Title: Ma Cherie Genre: Angst Show/Media: Ninjago Words: 2016 ship: Lava (kai/cole) desc: After Zane's death, Kai begins to pull away from Cole which leads to. a lot of heartbreak. This is like their reconciliation with each other on the way to Chen's island
Cole took a long, shaky breath, staring wistfully at his friend while he talked to the girl. The girl who took him away from him. Things had already been rocky, especially since they’d lost Zane. Kai had withdrawn. He’d withdrawn so much, that when he’d seen him for the first time since Zane’s funeral, Cole barely recognised him. It’s hurt to see him walk away from everything. Walk away from him.
He remembered their first night back together. The 4 of them hadn’t spoken since the funeral, unable to face each other with one less friend there. It’d been… awkward to say the least but eventually, they’d warmed up to each other again. Well, except Kai. After everything that had happened, the two barely spoke a word to each other, instead opting to either get ready to go to Chen’s Island or talk to Jay and Lloyd. If Cole was honest, it hurt to even look Kai in the face right now.
“Jealous?” Jay said to his friend, only half-joking. Cole sighed, tearing his eyes away from where Kai and the girl were standing talking.
“I don’t want to talk about it.” He replied plainly, allowing his eyes to wander back over to him one last time before he fully turned towards the railing of the ship and stared at the dark waves of the sea lapping against the side of the boat. Jay sighed and faced the water too, watching Cole in his peripheral vision. He knew his friend and he knew he was struggling, but he’d never seen him like this before. Both devoid of emotion and filled with nothing but raw, unadulterated pain.
“I know we were never really anything more than friends but…” Cole took a breath, his eyes glazing over with unshed tears, “But I at least thought… probably hoped more than anything… he really did feel the same.” He bit his lip, holding back tears as he stared blankly into the water.
“I know man… I know. If it’s any consolation, the rest of us thought he did too,” Jay said quietly, resting his hand on Cole’s shoulder comfortingly. While the knowledge that maybe, once, Kai had reciprocated his feelings did bring him a slight amount of consolation, it didn’t take away the ever largening chasm in his chest threatening to swallow him whole. It didn’t matter how much he longed to hold Kai again, just once, no amount of pining would get him to stop flirting with that damned girl. He’d just met her and he was already showing more affection for her than he’d ever shown Cole. Even if they never were anything serious it still felt wrong seeing him with someone else, especially some stranger on the boat going to some weird competition.
“When we get to Chen’s Island,” Cole’s ears pricked up, hearing Kai talking slightly louder than he had been before, “We should hang out some time. Just the two of us, get to know each other better.” Rage boiled inside Cole, barely able to keep his mouth shut.
“Don’t turn around and look at him. Don’t give him the satisfaction,” Jay muttered, his own brow creasing in frustration.
How dare he. After everything, how fucking dare he. Cole knew he was just doing it to get some kind of a rise out of him, but if anything knowing that made it worse. Knowing he was purposefully ripping his heart out, knowing it wasn’t just him that felt something… It was as if Kai had taken the knife he’d plunged into his chest and twisted it. They’d all taken Zane’s death hard, but this was ridiculous.
“It’s taking all my strength to not go over there and punch that idiot in his stupid pretty face,” Cole growled through gritted teeth, eyebrows set in a hard line as he still continued to stare into the inky-black water.
“Cole,” the name sounded foreign coming from his lips, a painful reminder of the time before, “You don’t need to follow me around like a bodyguard. I can handle myself.” Kai said stubbornly, now closer than he had been before. Cole closed his eyes and let out a slow breath, fighting the urge to scream at him right there.
“I’m not following you around. It’s just a small boat.” Cole responded flatly, still not turning around. No matter how much he tried to act as though he’d act out of rage and all the fantasies he’d had about telling Kai exactly how he felt and screaming at him until his throat was raw, in that moment, he knew that wasn’t going to happen. If he turned around and looked Kai in the eyes, looking at his face for even just a millisecond, he’d break down right there.
“Uh-huh,” Kai said disbelievingly, folding his arms. Cole let out another breath, fighting the urge to turn around. Kai moved towards Cole slowly and reached a hand out to touch him, before deciding against it and retracting his hand. Jay watched Kai in his peripheral vision, seeing him outstretch his hand. Jay pursed his lips before patting his friend's shoulder and walking off slowly, only putting as little distance as necessary between him and his friends. Kai lent against the railing next to Cole silently, looking out into the pitch-black night as the stars twinkled above them, watching their every move.
“Don’t go on that date with her,” Cole said slowly, doing all he could to fight back tears. Kai looked over at him out of the corner of his eye.
“Why?”
“You know why,” Cole said firmly, still fighting all his urges to turn and look at Kai.
“Say it. I need to hear you say it.” Kai replied, facing Cole as he squeezed his eyes shut, very much on the verge of crying now. The words were stuck in his throat, unable to push their way through into the air. Cole took a breath, swallowing down the bile that was threatening to make an appearance with the anxiety churning his stomach.
“Because I’m- I’m in love with you, Kai Smith, and after everything that's happened, I know that you already know that. Didn’t stop you from flirting with that girl right in front of me, though which is like a fucking stab in the heart,” Cole’s voice was dipping now, sounding as if he was just barely holding back tears. Kai didn’t say anything for a moment, looking at Cole, his heart aching to walk over to him, hold him. To run to him and bury his head in his chest and never leave the comfort of his arms… was best-case scenario. After everything that had happened, that wouldn’t be happening any time soon. He took a shaky breath, swallowing the rock forming in his throat. “But it doesn’t look like I meant anything to you anyway, so I didn’t… want to say anything.” He finished.
“I don’t know what to say that wouldn't sound like an excuse or spilling my guts,” Kai said quietly, his eyes moving away from Cole’s.
“Then spill them, Kai. Say what you want to say because I’m sick of you pulling away from me. For once, just be honest with me”
“Cole…” Kai said slowly, not entirely sure where the sentence was going. He didn't know what to say, as if there was anything he could say that would take away the pain they were obviously both feeling. “You did- you do mean something to me. You mean a lot to me. I’m not good at expressing it but I just… Everyone I love keeps leaving or dying, I didn’t want to risk you leaving me too. I backed off after Zane’s funeral because I didn’t want to have my heart broken again. My parents, my friends… I just feel like everything I love is being ripped away from me and I didn’t want or need any more pain. It was selfish, I know I just… I don’t want to lose you and for some reason, leaving you was the only way I could stay in control.”
Cole let out a breath, not sure how to respond. He understood; he really did; he felt the pain Kai had been for the last 3 months but… something inside of him still wanted to scream and cry and yell at him until his throat was hoarse and he had nothing left to say.
“You don’t have to accept my explanation. I know I hurt you, Cole, and I’m sorry. When I was trying to protect myself I hurt you, one of the most important people in my life and I fucked up and I’m so, so sorry,” Kai finished, looking away. If he saw Cole’s reaction to his words, it would push him over the edge, no doubt. He couldn’t cry. He wouldn’t cry, not in front of all these people. He refused to cry over all of this again; over Cole again. Either he walked out of this with it all resolved with nothing in the air between them or he walked out of this with Cole as his boyfriend. If he thought about it enough, he hoped it would manifest itself, but the longer this conversation went on, the less he was so sure those were the only two outcomes.
Cole sighed, his shoulders sagging down a little. Kai stiffened, not sure if this was in defeat or content.
“You’re a dummy, you know that Kai,” Cole said lightly, a small smile playing on his lips despite the exhaustion plaguing his face. Kai relaxed a little, letting out a little laugh. It felt as though a weight had lifted off of his chest; his entire being felt lighter than it had just moments before. This was the Cole he knew and loved.
“Yeah, I know,” He said with a breath, looking at Cole’s face for any hint of residual anger, or even just discontent, towards him. Reading nothing, Kai moved slightly closer to Cole, letting his arm brush against his. Not moving away from the touch, he took this as an invitation to move closer again, this time their arms fully touching. Cole turned his arm over, his palm facing straight up as he looked at Kai softly, his eyes holding the same affection they had just a few months prior. Kai wasn’t good with emotions, but he knew the one he was feeling for Cole right now was a good one; a hopeful one that dreamed of new beginnings and the chance to start over and make wrongs right; so without another word he slipped his hand into his. Cole squeezed it slightly, sending an unspoken message. Kai let out a light breath, feeling any anger he had left overflow out of his body.
“I want you to promise me,” Cole said, a slightly more serious tone edging his voice, “Don’t pull away again. I know, you’re just trying to protect yourself but… I don’t know how to say this without sounding cringy but let me protect you. I can help you but only if you let me in.” A hint of desperation laced Cole’s voice, a hint of undisclosed emotion hidden behind his words.
“I promise you, Cole Brookestone,” Kai said, looking him directly in the eye as he spoke, “I won’t pull away again. What I did, it didn’t only hurt me, but it hurt you and I never want to do that, never again.” Cole smiled, properly this time. Wrapping his arm around him, gently pulling him closer and planting a kiss on his forehead, watching the waves yet again, this time with warmth inside of him he didn’t think he’d feel for a while.
“And I promise you, Kai Smith,” Cole said, just as serious, looking at Kai, “I’m not gonna leave your side. Now you’re with me, you're in it for the long run so get used to me!” Kai laughed, shaking his head with a smile on his face.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Title: First Dates
Pairing: Opposite (Zane/Kai)
Words: 1133
Warnings: None!! just some generic fluff
“I’m not going to lie,” Zane said with a laugh, “But that was the best date I’ve ever been on.” Kai- smiled, his fingers brush against Zane’s. He moved his own hand so it was closer, and when the nindroid made no objection to their hands fully touching, he took his hand. Zane smiled at Kai and didn’t move his hand, letting their arms swing slightly as they walked down the quiet streets of early evening Ninjago, the lights from skyscrapers and the slowly awakening nightlife painted purple and blue and green highlights over everything. Even Zane.
“I’m glad you thought so!” kai said lightheartedly with a laugh, “The waiter was a total fanboy, it was so embarrassing!”
“Maybe, but if he hadn't made you uncomfortable, we wouldn’t have gone to the hole in the wall pizza joint. I haven’t had pizza that good in… well ever,” Zane replied with a smile, looking at Kai, his eyes brushing over his sharp features, unable to think about anything other than how beautiful he looked. The streetlamps dim orange glow danced across his cheekbones as he walked while the light blues and yellows from the neon-lit shop windows blending together on his nose and lips, creating a beautiful green with a blue and yellow outline.
“In fairness, the pizza was really good. We need to tell the guys about that later,” Kai looked away slightly and took a nervous breath, “And… if it made you happy and you enjoyed it, that’s all I could ask for,” He said softly, looking up at Zane with a small smile, his cheeks blossoming a beautiful crimson. Zane smiled, feeling a little steam begin to come out of his ears. Kai had that effect on him. That little, lopsided smile, the freckles he tried so hard to cover and his deep brown eyes that were peppered with streaks of blue.
“Sorry,” Zane said, even more, embarrassed as the steam continued to come out of his ears, “My systems seem to be overheating,” He laughed nervously, rubbing the back of his neck. Kai smiled even wider, his teeth being immediately covered in yellow, green and blue neon lights.
“Don’t worry about it, honestly I think it’s cute when you get all flustered like this,” Kai said with a giggle, stopping walking so he could properly look into Zane’s eyes. They were so light and shining, almost unnerving. Kai didn’t find them unnerving. He loved Zane’s eyes. They were so beautifully might and airy, they almost dragged every worry off his shoulders. When he looked into those eyes, he knew everything would be ok. Zane’s eyes brought security, usually because if his eyes were there, the rest of him would be there too, holding his hand and keeping him grounded.
“You watch too many romcom’s,” Zane said with a laugh, moving himself a little closer to his boyfriend.
“Why? Is this going down that route? Because if it is, I can’t say I’d be complaining,” He replied flirtily, smirking mischievously.
“Will you just shut up and kiss me, hothead,” Zane whispered, their faces getting closer by the second.
“With pleasure frosty,” Kai murmured, pressing his lips to Zane’s softly, resting his hand delicately on the back of his neck. Zane’s hands drifted down Kai’s back, coming to rest on his hips, holding hard enough to ensure he’d never let go or leave him again. Not even death would do them part, and Zane was sure of that. He would make sure of that. He’d shift heaven and hell if it meant Kai would be happy, and he’d make sure to show him that every day for the rest of his life.
Suddenly, cool droplets fell from the sky, splattering them both.
“Are you being for real,” Kai said, pulling away but not letting go of Zane, looking at the sky in annoyance. Zane let out a small laugh, looking at Kai with his eyebrows raised.
“Did you not check the forecast? It said it was going to rain,” Zane laughed, looking at Kai with raised eyebrows.
“... Maybe,” Kai said, wincing slightly as the rain began getting heavier, flattening his perfectly styled hair.
“Right just… I think I’ve seen situations like this in those romcoms you’re obsessed with. Watch and learn, loverboy,” Zane said smugly, pulling off his jacket and holding it above both of their heads like a makeshift umbrella, smiling down at Kai.
“I’m not obsessed!” Kai said indignantly, crossing his arms and looking away in fake anger.
“Hmm. Whatever you say,” Zane said with a laugh, rolling his eyes playfully.
“Wait did you call me loverboy,” Kai stopped abruptly, only just processing what Zane had said.
“Maybe. Is that ok?” Zane said worriedly, stopping next to him, scared he said something wrong.
“Of- of course, it is! I just… didn’t expect it. I… kinda liked it,’ Kai said softly, his face turning a deep red.
“Cool. Good. I’m glad,” Zane said awkwardly, not completely sure how to respond, continuing to walk, “I can call it you more if you’d like?”
“Yeah. Please,” Kai closed his eyes in embarrassment, “Not my best response, but anyway.” Zane laughed, making Kai smile. He loved Zane’s laugh. It was so light and airy, it just made him want to laugh and smile too.
“I hope it doesn’t rain for too much longer, my arms are getting tired,” Zane said lightheartedly, shifting his harms slightly trying to gain a little more blood flow to them.
“Just put your jacket on properly, It’s my fault for not bringing my own. I’ve survived a lot worse than a little rain,” Kai replied. Zane sighed, looking at his tired arms, then back at Kai, not completely sure what to do. Then it dawned on him.
“Stop for a second,” Zane said quickly, lowering his jacket and, as Kai stopped, slinging it around his shoulders and pulling the hood up, “Now you won’t catch a cold,” Zane said happily. Kai stood in awe, staring at the large, fluffy jacket now wrapped around him. He pulled the edges together and felt a warmness flood over him, but not from the jacket.
“I love you, Zane,” Kai said softly getting closer to the nindroid as they continued walking back to the monastery.
“I love you too, Loverboy,” Zane replied, wrapping his arm around Kai’s shoulders and putting his free hand in his pocket, “You look adorable in my jacket, by the way. Feel free to steal all my clothes because I’d give anything to see you looking like this again.” Kai blushed and shook his head, resting it on Zane’s side.
“I hope you know that now you’ve said that, you’ll never see any of your hoodies again,” He said with a laugh.
“I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

Title: Burning Pile
Words: 2410
Ship: Lava
Warnings: depressive episode, mentions of worthlessness. i wrote this based off od how my own depressive episodes tend to happen/come about so this might not be accurate to everyone so dont start yelling at me if its not "how depression is for you" anyone who says that will be blocked. its more of a comfort fic to get me through the last week of school.
Cole yawned, throwing his bag on the floor and rolling his shoulders, feeling them pop satisfyingly. Finally, he was home. Rubbing his eyes; cracking his neck and feeling his limbs come alive once more. He hated long car rides, they cramped his limps and make him travel sick. That’s the problem being tall and large; the back of cars wasn’t made to accommodate you. Jay kept telling him to learn to drive himself, but he didn’t have the time. Being a ninja was surprisingly hard work, with little time in between to learn to drive. He’d just have to make do.
“Oh Cole, hey dude, forgot you were coming back today,” Jay said, walking into the room, leaning against the counter, a strange look contorting his face, “How’s your dad?”
“Not too bad. Still pretty insistent on me being a good singer. Apparently, I just have to ‘dig deep. Something tells me he’s never going to back off with it,” Cole said with a laugh, Jay laughed, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes, “Are you ok man? You seem… I dunno. Off,” Jay’s face fell, his mouth scrunching nervously.
“You’re gonna be so pissed I didn’t tell you but… Kai’s not ok, he-”
“Wait what? What happened, where is he?’ Cole said frantically, his face falling in panic.
“I don’t- I don’t know dude! He’s barely been leaving his room, I don’t think he’s showered all week and I’ve barely seen him eat anything. We’ve tried to give him stuff and made him drink some water but-” Jay didn’t get a chance to finish, Cole pushed past him, dashing to his boyfriend’s room. From what he could gather, this had started a week ago. When he’d left. He hadn’t had a depressive episode in months now; had him leaving been the catalyst for all this? He was sure he’d been careful, he’d texted him every day. Even if they hadn’t called, he hadn’t asked. Besides, his dad didn’t know about them yet, he didn’t want to accidentally come out because of a phone call. Either way, if Kai had been in a bad way he hadn’t seemed like it. Apart from not asking to call, he’d seemed relatively normal. No slow replies. No giving texts. Nothing.
Cole softly knocked on Kai’s bedroom door, though it seemed pointless. No matter the response, he was going in there.
“What?” A hoarse voice called from inside the room. Kai’s hoarse voice. Cole opened the door, staring in awe at the state of the room. It was… messy to say the least. Clothes were scattered across the floor, making it so you couldn't even see the carpet. Mugs and glasses and bowls and plates littered around, just extra obstacles to the already high-staked trek to Kai’s bed.
“I’ve told you guys, leave me alone!” Kai yelled pushing himself up from his flat position on the bed, twisting his head around and staring at Cole, slightly gone out. His face fell when he realised who it was, staring at him solemnly from his position in the doorway.
“You’re back,” He murmured, twisting himself around fully so he was looking at Cole. Properly this time.
“Yeah,” Cole said softly, stepping carefully around the rubble and decay scattered all over the floor, sitting down on Kai’s bed when he finally got to it, “What… What happened?”
Kai shrugged, not looking at Cole. His hair was slicked back, matted to his skull with grease. Pimples beginning to form on his face, the lack of skincare irritating his delicate skin. Cole would be lying if he said he didn’t look gross and smell just as bad, but that didn’t put him off. Obviously, something was wrong, what kind of a boyfriend would he be if he didn’t do anything.
“I just… started feeling empty. I don’t care about anything and I have no motivation to do anything but… I didn’t want to be a burden, and I knew that if you suspected anything you’d come back so I just played it cool. Half expected one of them to tell you but… I guess they didn’t want you cutting your trip short for me either,” He muttered sadly, still not making eye contact. He couldn't. Not in this state. He was disgusting. His breath stunk like he’d just eaten something that’d been dead for a while and he probably stunk like something that’d been dead for a while too. Despite barely leaving his bed, his face was gaunt, his cheekbones beginning to further protrude, this time to an unhealthy degree and his eye sagging, purple eyebags hanging down as if weighing down his entire soul.
“Oh firefly,” Cole mumbled, opening his arms and wrapping them around Kai’s shoulders and pulling him close, feeling as Kai slowly relaxed into his body, not moving his arms.
“I’m sorry,” Kai said softly into Cole’s chest.
“For what?”
“Not telling you. Lying to you.”
“I don’t care. You have nothing to be sorry for, you weren’t in the right headspace and still aren’t. But I’m home now, so I’ll help you get out of this. Have you been taking your meds?” Cole said, still speaking in hushed tones. He wasn’t 100% sure why, but it seemed to be comforting to him, so he continued doing it.
Kai shook his head slowly, knowing he was about to get lectured.
“Ok, that’d explain a lot. Let’s start with that then,” Cole said simply, standing up and looking down at Kai.
“What?” He said, confused as Cole looked down at him expectantly.
“Come on. I’m taking you to take your medication,” Cole stated, holding out his hand, “If I bring ‘em to you, you’ll not feel any better.” Kai sighed and took his hand, letting his boyfriend’s strong form pull him out of bed. He slumped over slightly, his legs barely able to keep him standing. Letting his arm hang limply, his hand barely holding Coles, they walked out of his room and to the kitchen. He wasn’t 100% sure he was even in the room with him, his mind fuzzing in and out of focus from his surroundings. One moment, he was in the kitchen with his boyfriend. Next, he was in his head, letting his thoughts run wild. The latter was less than ideal; especially without the prescribed dosage of antidepressants in his system; but he didn’t have the energy to care.
“Ok,” Cole said, putting 2 small pills down in front of Kai along with a cup of water, “Take them.” Kai nodded, letting go of Cole’s hand and picked up the tablets, sloppily placing them in his mouth and swallowing them with the cool water. It felt heavenly, rolling down his dry throat and even drier tongue, giving them a new lease of life.
“Better?” Cole said softly, taking Kai’s hand back in his own. Kai shrugged, leaning against Cole and closing his eyes.
“Don’t bother going back to sleep on my arm, there’s more,” Cole continued, firmly but lovingly. Kai knew it was for his own good but… he just wanted to get back in bed. There was an immovable weight on his chest, dragging him down and increasing the effort to keep himself upright. He wasn’t sure how much longer he could actually stay stood up.
“Ok, have you had something to eat today?” Cole asked, taking Kai’s other hand and looking at him softly. Kai nodded, looking back, but not quite meeting Cole’s eyes. His heart twisted with every beat in his chest; his stomach turning in knots. He knew he couldn’t give in and let him go back to bed- he’d never feel better while he’s in this state- but the look in his eyes. It was so… void. So tired. So… emotionless. Yet full of emotion. Twisting and turning. Hurt, anger, sadness and an utter lack of anything positive.
“Ok. In that case, only 2 more things. We’re gonna brush your teeth and shower,” Cole said, Kai’s face falling in desperation. Evidently, he didn’t want to do either of those things; but Cole knew full well that he wouldn’t do it of his own volition.
“Please, firefly. We can watch a movie or something after that. I just… want you to feel better. I’m doing this for your own good. Plus, I’ll help you. I won’t get in the shower with you, but if you need help with anything I’ll stay in the bathroom while you’re in there. Just… how about this. Just wash your hair. Then I can put some deodorant on you and wipe your face. Are you ok with that?” Kai nodded in response, eliciting a small smile from Cole.
“Good. I’m so insanely proud of you Kai, for working with me here. I know how hard it can be when you get like this so I know how much it’s taking for you to do this right now. So, I’m insanely proud of you for actually going along with me,” Cole said sincerely, raising his free hand and resting it on Kai’s cheek. Kai leant into his hand and smiled a small, but tired, smile, raising his own hand and resting it on top of Cole’s.
Walking towards the bathroom, Kai took a reluctant breath and stepped inside, Cole following soon after. Cole turned the water on, pulling the mildly disgusting shirt off of Kai and tossing it into the laundry basket, letting him take off his boxers. Slowly stepping into the shower, Kai winced as the hot water hit his skin, cascading down his body and washing any surface-level grime away. His arms were lead; his eyelids hanging heavily over his eyes. He couldn’t do this.
“Cole,” He said weakly, not moving from under the warm water, “I want to get out.”
“Come on Kai, don’t give up now,” Cole replied softly, moving towards the shower and opening the curtain, seeing the exhausted look in his eyes, “I’ll wash your hair. How about that?” Kai nodded slowly. Cole smiled, pulling his own shirt over his head and discarding it to the side, reaching around his boyfriend and grabbing the shampoo, making sure Kai’s hair was wet enough before applying any. He slowly massaged it into his skull, looking down from his hair to Kai every so often to give him a comforting smile. Kai sighed contently, feeling the first bout of comfort; and even the first sliver of joy; in days. The feeling of Cole’s fingers on his head… knowing he was here and he was ok and alive. He was alive. Cole was here. The steady scratching and rubs keeping him grounded.
Quickly washing the shampoo out of Kai’s hair and turning off the water, Cole smiled, taking Kai’s hand again and leading him out and towards the sink. Cole grabbed his robe from the back of the door, bundling Kai up in it to assure he stayed warm. Cole laughed a little, looking down at Kai’s short, thin figure wrapped in his large robe, like a baby in a teenagers coat.
“What?”
“You just look really cute. You know like when a little kid just gets out of the shower. Their hair’s all slicked back and their bathrobe is about 10 sizes too big?” Kai blushed and crinkled his brow indignantly.
“I do not look like a child, not all of us were blessed to be 6 foot you know,” He huffed, pulling the robe around himself tighter.
“Yes, you do! You’re my cute little baby boy!” Cole said enthusiastically, noticing the smallest of sparkes light up in Kai’s eyes again as he glared indignantly at his boyfriend. With a laugh, Cole grabbed Kai’s toothbrush, putting some toothpaste on it and splattering it with water.
“Open up baby boy!” Cole said with a grin. Kai rolled his eyes and opened his mouth, allowing him to quickly brush his teeth. Grabbing a face wipe from the cupboard, he gently scrubbed the grease off of his boyfriend’s face. Then, finally, he grabbed a can of deodorant and sprayed him all over, banishing any thought of odour away from their minds (and bodies). Cole grabbed his shirt from the spot on the floor where it had landed earlier and pulled it back over his head.
“Hair drying time now,” Cole said, grabbing a clean towel from the cupboard and laying it over Kai’s wet hair, gently beginning to rub it, dragging the worst of the moisture out. Kai sighed in contentment, feeling himself shake and move as Cole dried his hair, the rough towel feeling heavenly as it dragged along his scalp, massaging any worries or unnecessary emotions away. Now all he felt was a deep feeling of peace and quiet.
“Damn, I’ll rub your head more often, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this happy,” Cole said with a laugh, continuing to softly rub his head with the towel, unable to contain his laughter at the small noises of contentment coming from Kai. Eventually, he took the towel back off his head and smiled down at his boyfriend, ruffling his hair affectionately.
“Now we just need to get you some clothes, then it’s dumb movie time,” Kai smiled, his lips softly curving into a smile; a real one.
“Can I wear your clothes?” he said softly, his voice still hoarse from barely speaking this last week.
“Of course firefly, it’d be rude of me not to!” Cole said lightly, taking his hand and leading him to his room, immediately grabbing his largest hoodie and sweatpants. He helped Kai put them on and stared down at him in awe.
“You. Are. So. Damn. Small!” Cole said happily, looking at his boyfriend’s small frame being taken over by his large clothing.
“No, you’re just too big,” Kai said indignantly, stuffing his hands in the pockets of the hoodie.
“You know I mean it lovingly, you just look too cute in my clothes,” Cole gleamed, his face lighting up in pure delight. Kai said nothing, just let out a small giggle, his face glowing crimson.
“Now come! My sweet little baby boy! We shall watch dumb movies made for people 10 years younger than us until you feel better!” Cole exclaimed, sweeping Kai off his feet and holding him bridal style, carrying him towards his own room where he dumped him on the bed, turning on the TV and preparing for at least a day of watching weird movies and enjoying each others company.

then i rewatch the first 4 seasons and realise why. he is written awfully compared to everyone else. he doesnt have a personality outside of his hair nd being in love with skylor in s4 like... even in s5 its shaky bc they tried to like. push a personality onto him all of a sudden so he went from this flat, boring nd frankly annoying character to overbearing nd suddenly all in ur face with it.
dont even get me started on post s8 kai... he has personality but they throw away the hardwork they did in s6/7 nd hes no longer very headstrong, caring and over protective. he just reverts back to dumbass with hair and sometimes comes out with a funny line or quip.
ALSO NO ONE LISTENS TO HIM????? BOY HAS NO SELF CONFIDENCE THEN EVERYONE EXPECTS HIM TO BE THE FUNNY GOOD LOOKING DUMBASS ONE?????
idk if thats just me but damn... they did my boy dirty

i got diagnosed with adhd yesterday nd can i just say how comforting it is to finally understand myself more? in college i’ll be entitled to extra time and breaks in my exams, i might be able to get medication to sort my brain out... this is why i wanted to get a diagnoses. the relief i feel is just... it’s so satisfying to know that for the last like 5 years i’m not crazy and my brain is just wired differently
