Conspiracy Theory: Butch Hartman hates British People
Sorry for the click bait this is more of a ramble than anything else but it’s a point I’ve always wanted to bring up.
Fairly Oddparents used to include a lot of national stereotypes to portray the rest of the world and they were honestly so damn over-the-top that with the exception it was hard to find them truly offensive, I think. I always knew, as a sheltered American whose never left my country that, of course Australians don’t ride in kangaroo pouches and throw boomerangs at computers.
I can’t remember too much about Danny Phantom and this is going just off the FOP episodes I remember as a kid, so I’m not saying this stereotyping was ‘okay’ it was just waaay down on the list of 2000s animation stereotypes....until they got to making fun of the British.
Given it’s history, Great Britain is a comparatively easy target to make fun of for the rest of the world, much like America (or Butch Hartman now :3 ). But like...there’s Brits making fun of themselves, there’s Indians taking rightful cracks at them, and then there’s Americans making all these mean accusations about how weird Britain is.
Remember the ep with the founding fathers and how with Washington, Franklin, and Jefferson taken out of the timeline everything around Timmy turns into this colonial nightmare?
Or how bout the episode where Vicky has a crush on the British kid who talks only about “the hunt”, has rotten teeth, and is shown to be a wimp? IDK somehow that came off as really mean spirited to me. Again, there’s The Simpsons and “The Big Book of British Smiles” and then there’s making an overblown stereotype to mock these people who are just sooooogrossfornotstraighteningtheirteeth EUGH! and who are so backwards that if we hadn’t succeeded from them we’d be all archaic, cause it’s not like Britain had any part to play in the industrial revolution ((something that’s ACTUALLY worth mocking, cause both of us were colonialist, child-abusers)).
And to top off my conspiracy theory, never forget, Butch Hartman was the one who localized Doogal.

Americans dubbing over British stuff is insane. We don’t do that to Canadians or Australians. They’re speaking ENGLISH. But oh man I CAN’T TAKE THESE BRITISHISMS WHAT DO THESE HEATHENS MEAN BY ‘GET THE TORCH’ DON’T THEY KNOW IT’S A FLASHLIGHT????!?!?!?!?!!
For the record - one of my OCs is a take on Spring-Heeled Jack and he’s a total cockney stereotype full of Britishisms. I would HOPE that if a non-American (who wasn’t JKR) wrote about my countries’ cryptids they’d include the southern/western twang, cowboy hats, capatlism and gun-totin we’re known for ((AS YOU SHOULD)). I digress but what I’m trying to say is, with SH-Jack I’m NOT trying to make fun of Britain as a country or it’s people. I’m making fun of a sleazy boogieman who’s the worst parts of the society he comes from, which is Victorian England. If I ever got to writing about Jack inhabits you’d see there are boogiefolk from all over the world and the same is mostly true for the American creatures like Rawhead Bloodybones.
I think it’s that these episodes linger on these jokes too long and, again, Britain is considered a more acceptable stereotype so I guess it’s okay to be as punchy and cruel as you want?
Lookee here Butch: I’m all for making fun of Floridians, Texans, and Californians cause everyone makes fun of them(/us. I’m Californian!) But I mean... if I made a joke in a children’s show about how Floridians are crazy cracked out people who ride alligators to work, Texans are all inbred white-supremacists, and Calis are all vapid, rich anti-vaxxers.....well I wouldn’t blame Floridians, Texans and other Californians for getting mad. ESPECIALLY if it was in a kid’s show and was saying othering these people.
TL;DR: Acceptable target =/= saying anything + everything you want and reducing people to stereotypes.
You’re no Brandon Rogers.
I feel like I’m forgetting a crueler stereotype on FOP. I don’t think it was Sanjay as he and Trixie barely had any ethnic or cultural jokes made about them besides Sanjay’s accent.

Sunday, Week Five Thoughts and Predictions
New England-Washington:
I get not wanting to start Haskins against a New England defense that looks like the league’s best, but Colt McCoy? Sounds like a great way to destroy your rookies confidence! This should be a bloodbath, and Jay Gruden shouldn’t be coaching this team for much longer.
Jacksonville-Carolina:
The battle of the backups who might just take control of the starting jobs by the time the starters are healthy. Even without Kawann Short, this Carolina defense (and especially the front seven) is the toughest Gardner Minshew has seen, and Brian Burns is the early front runner for DROY. I don’t want to make too much out of just two starts, but Kyle Allen has been able to avoid turnovers while completing passes *downfield* at a really nice rate, which is all you can really ask for from a first time starter. Carolina has a better team and playing at home against a Ramsey-less Jags squad, I think they take this one.
Vikings-Giants:
Kirk Cousins has been getting the bulk of the blame for Minnesota’s 2-2 start, and while I’ve long been a Cousin’s defender, I’m running out of other reasons as to why the team is struggling. The defense is as great as ever, Dalvin Cook looks like an all-pro, and the Thielen-Diggs-Rudolph trio is as good as it gets in terms of pass catchers. Sure, the pass blocking is bad, but I almost feel like the line is getting TOO much blame. Apart from the rookie Center Garrett Bradbury, there’s nobody who isn’t playing at least passably. It comes down to the QB, as usual, and Cousins just isn’t getting it done. Look for him to bounce back against an average Giants defense (and expect a huge game for whoever’s matched up against rookie Deandre Baker, maybe the league’s worst starting corner) and hand Danny Dimes his first career L.
Arizona-Cincinnati:
Yawn. I don’t have a lot to say about this, but the Cards pass rush against the Bengals putrid offensive line will not be pretty. Kyler should be able to pick apart this Bengals secondary if he gets time (a really big “if”), and I think he’ll earn the first win of his career.
Chicago-Oakland:
Look, I know Khalil Mack is gonna be on a mission to make life hell for the team who traded him, but the Oakland offensive line has been one of the better units in the league so far. In fact, the entire offense has been solid in wake of the AB saga, and Derrick Carr is finally playing like the 2016 version of himself again. Their other side of the ball is mediocre, but Chicago’s Offense was one of the league’s worst even before Trubisky got hurt. Tarik Cohen doesn’t look at all like a number one back, and Allen Robinson is their only legit receiving threat. Ya know what, I’m gonna do it. I’m picking Oakland!
Tampa Bay-New Orleans:
This sneaky good game is full of intriguing matchups. The stellar Saints o-line against the Bucs d-line, and in particular Ndamukong Suh and DPOY frontrunner Shaq Barrett. Breakout receiver Chris Godwin against slot corner PJ Williams. Mike Evans against corner Marcus Lattimore. This Saints defense is probably the best of the Drew Brees era, and I can’t wait to see how they handle this high flying Bruce Arians attack, but the other side of the ball will ultimately decide the game. If the Bucs can force Teddy Bridgewater to make decisions out of Sean Payton’s structure, they’ll have the advantage. But that’s a task that two better defenses, the Seahawks and the Cowboys, have both failed at, so I’ll take the Saints.
Jets-Eagles:
The Eagles were my preseason pick to win the Super Bowl, and their 2-2 start hasn’t done much to put a damper on my expectations of them. They’ve played much better than their record, and Wentz looks like himself already. The lack of receivers they have is troubling (Stefan Diggs?), but his brilliance offsets that. On the other side, their front seven is unreal, they’re gonna feast on an awful Jets line. As disappointing as the Jets have been, it’s hard to blame them when they’ve played all but a game and a half with a third string QB. I’m reserving my judgement for when we see a few games of Darnold, but he’s not playing tomorrow, and the Eagles should cruise.
Ravens-Steelers:
I’m picking the Ravens because the Steelers have been a mess against teams that aren’t the Bengals, but I’m worried about Baltimore’s defense. After being the AFC’s best and adding Earl Thomas in the offseason, the defense is 27th in total yards allowed and 30th (!!!) in passing yards allowed. Outside of Thomas, who’s been fine but not great, the secondary has been a mess without Jimmy Smith. Marlon Humphrey has taken a step back, Brandon Carr is starting to show his age, and Tony Jefferson is playing his worst football ever. The Ravens offense will come back down to earth sometime, and they’d better hope the figure out their defense by the time it does.
Atlanta-Houston:
I think the only significant matchup that favors the Falcons is their front seven against Houston’s weak o-line. I mean, their receivers are a lot better than Houston’s secondary, but will Ryan have enough time behind HIS awful line? And even if he does, will he make a good throw? I’m picking the Texans, and man, this Atlanta team is depressing to think about. Two and a half years ago they had a commanding lead in the Super Bowl. Now they’re.... well, on to the next one.
Tennessee-Buffalo:
Two awesome defenses, two mediocre offenses, two conservative QBs. All the makings of a shootout! But seriously, can we take this moment to recognize Kevin Byard? Since his second year (2017), he’s been (in my opinion) the best safety in football, playing spectacular D in the box and in coverage, and nobody ever mentions him! I guess that’s what happens when you play in Tennessee, but it’s a shame. The rest of his secondary is pretty average, while Buffalo comes into town with the league’s best defensive backfield, especially the safety tandem of Hyde and Poyer. The Bills are gonna win this football game on the strength of their DB’s, and they’re not gonna slow down any time soon, with Miami and Washington as two of their next three matchups. This team is a true wild card contender.
Broncos-Chargers:
The Chargers are the unluckiest team in football. I feel bad for them after all of their injuries to key players, but this should be an easy win against a mess of a Broncos squad. That’s really all I have to say.
Green Bay-Dallas:
The Cowboys first loss of the year was in large part a result of the weakest play calling outing yet by OC Kellen Moore, but he won’t get much time to get things right as he faces a very nice Packers D. That defense *did* allowe inferior Eagles running backs to go wild last week, though, so look for Ezekiel Elliott to have a bounce back game. Aaron Rodgers will be without top five wideout Davante Adams, and the rest of his targets have been quite underwhelming this year. He won’t have much time to wait for them to get open, either, against Demarcus Lawrence and the shockingly awesome Robert Quinn. I’m taking Dallas.
Kansas City-Indianapolis:
Patrick Mahomes and that offense had a stinker (by their high standards) against a really good Detroit team, and they still won. I don’t like the odds for an Indy squad coming off a loss to Oakland, but I think it’ll at least be close. KC by 5.

their deal: danny is incredibly in love with ikiru but tends to avoid any type of serious conversation with them due to his fear of confrontation. he worries that he'll never be enough for him because he's just a substitute teacher in contrast to ikiru being a Literal Astronaut. they've been drifting apart during the lead up to ikiru's expedition to the black hole. the night before the expedition, they have a fight where danny tries to have a serious conversation with ikiru which they respond to by breaking up with him. then dying in a black hole. (he didn't die don't worry)
fun fact: danny is v much inspired by waymond from eeaao as well as a tiktok i saw where a girl used lovebug as a term of endearment which led to me wanting to create a character that would do the same thing

so this lovely gentleman is mr. ikiru kojima and he's an astronaut! or like. he was before their spaceship got torn tf apart and they were flung into a black hole and then woke up in a totally different dimension which. Sucks. their last message was to their boyfriend danny who (yay!) exists in this dimension but (no!) has never met ikiru because they never existed in this world. which is a bummer judging off my friend's reaction in da discord
