I don't know if you're still in need of any DMing advice, but here's a bit of wisdom that took me years to figure out: unless you decide to stream, the game that you run is going to be solely for you and your friends who are playing with you. Don't worry about if something is too tropey or if your representation of anything isn't 100% the best! So long as you've clearly communicated with your party about what you all are wanting in the game, and you make sure you stay within those bounds (ie. not doing something R-rated if you've all agreed on a PG game), you're going to be ok!

as "basic" as this advice might sound its still extremely relieving to be reassured of stuff like this!!! /gen

so yesterday during our pathfinder game my ratfolk and my friends orc ( @alex-in-wonderland6455 ) walked into a tavern and sat down and ordered some drinks. kirby (the ratfolk) got blasted and since the bard for the place had gotten extremely drunk before, kirby offered to play for the tavern

Kirby: *looks at maria* five silver bets i can totally suck at playing an instrument

Maria (the orc buddy™): *sighs* fine

DM as the tavern owner: theres a flute, a lute and a set of my family's bagpipes here in the back, itd be an honor for you to play them

Kirby: i'll play the bagpipes

DM OOC: okay do you have any performance skill

Kirby OOC: no

DM OOC: so roll to play the bagpipes, i'm going to have to give you a negative five though because you dont know how to play any instrument whatsoever

Kirby: *rolls a 19* fourteen

DM: *looks up a bagpipe cover of thunderstruck and its actualy pretty good* apparently you learned how to play the bagpipes within five minutes of just holding them them and are actually quite good at playing
