GIDEON STAHLBERG | Last Place (15th) after 15 rounds 3 ½ /14 (+2 =3 -9) is Gideon Stahlberg’s 🇸🇪 score after 15 rounds ... deceiving to say the least. OVERVIEW: Gideon Stahlberg is born in Surte (near Gothenburg), Sweden 🇸🇪 on January 28th 1908. Stählberg qualified for Zürich 1953 by equalizing the score of Yuri Averbakh at Saltsjobaden Interzonal 1952 (along with Szabó and Gligorić). FIRST PICTURE: BEST WIN! One of his only 2 wins so far in this tournament, Stahlberg won this game against Alexander Kotov 🇷🇺 (USSR) in the 2nd Round landing himself with a good start (1.5/2) after the game. He won the game with the black pieces after he pished 41...a5-a4 freezing and squeezing a win out of White’s incapable position. SECOND PICTURE: Gideon Stahlberg 🇸🇪 in action! THIRD PICTURE: COULD’VE HAPPENED! Yes, the bishop on e4 is a white bishop (making it checkmate on the black king). This could’ve been the most beautiful game of the tournament if Stahlberg hadn’t resigned too early before potentially playing till this position a few moves later (It would’ve been 49. h4, and if black plays the blunder 49...h6?? then 50.Qxc5!!, Qxc5 and Be4# (see the position)). 4TH PICTURE: MISSED WIN If Stahlberg would’ve played 45.h4 (earlier in the same game as the third position), White would be winning (Ne8+, Kg8, Nf6+ is a real threat because the black king now can’t go to g6 (Qg5# )). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #surte #gothenburg #sweden #stahlberg #chesspeople #chessplayers #chessmaster #chessgame #chesswin #chessboard #chesspieces #chesstactics #chessset #chesslovers #chessmoves #gideonståhlberg #zurich #1953 #chess #chesshistory #chessmatch #chesstravel #croatialandscape #croatiaviews #vista (at Surte, Sweden) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0B49yXhypa/?igshid=1uset73wl9rq7
