During the last PE class of the first semester, Kiyoharu Togawa agrees to race the 100M dash against the fastest boy in his class and nearly beats him, earning an invitation to the school's track team.

He soon dedicates his life to becoming the fastest sprinter in the nation, but just as his goal seems in reach, he is diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and loses his right leg below the knee.

He spends much of his time after the amputation in isolation, feeling his life is over until meeting Tora, an older man with an identical disability, a rotationplasty. Tora, a cool jet-setting tattoo artist, serves as a mentor to Togawa and introduces him to the world of wheelchair basketball through his team the Tigers.

Conflicts arise when he is offered a spot on the Japanese national team and is invited to join the Dream, the Tigers' arch-rivals. [wiki]

BOOK: Lev Myshkin (The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoevsky) - Epilepsy

The Idiot is a novel by the 19th-century Russian author Fyodor Dostoevsky. It was first published serially in the journal The Russian Messenger in 1868–69.

The title is an ironic reference to the central character of the novel, Lev Nikolayevich Myshkin, a young prince whose goodness, open-hearted simplicity, and guilelessness lead many of the more worldly characters he encounters to mistakenly assume that he lacks intelligence and insight.

Joseph Frank describes The Idiot as "the most personal of all Dostoevsky's major works, the book in which he embodies his most intimate, cherished, and sacred convictions."

It includes descriptions of some of his most intense personal ordeals, such as epilepsy and mock execution, and explores moral, spiritual, and philosophical themes consequent upon them. His primary motivation in writing the novel was to subject his own highest ideal, that of true Christian love, to the crucible of contemporary Russian society. [wiki] [sparknotes]

Stumpy Stumpson is a supporting character in Amphibia. He resides in Wartwood Swamp and is the cook and owner of the restaurant, Stumpy's Diner which is named after himself.

He is a sizable green frog with yellow colored eyes and a white shirt, stained with grease and other stains, and several scars on his body. He possesses an interchangeable hand, usually with a spatula (carved from the bones of his missing hand) in it, but can be swapped for a battle hammer. One of his legs is missing and has been replaced with a piece of wood. He is also usually seen with a crab's leg in his mouth and a greasy chef's hat. [wiki]

CODA is a 2021 coming-of-age comedy-drama film written and directed by Sian Heder. An English-language remake of the 2014 French-Belgian film La Famille Bélier, it stars Emilia Jones as Ruby Rossi, the child of deaf adults (CODA) and only hearing member of her family, who attempts to help her family's struggling fishing business while pursuing her aspirations to become a singer.

The movie uses deaf actors to play the deaf characters, who, along with Jones, communicate using American Sign Language. Eugenio Derbez, Troy Kotsur, Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Daniel Durant (in his feature film debut), and Marlee Matlin are featured in supporting roles. [wiki] [imdb]

VIDEO GAMES: Khalid (Baldur's Gate) - Speech Impediment

Khalid is a neutral good half-elf fighter and a potential companion in Baldur's Gate (1998), the Tales of the Sword Coast (1999) and Siege of Dragonspear (2016).

He can be an excellent archer, next only to Coran, close in power to Kivan, and it never hurts to have one more archer in Baldur's Gate.

He is a rather shy and timid fellow whose speech is handicapped by a stutter, and thus tends to avoid crowds and cities. He doesn't go into detail on how he met his wife Jaheira, but his adoration and devotion is obvious. [wiki]
