Day Five: Underrated Characters - Dewi and Freedi

A recipe for @andorappreciation.

Pamular Family Recipe: Vent-Smoked Squigglies in Brine

Us Keredians love squiggly. Baked or pickled, smoked or raw. Narkinian squiggly the best kind.

This biggy dinner takes preparation, but good for 2-4 hungry boys. Brine also preserves it good, so lasts long time. Make on the go in quadjumper, or back at home.

*Adjustments made after bad squiggly season. Scob the Empire.

Prep time: 20 min + 1 half rotation

Cook time: 2 hr

Ingredients:

2 heaping clobs fresh squiggly meat

⅓ mug moonsalt

¼ mug granulated sweetleaf

4 mug filtered water

½ mug dewberry wine

1 spoon dried spicerock, smashed

2 dried herba leaves

2 slice lemo fruit

synthetic cooking oil

Directions:

Prepare squiggly meat. Wash well to get the bad chemicals off. Use sharpest pointy to bleed it dry and remove the scales.

Cut out the squiggly guts. The algae’s gone bad and poisons the meat, so be thorough. Discard.

Cut up squiggly meat into biggy chunks. Toss the bones or keep ‘em for a stew.

Heat pot over vent. Add the filtered water. Do not use spoiled water.

Bring to boil. Add moonsalt and sweetleaf. Boil until all the grainies are dissolved. Pour into a bowl and set aside.

Wait until brine is cool, then add spicerock, herba, and wine to bowl. Stir lots. Put squiggly chunks in bowl and cover with brine. Add lemo slices on top. Cover bowl and set aside for a half rotation.

When ready to cook squigglies, grease smoking rack with oil and set over vent. Careful to not set ship on fire.

Remove squiggly chunks from brine. Put on rack and smoke for twosie hours. Flip halfway. Cook well to get all the poison out.

Remove squiggly chunks from rack. Eat hot with starchy rolls. Savor every scobbing bite.

Notes:

Smoked squiggly can preserve for 30 rotations.

If no squigglies caught, can substitute synthmeat. Tastes not as good.

Human meat not good substitute for squigglies. Too tough.
