love love love my danganronpa digimon au specifically because it lets me make the classes of dr1 and dr2 interact. they’re both stuck in this weird situation which is kinda forcing them to interact to an extent

Like both sides are still doing their own things (particularly in how they are battling the darkness/despair spreading over the digital world) but they get to interact a bit more than in canon, which means I get to explore conversations and friendships between the two and that makes me verry happy :]

Anyways. Rant below about some ideas I had bc im thinking about this au again:

Going based on the previously established Despair-as-a-physical-entity thing in the digital world, I’m using it as one of the primary antagonists in this au. Seeing how both worlds are connected, it starts to grow based on the work that Junko is already putting in at the academy to spread her own despair. For a while they are feeding off one another until she happens to discover the digital world when Mukuro receives a digimon. They still assist each other (though, with the Despair, it isnt consciously doing it; its kind of just spreading) and Junko often travels to the digital world with Mukuro (think how season 02’s digivices work).

The approaching darkness is what spurs the digital world into kicking into a kind of defense mode, and it sends out the digivices to what it considers ‘beacons of hope’, aka some of the students of Hopes Peak Academy. Dr2’s class’s virtual pets sprout into digimon, Chihiro’s bursts out of her computer, etc. Speaking of which: Chihiro is the resident computer nerd, and is the one to discover the gateway to the digital world, thus allowing the cast to go back and forth between worlds, where they at first just kind of fuck around until they hear about how they’re supposed to be saving this world. Then they all freak out (lol)

Hajime is Izuru at the time they receive their digimon. Junko finds him, and smuggles him into the digital world because the Despair grows stronger with his presence there. I do want an arc for him though, with him re-learning how to be human (bc im a sucker for those plots.)

Slight tangent here: when Izuru first begins to reach Hajime again, his digimon shows up. Its in its baby stage though, and as he continues to grow, it grows with him. Also,,, the fact that it only shows up for Hajime,,, bc it was meant for Hajime,,,,,,, He didn’t think he was special yet this digimon was created specifically for him,,,,, ough

Anyways

I also want to incorporate the despair arcs for dr2’s class somehow too. Sort of like s01 (Matt and Sora’s overcome-by-despair moment), I want that class to experience that too, and then be brought out of it. I don’t have a plan for that yet, but its am interesting thought

OKAY,, I have my thoughts out now. I want to work more on this au, its a guilty pleasure for me haha

Here are all the kids’ ✨ partners ✨

I say all of them but like. there’s 30+ kids so I only did some please bare with me agsjdhssk

Dr 1 Kids:

Chihiro: Tentomon

I love me some computer kids with bugs hehe. I think they’d get along rlly well and Tentomon would be super impressed with Chihiro’s computer skills. Also it gives me Izzy vibes

Mondo: Labramon

DOG. PINK AND WHITE DOG. I think he’d absolutely love Labramon. He definitely has some hesitation at the beginning because it doesn’t look manly at all but shhh that’s his character growth :]

Kiyotaka: Gaomon

Punchy wolf who adheres to rules/his own code… sounds familiar hehe. I’m specifically thinking of Thomas’s Gaomon but like.. in a different font. Taka would freak the fuck out over keeping a ‘pet’ on school grounds tho lmao. Also this made me think of the fact that one of Taka’s fav gifts in dr1 was boxing gloves… hehe

Kyoko: Kudamon

Cool, calm, collected. Again, I’m thinking of the one from Data Squad. Kyoko would be standoffish but I think she’d warm up to the little guy quickly. Also….neck rest hehe

Makoto: Agumon

Obligatory Agumon, but honestly I think it fits pretty well too. Confident and friendly, and not afraid to rush head-on into things :]

Byakuya: Renamon

YEAH. Hear me out: I’m thinking it would be similar to Rika’s. Strict relationship with their partner, basically just another of Byakuya’s tools. Only at first, of course, they warm up to each other eventually. Also I think it’s funny to give him a fox girl hehe

Celeste: BlackPawnchessmon

She’s got an aesthetic going on!! She needs a partner similar to that, and what’s better than a little chess-piece set guy?

Aoi: Betamon

It’s a little excitable fish. What’s more perfect than that?

(Currently also debating on what to give Sayaka and Leon so wait a bit for those)

Dr 2 Kids

Hajime: Patamon

YES this one gets me very excited!! They just fit together okay I can’t explain it but it makes me unreasonably happy. Also the fact that Patamon evolves into holy digimon and I want an Izuru arc makes me unwell in the best way possible

Nagito: Impmon

HEAR ME OUT. Little unlucky imp meets unwell lucky guy. Also I think their vibes mix pretty well together

Kazuichi: Hagurumon

It’s. it’s a floating gear. that digvolves into a robot. Literally what is more perfect. Kazuichi would be scared at first but they’d warm up to each other :] Also thinking about making him hella chill to balance out Kazuichi’s anxiety.

Fuyuhiko: Gabumon

Super loyal little guy whose also really nice and friendly meets very emotionally constipated yakuza. Match made in heaven.

<— is also digging the idea of fuyuhiko being upset at being given another ‘tool’…

Chiaki: Wormmon

A super friendly, soft-spoken worm. Sounds like he and Chiaki would get along :] Also, again, computer kids with bugs makes me very happy

Sonia: Bakemon

A nasty little freak? For a princess?? 100% yeah. Not only does it subvert from what you’d expect from a princess’s partner, but it’s also literally a ghost and would make her occult-loving self extremely happy. They watch horror movies together<3

Gundham: Lopmon

Mmmm Gundham was hard to pick for, but I’m thinking that this guy will work. Hear me out: chill little rabbit friend with our lovable overlord of ice. It likes to go along with his theatrics :]

Peko: Falcomon

Sword woman and ninja-bird. Yep yep they’ll work, hehe. Fr tho, I think these two’s personalities mesh pretty well. Another ‘tool’ situation, but they’ll break out of that mindset with some help

Definitely want to implement the virtual pets into the digimon au.

So what I’m thinking is:

Without warning, all the virtual pets in class 77 (gonna say Chiaki gifted them to everyone or smthg, idk I haven’t watched the anime yet) reset, reverting back to the beginning egg form. Of course the ones who actually pay attention to it are confused, and Chiaki catches wind of them malfunctioning (Kazuichi is probably complaining ab it out loud) and decides to take it to Chihiro

Hmm… for the members of class 78, theirs would most likely come from their phones. The exceptions would be Chihiro and Taka: Chihiro, who discovers one on their laptop and goes into Gotta Analyze This mode, and Taka who just happens to get blasted by his in the school library while trying to print off a paper (lol). This group would probably receive their digimon after the first members of sdr2 get theirs

Oh!! And the virtual pets would morph into Digivices (rip) while the others would receive theirs via their technology spitting it out at them

Man, the mental imagery of Taka, via a computer screen, getting a dog thrown at him then immediately getting a device thrown at his head and then just. leaving him like that amuses the fuck out of me

The others don’t have it much better but. still. Lmao

It would be funny if Taka's Digimon was stuck at a champion, unlike Gatomon who naturally evolved. Taka's is just stuck that way because Taka has an unlimited amount of feeling that it's a natural amplification. Also would be funny because most champions are big bois except I think only Gatomon (and her slide evolutions of DarkGatomon and Mikemon) so, everyone got the small Rookie's and Taka is with his big boi

That would be funny! It’d be hell on Taka since the guy is already stressed ab keeping an ‘animal’ on school grounds — and now it’s a huge wolf guy instead of a little one

What I had thought of was that each kiddo finds their digimon as a baby then it evolves to rookie and so on from there. To go along with your idea, Taka’s would digivolve and then just. get stuck like that lol
