The doors opened and you took a deep breath of fresh air. Dakota went to film with Alex and you went to talk to Tanner.
“Hey Tanner.” you greeted your friend. “Hey (y/n)? You ok?” he asked you. “Yeah, I’m ok. I just wanted to say sorry for overreacting earlier. It was really silly of me, and I hope you know I would never actually mean that.” You apologized. He looked down at you with a smile. “I know (y/n), it’s ok. I know you just want to protect him and I do too. C’mere.” He said and opened his arms to you. You wrapped your arms around him and held him tightly. “I want you safe too Tanner, I want all of you safe I hope you know that,” you said to your friend. “I know that, and I want you safe too we all do. We’ll keep each other safe.” he said and let go. You nodded your head in agreement. "Of course.”
Dakota walked over to you both and you could see his eyes looked a bit glassy. Your heart sunk he walked straight to you and wrapped his arms around you. Tanner walked away letting you both have a moment.
“What happened my love?” you asked softly as his head rested in the crook of your neck.
“I swear it doesn’t want us down there. I’m so nervous about this. I really don’t want anyone going back down there. I don’t want to go back down there.” he admitted to you.
You held him tighter and kissed his head. “I’m so sorry babe, I don’t want you down there either. I can’t stand the thought of you down there by yourself,” you said and he pulled away. You placed your hands on his cheeks. He looked at you with those beautiful eyes that you loved so much. You could see the fear glimmer in his eyes, and it caused a frown to form on your face.
“If you get the basement/bowling alley, I don’t want you to go alone. I’ll go with you ok,” you reassured him.  “No, I don’t want to bend the rules because I’m scared. You’ll have your walkie close?” He asked you. “Of course I will, but are you sure you don’t want me with you?” you asked him just to make sure.
“I’m sure,” he answered you. You nodded and let your hands slip from his face and down to his shoulders. Rubbing his shoulders gently trying to calm him down a bit. He leaned down and pressed his lips to yours letting his hands grip your waist, your hands moved from his shoulders and to the back of his neck to play with his hair. He sighed into the kiss held you tighter. Your lips moved together slowly as if trying to memorize the feeling.
“Hey! If you guys would stop making out I’d like to get this night over with!” Alex called over to you. You broke away and took a breath before letting a smile fall on your lips and dropping your head onto his shoulder. He let out a chuckle, something you haven’t heard all night and it made your smile brighter. “I guess we should appease the crowd huh?” you asked with a raised brow.
“I think it would be best,” he said. You let go of him and were about to grab his hand and walk back to the group but he pulled you back to him and pressed one more short kiss on your lips just to annoy the group. You heard aggravate groaning and it made you giggle against his lips. You pulled away once more and dragged him toward your friends. “Alright, alright, we’re here. Sorry.” You jokingly apologized. Chelsea shook her head and bit back a smile.
--
“Alright. So, right now, we are going to sleep separately. This is gonna raise our fear levels, and hopefully, ramp up the activity in the sanatorium.” Your boyfriend informed the audience.
You rolled your eyes. “I totally hope that happens.” you retort sarcastically. “I know right.” Dakota shot back. You glared at him playfully.
“So, we should agree on the five scariest locations. We already kinda have,” he said and looked at you all. “Yeah. we know it is definitely the bowling alley.” Tanner said.
“Bowling alley for sure is the worst one,” Dakota said.
“The electroshock therapy room.” Chelsea put it out there as well.
“Absolutely the electroshock therapy room, so many people were tortured there,” you said.
“And then the suicide bathroom for sure.” Tanner threw that on the table as well.
“Suicide bathroom it’s on the third floor you’re so far away from everyone else. So yeah the three that we have are on this building.” Dakota said. “Someone should be in the east building in that creepy winding corridor.” Tanner also suggested. “Yeah, the basement.” you piped up.
“So, we did a walk-through of the east building earlier, and nothing happened, but when we were down in the basement that’s when it felt like we were not alone,” Dakota explained to everyone.
“We also have the boiler room, which really fucking creeped me out,” you said and a shiver ran up your spine at the thought of having to sleep alone down there.
“Right yeah,” Chelsea confirmed.
“So Tanner’s gonna now write these five locations out on paper and then we’re gonna draw out of a hat and decide where we sleep for the night.” Tanner placed all of the locations in the hat, and you clenched and unclenched your fists nervously.
“Okay, you got it?” Dakota asked him.
Tanner held out the hat toward Chelsea first and you could tell she was nervous.
She quickly grabbed one and showed the small crumpled ball of paper to the camera with a nervous smile.
“Alright Chelsea, where are you sleeping?” her brother asked her. She looked right at him.
“I don’t even want to tell you,” she said and you chuckled.
You looked at her paper over her shoulder and cringed.
“Ooh. Electroshock.” All of you cringed at the location. “That’s the second-worst one, you said.” She relays.
Dakota moved the camera forward to get a good look at her paper. “Chelsea got the electroshock therapy room. I think Alex should draw next.” He suggested with a grin.
“Alex.” he held the hat out for him, he reached his hand in and pulled out a paper to unravel his location.
“Suicide bathroom,” he said with disappointment dripping from his words as he showed the camera.
“Not to scare you anymore Alex but you are three whole floors above anyone else,” Dakota said, and you placed your hand on your best friend’s arm in a comforting manner. “You’ll be ok Al.” you smiled at him reassuringly.
“Ok babe, you’re up. It’s between the east basement, bowling alley, and the boiler room,” he said and gave you a grin.
“I better not get the boiler room or I’ll be pissed I swear.” you shook your head as you reached in to grab a paper. “Hey, at least you won’t be three floors away from anyone else,” Alex said. You gave him a sarcastic grin. “Yeah, that makes me feel great Al.” he chuckled at you.
“Alright, let’s see what you got,” Chelsea said while looking over your shoulder as you unraveled the paper.
The minute your eyes scanned the paper you immediately dropped your arms to your sides in exasperation. “No way. No way in hell!” you exclaimed.
“She got the boiler room,” Chelsea explained to everyone. “I got the damn boiler room.” you sighed before holding up the paper to the camera.
Alex threw an arm over your shoulder and pulled you into a side hug. You leaned into it and sighed.
You grabbed Dakota’s camera and began filming for him while he and Tanner chose.
“I hope it’s not the bowling alley because I feel like I’ve been picked on this whole night.” he ran his hands through his hair out of anxiety. “Ok, whatever. I’m just gonna do it. I’m just gonna do it” he tried to muster the courage and reached into the hat when Tanner did. When both of them had their paper.
“Open at the same time. Don’t look.” Alex said.
They both unraveled their paper at the same time. “Bowling alley.” your boyfriend read off and your stomach lurched. “No!” he exclaimed loudly while Tanner jumped in excitement and relief that he didn’t have to sleep down there. While you were happy for him you were extremely worried for your boyfriend seeing as he most definitely was being messed with down there. Dakota had a smile on his face but you knew just how scared he was of that place and it broke your heart.
“Dude, I got touched down there. A handprint showed up on my back,” he said. You looked away because tears were collecting in your eyes. “I’m scared for all three of us,” Chelsea said and looked at her brother.
“Honestly, the bowling…” he cut himself off. “Can we redraw?” he asked.
You sighed and turned away from everyone else preparing to go get your things for the sleeping arrangements. Your boyfriend noticed that you had gone completely silent and looked over at you. Your back was turned to him, and he could practically see you trying to not breathe too hard.
He could tell that you were about to cry and made his way over to you.
The others were already grabbing their things.
“Hey,” he said trying to get your attention. You didn’t turn around and so he tried again this time walking around to face you. “Hey, babe look at me,” he said and you released a shaky breath before looking up at him. He could see the shine in your eyes from unshed tears and sighed.
He pulled you into a hug and you held him tightly.
“We can trade places. I know the boiler room still sucks and it’s super close, but it would be better than the bowling alley,” you suggested though it was a bit muffled by his chest seeing as you buried your head there.
Though your voice was muffled he heard you and pulled away from you. “There is no way, I would ever let you sleep in that bowling alley. Not after what happened tonight and to Chelsea last time. I’ll be ok, we’re close together ok. If you scream for me I’ll be right there, and I know you’d do the same for me. We’ll be ok babe, I promise you.” he said and kissed away the tears that fell down your cheeks. He nudged your nose with his gently and placed a kiss on it. It brought a small smile to your lips, and he smiled as well. “We’ll be ok,” he reassured you both one more time before grabbing your hand so you could both gather your things and head to your locations.
--
You all walked Alex up to the third floor and helped him set up. You made sure to give him a big supportive hug before leaving. “Love you Al!” you called while walking away. “Love you (y/n)!” he called back.
You made your way down to electroshock to drop off Chels and help her set up before giving her a hug as well. All of you said your I love you’s, getting the same response back. The next stop was Dakota, you and Tanner help him set up and Tanner wished him luck. You walked over and kissed him. “I love you, Kota. Just walkie me ok, or scream whatever you think will work better.” you joked a bit. He gave you a soft chuckle before kissing your cheek. You began to walk away with Tanner and sighed when you reached the boiler room.
You set your stuff down and Tanner helped you set the camera up before giving you a hug and wishing you luck. “Hey, wait,” you called after him. He turned back around with his flashlight in hand. “You ok?” he asked. “Yeah, I just wanted to know if you wanted me to walk with you so you aren’t alone,” you said to him. He gave you a warm smile and shook his head. “No, no I’ll be ok. Plus if I ever said yes to that here I’m pretty sure Dakota would kick my ass.” he joked which made you laugh. “I guess you’re not wrong. Well if you need anything just walkie me alright,” you said and he nodded. “Night, Tanner, love you!” you called and he responded the same.
--
You sat yourself on the ground and sighed heavily knowing you were not even going to be able to shut your eyes that night. “This is gonna be a night from hell…” you spoke to yourself.
“So, I am in the boiler room which is right next to the bowling alley actually so me and Dakota are very close to each other. Which is really strange because none of us have been this close in a location before but hey, I am not complaining about it,” you spoke to the camera. “At least I’ll be close to my boyfriend if I die here,” you said with a sigh.
As soon as the words left your mouth you hear what sounded like faint laughter. Your heart dropped as you shone your flashlight throughout the room. “That was a laugh, I just heard a laugh.” you began to panic. “Shit, I hope the camera caught that,” you mumbled to yourself.
The night had just started and you already felt more unsafe than before.
You picked up your walkie to get a hold of Dakota to ask if he had heard it too. Seeing as you were practically right next to him he had to have heard it.
“Kota,” you called.
“(y/n), what’s up?” he asked with a concerned tone.
“Did you just hear laughter? Or did you maybe laugh at all?” you asked him anxiously.
“What? No, I didn’t laugh. You heard laughter?” he asked in a panic.
At that moment you could just tell you were screwed.
“Yeah, it was very faint but I heard it. I’m not sure where it came from but I swear on my life I heard it,” you explain to him. “We’re not even 20 minutes in, and this is already frickin sick,” you said in a frustrated huff.
“We’ve got this, only a few hours left ok.” his voice crackled through the walkie.
“Alright Kota, you know what to do if you need me,” you told him.
“Got it see you soon.” he ended.
You went back to just sitting in the dark just waiting for something to come out at you. You knew for a fact that you were not alone in the room. It made your skin crawl at the feeling of someone or something watching you.
--
You sat there in the dark making sure to listen for Dakota if he yelled for you or if something happened. As you sat there you still couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched. Seeing as you were so focused on listening you suddenly heard something go by you. It wasn’t like walking more like the sound of shuffling as if someone were to crawl across the floor. It made you freeze in your place your breath got caught in your throat and you felt completely helpless. You wanted to walkie your boyfriend or even just yell for him because you were so scared but you didn’t want him to worry more than he already was. You knew that something wasn’t willing to let up and it scared you more than you had been at any other location.
You finally let out a shaky breath, “I just heard something literally crawl past me I swear on my life. I know I’ve been like a baby this entire night but damn…” your voice broke. You hated feeling weak but tonight you just couldn’t help it. You were extremely emotional and it most definitely wasn’t helping your situation. You needed to pull yourself together for your sake and everyone else’s. “Ok, I’m pulling myself together. I’m gonna be ok, Dakota is gonna be ok, we’re all gonna be ok. We’re stronger than this thing.” you spoke to yourself as calmly and confidently as you could. After saying this you once again heard faint laughter and it made you jump and turn your flashlight on to scan around the room. Still, you saw nothing but knew you would always feel something watching you. You took a breath and kept the light on for a few more seconds before turning it off and trying to push the events to the side. You just tried to focus on everyone else and it seemed to help slightly so that’s what you kept in your mind.
--
It was about an hour later when you began hearing noises again. You heard what sounded like tapping, “what the hell?” you whispered.
Then you heard your boyfriend from the other room.
“What the fuck? Ok. No. No.” your head snapped in his direction.
“Dakota! Hey, are you ok?!” you yelled. You heard him gasp. “Shit” he mumbled.
“Did you not hear that?!” he called to you. “The tapping?!” you asked. “No, the loud scratching noise!” he shot back. Your eyes widened, and all of a sudden things felt really heavy.
“No, I didn’t! Are you ok?!” you yelled hoping to get a good answer back.
“Fuck that was loud.” you heard him say. “Red if you’re down here, please leave me alone.” he pleaded. Your heart wrenched at the tone of his voice.
You got up from your spot as quickly as you could and grabbed your camera and flashlight. You made your way out of the room and into the bowling alley where your boyfriend sat with his head in his hands.
“Kota, hey. I’m here are you ok?” you asked softly trying not to startle him. He looked up at you and his eyes flooded with relief.
“(y/n), crap you should’ve heard it. It was frickin terrifying, and it was so loud,” he said as you sat down next to him letting one hand rest on his back while you set the light on the floor next to you.
His tense muscles relaxed at your touch and he sighed.
“I’m so sorry. Is there any way that Chelsea may have made the noise? I know she’s above us but maybe she did it.” you suggested. “I’ll check right now,” he said and picked up his walkie.
“Hey, Chelsea,” he said into the walkie.
“What?” she asked sounding exhausted.
“You’re not moving at all upstairs?” he questioned his big sister.
“Not moving at all,” she answered. You could tell that she was ready to be done with this place just as much as you were.
“You have to hear this. What I just heard.” Dakota said to her.
“Thanks for sharing your fear. Now I’m fricking wide awake,” she responds.
He sighs heavily. “Fuck.” you said in exhaustion.
“What was that?” he asked.
“I believe you. We know you’re down here.” he talked.
“I’ve heard you. You’ve talked to me, she heard you laughing earlier. I get it. We get it. Please leave us alone.” Dakota spoke into the dark. You both knew he was there, and it was even scarier that he didn’t respond, and knowing the things that had happened earlier in the night to you. You decided not to mention it in fear of making his fear worsen and his panic rise even more.
You turned to face him. “Do you need me to stay with you Dakota?” you asked him with sincerity floating around your words, quietly hoping he would ask you to stay, as you didn’t think you could handle that room alone.
He let out a heavy sigh before looking at you with disappointed and fear-filled eyes.
“Honestly, please. I really don’t want to be, I can’t be here alone anymore,” he responded and you set down your camera to wrap your arm around him and sit close to his side. “Then, I’ll stay. Just like I said. I’ll stay.” you told him and rested your head on his shoulder. Letting out an internal sigh of relief. He placed his head atop yours and let your presence be a grounding force for him.
“I’m sorry I made us do this.” you heard his voice, it was small and sounded so apologetic.
“Hey, it’s ok. Look at us, hell yeah we’re scared, and rightfully so but we’re together and we’re close to the finish line and then we can leave and never have to come back.” you tried to relieve his fears.
“I never should have brought us back here,” he said and put his head in his hands once again. You switched your positions so you were sitting in front of him.  You took his wrists in your smaller hands and pulled his hands away so you could properly look at him. You could see guilt forming in him and you understood why, but you also understood why he had done it. He wanted to conquer this building because they didn’t before.
“Listen to me, Dakota. You came back here, to conquer the challenge that you quit last time. Now here you are hours and hours in. You’re here, we are all here and we won’t let it win. We can beat this. So let’s do it together huh.” you said and tried to smile though it was barely visible in the darkness.
“Together,” he said. “Together,” you reaffirmed.

Slipped, Tripped, and Fell in Love -- A Destination Fear One Shot (Chelsea Laden/Reader)
Requested by the DFAM Discord server ( @spookiesandstuff, @poweredbyghostadventures, and @buttsology to name a few. Let me know if I missed some)
~CW: mentions of blood~
The Destination Fear crew, including its newest member, were now at the halfway point in their road trip. After Tanner’s choice at the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast in Fall River, Massachusetts, everyone piled into the RV for a long couple of days. It was Chelsea’s pick next, and it appears that you all are heading to the west coast.
You were cuddling into Chelsea on the couch while the boys took up the benches at the table after she did her opening monologue. Dakota, Alex, and Tanner were trying to get hints from Chelsea on the location you were heading to, but Chelsea was not giving them any.
“Okay, but what about the upcoming pit stop?” Dakota almost whines out.
“Yeah, can we know about it?” Tanner asks.
“Alright, I’ll tell you,” Chelsea says while looking at everyone.
Everyone seemed to cheer before quickly quieting down to hear what Chelsea had to say.
“Instead of your typical sailing in the water, we will be land sailing,” she proclaims. When everyone around Chelsea gave her a confused look, she explained, “We will be in a wheeled vehicle powered by wind with a sail as we move across land. We should be there in about 20 minutes.”
Those 20 minutes seemed to pass rather quickly as you enjoyed being close with your girlfriend. Everyone quickly got out of the RV to get all ready for land sailing. After a quick tutorial on how to operate the sail wagon and putting on a helmet, you guys were all set to start your adventure with land sailing. Figuring out the sail wagon took a minute, but shortly everyone was getting the hang of it. Laughs of pure enjoyment filled the air as you all cruised for roughly half an hour.
        And then it happened.
You’re not sure as to how, but one minute you were enjoying the ride and the next you were skidding on the ground on your non-dominant side outside of your toppled over vehicle. The buckle must have undone when it tipped.
A sail wagon comes to a complete stop next to you as the driver gets out as quickly as possible.
“Holy shit are you alright?” you recognize to be your girlfriend questioning.
“Yeah, I should be good. Might be bruised by the morning though,” you say as you reach your dominant hand out for Chelsea to help pull you up. Once back on your feet, you go to start brushing the sand from your legs before continuing, “Luckily I was wearing pants and long sleeves to-”
Your sentence trails off as you notice the sleeve of the arm you slid on had rolled up and blood was trickling down your arm. Imagine road rash with sand stuck in some of it and that was what your arm looked like.
Immense worry appeared on Chelsea’s face, “We need to head back right now and get this taken care of,” she says as she tries waving Dakota, Alex, and Tanner to head back.
After righting your sail wagon, you quickly head back to get your arm cleaned up with Chelsea’s vehicle right beside yours. Your girlfriend asks about a first aid kit and insisted on being the one to patch you up.
“I’m sorry,” she says while removing as much sand left in your arm as she can.
“Sorry for what?” you ask, not quite sure why she was apologizing.
“For all of this,” she says while waving a BZK towelette in her hand, “Land sailing was my idea and it’s because of this that the one I love got hurt.”
“You…you love me?” you asked in a shocked tone.
Your relationship with Chelsea has only been for a few months with no one saying the “l” word before. That is, until now.
She stops wiping your arm with the towelette for a moment, looks into your eyes with the sincerest expression and one hand on your cheek, and replies, “Of course I do,” before leaning in for a brief kiss.
Once the kiss is broken, you respond, “I love you too.”
The goofiest of smiles spread across both of your faces knowing that you have a person you love immensely that feels the same as you do.
“I just need to bandage you up, and you should be good,” Chelsea states while wrapping part of your arm in gauze and using medical tape to keep it from moving.
“Thanks, honey,” you respond before heading off to quickly join the rest of the crew.
Chelsea quickly caught up to you after cleaning up her makeshift workstation and returning the first aid kit and grabbed your hand. From that point on, she did not leave your side the entire night. Her concern and wanting to provide comfort after what happened to you warmed your heart, and who wouldn’t want to cuddle with the love of your life? And somehow you fell more in love with her from that moment on.

Silence hung over you both for a few seconds, before his walkie went off. You both jumped and you let out a yelp. “This is for scaring me…” Chelsea came through. You let out a small laugh.
“You just scared the shit out of me.” He responded to his sister. You could just tell she had a smile on her face. You laughed a bit, trying to hold it back so as to not be too loud. He looked over to where you were. The flashlight illuminated your face as you grinned and bit back laughter. It made a small smile etch onto his face. “Oh, you think this is funny?” he asked you after his sister finished speaking. You muffled your laughs and covered your mouth before shaking your head no. “No, of course not.” your voice strained to keep from letting out a laugh.
“You’re cruel, you know. You got scared too, do you see me laughing?” he asked with a raised eyebrow. You shook your head with a small smile. “Exactly now, stop laughing at me,” he instructed playfully. He knew damn well that your laugh brought him back and made him forget for a split second that he was in the basement of a haunted abandoned building somewhere in Virginia.
“You know you love me,” you said before leaning over to kiss his temple. “Sadly, you are correct.” he jokingly said.
--
Some time had passed and Dakota and you were lying down in silence. Nothing else had happened so far and it calmed your mind in the very slightest. Your fingers interlocked with his and you could hear his breathing. It was about enough to make you fall asleep when all of a sudden a loud crash happened and you bolted upright.
“What in the fuck?!” you exclaimed. Dakota flashed his light around the area hurriedly.
Little did you know that Chelsea had heard the same thing that you guys did.
You decided to go ahead and ask seeing as the noise was extremely loud and it could’ve been heard by her too.
“Did you hear that? It was like the really loud metallic noise.” Dakota described what you heard.
“Yeah. Dude, I fricking heard that” She responded sounding just as freaked out as you were.
“I’m having a panic attack. I am so scared down here.” your boyfriend reveals. You rub his back in a comforting motion. “I am so scared,” he spoke once again, making you cringe at the fear in his voice. Your brave Dakota being so scared, it hurt you seeing him this way.
“Yeah, I don’t think I’m sleeping,” she said.
“I don’t think we will be either.” you sighed.
“Honestly, I don't know how we’re going to do the rest of this night,” you said.
--
The rest of the night was just silence and it wasn’t comforting at all, the only reason you weren’t breaking down was because Dakota was with you. If he hadn’t been there you would’ve been a complete mess.
The sun was coming up and it was finally time to leave the building.
You looked at your boyfriend and smile widely. You grabbed his hand and pulled him off of the floor and off to the side. He looked at you in confusion, “What are you doing?” he asked curiously.
“We made it through the night. You did it babe.” you smile brightly at him. A big smile came across his lips and he chuckled. “Yeah, we did it. I did it.” he breaths out, relief and joy in his voice were crystal clear and it made your heart skip. You reached out and wrapped your arms around him holding him as closely as possible. He did the same to you and he all of a sudden felt tears on his shirt. He pulled back a little bit and looks down at you.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” he asked you and placed his hands on your face. You looked up at him and let out a small broken laugh.
His eyes filled with confusion, “I’m so proud of you. You did it, and I know you’re exhausted but look at you. You did it. You did that. I am so proud of you Dakota.” your voice broke. “It wasn’t just me babe. We did it,” he said and pulled you in close again.
“I love you, Dakota,” you said and he looked down at you, your head was buried in his chest and he kissed your head. You looked up at him with a watery smile you let out a giggle and he leaned down to press his forehead against yours.
He placed his hands on your hips and you moved yours to his cheeks gently. He leaned down and pressed his lips against yours. It was short and sweet and so he went to pull away but you kept him in place and pulled him back down to kiss him again. He brought his hands up and slightly made your shirt ride up his touch made you sigh and relax against him. He smiled against your lips and felt your hands move to drag through his hair. Your lips moved in sync and soon enough you were as close as possible. His tongue dragged lazily along your bottom lip and he felt your lips part sighed into your mouth when he felt your tongue tentatively touch his. He took a chance to let his tongue explore your mouth. The taste of the gum you always chewed lingered in your mouth and it made your heart race knowing he wanted to be this close to you right now. You and he were sharing one breath, and it was like a current of electricity shot through you every time his hold got more firm. You could feel that sense of relief and comfort knowing that you were both there and you were both ok. You pulled away slowly, your breathing was just as heavy as his was, and he opened his eyes to meet your (e/c) eyes. You let out an airy giggle and he did too. “Well, that was unexpected,” he said and you nodded with a big smile.
“Yeah it was, wasn’t it?” you said and you pulled away from him a bit. You stepped away and chuckled. “It was well deserved though,” you said and smiled at him.
“I’ve been dying to do that for days.” his lip quirked into a smirk. “Oh have you?” you questioned playfully with a quirked brow. “I have,” he said and walked closer to you. He stood right in front of you now. “Well there are many things I’ve been dying to do, but you know RV’s aren’t the best settings for the things I want.” you winked and turned to gather your things. He looked at you with wide eyes and crimson cheeks. “Damn it… she’s gonna kill me I swear,” he mumbled to himself before following after you.
“Let’s get out of here babe, I know you’re tired,” you said with a genuine sympathetic smile. “In all seriousness Dakota, I’m here for you, I’m here to take care of you whenever you need me. I know it has been a rough time, and things aren’t going to settle down in your mind for a while but I’m here through all of it. I’ll take care of you I promise.” you spoke with the utmost sincerity. He looked at you with love-filled eyes. He walked over and kissed your head softly. “You know I’m going to do the same to you. I love you (y/n),” he spoke softly.
--
You and your boyfriend quickly went and gathered your things before heading back up the stairs and meeting with everyone else. You bid everyone a good morning and you all packed away your equipment and headed for the door.
Once the door was opened the sunlight came streaming in and you took in the fresh air. Finally, you were able to leave the place that had affected you all, especially Dakota so badly. You were so proud of everyone for overcoming that fear, but you knew for damn sure you never wanted to see that building again.
All of you sat your things down on the ground and took seats on the steps. You sat one step above Dakota letting your fingers run through his hair comfortingly. He smiled up at you and took your hand and placed a kiss on it.
“That was crazy,” Chelsea stated and you vigorously nodded in agreement. “Yeah that was pretty insane you guys.” you jumped in.
“I’m honestly glad we went back, but I am really glad we never have to come back,” Tanner said.
Chelsea turned her camera and attention toward her brother.
“You had a really rough night.” she pointed out.
“I know,” he responded.
“Yeah. You had a horrible night.” Tanner once again stated the facts.
“I couldn’t sleep. I showed fear. I showed a lot of fear, and I shouldn’t have. That’s like the rule number one and I totally broke it.” he sounded disappointed in himself, but you were so proud he got through it.
“We did it though you guys. You faced your fear Kota, and look where you are now. You completed the night and I am so proud of you. Of all of us.” you said and smiled at them all.
“Me too, and you told me before, that I used to scare you, like, when you weren’t scared. You had that effect on me tonight.” Chelsea described to her brother what she felt.
“I was scaring you?” Dakota asked.
“Like, you scared me. Like I…” she cut herself off. “You freaked me out,” she stated.
You looked down at your boyfriend and continued to run your fingers through his hair knowing that it was a comfort to him just knowing you were there.
“Well, I think we should never come back here again. Cause it fucking sucked.” you blatantly stated and earned a laugh from the people around you which brought a smile to your face.
“I will second that.” Tanner said, “I agree.” Chelsea nodded with a smile.
--
“So tonight was one of the worst nights I have had so far on this road trip, and just by far in my life. I have seen my friends and my boyfriend scared before but seeing them like this was incredibly difficult. Dakota was hit so hard last night in the bowling alley, it hurt to see him like that, I’ve never seen him that scared before. I don’t ever want to see him that scared again, I don’t want to see any of them as scared as they were last night. I’m just so proud of us for pulling through. I’ll have to make sure to keep a close eye on Dakota right now because I know he isn’t feeling like himself. Hopefully, a little tender love and care will help patch him up a bit.
I’m just glad we never have to go back.”
--
You finished your ending monologue and walked over to put your camera away.
The RV pulled around the corner and you gathered your gear to put away after you had filmed your solo shots.
Suddenly you felt arms wrap around you from behind and a kiss being placed on your shoulder.
“Hello, my love. How are you feeling right now?” you ask and turn to face him. He looks at you with tired eyes and a sleepy grin. He looked so drained and it upset you to see him this way.
“I’ll be ok. Just not feeling great right now. How are you?” he asked.
“Well, I’m doing alright, I’d be even better if you’d get some rest and let me take care of you until you feel a bit better though,” you said and reached up to move the strand of fallen hair that dangled above his eyebrow.
He smiled shyly, “I think I can manage that.” he said and kissed you before dragging you into the RV. you smiled as he sat down and pulled you into his lap letting his face rest in the crook of your neck so he could place a small kiss on your soft skin. You sighed in content and leaned into him. “Shouldn’t I be the one holding you?” you ask jokingly. “I want to hold you so hush and let it happen,” he mumbled against your skin.
“Whatever am I to do with you Laden?” you asked with a smile. “Love me,” he whispered and held you tighter. “Now that is something I am lucky enough to do.”

Tumblr media
(not my pic!)
It had only been a couple of days since your first location of the road trip and you were already exhausted. You could tell that everyone else was as well, and it made you chuckle a bit.
They all looked at you with confusion as you let out a small laugh. Your boyfriend Tanner looked down at you sitting next to him with his brows drawn together in confusion.
“What are you laughing about weirdo?” he asked. “I just think it’s funny how exhausted we are after one location. I always forget how much energy it takes out of you on these road trips,” you explained.
They all nodded in agreement, and Tanner wrapped his arm around you to hold you tighter to him and you sighed in content while relaxing in his hold.
“Yeah, I forget how depleting these road trips are. Even right off the bat, it’s like one of these locations can just suck the energy right out of you.” Chelsea said.
“Yeah.” Dakota agreed. “We have so much road trip left,” she spoke again.
“I’m tired. I’m like seriously so tired.” Dakota expressed his own exhaustion.
“That was a long night,” Alex added. “Yeah honestly, it was a huge location.” you agreed with him.
You looked to Dakota as he spoke up again. “That was a really massive location that took a lot out of us, and this next one is equally as big.” you let out a sigh as you rolled your eyes and let your head lull back in exasperation. Tanner chuckled at you before asking a question. “Where are we going now?”
“Right now, we’re headed to a place called Jailhouse Pizza,” Dakota confirmed your next destination. Your eyes lit up and you gasped.
“Pizza?!” you exclaimed. You looked up at your boyfriend in excitement with a wide grin and he laughed before leaning down to press a kiss on your forehead.
“I love pizza!” Chelsea beamed at her brother. She reached over the table to high-five him as he expressed his excitement as well.
“Good call.” she praised.
“Seriously, I’m stoked right now.” you professed your elation.
“It actually used to be a jail and then it was abandoned. And they came in and renovated it into a pizza place.” Dakota revealed.
“Pizza in a jail?” Alex asked. “Uh-huh,” Dakota confirmed. “Is it haunted?” he asked the question that you were sure most of you were wondering, or at least you were.
“It is haunted.” Dakota once again confirmed.
You let out another sigh, one of the many you would let out throughout the road trip.
“For once can we go to a place that isn’t haunted? Like damn Dakota.” you expressed and he laughed. “I guess keep your guard up while you’re taking a bite.” he shrugged.
You flipped him off and everyone chuckled.
“I hate you sometimes Kota, I swear,” you complained a bit and he just tossed you a Cheshire grin.
You huffed and curled in on yourself so you could fit next to your boyfriend and leave some more space on the couch for Alex.
“It better be some damn good Pizza,” you grumbled and Tanner chuckled.
---
You pulled up to the place and piled out of the RV. One of Tanner’s beanies sat atop your head and a need for food filled your stomach.
He grabbed your hand and interlocked his fingers with yours and squeezed slightly. You squeezed his hand back and he brought it up to his lips to place a kiss on your knuckles. It made you smile brightly at the small yet incredibly sweet gesture of affection.
“If a Pizza place prisoner ghost gets me. Promise to find love again,” you said to your boyfriend and it made him laugh. He pulled you to a halt before grabbing your waist and leaning down to kiss you sweetly, his nose was cold as it bumped yours but his lips were warm. He pulled away. “I make no promises.” he joked and tugged you toward the entrance where your friends waited.
Tanner held the door open for everyone before walking in behind you so he could wrap one arm around your waist and hold the camera with the other one.
“Let’s check this out,” Dakota said and you all walked around the place, acting silly.
Dakota closed one of the cell doors and you could hear Tanner whine and it made you giggle.
“That’s not very nice dude.” your boyfriend whines as he’s let out. “This would be foreshadowing, I don’t know,” Dakota said and you looked at him with a confused glare.
You all decided it was time to sit down and order, you entered your “jail cell” and looked through the menus. You were seated between Tanner and Chelsea, as you looked through the options.
“What do you guys even like on your pizza?” Dakota asked everyone in curiosity.
“I’m a cheese gal,” Chelsea revealed and you looked at her and chuckled. “Same as her,” you told them.
“Just the cheese?” Alex questioned incredulously.
“Yeah, guys,” you said and chuckled. “That’s so boring,” Alex exclaimed. “I know,” Chelsea said.
You just rolled your eyes and let out a laugh.
“They have a pizza called the Electric Chair. It says “Warning, eat at your own risk,” pepperoni sausage, jalapeno peppers, hot sauce, and it says “Caution, very hot.” “ Dakota described the pizza to you all.
“I’m going to order that,” he stated. You laughed. “You boys are not gonna handle it very well I swear.” you joked and they looked at you in offense.
---
The pizza arrives and your eyes light up, “You guys! Look at this! I have never been more ready to eat a pizza in my entire life!” you blurted in excitement. They all laugh before reaching to grab their pieces. “Time to try the hottest pizza in the state,” Dakota announced.
The boys took their first bites and their eyes widened at the heat of it. Tanner fanned his mouth and Alex stuck out his tongue and whined. You looked at Dakota and saw him rubbing his eyes. “I’m actually crying,” he said and you grinned. “I told you boys.” you nagged and Chelsea laughed. “Well, let’s see you try it then!” Alex challenged. You brought the pizza up to your mouth and took a bite, you could feel the heat but it wasn’t nearly as bad as they made it out to be. Your assumption was correct, they just couldn’t handle it. It wasn’t really bad, honestly, it tasted really good. They all looked at you as you calmly took another bite and chewed happily. “What the hell is wrong with you?” Your boyfriend asked. “It’s honestly not that hot, you guys are obviously just babies,” you said with a shrug and a smile. Chels took a bite and looked at you with no sense of discomfort just like your reaction had been. You raised your hand and gave her a high-five. She chuckled as you all continued to eat.
Dakota set down his drink and spoke. “Do you guys want a hint about the main haunted location we’re going to tomorrow night?”
His question made you nod your head with fervor.
“Sure,” Tanner answered.
“There were people at this location who literally spent over two decades in total darkness,” he said. “What?” your boyfriend questioned in shock. Your eyes widened and you reached to grab Tanner’s hand, he held it in reassurance. “Two decades?” Chelsea inquired.
Dakota hummed in confirmation. “So much so that they went blind. By the time they went out, they couldn’t see anymore.” He explained. “That’s horrible Dakota. What the hell?” you said.
“That is messed up,” Alex added.
“I can’t imagine being stuck in darkness enough for you to go blind. I don’t even know like a type of place that would do that to a person.” Tanner spoke.
“I got nothing,” Chelsea said.
“I honestly have no clue…” you said softly.
Tanner looked down at you and let go of your hand to wrap his arm around your shoulder knowing that you were afraid of the dark. It was always a hard part of being on the road trip, being in the dark for hours on end really freaked you out.
He leaned down and pressed a kiss on your hair before whispering. “You’ll be ok babe, I’ll be there I promise.” you nodded and leaned into him a bit more.
---
You all got back into the RV and took a seat. You sat next to Tanner at the table your back was against the wall and your legs were draped over his. He let his hand rest on your thigh drawing comforting nonsensical patterns. He could tell you were even more nervous about the location because of the information Dakota had disclosed earlier.
The hours leading up to the packet read weren’t very easy for you. All of it was stressing you out more so than usual. You hated the dark and you had a feeling that Dakota was going to have one of his stupid ideas and center it around that. It gave you anxiety like you couldn’t believe. The only thing keeping you grounded was Tanner being close to you and giving you as much comfort as he could.
You pulled off of the road and you knew it was time to get out and read the packet. It was time to figure out where you were going next, and honestly, you weren’t ready to know. You Tanner, and Chels sat across from Dakota with the packet in his hands. You were tense and Tanner could tell  so he pulled you closer to him to try and help you relax a bit. He rubbed his hand up and down your back in soothing motions helping to release some of the tension that had been building all day. “Alright. Are you guys ready to find out where we’re going? Dakota exhaled the question. “I mean I’m definitely nervous.” Your boyfriend answered. “I am definitely not ready for this.” you exhaled heavily. Chelsea reached over and gave your hand a reassuring squeeze. “There’s an experiment that I do have in mind for this location, something that we’ve never done before,” he said and your heart dropped. You knew he had something up his sleeve, he always did. “Those never end well.” you rolled your eyes at him. “Hey! They aren’t that bad.” he protested. Chelsea raised an eyebrow at her brother.“Fine ok, they’re horrible but they’re effective,” he said. “Now let’s just say this is going to be a night we’ll probably never forget. So you guys wanna open the packet?” he questioned. He passed the packet forward toward Tanner and he took it from him. You watched as he slowly revealed the location you were going to stay in the next night. “The Missouri State penitentiary!” you all exclaimed. You internally cringed not wanting to hear anything about it as Tanner began to read the packet. “Once infamously labeled ‘the bloodiest 47 acres in America,’ the Missouri State Penitentiary now sits vacant stoically decaying along the Missouri River. In operation for 168 years. The prison held some of America’s most notorious criminals, including Robert pretty boy Floyd, anarchist Emma Goldman, and even murderer James Earl Ray. It was from this prison that James Earl Ray escaped and assassinated Martin Luther King Jr.” Tanner finished. You sighed heavily and Chelsea took the packet next and begun to read. “The violence of this penitentiary was legendary and nearly 2,000 people died on-site.” She handed the packet over to you and you sighed before starting to read. “One inmate firebug johnson was kept in the dungeon cells of housing unit 4 for 17 years after he started a fire that killed four fellow inmates.” you stopped and looked up from the page in disbelief.  “Can you imagine being locked in a dungeon isolation cell for 17 years?” Dakota asked. You could’ve cried, it was almost like you could feel yourself locked away in pure darkness completely alone. You were terrified to go to this location. “With no light, of course, you’re going to go absolutely crazy,” Tanner said. “I have never heard that at any penitentiary before,” Chelsea added. “And it gets worse. Trust me.” Dakota said. Your muscles became tense once again and Tanner noticed that this wasn’t going to be good for you at all. He was honestly scared for you, he knew you were strong but you needed him to be there for you more than ever and he would be.  “Forty death row inmates were executed here, most in the gas chambers that are still on the grounds today.” Chelsea read. “Gas chambers!” you exclaimed“I didn’t know that was a thing in the U.S.” Alex revealed. “No,” said Dakota. “I really didn’t,” Alex said. “That is disgusting,” Tanner stated. You grabbed the packet that chels handed over to you. “In 1953, the prison had the notorious distinction of executing a woman, Bonnie B. Heady. Putting her and her partner, Carl Hall to death at the same time. They had kidnapped 6-year old Bobby Greenlease the son of a multi-millionaire auto dealer and demanded 600,000 dollar ransom for his safe return.” you finished. You were disgusted completely by these people. “Why write a ransom if you’ve already killed the son?” Chelsea asked. “You know it’s hard to feel bad for those types of people when they do something so horrific like that,” Tanner said and you nodded. Continuing on you read, “It’s said that Bonnie’s soul is still contained inside the gas chambers to this day.” you finished with a slight tremble of fear in your voice. Tanner kissed your temple before squeezing you tightly. Dakota takes the packet and furthers into the hauntings. “Haunted accounts.” he starts. “The prison has immense paranormal activity, and many claim it was haunted even while it was still in operation. Since it closed in 2004, the activity has increased tenfold,” he said. They all noticed how uncomfortable you looked. They had no idea why it was affecting you so badly this time because it never did this much damage to you before. They were worried. “You ok (y/n)?” Alex asked the question everyone had on their mind. “Oh, um yeah. It’s all just incredibly disturbing you know. It’s just hard to think about.” you explained to them. Not wanting them to know what the exact truth was. “You sure?” Tanner asked and moved a stray hair out of your face gently as you looked up at him. “I promise,” you assured. You let Dakota continue. “The most active areas include Housing Unit 1. People report seeing full apparitions of female prisoners walking into cells. Intense class A EVP’s have also been captured. Including one that said ‘somebody cut me apart’. Your eyes widened in surprise. “What?” you asked in fear. “Alright, Tanner,” Dakota said and passed the packet back to his friend. “The gas chambers, a woman’s voice can be heard softly speaking. Many believe it’s Bonnie Heady. She’s been heard whispering ‘love’ to those who enter.” he read. “Who else would it be?” Dakota queried. “And she was executed with her boyfriend, so it’s almost like she’s talking to her boyfriend or searching out for him,” Tanner explained his thoughts.Chels took the packet next. “The dungeon Cells!” she exclaimed. “Yep” her brother confirmed. “Otherwise known as solitary confinement, located in Housing Unit 4, people report having their hair tugged, their ankles grabbed, and being viciously scratched. Menacing entity resides here appearing with half a face next to visitors and transferring his distress and pain onto them until they are so overwhelmed they flee the area.” she continued. “What the fuck Dakota?” you sighed heavily and shook your head. “I know, it’s insane,” he said. Chelsea hands the packet to you and you take a deep breath before reading. “3d Punishment Cells. These are the basement solitary confinement cells for Housing Unit 3, and many people refuse to be down here alone. The energy is very unsettling and violent.” you read. “Ok screw that,” Tanner interjects. You nod aggressively in agreement with your boyfriend. “There is also an 8-foot tall shadow figure sometimes the figure becomes a full apparition that opens its mouth and silently screams until they leave.” you read in disbelief. Your heart starts racing at the thought of being alone down there completely in the dark. You grab Tanner’s hand and interlace your fingers to try and find some sort of comfort. He rubs his thumb on the back of your hand in soothing figure eights. “Yeah,” Dakota said. “Are you kidding me?” Tanner said incredulously. “That’s just creepy,” Dakota spoke up. You glare at him. “That’s out of a damn nightmare Dakota!” you practically shout. They all look at you in surprise at your tone of voice. Dakota could tell you were especially uneasy and began to feel a bit bad, but it had to be done. He didn’t know you were going to react this way, he couldn’t do anything about it now. Tanner squeezed your hand in an attempt to calm you down. He knew you were scared and it hurt him to see you this way, you’d never reacted this way before. You looked up at him with a glint of fear in your eyes and he tugged you closer so you could lean against him. You sighed and shook your head before going completely quiet. Everyone tried to shake off your little outburst and Chelsea spoke up to ease some tension and get the attention away from you, she could tell you felt bad and wanted to make your feelings lessen. “Dakota, you don’t have the best track record with prisons.” She said to her younger brother. “No, I don’t. I do not like prisons. They scare me more than any other location. And this one could get the best of us.” He said. “This is going to be difficult,” Tanner stated. Everyone nodded in agreement. “Well, you guys it’s time to wrap this up and get some rest for tomorrow because God knows we’re gonna need it,” Dakota spoke before rising from his seat to get ready to head back to the RV. As everyone headed back you kinda hung back, your mind was racing and you knew for a fact that you would get absolutely no sleep that night. You had no idea you had stopped walking until you felt a hand on your cheek. Your eyes snapped up to see Tanner standing in front of you with worry clouding his eyes.  “Babe, I know you’re not ok. I know you’re scared, but we’ll be ok.” he tried to reassure you. You shook your head. “Tanner I don’t know if I can do this one. I really don’t know if I can,” you spoke up and placed your hand around his wrist. “I know it’s scary, but what else has you so worked up about this location?” he asked gently. Your eyes teared up and you sighed shakily. “It’s so dark. I know that it’s always dark and I know that you know I hate the dark, but something about this one is too much for me.” you began to explain to your boyfriend. He nodded his head in understanding letting you know he was listening to you. “People were locked in the dark for 17 years. They were locked in the dark until they completely lost their sight until everything in their lives went totally black. The history is so horrible and the hauntings are worse. An eight-foot-tall shadow figure, Tanner, I don’t think I can do this one. I don’t want to end up alone with that thing, and Dakota’s experiment. Fuck, those are never good, and especially at this location, I’m sure it’ll be even worse. I’m not ready for this Tanner.” you were crying now. Tears ran down your cheeks and your boyfriend wiped them away. His eyes held sympathy and worry, they also held understanding and love. “Oh, babe, I’m so sorry. I know it seems horrible, and it is honestly. I know how much the dark scares you, I know all of this information is hard to hear and horrifying to take in, but I promise that everything will be ok. I know you don’t feel ready for this, I know you don’t think you can handle it, but I know how strong you are. I know how brave you are, and look how far you’ve come, you have overcome so many of the things that you fear, and I know you haven’t conquered the dark yet but you will. Even if you don’t I’ll be right there next to you in it. You won’t be alone I swear. As for Dak’s experiment, I’m sure that it will be ok. I know it’s scary not knowing what will happen, but I promise I won’t let you go through more than you can handle. You’ll be ok.” he said and brought you into his arms. You let out small cries as you held tightly to him not wanting to let him go. He cradled your head to his chest and whispered words of encouragement. You pulled away from him just a bit so you could look up at him. Your eyes were puffy and red and mascara had stained your cheeks. “I love you Tanner.” your voice broke. He leaned down and pressed his lips against yours in a sweet kiss. You pressed up on your toes a bit and wrapped your arms around his neck while his arms weaved around your waist. He pulled away first and your feet landed flat on the ground again and your cheeks were flooded with heat as he lovingly looked down at you. “I love you too,” he said and kissed your head. “Now how about we go try and get some rest before tomorrow. I’ll protect you I promise, let’s go get some sleep,” he said and grasped your smaller hand in his to pull you toward the RV. you held his hand tighter and followed along.

Broken Home (sad song based)- Tanner Wiseman x Reader
word count:2581
warnings: toxicity within the family/family problems minor mentions of cheating, and parent threatening to walk out. Language, angst, light fluff. I believe that's everything. If not please please please let me know.
Summary: Based on the song Broken Home by 5sos. all credit to them, and if things are bad, you're not alone and I love you very much.
Tanner knew you had problems with your family. You would call him crying while you hid in your room from all of the screaming and fighting. He would watch you absolutely crumble when he drove you home. He could tell that you were scared, and so desperately wanted to stay with you though he knew he couldn’t. He just wanted to go in there and tell them what they were doing to you, and beg them to see what they were doing to their family.
“Tanner, I’m so sorry for calling right now. Um- I know you’re with the guys but- you know what, never mind. Just have fun ok, and don’t let this keep you in your head. Tell the boys I said Hi ok. I love you, bye,” the voicemail ended and he didn’t notice it until after he had gotten home. He felt horrible about not getting it sooner. He knew that you only wanted the best for him and you just wanted him to be happy and live his life without having to help you survive yours.
Immediately he walked out of his house and got in the car to drive over to your house. He knew he had to park a few houses away so your parents wouldn’t see him. He ran to your window and tapped on it lightly.
You sat there with your head in your hands, trying to block it all out but it hurt too bad. The words they would say, and the threats that were tossed around wormed their way into your ears. Through the noise, you heard a light tapping at your window and looked up at it. You walked over to it and opened it softly as he snuck in. Tanner immediately wrapped his arms around you, “I didn’t hear your call until I got home, I’m so sorry babe,” he said and kissed your head. You just held onto him tightly. He looked over at her bed and saw her journals open, he knew what they were filled with. They were filled with lyrics and dreams and hopes to make it out of this place alive.
He could tell that you had been writing, but he could see that there were torn pages and it made his heart sink.
“I’m sorry you had to come over,” he heard you cry softly. Before he could say anything your mom screamed, “Maybe, I’ll just walk out then. I’ll leave and you won’t ever have to think of or see me again!” you held him tighter as he cringed at her words. “You know what, I think that would be fucking lovely!” your dad yelled back. You wanted to just crawl into a hole and die. You wanted it to stop, You wanted the good memories to come back. You wanted all the shattered picture frames from a happier family to mend. But you knew you wouldn’t get that.
Tanner picked you up placed you on the bed and sat right next to you. He moved all of your books and pulled the covers down so you could crawl into your bed. He lied right next to you and just held you.
“It’ll never end, I swear it won’t.” you cried to him. He looked down at you and kissed your head softly.
“You’ll get out of here, I’ll get you out of here I promise you,” he said.
---
It was a few weeks later and you had just walked in from school when your mother stopped you. You let out a sigh before turning to face her. “Hi mom,” you said softly. “You know, I’m getting really sick of your father. He’s a dick, he’s selfish, he’s gross, and I swear to god he’s cheating on me. I swear.” she said ad grabbed your arm before pulling you into the living room with her to sit down.
“Mom, I really don’t think he’s cheating on you. He wouldn’t do that. Please don’t start with these things they never make it better mama.” you said as you sat across from her with your hands in your lap, but your eyes were practically begging her.
“Now you think I’m crazy, all of you think I’m fucking insane right?! Just like your dad, he thinks I’m insane too, so does your sister. She’s selfish too just like her dad!” she shouts at you.
“Mom, I never said you were crazy, I don’t think you’re insane. Mama please, I don’t know exactly what’s going on, but you have to know that (y/s/n) loves you, please just try and work it out. Don’t scream or yell, just talk. For me, please let’s be a family again.” you begged her. She looked at you and huffed. “You know it’s a hard thing to do when you hate someone, and you know your own daughter hates you too. Who wants to stay in a family like that?” She asked bitterly.
You felt your soul smash on the floor at her words.
Suddenly the door bursts open and in comes your dad and sister. You bit your lip and cringed, you knew it was going to get ugly and you could see no way out of it this time.
“What are you talking about?” your dad asked but your mom just ignored him. Your sister walked over to hug you and you reciprocated before she went to do the same to your mom but got nothing in return.
“What’s wrong mom?” she asked with a sigh. “Nothing is wrong,” she stated coldly. Your dad looked over at her with a glare. “There’s obviously something wrong if you won’t even hug your own daughter, what the hell is up with that shit?” he asked before dropping his stuff on the floor.
“Maybe, I’m just sick of her shit, and yours! You’re selfish and rude. And you know what whenever there is a dispute between me and her,” she points at your sister. “You take her side! You’ve never taken my side once, you’ve never backed me up. I’m always the bad guy, I’m always made out to be the evil bitch while you’re the hero, and I can’t stand that shit anymore!” she yelled at him.
You jumped at her tone and quietly got up from your seat.
“He hasn’t done anything wrong, mom! What the fuck are you talking about. He’s not selfish, and neither am I!” your sister yelled.
“Oh, don’t you get into this!” your mother yelled.
You tried to quietly slip away as the yelling continued. “Come back here, (y/n), we aren’t even fighting I don’t know why you walk away like that it’s so rude!” your mother exclaims.
“Just let her go, mom, she doesn’t need to be involved in this. You always drag her into it like she could ever understand!” your sister yelled. Quickly you grabbed your things and ran to your room. Locking the door behind you.
“Who fucking cares who’s right or wrong. All the pain and blame are still there.” you cried.
---
You were hanging out with Tanner, and your parents weren’t home so it was going super well. Although recently they had just begun to ignore you completely, while you tried to make it known that you were still there and dying for your family to get fixed and find its love again.
“Babe,” you heard your boyfriend call trying to get your attention. “Huh, oh sorry I was spacing out,” you said with a laugh. “No, you’re fine, what’s going on up there?” he asked and gently tapped your temple. You chuckled and looked over at him with a smile, “Not much, just thinking about everything you just said. I’m really proud of you and the boys,” you said and turned to face him on the bed. He had just told you that they were planning on moving to Vegas finally getting an opportunity to do what they loved. You were horrified that he would be leaving you but you were so proud that he was getting out on his own to see the world.
“You do know that at some point when we can, I want to come and get you right?” he asked. Your eyes widened, “What?” you questioned incredulously. “Yeah, you think I would just leave you out here forever. I would never do that to you. I love you,” he said and leaned in to kiss you. You held his cheek softly and smiled against his lips. “I love you too Tanner,” you said
---
Tanner had moved to Vegas a few weeks ago and things had gotten progressively worse.
They would start screaming at each other and your mom would kick your sister out. You would try to stop her but she’d pay you no mind. You’d try to stop your mom and dad from fighting but all you got were angry glares and “fuck offs”
You were screaming and crying to make it stop but no one heard you or cared.
You would hope and pray, but all you were was a ghost in the halls of a vacant house. It wasn’t even home anymore it was a house. A barren, rampaged, warzone, and you were alone in the middle of it all.
Every single time they fought, it would add one more wound you couldn’t heal. It would add more scars that would never fade away. You were raised to be the pain that they caused, and it was killing you. They didn’t notice or care that they were shattering your hopes and dreams. They didn’t care that you wanted to live, instead of decay and fade away in your broken home.
All you knew was that there was a life, there was love like a light, and it was far beyond faded out.
---
You were on the phone with Tanner late at night and you needed him so badly. He was a thousand miles away and you felt like you were just being crushed.
“Babe, I know it’s hard to hear, but you’ve to let it go. Your hope is fading away your losing it and I can’t stand to see that,” he told you with sincerity. You cried, “Tanner, I have absolutely nothing left to hold onto, I’m lost and locked outside in the cold. All of these memories and this pain have scrubbed away any semblance of a loving family I used to have. And, I’m stuck. I am trapped in between every single one of my dreams that have been lost, and a complete nightmare. I’m stuck Tanner, and I have no way out.” you cried to him.
“You don’t have to be stuck anymore. I swear. I don’t care, pack a bag I’m coming to get you. I’ll be there as soon as I can and I’m taking you out of that place.” he told you, “what?” you asked in bewilderment. “Pack your stuff babe, I’m gonna be on the first flight out. I’ll see you tomorrow, be ready, I love you (y/n),” he said. You let your tears fall. “I love you, Tanner, I love you so much,” he hung up the phone and you instantly got up to start packing. You had the biggest smile on your face, you were going to leave. You got to leave, and you didn’t feel guilty because you knew your sister was leaving too.
You packed everything you could and now all you had to do was stick it out for one more night. Then you’d finally get to live.”
---
Tanner had gotten you the next day, and your parents barely lifted a finger, they didn’t care that you were leaving. It did hurt, but then again you were finally free, despite the trauma and damage you had to work through.
When you got to Vegas you obviously had to stay with the boys until you could get on your feet. You had a job back home but it wasn’t enough to have your own place yet. Once you had gotten things together you got your own apartment and were trying to get your name out there.
Getting into the music industry was hard and it took quite some time to even get the semblance of a start but you did it. And you had an album coming out, with a very special song that you decided to share with the world so that others would know that they weren’t alone.
“Babe, can you look at this for me?” you called your boyfriend. “Yeah of course, what’s up?” he asked
“It’s a very special song I wrote and I wanted you to be the first to read it,” you told him. He looked up at you with bright eyes, “Really?” he asked, “why me?”. “Well because you helped me through it, so here you go. I hope you like it, here’s, ‘Broken Home’,” you told him and handed the journal over.
“They would yell, they would scream, they were fighting it out
She would hope, she would pray, she was waiting it out
Holding onto a dream
While she watches these walls fall down
Sharp words like knives, they were cutting her down
Shattered glass like the past, it’s a memory now
Holding onto a dream
While she watches these walls fall down
Hey, mom, hey, dad
When did this end?
When did you lose your happiness?
I'm here alone inside of this broken home
Who’s right? Who’s wrong?
Who really cares?
The fault, the blame, the pain’s still there
I'm here alone inside of this broken home, this broken home
Wrote it down on the walls, she was screaming it out
Made it clear she’s still here, are you listening now?
Just a ghost in the halls
Feeling empty, they’re vacant now
All the battles, all the wars, all the times that you’ve fought
She’s a scar, she’s the bruises, she’s the pain that you brought
There was life, there was love
Like a light and it’s fading out
Hey, mom, hey, dad
When did this end?
When did you lose your happiness?
I'm here alone inside of this broken home
Who’s right? Who’s wrong?
Who really cares?
The fault, the blame, the pain’s still there
I'm here alone inside of this broken home, this broken home
You've gotta let it go
You’re losing all your hope
Nothing left to hold
Locked out in the cold
Your pain and memories
They washed out all the scenes
I'm stuck in between
A nightmare and lost dreams
Hey, mom, hey, dad
When did this end?
When did you lose your happiness?
I'm here alone inside of this broken home
Hey, mom, hey, dad
When did this end?
When did you lose your happiness?
I'm here alone inside of this broken home
Who’s right? Who’s wrong?
Who really cares?
The fault, the blame, the pain’s still there
I'm here alone inside of this broken home
This broken home”
He finished reading it and had tears in his eyes. He looked at you and pulled you into a hug.
“I’m so proud of you.”
---
A few years down the line you and he got married and started a family. You made sure that you raised your kids in the best way you could. They were loved, they were heard, they were seen. Tanner and you worked things out civilly, and not in front of them. You loved each other and that was all you could ask for.

(pic not mine!)
You had just finished the packet read for St. Albans and you had a heavy feeling on your chest. Worry swam through you at the thought of them going back to that place. Everything that had happened there that you read made your stomach turn, and knowing the history they had with the location made you all the more worried. Chelsea had to leave the building after being charged in the old bowling alley. They didn’t make it through the night last time, and it made you unsettled that the place may remember them. It may remember Dakota.
Everyone else piled back into the RV but you fell behind a bit. Dakota turned around to see you standing there with eyebrows furrowed and lost in thought.
“Babe?” You heard him call, and it broke you out of your trance-like state. “Huh?” you questioned as your eyes met his quickly. “We’re getting ready to leave, are you alright?” he asked before closing the door and walking towards you. You met him halfway and wrapped your arms around him resting your head on his chest. He wrapped his arms around you as well and kissed your head. “I don’t like you going back there Dakota.” your voice was slightly muffled against his jacket. He squeezed you a bit tighter. “It’ll be ok (y/n), I’ll be ok.” he tried to reassure you. You sighed before nodding, not wanting to keep the rest of the team waiting. “Ok, Kota. Let’s go.” you pulled away from him and turned to walk away. He reached out and grabbed your wrist bringing you back to him. You let out a little yelp at the sudden movement and you’re now facing him once again. He looked at you seriously and put his hands on your waist. “Hey, do you trust me?” he asked. You looked at him with doe-eyes, “of course I do.” you said and placed your hands on his biceps gently running your hands up and down them in a soothing motion. “Then trust me when I say everything will be ok. I promise,” he said and rested his forehead against yours.
You pressed a kiss to his lips and pulled away. “I trust you, Dakota,” you affirmed. He kissed your lips one more time before taking your hand and leading you towards the RV. He opened the door and both of you walked in and settled down. Everyone was just relaxing or on their phones not really paying attention to your entrance.
Dakota sat with his back to the wall at the table and you sat between his legs leaning your back against his chest. He wrapped his arms around you and kissed your head. You rested your head on his shoulder and looked up at him pressing a kiss to his jaw and nestling your face in his neck. He held you a bit tighter and sighed. He had his worries too but he knew he had to do it, to overcome his fear and beat the place that made them quit.
--
You lied next to Dakota that night unable to sleep comfortably knowing your friends could be in more danger than usual with this location. The thought that lingered in the back of your mind was what Dakota had said earlier that day. You had been speaking about the basement and he had mentioned that it was demonic. It made your heart stop beating for a few seconds at the thought of maybe sleeping alone in that part of the building.
Now that you knew that he, Chelsea, and tanner had been there before, you felt incredibly sick at the thought of them returning. You knew for a fact that Chelsea was just as upset as you were. You were upset with Dakota for choosing that location, but at the same time, worried for his safety.
You ended up lying on your side, facing your sleeping boyfriend. You let out a quiet sigh and reached out to gently trail his features with your fingertips. You began to get lost in how peaceful he looked and before you knew it his eyes fluttered open. Your fingers traced his lips softly and he grasped your hand to press a kiss to your fingertips. You let your hand slip from his and onto his chest.
“What’re you doing awake?” he questioned groggily. You let a small smile grace your lips at the sound of his sleepy voice. “Can’t sleep,” you answered truthfully, and gave a small shrug. Even through the dark, he could see the worry in your eyes. He reached his hand up and placed it on your cheek letting his thumb sweep across your cheekbone. “Still worried huh?” he said, even though he knew the answer was yes.
“No, I’m just not tired, that’s all.” you tried to not let it show even though you knew he could see through you.
His eyes softened. “C’mon babe, I can feel the anxiety radiating off of you.”
He moved his hand from your face and down your arm giving it a gentle squeeze. You sighed and buried your face in his shoulder. He kissed your head and wrapped his arm around you pulling you closer to him. “I didn’t want any of you hurt Kota. I really don’t like this location. I trust you, but I don’t trust anything in that building. Not even for a second.” you admitted to him. You swore you felt a sense of annoyance from your boyfriend.
“I know I said that before, but it’s true and I’m only saying it because I love you, I love all of you and want you to be safe. I would risk my safety for yours any day. I would spend a month alone in that building if it meant you wouldn’t have to. You hovered over him on your elbow so you could see his face, he sighed heavily.
“You know I’d do the same for you. But (y/n), seriously I said we’d be fine, so please just stop pestering me and go to sleep. just stop your worrying and leave me alone about it.” he huffed. You laid back down on the bed and turned to face the wall. You had no intent to pester or annoy your boyfriend. All you wanted to do was let him know that you worry about him and love him. But it seemed like he didn’t want to hear it anymore, so that’s exactly what you would give him. You would keep your mouth shut.
--
The next morning arrived and you kept quiet through all the interviews, didn’t let out a peep of worry. When asked if you were worried about that night, you shrugged your shoulders. “No, you can handle yourselves.”
Dakota sat beside you and slung his arm over the back of the seat. He expected you to lean into him like usual but you stayed exactly where you were. He expected you to reach over your shoulder and interlock your fingers but still, you didn’t move from your position. Your hands sat on the table next to your camera as you mindlessly fiddled with it. Chelsea looked at you with slight confusion in her eyes, noticing that you weren’t as warm and affectionate as you would normally be. You were closed off, not expressing your feelings about the location or shooting love-sick glances at her brother.
“Well damn, I was not expecting that answer from you (y/n/n/),” Alex spoke up. “I trust you guys to take this on. We’ll be fine,” you stated, though the worry still crept up into your mind. You didn’t want to pester any of them with your worry and so you decided not to show anything at all.
The cameras were shut off, and you let out a small sigh, checking your phone for a few seconds. Dakota leaned in to place a kiss on your cheek and you couldn’t help but let it happen not wanting to raise too much suspicion on your feelings. When he pulled back you spoke up. “I think I’m gonna try and get some more rest before tonight. I’ll see you guys a bit later.”
They all looked at you and nodded, “Yeah, ok hun try and get some rest.” Chels acknowledged you. “Do you want me to come with you? I know you always sleep better with me there.” Dakota asked sweetly. You looked at him and shook your head before getting up from your seat and heading for the back of the RV. They all looked as you walked away with confusion scrawled across their faces. You and Dakota usually stayed together, they all knew you slept better with him next to you and so they were all a bit freaked out.
“Man, is she ok?” Tanner asked with his brows furrowed.
“Maybe she just needs some space…”  Dakota responded to his friend’s concern. Chelsea looked towards the back and decided she was going to go check up on you.
“Hey guys, I’m just gonna go check on her I’ll be right back.” they all nodded in agreement before she followed your path.
--
You laid on the bed and closed your eyes, you tried not to feel bad about what Dakota said last night. You just couldn’t help it, it hurt you, you never meant to bother him you were just voicing your concerns not wanting anything bad to happen to the people you loved. Not wanting anything to happen to him.
Him telling you to just leave him alone made you feel horrible. You didn’t know you were such a bother to him, so today you tried not to be.
You felt the familiar stinging behind your eyelids and a small lump form in the back of your throat. You clutched the blanket beneath you tightly trying to calm yourself down. You hadn’t even noticed that someone was standing next to the bed. You were trying to take deep but quiet breaths to bring you back. Chelsea carefully sat down next to you and delicately placed a hand on your shaking shoulder. You jumped at the feeling and your eyes snapped open to look at who was next to you.
You quickly sit up and look away rubbing the tears out of your eyes as best as you could. You cleared your throat and turned to face her.
“Hey Chels, did you need something?” you asked. “I need to know what’s wrong,” she answered softly. You looked at her and sighed. “I’m just really tired, I didn’t sleep well last night. I’m sorry for being so weird out there, I’m just exhausted and need a break that’s all.” you lied beautifully through your teeth. She looked at you with a raised brow, disbelief floated in her eyes but she decided not to push it. She leaned over and gave you a hug before getting up. “I’m here for you ok. Dakota is too, maybe you should let him know,” she advised. You looked at her, you knew she saw through you. “Ok…” you breathed out heavily. She nodded and let you know she would send him back. You sat there with fear in you, not knowing what to say. Not wanting to lie, but not wanting to admit that he hurt your feelings.
You heard his familiar footsteps and shut your eyes tightly trying to get a grip before he saw you. “You’re fine. It’s ok, just tell him. You need to fix this, but you don’t want to annoy him any further.” you spoke in your mind.
You felt the bed dip and a hand run over your hair, you looked up to meet your boyfriend’s concerned eyes. “Babe, what’s wrong? Chelsea said you wanted to talk to me. Did I do something wrong?” he asked with a timid voice.
You sighed and screwed your eyes shut again.
“I’m just tired is all. I didn’t sleep too well last night, guess I’m just exhausted.” you let the words tumble from your mouth.
“Why didn’t you sleep well, babe?” he asked and pulled himself closer to you. “I don’t know, I just couldn’t seem to calm my mind enough…” you trailed off. “I could’ve helped you, you know I’m always here to help you,” he reassured you.
He seemed absolutely oblivious to what had happened last night, and it made you upset.
“I didn’t want to bother you more than I already had. I wanted to leave you alone so you could get some rest,” you told him, hoping he would catch on and you wouldn’t have to say it.
It was then that you saw a flash of recognition about the night before. He squeezed his eyes shut and let out a big sigh. “(y/n), I’m sorry. I know you get worried I shouldn’t have acted the way I did. I know you were just letting me know that you loved me, and I’m sorry for ever letting you think you bothered me. I was just tired and irritable thinking about tonight. I didn’t want to think of it anymore and I hurt your feelings I’m so sorry babe.” he apologized. You could hear his sincerity, and understood where he was coming from you had been there too. “I know I talk about it a lot, and it must get annoying sometimes so I’m sorry too,” you spoke up. He looked at you with regret-filled eyes. You sat up on your knees and situated yourself on his lap to wrap your arms around him. He pulled you close, and kissed your neck where his head rested.
“I’m sorry for acting like a bitch today. I shouldn’t have done that it was stupid of me.” you apologized for your earlier actions. “It’s ok (y/n), just remember I would never mean to hurt you, and if I do talk to me about it.” he gave you a sweet reminder. You nodded against his shoulder and relaxed in his hold.
“I love you, Dakota.” you expressed before pulling back and placing a kiss on his cheek. He gave you a silly grin. “I love you too.”
He flips you over so you’re on your back, pinned beneath him and the bed. You let out a breathy laugh and smiled up at him. His hair already falling from its original slicked back place. Lying gently above his brow, making him look less put together and more playful in a way. It always gave you butterflies.
“You’re too handsome for your own good Laden.” you gave him a goofy grin. He chuckled before leaning down to press his lips to yours. “And you’re too beautiful to be mine.” you blushed and playfully smacked his shoulder trying to hide your face in your hands. He sat up a bit to pull your hands away from your warm face. “Don’t hide from me!” he let out a laugh. “You’re too beautiful to hide,” he spoke quietly before leaning back down to press his lips against yours. You stayed that way for a while before the need for air became more and more obvious. He pulled back and smiled at the sight of your closed eyes and content smile.
“Now why don’t we get some rest before tonight. We’ll need it,” he suggested softly.
“I’d like that,” you replied as you switched positions so he was lying on his back with your head on his chest.
He kissed your hair while running his hand up and down your arm. His steady breathing and rhythmic heartbeat let you close your eyes and drift off.
