's WHY it's the same as the yotsuba light test up until light fails, at which point they actually start very obviously drawing parallels to the lind L tailor test, which was lights first big failure and really the start of his moral event horizon and the beginning of their rivalry to begin with.
Lind L. Tailor: Justice always wins. Light: No, it doesn’t, That’s why Kira was born!
-- Episode 1
L: Justice always wins.  Light: No, it doesn’t. That’s why Kira was born.
-- Episode 9
but also more than that L wanted light to confess to him so that he could satisfy that part of him that started this, that has to Win the Game. the part of him that’s been taking cases all of this time. if light gives up L can say he won and satisfy that part of him, because up until now his moral compass was guided by what was most interesting to him, and of  course the kira case was as he said very interesting to him. but he wants to move on from it so that he can be friends with light. he wants to know that light trusts him too and wants to be friends so that he can have light work with him instead and use his genius constructively.
L mentions multiple times that since light has met L he’s had the chance to show the genius that was hidden because of light’s stagnant upbringing, and L wants light to work with him. at the end of light’s analysis post, i brought up that light believed the only way he could be happy is through the power and masculinity given to him through the note. i also linked tumblr user whoresband’s analysis, and once again i think it’s pertinent to share their thoughts:
L rejects social norms, he lives as he desires, and it is only men L becomes close with. L seems to heal with light. light inspires something kinder in him, something that wants to care and be cared for. and moreover, L ignites a spark in light, inspiring him to achieve and challenge himself and be better.
L’s rejection of society and closeness with other men is the route light couldve chosen and did not. L begging him to confess that he is kira is also a plea for him to confess that he loves L. L wanted light to see the value in loving him, to see how much he could be with him, and that his embrace of the social values that had caused him this pain was not the only way to free himself from that pain.
at the end of the show, in his final tape--the *what if* tape, which he created in the event that light was not kira, he expresses that he wants light to work with near.

[photo 1:  a very close image of a tablet watari is holding up. a video is playing, pre-recorded by L before his death. he is sitting in his chair at countermeasures, saying, "Light-kun, I'm sorry for doubting you."
photo 2:  watari and near at L's grave, which is headed by a very large white cross. near's back is to us. watari is still playing L's video. L is saying, "I believe that you'll become a great police officer like [Soichiro] Yagami-san some day.”
photo 3: a close up of watari holding the tablet. L onscreen continues, “If it suits you, you could also become a detective and work with Near."]
-- Episode 11
i think if light had confessed and showed that he was still the same as he was during yostuba arc, and more importantly still was friends with L, L wouldn’t necessarily have turned him into the police, and certainly wouldn’t have executed him. i think he might have tried to convince light to join him, to enact his sense of justice alongside L instead of as Kira.
in the end, though, what i think could have happened doesn’t matter. light rejected L’s offer, and they both died for it.
even still, there’s a point to be made about the symbolism in the tv drama--it’s incredibly overt. that’s a post for another day, but it’s worth mentioning that light is consistently symbolized by a moon hanging in the sky.
in the last shots of the tv drama, that moon hangs over L’s grave, together in death.
Tumblr media
[photo: a very serene scene. L's grave, located on an otherwise seemingly empty grassy hill. it is a large white cross. watari and near are leaving, going down the hill. in the cloudy blue sky, a full moon is visible just above L's grave marker.]

My Review of Toilet Bound Hanako-kun
Tumblr media
How did I… *giggles inappropriately like a 7 year old* What the hell kind of anime is this? Does this anime take place on the crapper? Shit, I gotta watch this mess!
Tumblr media
And seriously, who animated this? Was it the same guys that did Danganronpa?
Let me see…Studio Lerche…YEP! And that also explains why the main boy is played by Megumi Ogata again!
At Kamome Academy, there’s said to be seven wonders haunting the school. One of the wonders revolves around an apparition by the name of Hanako-kun. Hanako resides in the third stall of the third floor to the girl’s bathroom. It is believed that Hanako has the ability to grant any wish when summoned. We begin our tale with young girl, Nene Yashiro, seeking Hanako’s help to get a young boy to fall in love with her. But when she summons Hanako it is quickly discovered that Hanako is a boy living in a girl’s bathroom stall.
Tumblr media
Your guess is as good as mine! Add another questionable character Megumi Ogata plays!
Due to a misunderstanding with a mermaid artifact, Yashiro is now bound to Hanako. Kind of like a slave or a hostage or a new friend. However you interpret this contract! And then there’s this monk in training (named Minamoto) who has a vendetta against Hanako. So we see this guy throughout the series as well.
Tumblr media
Let’s have fun with the wacky misadventures of Yashiro, a gung-ho monk, and the toilet-bound spirit, Hanako-kun.
BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: This is a FUNimation licensed anime and they managed to dub several episodes prior to the COVID pandemic. I never got a chance to watch the dub, so I’ll just focus on the sub. Megumi Ogata is back to play another mysterious boy. And as for Akari Kitou, I’m starting to hear her a lot more often in the last two years. I really enjoyed her as Yashiro. Almost reminds me of her voice in Hitoribocchi! She’s in quite a bit of animes in 2020, so I would watch out for her. Here’s what you might recognize these folks from!
JAPANESE CAST: *Hanako is played by Megumi Ogata (known for Haruka/Uranus on Sailor Moon S, Yukito on CCS, Kurama on Yu Yu Hakusho, Naegi on Danganronpa, Shinji on Evangelion, Ayato on Angel Beats, and Yugi on YGO)
*Yashiro is played by Akari Kitou (known for Aru on Hitoribocchi, Kotoko on In/Spectre, and Kaho on Blend S)
*Minamoto is played by Shouya Chiba
ENGLISH CAST: *Hanako is played by Justin Briner (known for Deku on My Hero Academia, Yukito on CCS: Clear Card, Luck on Black Clover, and Mitarai on Danganronpa 3)
*Yashiro is played by Tia Ballard (known for Happy on Fairy Tail, Yamato on My Love Story, Kagura on Fruits Basket 2019, Komari on Little Busters, Zero Two on Darling in the FranXX, and Megumi on Shiki)
*Minamoto is played by Tyson Rinehart (known for Daru on Steins;Gate, Enji on Tokyo Ghoul, Hifumi on Danganronpa, Matsuda on High School DxD, and Bartolomeo on One Piece)
Tumblr media
SHIPPING: At the beginning of the series, it seems as though Yashiro was the type to fall in love easily with pretty-looking boys. But will always meet up with disappointment as all these boys prefer someone else or they suddenly have standards. There’s even a running joke about Yashiro having fat ankles (or daikon legs), that has been a turn-off to some of the boys that she falls for. But a few episodes later, we notice Yashiro having a little crush on Hanako. I shouldn’t question a little girl falling in love with a ghost who loiters around the girl’s bathroom because this is Japan. Absurdity at best! There’s also this sort of admiration that Minamoto has for Yashiro. I really didn’t think too much on that due to this anime laying on the Hanako x Yashiro ship thick. And also…
Tumblr media
I support Minamoto x Mitsuba.
I found this cute and I really wish for more between these two characters if this series gets a continuation. Don’t at me! I don’t care if Mitsuba’s an apirition and dumbass over here has to exercise demons. This is cute!
Tumblr media
ANIMATION: Aside from this animation looking like it came from the ghost of Danganronpa past, I would like to commend this on something else. So one thing I do have to give credit to is that this anime, more often than not feels like you’re reading a manga from the way the design is setup. I just thought that was neat and felt like saying something about that.
Tumblr media
ENDING: Pretty much all of the strange anomalies surrounding the school are just rumors (but the ghosts are very much real, just the tales about them are fake). And the one spreading those rumors is Hanako’s twin brother (who is also a ghost), Tsukasa. I should also point out that Hanako’s real name is Amane. But we really shouldn’t worry about this sibling rivalry as we know nothing about how or why Hanako killed his brother and it’s not brought up all that much in the finale. Yeah, this is balls-to-the-wall trippy.
Instead, we get a small arc of Minamoto befriending a spirit named Mitsuba. However this goes south really fast when Mitsuba’s soul is used by one of the seven wonders of the school and is then manipulated by Hanako’s twin brother Tsukasa. After that, Mitsuba is unable to know why he died or even the time he spent with Minamoto is erased.
In the final episode, we kinda go back to aspects of the first episode. As you may recall, Yashiro swallowed a mermaid artifact that makes her turn into a fish whenever she gets wet. Yashiro is visited by two fish spirits who want her to drink this mermaid blood potion so that she can cut the hold Hanako has on her and become the mermaid princess in their realm. Yashiro was kind of in an awkward situation as she cares for Hanako, but is constantly thrown bags of reality at her with how Hanako has treated her since forming the contract. They promise her popularity, a harem of eligible fish bachelors, and an escape from her body issue with her “daikon legs”.
Tumblr media
Hey, you’d develop a complex too if people constantly taunt you for having fat ankles!
Anyways, she denied their request. But they were rather persistent and grabbed her by force. Thankfully, Hanako wasn’t far behind and saved her and set the fish packing.
Tumblr media
Yashiro and Hanako’s relationship as a whole takes a turn for the better as Yashiro decides to stay by Hanako and he will eventually confide in Yashiro about his past.
This was a unique series. I mean, it was all over the place in where this story was going to go. But in terms of conclusions, not so much! I mean, Hanako’s brother is still spreading rumors around the school and unsuspecting students repeat it despite it being mostly false. We’re unsure of many things about those ghost brothers and the drama that went down when Tsukasa died. Hell, I’m not even sure the manga is that far ahead either. I loved the animation to this. Sure it looks like a Danganronpa clone, but again Studio Lerche animated it. But their direction of making this feel like a colorized manga at times was something I like to commend it for.
Each episode had a nice, quirky vibe to it whenever Hanako’s on the screen. So I say give it a try. It’s not a long series.
FUNimation has all 12 episodes available for streaming. Now that FUNimation is doing simuldubs again, Hanako-kun has a few more episodes available in English.

A life of her own - chapter 3
Read on AO3
Dear diary,
My name is Mukuro Ikusaba and I
How do I even start this? I guess it doesn’t matter who I am, or who I address when writing this. What matters is what comes out of this, how I feel once I’m done figuring things out through keeping this journal. I know I probably should have written as soon as I got out of my first therapy session, but I didn’t feel like it. There was so much going on in my head that I couldn’t look at the blank pages of the diary without a certain feeling of dread. I’m not sure how to explain it, but there was something frightening about the emptiness of the pages. I guess it reminded me of me, of how I felt.
It doesn’t mean that I’ve suddenly stopped feeling empty today, though. This hasn’t left at all – in fact, it may have gotten worse. I just felt the urge to write today, if only to try to ease my mind. I don’t know if it’ll work, but I have nothing to lose.
They’re going to kill her tomorrow. I’ve known she would be executed since they arrested her, and they told me about the date a few days after – I’m not sure how many. My days have all been looking the same, and everything I’ve been feeling since then made me lose sense of time. This should get better with my therapy sessions taking place every two days. I think it should help me keep track of days, at the very least.
Anyway, she will be gone for good tomorrow. Today, Sakakura-san came in my room and asked me if I wanted to see her again, telling me that Gekkogahara-san thought it would help me come to terms with what’s happening. I said no, though. I don’t want to see her. I don’t want to talk to her again, even with someone else around us. I think it would hurt too much. I don’t know how she’s feeling, but I also don’t want to know about that.
Deep down, I know she’s happy about what’s happening. I know she’s getting a taste of despair through failing to achieve her goals. I guess I don’t want to have actual proof of it. It hurts to think that by dedicating my entire life to her and making her happy, I’ve prevented her from getting what she always deeply wanted. It’s ironic, isn’t it? And now I’m running away from it. It’s better to pretend that she’s rotting away wherever they’re keeping her, crying as much as I have – somehow, it’s less painful. At least I can keep telling myself I’ve done everything I could for her, and that I’ve only done right by her my entire life.
But who am I kidding? I don’t even really believe in that. Like I wrote above, I know she’s probably the happiest she’s ever been. I just don’t wanna see it. I don’t have the strength to face her – not when I am so miserable over losing her. I don’t want to have proof that she’s much happier without me. She’s all I ever had. I could have had a much different life if I hadn’t supported her in all her endeavors, and knowing that this doesn’t mean anything to her fills me with awe.
I’m not angry at anyone for what’s happening anymore. I’m only angry at myself that I didn’t give up on her as a child – I mean, I’m not, but at the same time I am. It’s complicated. I’m honestly quite confused as to how I exactly feel about her. If I’m honest with myself, I know that she would have eventually killed me the way she killed Matsuda-kun – except it wouldn’t have been to make herself feel despair, but to make me feel despair. What I’m trying to say is I know she didn’t care about me and I was just some sort of tool for her to get away with the things she was doing. In that sense, I feel stupid and wish I had realized this much sooner so I could have told her to fuck off. When I think  about this, I wish I had stayed in Fenrir and made friends there. But when I think about her as my sister, as the person I swore to protect after our parents died, I wish I could still protect her today. I wish I could do something to make Munakata-san reconsider. So, it’s just hard.
In any case, she’ll be dead tomorrow, and I’ll be left with myself. That’s also scary. Despite what Gekkogahara-san said about me having so many possibilities, I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. And I feel like tomorrow, I’ll really be out of excuses to just be sitting here doing nothing. But still, there isn’t anything I really want to do. Well, I don’t know, really.
I’ve been thinking a lot about this too, to be honest. And this made me think about the academy as a whole. We’re scouted based on a talent, something we’re super good at. I was scouted as the Ultimate Soldier, but this doesn’t help me. I was always her soldier. And she’s gone, so I have no reason to focus on that anymore. Sure, I’m good at fighting, killing, deceiving. It was part of what I did with Fenrir. It was part of what I did for her. But I don’t think I want to do this anymore. I don’t want to be doing things for other people. I want to do things for myself.
That… That felt oddly good to write. I guess that even if I don’t know what I want to do, and even if I’m not sure who I really am and who’s going to be there for me, I still have myself.
Tomorrow, Junko will be dead, and I won’t be there to see it. Because I don’t want to see it. Because I need to protect myself. I need to save myself – I’m all I have.
-
“How do you feel now that she’s gone?”
The words kept playing in Mukuro’s head. She wasn’t sure how to answer the question. In a way, it was as though she’d run out of tears in the days after the arrestation – as though she didn’t need to be sad over what had happened to her sister anymore. She sighed, looking up to the ceiling. How was she supposed to explain what was going on in her head?
“I… I don’t know,” she said, her eyes following the fly that was circling around the chandelier. “I don’t feel sad, really. I mean, I do, but not more than I did when we first were separated, you know? Now there is just no way for us to be reunited again, so it feels pointless to cry. I had time to prepare for this. Munakata-san and Sakakura-san were honest enough about what they were going to do. Besides, it’s not the first time I lose a loved one, or that I have to face death. When I was in Fenrir, a lot of my brothers and sisters in arms died. I guess I’m used to it.”
She lowered her gaze to meet Gekkogahara-san’s, feeling slightly embarrassed with how much she’d just said. This was only their second session together, and she was having a hard time believing the Ultimate Therapist had gotten her to speak that much. Yet, she knew keeping that journal had something to do with it. Letting her thoughts out, whether orally or in writing, gave her some sort of relief that she couldn’t get from anything else.
“But isn’t it lonely?”
“Yeah, it is,” Mukuro sighed. “I wasn’t trying to imply that I don’t miss her. I really do, actually. I think I’ve just come to terms with the fact that I’m alone now.”
“It’s confusing, isn’t it?” Usami asked, tilting her head to the side the way she always did when she was asking a question that would be a tad bit more personal than the others.
“Yeah, I don’t know how I’m supposed to feel about any of this. Still, this helps, really. I’m grateful you’re giving me a bit of your time. I promise you aren’t wasting it at all.”
As she said this, Gekkogahara-san made Usami frown, and Mukuro couldn’t figure out why. It made her feel like she’d said something she shouldn’t have said, and this took away any sense of comfort she’d been feeling since the beginning of the session. She looked down at her lap, bouncing her leg and cursing herself for ruining things again. Everything was going so smoothly, why did she have to say the wrong thing?
“Ikusaba-chan,” the white rabbit called softly.
“Y-yes…?”
“You have to understand that this isn’t about me wasting my time or not. This is about you recovering from everything you’ve been through for the sake of your sister so you can live a normal life. It’s not healthy for you to be worried about how I feel about the progress you are or aren’t making. Everything about this is wholly about you.”
Mukuro looked up at her therapist, confused. She wasn’t sure how to respond to that. She was right, though. There was definitely a part of her that was worried Gekkogahara-san would consider this a waste of time and end up giving up on her – a part of her that wanted to please her so she would stick around. But she didn’t know that was a bad thing. She’d always thought that doing whatever made others happy with her was what she was supposed to do. She’d always assumed that this made her a good, kind-hearted person.
“What do you mean?” was all she managed to ask. She was terrified of what she would hear in response.
“You have to find yourself, Ikusaba-chan! You have to be true to who you are regardless of what you think others want from you. Only then will you really be able to be happy and stop feeling like an empty shell when you lose whoever gets close to you.” There was a pause, and Mukuro was ready to speak again when the Usami’s high-pitched voice interrupted her and continued. “This isn’t going to happen soon, though. You have years and years of conditioning and unhealthy dependency on your sister to unlearn. It isn’t going to be easy. It’s going to take time. But it’ll never feel like a waste of time to me. It is my job to guide you through the many changes you’ll be going through in the upcoming months and years.”
“I… Okay, yes, I understand,” the soldier said softly, even though she didn’t really understand what Gekkogahara-san meant. Sure, she wanted to please her to keep her around, but it wasn’t as bad as what she was saying, was it?
“Good,” Usami replied, smiling and clapping her tiny white paws. “This will be enough for today! Still, I have one piece of good news to share with you today.”
“What is it?”
“Since your sister is no longer a threat to the academy, and given that you have been extremely cooperative with me, you are now free to roam around the academy if you please! The only thing that is off-limits is talking to Mitarai-kun, Komaeada-kun, Tsumiki-chan and Kamukura-kun. I don’t think any of you would end up plotting against the academy, but Munakata-kun seems to think it’s safer if you don’t interact at all. I personally see no harm in this so I had no reason to disagree with the idea.”
Mukuro gave her a small smile. Being able to walk around might help her a little, after all. Staying isolated in her room all day couldn’t be good for her, especially when she used to have such an active lifestyle.
“Does that mean I can go back to class?”
“No, it is way too soon for that!” Usami was shaking her head energetically, keeping her arms crossed against her chest. “This will not be possible for months, but I’ll be sure to let you know when we make the decision to let you be a regular student again.”
“Okay, thank you.”
“Now, now, it is no problem, Ikusaba-chan! I need you to remember that.”
Mukuro nodded and got up, heading towards the door as she said goodbye to Gekkogahara-san. This hadn’t been the easiest therapy session to go through, but knowing that she could go for a walk around campus had definitely lifted her spirits. She would figure out what had scared her so much when her therapist had seemed disappointed with her later, probably through writing in her journal. For now, she only wanted to go on a little stroll and get some fresh air.
-
Mukuro had stayed outside much longer than she’d expected. The sun had finished setting and the cold night breeze was hitting her, making her wish she’d brought a jacket. Still, this wasn’t so bad. Most students had retreated back to the dorms, which meant that even though she was out in the open, she was still alone. And she enjoyed that – she’d always had, as young as she had been.
There was something so liberating about walking around in the cold, the only source of light being the moon. In these moments, it didn’t matter to Mukuro what anyone thought of her. There was no one to see her, no one to judge her and tell her how much of a failure she was. She was hidden in the dark, alone, and she felt fine. Even when her sister was still around, she’d cherished these moments.
She eventually sat down on a small patch of grass, crossing her legs. She mentally replayed the therapy session that had taken place earlier and sighed. She still wasn’t able to understand why Gekkogahara-san had reacted the way she had. She should’ve been pleased and happy to hear that she thought therapy was useful, right? So why had she seemed so upset with her when she’d said this?
She closed her fist around the grass, pulling on it. No matter how she looked at it, her therapist’s reaction made little to no sense to her. The theory Mukuro could come up with was that Gekkogahara-san had said this because she didn’t want her to get better – because just like her, she didn’t believe that she deserved to live a good and happy life after everything she’d done. Yet, even though that thought kept popping up in her head, she couldn’t believe it. She wasn’t too good with people, but she could usually tell when they weren’t to be trusted. Gekkogahara-san looked genuine. She wouldn’t be going through all these things just to see her suffer. Mukuro knew it.
She lied down on the grass and closed her eyes, chuckling to herself. Everything she’d done with Junko-chan could have been labelled as crazy, but at least she’d been able to understand it. Now that she was doing things regular people were supposed to do, she couldn’t make any sense out of it.
“How ironic,” she whispered to herself. “Junko-chan may have raised a few fair points in her constant criticism of me. I really am worthless and unable to do things right, aren’t I?”
Despite the harshness of her words, Mukuro wasn’t sad. Instead, she felt… happy? She wasn’t sure if what she was feeling could be qualified as happiness, but she was definitely experiencing something positive, since she found her current situation quite funny, all things considered.
Deciding to not give it too much thought, the solider indulged in the feeling. And she laughed, and laughed, and laughed, until she was breathless, lying down alone underneath the moonlight. Maybe it was hard for her to figure out what was going on around her and what her new interactions meant, but it definitely wasn’t so bad. Yes, she thought. I may pathetically fail again, but I can finally have fun with things. Maybe seeing me live a normal life from wherever she is now will give Junko-chan even more despair.

Day 7 Start!
Last day! *cries* Alreadyyyyyyy?! Whyyyyyy?! Uuuu. Well. You can still submit late entries... That’s something, I suppose.
Remember the tag  yasukematsudaweek2020 and remember that you can also @ this blog or submit it directly. Remember that tumblr sometimes sucks and that I also sometimes suck so if you feel I missed your entry, do not hesitate to message me and let me know. Remember Matsuda-kun. Please don’t forget him. And today’s prompt?
Free Day!
Yep, you can submit whatever! The joy of free thinking! Or the terror! If you feel you need a prompt, I have a list of 30 alternatives on the prompts page of this blog. You may have noticed I wrote ficlets for all of them to give potential examples and ways to convey them. Hopefully it helps if you need it. But in case it doesn’t, uhhh... There’s always hanakotoba. You can’t go wrong with that. At least I think so. Matsuda-kun...is like a rose. Prickly.
Best of luck to anyone who participates! I’ll make a proper thank you tomorrow to those who shared their works and helped share this blog! It all means very, very much! Thank you! I’ll still thank you again tomorrow. :>
And finally, a poem:
I’m actually quite dim
And struggled with each poem
My skill’s quite grim
But I do it for him.
For Matsuda-kun, I’d do it again! <3
