sun square pluto in astrology, from my experience , is very intense. you take eachothers actions extremely to heart and rely on eachother immensly. so you can dissppoint eachother easily too. since pluto is a generational planet, and you have other aspects too, it probably eont be the aspect that is the most felt between you. but it does cause a layer of what i explained.

My newest concept for Beskan's Disappointing Firstborn Son, the name is subject to change. Deciding to play him as a Drow Shadow Monk. Since Beskan has become a True Dragon in game, I've come up with a backstory that has "Anchovies" die and Reincarnated by another player's character from a previous game. So he's stuck in this drow body rather than his glorious dragon one, and may have to kill his evil younger brother during the game once said brother finds out that "Anchovies" still lives. The working name Anchovies comes from a home made set of Cards Against Humanity my brother made a while back, where one of the white cards was "My disappointing son Anchovies". It might also be a meme? My brother is just a walking meme after all.

so it’s no surprise to anyone at this point that i’m not a fan of xenoblade chronicles 2 and have made a bunch of posts about all the things about it i dislike especially in comparison to it’s forebears and i’ve had some time today to play some of the torna the golden country dlc and while so far i’m up to the point where you need to gather materials to go to desert in the aletta region i still feel i can make a quick assessment of the dlc so far from what i’ve played

quite frankly i find torna to be the vastly superior version of the game and the rightful successor to the xenoblade name. it fixes alot of the problems i have with xenoblade 2 in many areas.

combat is much more fast paced, battles are quicker and more satisfying and it feels far more dynamic. having the blade and driver both be playable and switching between playing as one while the other uses support arts from the side that are clearly mappable and understandable was a stroke of genius. before the blades just sat there doing buffs while the driver used the weapon. now the blade can provide strength and also do attacks alongside the buffs. and with switching arts, that have their own effects, combined with the mechanic that allows you to recover health by switching vanguards, there’s real tactical value to swapping out your characters in battle. drivers also being able to support blades is also a nice touch. also a small note but they finally explained how elements worked a bit better in regards to what it does for you. 

the field skill system isn’t complete horseshit anymore either. see, the blade system is what it’s tied to, and in xc2, blades were mostly randomised and story blades didnt cover all elements and skill types, so you were at the mercy of random pulls and random rare blades to get anything close to consistent field skills, which were mandatory in exploring the world, progressing the story, and doing most sidequests. torna removes their pain by simply making there be a fixed amount of blades in the game, and thus a fixed amount of field skill checks. now, you always have what you need to proceed, and know when you’re not supposed to do something yet, and that you always have the means nearby. you have access to all elements in combat, and you have all the field skills you’d ever need. progression is no longer roadblocked randomly through arbitrary layered grinding to get something with the right field skill and then grind for that skill, now at best you just need to grind a bit for that skill, or chances are you already more or less have it unlocked. field skills are less intrusive and i could not be happier as they shattered so much of the progression and freedom i was trying to have in xenoblade 2, whereas torna is far less of a bastard about it. again, it’s good game design to always give the player the tools they need for the task at hand, and simply ask of them that they use them correctly, rather than randomly distributing those tools, and flipping them the middle finger if fortune did not favour them and tell them to fuck off and grind more core crystals. same applies to combat too, it’s nice to have all elements available, rather than to not have ice and dark at all through natural story progression like a certain inferior game. 

i also like the area design for the torna titan alot, gives me xc1 vibes more than xc2′s areas did, especially since exploring them is less of a hassle now since it’s clear when i’m supposed to go somewhere and when i’m not. 

i also want to point out a good bit of design. both games use the cancel action system where you press the art button of choice just after completing an attack animation, to deal more damage and get more on the affinity gauge. took awhile to figure out naturally in xc2. in torna, the first art lora has is one that does more damage when you cancel into it, so you naturally learn to do it by incentive. later, when you get the break art, switching to jin will topple the enemy, and jin has position based arts, allowing you to capitalise on the enemy you’ve immobilised by getting to their side or behind them to use the arts for bonus damage. it’s a very naturally blending playstyle that teaches you through art incentives better than rex’s base kit did, and teaching the player how to play and getting them into the proper playstyle for the game early on is a hallmark of good game design.

so far i’m very impressed by torna the golden country, it seems to be a successful execution of what xenoblade chronicles 2 was trying to do, and seems to make up for alot of the mistakes that game made by genuinely improving on alot of aspects.
