1969 Dakin Dream Pets Orange Octopus

opened my bday present from Max early- he's a Dakin Dream Pet! 🐯 He's sooo precious & I love the heft that his sawdust stuffing gives him! He's gonna live on my bookcase 📚

ooh i am so excited to show you this one because first of all he is so so cute. HES IN A LITTLE SAILOR SUIT . and secondly he seems to be somewhat of a rare find? hes a dakin dream pet but doesnt resemble any of the other dream pet deer. his body looks like one of the goat designs but that one isnt normally all one color like him and doesnt have his big deer like nose and i couldn't find another of him anywhere so I'm just so curious what his deal is. like is he a one of a kind that someone customized years ago? or maybe a custom order? some extremely limited special edition? dakin does have various plush of the navy billy goat mascot but it looks way different but he could be some sort of prototype ? i dunno have you ever seen a dream pet quite like him? the etsy listing was just like "i found him at an estate sale and he seemed like something special" and i sure think he is! i love my little sailor deer that might be a goat but i will continue to interpret as a deer (not that i dislike goats theyre also cute) ALSO HIS EYES LOOK LIKE 🙄

While some of the original 80s Chuck E Cheese walkarounds are pretty creepy looking, it's the Billy Bob walkarounds that really scare me. I can't decide which Billy Bob walkaround looks the worst, because they all look horrifying. This is another reason why Party Time Pizza Zone was successful in my dream universe, because the characters had simple, 50s-esqe designs [UPA Animation Studios + Dakin Dream Pets + 50s Hanna Barbera + 50s Valentines with cartoon animals + hints of Muppets, Rolly Crump, and Vintage Mickey Mouse and you get the idea of their designs, especially the characters' pie eyes] and that translated incredibly well into both animatronic and walkaround form. Also, I've always headcannoned that FNAF's Bonnie [all versions], had a foot tap mechanism, similar to PTT's The King's foot tap.

It’s the eyes. I know it’s because they want to people to be able to see but the pupils are so large that they’re creepy. In fact, that’s probably why I personally don’t find the Chuck E Cheese walkabouts creepy. Some designs just don’t translate well into walkabouts, especially if you don’t have the budget to make good costumes.

Also, really love the idea of the FNAF animatronics functioning like IRL animatronics! It’s really fun to think about! Though people usually tend to look at the Rock Afire Explosion for inspiration. But I had no idea The King had a foot tap mechanic. Guess, we learn something new about animatronics everyday. But yeah, Bonnie would have a foot tap if he were a real animatronic. I imagine him having some other mechanics too based on other animatronics I really like. Same goes for the rest of the band.
